Kotetsu lay in bed looking up at the ceiling. What had he done? Had he said something? He was pretty sure everything had been fine between them only a few days ago, but all of a sudden Barnaby got all weird and distant. They had practically lived together the first few days since they reunited, and now he could barely get the guy on the phone. They had practiced for their interviews, but the second they were done Barnaby made excuses and left. When they went out to do interviews, they did the interview and poof Barnaby would leave before they could go for a wrap party or even just the two of them for dinner.
Barnaby had claimed it was because he was exhausted from the dreams and the machine not helping anymore, but it seemed like more than that, it seemed personal.
He would have to catch him one of these days and get an answer out of him, but as it was he himself was a little busy. Kaede would be coming to town the day after Christmas which meant he had to get the spare room ready for her, as well as plan out everything they could possibly do while she was in town. He had a tour book with about a million tabs in it marking information he deemed worthwhile.
He also wanted to make sure he had something for Barnaby for Christmas day; he knew Christmas day was a sore spot for him and that he would need to get Barnaby out of his own head for the day. But that plan required Kotetsu actually being able to talk to Barnaby long enough to actually invite him out anywhere for Christmas.
He pulled his phone off his bedside table and looked at it, the text he sent Barnaby still said "unread" which meant Barnaby either forgot his phone somewhere, or he was intentionally not looking at the message to keep it on unread. There was no way he could possibly have not noticed the message otherwise.
Why was he ignoring him? Was it because Christmas was coming? It could be that, Barnaby always got a little squirrely when it came to his parents, and this would be the first Christmas since Maverick, since Samantha… Kotetsu read the message he sent over six hours ago again.
"Hey Bunny, not sure what's going on with you, but let's meet up soon okay? =D"
Had it been too forward? Should he have tried to keep it more casual? What if Barnaby didn't like being called out on being weird?
Kotetsu let out a groan and ruffled his hair in frustration. How was he supposed to figure this out? He collapsed back onto his bed, setting his phone back down, the volume on max in case Barnaby decided to text overnight.
