Kaede was ecstatic as she got back into her dad's car. He had to go to work earlier that day, he had to re-record his lines for a TV commercial. While he was out doing that she had gotten to go to Apollon Media with Pao-lin and Karina. They had let her use their powers in the VR room. She had spent hours blasting electricity and ice at Vr bad guys. She was totally spent, but couldn't wait to tell her dad all about it.
"Hey! Oh my gosh, you will never believe how awesome I am getting at switching between powers dad," Kaede said as a greeting as she did up her seat belt. Her dad just laughed and pulled away from the curb heading to the elevator to take them down to bronze.
"Oh, tell me all about it sweetie," he said, sounding a little distracted, probably because he was driving.
Kaede went into vivid detail about how she was able to use Karina's ice power to blast herself across the room, meet Pao-lin, touch her, gain her electrical powers and use them to short circuit a mechadroid that had been chasing her. Her story was full of whooshes, kapows, and the occasional blamo, having learned storytelling from her dad.
By the time they got to the townhouse she had only told about half of the awesome stories she wanted to tell him. "Oh, and then! When we were fighting this giant rock monster looking thing, I used Karina's ice powers to make the floor slippery! And the three of us skated around it like WOOSH! And then it slipped on the ice and was like BAM! You should have seen it! It exploded into a million pieces!" Kaede was gesturing wildly as she told the story. Her dad watched her and had a great big grin on his face
"I've trained in that simulation before, that's awesome that you defeated it! Great job!" he went to pat her on the head and she dodged it.
"Don't touch! I have Karina's power right now!" she said crouching away from him. "I wanna show you!" she said with a blush across her face, a little embarrassed over wanting to show off for her dad.
"S-sorry!" he held his hands behind his back. "Where are you gonna show me that isn't gonna get us in trouble though?" he asked, scratching at his beard as he though.
"Just inside the house, I promise I won't break anything!" she said holding her hands in front of her face as she pleaded her case.
"Well… let me put some of the more breakable things away and then sure, why not," he acquiesced unlocking the door.
Kaede helped her dad put the breakable things away, though she promised she could use the powers without mistakes. He had countered with "ya, but what if for some fluke you can't and you break a picture of mom" it was all the convincing she needed. He was working on the mantelpiece where the picture frames were, he hesitated with one in his hands before putting it in a box with the rest. Kaede was putting pillows around the record player to keep it safe, it was her dad's prized possession, or so he claimed.
He placed the breakables in the kitchen and then sat down on the couch. "Ok! Show me what you learned!" he said with a grin.
Kaede took a deep breath and then stepped in front of her dad; closing her eyes she held her hands out in front of her. A blue aura formed around her and the temperature in the room dropped a bit. She concentrated on the energy in her hand. Crystals slowly formed from the moisture in the air, pulling together to form a very thin delicate strand. She pushed a little harder, the strand thickened slightly, twisting ever so slightly, little ridges forming, and larger ones. At the top, a ball was gathering, shaping, twisting. She gave one last push and opened her eyes, as she did so the tiny object shifted and changed suddenly from being an unrecognizable spindle strand with a ball to a rose that was in full bloom, the twisting cord coming from its bottom a thorny stem.
Kotetsu let out a whoop and stood up clapping. "Amazing! That was awesome! You have such great control!" he reached forward as if to hug her and stopped himself. If he touched her she would lose her power and the rose with it.
"Karina showed me her trademark! Her Blue Rose!" Kaede said and took hold of the ice creation, the glow around her subsiding. She held it out for her dad to take. He carefully took it, making sure not to touch her hand.
"Thanks, baby, " he said while he held it out looking at it. "Lemme take a picture of it first before it melts at all," he took out his phone and took a few shots of it while holding it. "Here, you hold it!" he said with a bright smile and handed it back, carefully. "Do you think we should put it in the freezer?" he asked looking at her quizzically.
She took hold of it and smiled holding it out in front of her while her dad took way too many pictures. "Sure, let's put it in the freezer, maybe it'll still be pretty tomorrow," she said with a bright smile carrying it into the kitchen and setting it on a plate and putting it in the freezer.
After doing that she really was totally worn out. She needed to get some sleep. She blew kisses in her dad's direction feeling a little bad not giving him a hug goodnight. He, embarrassingly, "caught" her kisses and plastered them all over his face with his hands. "Goodnight sweetie! Have a wonderful sleep," he said to her as he stood in her doorway before she closed the door.
"Night dad," she said as the door clicked shut between them.
