Initiation
[So for this chapter, I'll be omitting everything following the ejection of everyone from the cliff, this is due to the fact that I won't have Revati interact with anyone during initiation, I want to hide details about his fighting and Semblance because I want to keep it a mystery for now, and also because it seems largely unnecessary to describe everything from the show when Revati isn't even present and overall serves no point for character interaction and so on, also I've noticed a severe lack of comments, which isn't surprising per se due to this being a new story and all, but don't be afraid to just comment stuff, unless of course it will get you in trouble, then you probably shouldn't do that, otherwise comment away!]
It's now morning at Beacon, most people are still sleeping as it is still fairly early, however a few individuals are awake already including Revati, who is already dressed in his usual attire, and is watching the others, waiting for the any of the three individuals he considers a friend to wake. He looks over at a commotion being made by a very short girl with orange hair and turquoise eyes, she is wearing a collared black sleeveless vest, with a blue central front section with red accents, her vest has a grey emblem on the back resembling a lightning bolt going through the head of a war hammer, under the vest is white, sleeveless shirt with a heart-shaped cutout above her breast line in the centre of the shirt, with a pair of white detached sleeves and a pair of light pink fingerless gloves, she also wears a short pink shirt with a single white layer underneath, white low-heeled ankle boots with pink soles and laces with the tops folded over revealing the pink lining, she wears a silver armour piece that wraps around her waist, under her breasts, and around the back of her neck, with metal connecting all pieces at the front, she also has a turquoise now wrapped around the back of her skirt. The girl is currently hovering over another person.
"Wake up, lazy butt!" The girl says before dashing off to the side. The boy gets up with a groan, apparently sleeping in his normal attire, he has long black hair that ends halfway down his back, tied into a low ponytail and a single magenta streak on the front left side of his hair and magenta eyes, he wears a dark-green, diagonally-buttoned, long-sleeved tailcoat, with black and gold trimmings and pink cuffs, the trim goes down the right side of his torso and forms a black collar, he is also wearing a black, long-sleeved shirt underneath his suit and light-tan pants with black shoes.
The girl continues to dash around the boy singing, "It's morning! It's morning! It's morning! It's morning!" Revati looks on as the two leave to the bathroom together, before they return and are packing their stuff up while the girl continues to chatter, "We've been friends for soooooooo long! What are the odds we'd still be together? Well, not 'together-together...' not that I'm saying that you're not handsome; you are handsome, but that's be weird, right?" Revati watches as they leave, not too long after, Blake exits the washroom and walks towards the exit, with Revati walking over to her. "H-Hey Blake, would it be okay if I-I joined you for b-breakfast? It's just th-that it feels nice to eat n-near friends," Revati stutters out to her, to which she responds, "It's no problem, I really don't mind your company." "R-really? Th-thanks! I-I don't usually get c-compliments like that," Revati shyly says.
With that, the two make their way to the cafeteria to have breakfast, neither saying a word to each other along the way nor while eating, simply enjoying each other's presence. Eventually they make their way back to auditorium to get fully prepared, passing the boy and girl from earlier, heading out of the locker room.
"Wonder what those two are so worked up about?" Ruby asks as the two pass by her and Yang as they head to the locker room as well, "Oh, who knows? So, you seem awfully chipper this morning!" Yang dismisses before saying enthusiastically. "Yep! No more awkward small talk or 'getting-to-know-you' stuff. Today, I get to let my sweetheart do the talking," Ruby says while stroking Crescent Rose and sighing. "Well, remember, Ruby, you're not the only one going through initiation. If you wanna grow up, you're gonna have to meet new people and learn to work together," Yang sagely advises her younger sister, causing Ruby to sigh in frustration and respond, "You sound like dad!" as she shoves Crescent Rose into the locker. "Okay, first of all: What does meeting new people have to do with fighting? And secondly: I don't need people to help me grow up! I drink milk!" Ruby childishly states. "But what about when we form teams?" "Um, I don't know, I... I'll just be on your team or something..." Ruby nervously says, while Yang brings her hair around her shoulder and brushes it and says, "Maybe you should try being on someone else's team?" "My dear sister Yang, are you implying that you do not wish to be on the same team as me?" Ruby accuses, to which Yang hastily denies, "What? No! Of course I do! I just thought... I don't know, maybe it would help you... break out of your shell!" "What the-? I don't need to 'break out of my shell'! That's absolutely-" "Ridiculous!" Ruby bursts out before being interrupted by Jaune walking between her and Yang hold a map a looking lost. "There's no way I put my gear in locker 636 yesterday! I would've remembered having to count that high! Why does this have to happen today?" Jaune laments at his misfortune as he passes Weiss and the red-headed girl from yesterday.
"So, Pyrrha, have you given any thought to whose team you'd like to be on? I'm sure everyone must be eager to unite with such a strong, well-known individual such as yourself!" Weiss asks and praises the red-head, "Hmm... I'm not quite sure. I was planning on letting the chips fall where they may." "Well... I was thinking maybe we could be on a team together," Weiss proposes to Pyrrha, to which she responds with false enthusiasm, "Well, that sounds grand." "Great!" Weiss says excitedly before getting an evil look on her face, which is quickly dispersed by Jaune, "You know what else is great? Me. Jaune Arc. Nice to meet you." "You again?" Weiss irritatedly said, "Nice to meet you, Jaune!" Pyrrha says while getting in front of Jaune. "Yeah, yeah," Jaune says dismissing Pyrrha and pushing her out of the way of Weiss, "So, Weiss, couldn't help but overhear your fondness for me the other day," Jaune says, attempting to be suave while slightly posing. "Oh, you've got to be kidding me!" Weiss says in exasperation, "Don't worry! No need to be embarrassed! So, been hearing rumours about teams! I was thinking you and me would make a good one! What do you say?" Jaune proposes. "
"Actually, I think the teams are comprised of four students each, so-" Pyrrha explains before Jaune interrupts and makes an advance on Pyrrha herself, "You don't say. Well, hot stuff, play your cards right and maybe you could join with the winning team." Weiss then separates the two and says to Jaune, "Jaune, is it? Do you have any idea who you're talking to?" "Not in the slightest, Snow Angel," Jaune says both smoothly and idiotically. "This is Pyrrha," "Hello again!" Pyrrha oddly greets Jaune again, "She graduated top of her class at Sanctum!" Weiss continues, "Never heard of it," Jaune replies. "She's won the Mistral Region Tournaments four years in a row! A new record!" Weiss says after scoffing, "The what?" Jaune lamely replies again. Weiss becomes highly frustrated and begins waving her arms rapidly and says, "She's on the front of every Pumpkin Pete's Marshmallow Flakes box!" this causes Jaune to gasp and exclaim, "That's you! But they only do that for star athletes and cartoon characters!" "Yeah, it was pretty cool. Sadly, the cereal isn't very good for you," Pyrrha explains.
"So, after hearing all of this, do you really think you're in a position to ask her to be on your team?" Weiss condescendingly comments. "I guess not... Sorry..." Jaune dejectedly says whilst hanging his head, to which Pyrrha attempts to lift his spirits, "Actually, Jaune, I think you'd make a great leader!" "D'oh, stop it!" Jaune says, once more his dopey self, "Seriously, please stop it. This kind of behaviour should not be encouraged!" Weiss tells Pyrrha. "Sounds like Pyrrha's on board for Team Jaune. Spots are filling up quick! Now, I'm not supposed to do this, but maybe I could pull some strings, find a place for you. What do you say?" Jaune once again attempts at flirting with Weiss, instead seeming to creep her out, "All right, that's a bit too close! Pyrrha, a little help, please?!" Weiss asks in great distress. Jaune looks back towards Pyrrha just to see her javelin strike him, sending him hurtling backwards and being pinned to the wall. "I'm sorry!" Pyrrha honestly apologizes.
Suddenly, the intercom turns on with Professor Goodwitch being on the other end announcing, "Would all first-year students please report to Beacon Cliff for initiation? Again, all first-year students report to Beacon Cliff immediately," and with that, the intercom turns off and students exit the locker room to head to their initiation. Weiss passes Jaune as he hangs from the wall of a locker, with Pyrrha following after grabbing her javelin and dropping Jaune to the ground, and joyfully saying to him as she left, "It was nice meeting you!" "Likewise..." Jaune says back as he slumps against the locker and Ruby and Yang approach. "Having some trouble there, lady-killer?" Yang teasingly asks. "I don't understand. My dad said all woman look for is confidence! Where did I go wrong?" He dejectedly asks. A hand appears in front of Jaune offering to help him up, the hand belongs to an individual of moderate height covered head-to-toe in blue armour with silver trim, the armour has many spikes, sprouting out from the large, rounded pauldrons, poleyn, and couter, with them donning a closed bowl helmet, familiarly, the person also has long, blue gauntlets on with holes in them. "N-Need some help J-Jaune?" The voice stutters out, confirming to the three present that the intimidating figure before they is in fact their nervous and jumpy friend.
"Oh! Uh... yes, that would be nice," Jaune responds, still in shock at how the person before him is Revati. "Woah! Revati, you look sooooo cool in that armour!" Ruby says in awe, "Never would have thought that someone as meek as you could look so tough, keep it up and you might just manage to 'Rev' my engine!" Yang jokes, getting groans from both Ruby and Jaune, however, "Kkkk," is sharply heard coming from Revati, who seemingly failed at suppressing his amusement at Yang's pun. "Oh, no. Oh, no, no, no! This is horrible!" Ruby yelled out in terror, "What's horrible?" Jaune asks. "He liked one of Yang's puns! Don't you know what this means?! It means she's going to make them even more often than usual!" Ruby yells into Jaune's face while shaking him furiously. Ruby slowly turns her head towards Yang, who has her mouth open in shock that someone found one of her puns funny, her face slowly morphing into smile, before evolving into a devious grin.
"Alright, I think we should probably head to the cliff now everyone, so we aren't late for initiation!" Ruby frantically says, hoping to distract Yang, to which it does, for now. "Ya, we probably should. And to your question earlier Jaune, 'Snow Angel' probably wasn't the best start," Yang tells Jaune as they all leave to the cliffs.
Now at Beacon Cliff, which overlooks a forest, several students are gathered, each standing on their own silver tile while Professors Ozpin and Goodwitch are standing in front of the initiates.
"For years, you have trained to become warriors, and today, your abilities will be evaluated in the Emerald Forest," Ozpin vaguely explains, after which Goodwitch steps in and informs everyone, "Now, I'm sure many of you have heard rumours about the assignment of 'teams.' Well, allow us to put an end to your confusion. Each of you will be given teammates... today," Goodwitch emphasizes the last word. "What? Ohhh..." Ruby moans in displeasure at the idea. "These teammates will be with you for the rest of your time here at Beacon. So it is in your best interest to be paired with someone with whom you can work well," Ozpin further explains, causing Ruby to groan even more.
"That being said, the first person you make eye contact with after landing will be your partners or the next four years," Ozpin continues, getting a completely shocked Ruby exclaiming at the top of her lungs, "Whaaaat?!" "See? I told you-! The short, orange-haired girl says to the boy clad in green. "After you've been partnered up, make your way to the northern end of the forest. You will meet opposition along the way. Do not hesitate to destroy everything in your path... or you will die," Ozpin says will a dark tone in his voice, hearing this, Jaune nervously laughs and gulps loudly, "You will be monitored and graded through the duration of your initiation, but our instructors will not intervene. You will find an abandoned temple at the end of the path containing several relics. Each pair must choose one and return to the top of the cliff. We will regard that item, as well as your standing, and grade you appropriately. Are there any questions?" Ozpin finishes explaining.
"Yeah, um, sir?" Jaune asks with his armed raised, "Good! Now, take your positions," Ozpin commands while completely ignoring Jaune. At his word everyone strikes a pose, except Jaune who still has his hand raised. The orange-haired girl crouches low, the boy in green wields his weapons, Yang raises her fists, Ruby readies herself, and Revati simply stands back straight with his arms folded behind his back. "Uh, sir? I've got, um... a question," Jaune asks again, missing the fact that the tiles had been launching people like springboards, "So, this landing... strategy thing... uh, wha-what is it? You're, like, dropping us off or something?" "No. You will be falling," Ozpin simply says. "Oh, uh, I see... so, like, did you hand out parachutes for us?" Jaune further questions, still not noticing students being launched, "No. You will be using your 'landing strategy'." Ozpin, again, simply says, "Uh-huh... yeah." Yang's turn to get launched arrives, to which she winks at Ruby, puts on a pair of aviator shades, and flies off yelling, "Woo-hoooooooo!" before Ruby herself is launched. Revati is then launched from his standing position, managing to right himself as he flips through the air, seemingly without moving.
"So, what exactly is a landing strategyyy!.." Jaune begins to question, before he too is finally launched off the side of the cliff, to which Ozpin simply takes a sip from his mug as he watches everyone in the air.
Now that initiation has finished, Ozpin is assigning teams in the auditorium, "Russel Thrush, Cardin Winchester, Dove Bronzewing, Sky Lark," Ozpin announces with a screen showing the profiles of the boys, while other students clap, "The four of you retrieved the black bishop pieces. From this day forward, you will work together as Team CRDL, led by... Cardin Winchester!" Ozpin states, the boys making their way onto the stage with more applause accompanying them.
"Jaune Arc, Lie Ren, Pyrrha Nikos, Nora Valkyrie. The four of you retrieved the white rook pieces. From this day formats, you will work together as Team JNPR, led by... Jaune Arc!" Ozpin states getting a confused look from the boy, "Huh? L-Led by...?" "Congratulations, young man," Ozpin congratulates. At this, Pyrrha attempts a friendly shoulder bump, which accidentally knocks him onto his butt, getting a laugh from the audience.
"And finally: Blake Belladonna, Ruby Rose, Weiss Schnee, Yang Xiao Long. The four of you retrieved the white knight pieces. From this day forward, you will work together as Team RWBY, led by... Ruby Rose!" Ozpin announces, getting a shocked look from Weiss as she looks at Ruby, who is also shocked, gets a hug from her sister, "I'm so proud of you!"
"Revati Meleagris, you recovered the black pawn, however you didn't encounter anyone during the initiation, the only other unpaired individual at the end of the initiation had gotten themselves stuck in quicksand after being launched, meanwhile, the pair that had originally recovered the other black pawn lost it before reaching the cliff, thus disqualifying them," Ozpin announces to Revati and the other students, causing Revati to become quite downtrodden. "While normally this would also mean you would be disqualified as well, however, your performance during the initiation has garnered a high mark, the highest any single individual has scored during the initiation, I might add, omitting your level of teamwork obviously, thus I feel, although it is unconventional, that perhaps bending the rules in this situation would benefit everyone, as for team placement, you won't have a conventional team, but when teams are required, you will be slotted with one of the other, pre-existing teams, and congratulations on joining Beacon," Ozpin finishes, getting a pleased expression from Revati, who is shaking at all the attention he is getting.
"It looks like things are shaping up to be an... interesting year," Ozpin remarks to himself, looking out the window to reveal the shattered moon amid the late day's clouds.
[Quick thing here, anyone else wonder why Pyrrha greeted Jaune a second time while Weiss was introducing her? It was pretty cute, but also didn't make sense seeing as how she didn't go anywhere and that was their first meeting. Just wondering. Also chapters will probably come out slower after this or the next chapter as university starts back up soon and I'll be busy with that, also unlike usual, I didn't describe anyone from Team CRDL, I will later in my chapter equivalent of 'Jaundice' simply because this was already really long, and if I'm being honest, I kinda hate writing out the descriptions, but I refuse to simply half-ass it like that, also the chapters after the next will start to become completely original, meaning they won't be based of any existing episodes, also from around this point on, there will be more and more changes from the original episodes, to the point where I've got a massive change planned out for the Vytal Festival, but you'll have to wait to find out what it is!
