Heart Shaped

"Happy Valentine's Day, big brother!" Kawaki heard Himawari announce and saw her give Boruto some kind of package out of the corner of his eye. He may have been slightly curious to know what a "Valentine's Day" was, but since he didn't want to come across as unknowing, he decided to simply pretend that he hadn't heard anything.

"Happy Valentine's Day, Kawaki!"

Of course, that was before Himawari thrust a package identical to Boruto's in to his hands.

"…What the heck is Valentine's Day?"

"You're supposed to say thank you, Kawaki" Naruto scolds him before he too gets the same kind of package from his daughter "Thanks, Hima."

From where she's standing in the kitchen, Hinata can see Kawaki making the familiar face that he makes when he gets a slight scolding from Naruto. He averts his eyes, presses his lips together and occasionally, like now, there's a slight red hue on his cheeks. It's always followed with a more tense posture than what he usually has, too.

No matter how much of a tough front he tried to put up, Hinata knew he was a good child.

"A day when girls and women show their appreciation to their friends and loved ones" Hinata replied Kawaki's earlier question as she came to the living and dining area, kissing her husband on the cheek before setting the chocolate cake she was carrying on the table "At some point, it became a tradition to show it with chocolate."

"…" Kawaki understood what she was saying, in theory at least, but in practice, he saw no point in it. Then again, he saw no point in lots of things that this family did.

"Alright!" Boruto cheered, already taking a seat "Nothing beats mom's chocolate cake!"

No matter if he understood or not, one thing Kawaki knew for sure: he'd never say no to anything that had chocolate in it. Needless to say, he didn't even hesitate when Naruto told him to join them at the table.

"This is for you" Chou Chou says as she hands a small package to Shikadai, then turning to Inojin "And this is for you!"

"…Do we have to accept these?" Shikadai asks with a grimace.

"Why wouldn't you? I know you both like chocolate and that neither of you is allergic."

"Because if we do, White Day is going to be tough on our wallets" Inojin, forever the blunt one, answers without hesitation. Shikadai nods along, silently glad that he didn't need to be the one to say it.

"Better start saving up, then!" Chou Chou grins "Try not to waste all your money on those silly cards."

"They're not silly!" both boys chorus immediately, and Inojin adds: "You just don't get it because you waste all your money on anything that you can use to stuff your face, Chubs!"

"Excuse me!?" Chou Chou asks, and Shikadai sighs, muttering: "Troublesome."

"Really, you guys? Fighting each other first thing in the morning?" Boruto asks as he casually walks over, Kawaki right beside him.

"You say that like you and Sarada were somehow different" Inojin chuckles "If she was here, you'd probably already be at each other's throats."

Boruto just shrugs, unable to really deny it.

"Good morning, Kawaki!" Chou Chou cheers, ignoring Boruto completely "I have something for you!"

Kawaki raises an eyebrow, but at this point, he's able to put two and two together and is pretty sure of what that something is. And he never says no to chocolate.

"Happy Valentine's Day!" Chou Chou tells him, holding out what he knows is a package of chocolate.

"…Thanks" this time, he remembers his manners. Not that Lord Seventh was there to see even if he didn't. But, knowing Boruto, he'd tell on him if he didn't.

Leaning closer to Shikadai, Boruto whispers: "Is that obligation chocolate or…?"

"Nah, it's not" Inojin, who also hears him, says "It's bigger and fancier than what we got."

"And I didn't even get any" Boruto scoffs, making Shikadai laugh.

"Don't take it personally; we only got some because we're her teammates" he pauses "And so that she can quilt trip us on White Day."

"…Suddenly I don't feel so unlucky anymore" Boruto says "You guys better start saving up."

"We know" the duo groans, their attention drifting to Kawaki again as they see the guy opening his gift.

"They're heart shaped" Inojin points out "The chocolates we've gotten have never been that shape."

Everyone watches Kawaki's reaction, but he just picks up a piece and pops it in to his mouth, not seeming to react to the shape.

"These are delicious" he comments before taking another one.

"…I don't think he got the hint." Inojin says with a wry smile.

"Come to think of it, he didn't know what Valentine's Day was 'till this morning." Boruto tells.

"Should we point out what that kind of chocolate usually implies?" Shikadai asks. The boys look at each other for a while before coming to a shared decision.

"Nah"

A.N: I don't actually ship them, but I thought that this would be fun.
