First Day at Beacon
Now in one of the classrooms in Beacon Academy, the room is setup like a lecture hall, with various students sitting and waiting for class to start in a few minutes, noticeably, Revati is sitting by himself in the front row, wearing the Beacon boy's uniform, which consists of a black suit with gold trim, a blue vest and white shirt, with a red tie, in the corner. Suddenly the door bursts open and Teams RWBY and JNPR rushes into the room just as the bell rings, starting classes. The girls are wearing the Beacon girl's uniform, which consists of a white blouse with maroon trim and a thin red bow, a brown vest with gold buttons, a maroon blazer with gold trim, a red tartan skirt, black, full-length stockings, and brown shoes, while the boys wear the same boys uniform as Revati.
"M-Made it!" Ruby calls out while gasping for air, she and the others make their way to open seats, with Team RWBY going down to the front row with Revati and Team JNPR finding spots at a row further back. "Yes, quite glad you could join us, I would've been sad if you had missed class and didn't get to hear one of my many tales of heroism! Ha-ha," the professor merrily says. The professor in question is a rotund man with grey hair and a moustache, his eyes appear to be closed, though he still seems to be able to walk around his surroundings without issue, wearing a double-breasted burgundy suit with gold piping and buttons, his pants are tucked into olive calvary boots. He is standing in front of a board with various species of Grimm drawn on it, King Taijitu, Death Stalker, Beowolf, Boarbstusk, Nevermore, and Ursa. "Now, welcome to Grimm Studies, I am Professor Port, and I will be your guide on the subject of how to kill the foulest of creatures before they kill you!"
"Monsters! Deeeemons... prowlers of the night! Yes, the creatures of Grimm have many names, but I merely refer to them as prey! Ha-ha!" Port jokes, though no one laughs. Blake, Yang, and Revati are simply paying attention, Weiss is writing notes, and Ruby had started to fall asleep with her head in her hands until Port says his joke. Crickets are heard chirping in the room. "Uhhhh... and you shall too, upon graduating from this prestigious academy! Now, as I was saying: Vale, as well as the other three kingdoms, are safe havens in an otherwise treacherous world! Our planet is absolutely teeming with creatures that would love nothing more than to tear you to pieces! And that's where we come in. Huntsmen! Huntresses..." at this Port gives Yang a wink, to which she groans at uncomfortably, "Individuals who have sworn to protect those who cannot protect themselves! From what, you ask? Why, the very world!" As Port finishes his speech, a student in the middle of the room stands up, raises his fist and yells out, "Ayyyy-yep!" causing everyone to turn and look at him strangely, which prompts the student to sit back down in embarrassment.
"That is what you are training to become. But first: a story. A tale of a young, handsome man... me! When I was a boy..." Port drones on. Weiss looks over to see Ruby is focused on pencilling her paper. "... Despite smelling of cabbages, my grandfather was a wise man. 'Peter', he told me..." Port says as he continues his spiel. Ruby chuckles at her drawing, showing it to the others, which depicts a crudely drawn picture of the professor, with stink lines coming from him and "Professor Poop" drawn underneath, Yang and Blake laugh, while Weiss looks annoyed, and Revati simply glances at the picture and looks back at Port, who is standing in front of the group.
"Ah-heh-hem!" Port catches Team RWBY's attention before continuing, "In the end, the Beowolf was no match for my sheer tenacity, and I returned to my village with the beast in captivity and my head held high, celebrated as a hero!" Port finished his long winded story. "The moral of this story? A true Huntsman must be honourable!" meanwhile, Ruby is balancing an apple on a book with her pencil using only one finger while making a silly face. "A true Huntsman must be dependable!" Ruby is seen sleeping. "A true Huntsman must be strategic, well-educated, and wise!" Ruby picks her nose, with all of her antics enraging Weiss more and more. "So, who among you believe themselves to be the embodiment of these traits?" "I do, sir!" Weiss suddenly yells while raising her arm, somewhat in anger, "Aahh!" Revati screams in surprise at the sudden outburst, and falls out of his chair, then quickly stands up and says, "N-No worries I-I'm fine," and promptly sits back down.
"Well, then, let's find out! Step forward, and face your opponent!" Port exclaims while turning and gesturing to a cage covered in shadows as red eyes peer from the dark, the creature growling and rattling the cage.
Weiss is in her usual attire, holding her silver-grey rapier, which has a revolving, bow type, hand-guard that has four evenly spaced prongs, with six chambers in the guard, each containing a vial of dust. She is currently standing at the front of the class, across from the cage containing her soon-to-be opponent.
"Goooo, Weiss!" Yang yells while raising her fist, "Fight well," Blake says while waving a small flag with 'RWBY' on it, "U-Uh, make sure t-to not die!" Revati yells out getting looks from the others, "Yeah, represent Teeeeam RWBY!" Ruby yells out in support. "Ruby! I'm trying to focus!" Weiss says with hostility while looking at the girl, "Oh, um... sorry..." Ruby sheepishly apologizes. "Allllright!" Port exclaims standing next to the cage, wielding a simple blunderbuss with a brown stock and lemon-yellow barrel with grey trim throughout, on the stock lie two axe blades, "Let the match... begin!" Port yells out, swinging the blades of his weapon into the lock on the cage, dropping the cage door and revealing her opponent.
The Grimm in question looks akin to a giant, black-furred boar, it, like all Grimm, has red eyes and various bone-like plates covering different parts of the body, one covering its entire face and a series of plates along the back and thighs, it also has four eyes and six tusks, one pair hang down from upper jaw, another point up from the same place, and the last pair are giant and curving up from the lower jaw, the tusks and face plate all have red lines forming designs across them. At being released, the Boarbatusk immediately charges Weiss, to which she deflects and rolls away, standing up and readying herself, while the Boarbatusk turns and does the same.
"Ha-ha! Weren't expecting that, were you?" Port heartily says. "Hang in there, Weiss!" Ruby shouts her encouragement to her teammate. Weiss speeds toward the charging Boarbatusk, attempting to stab it head on in the skull, only for the Grimm's tusks to trap her rapier when they clash. The Boarbatusk then flails wildly, attempting to dislodge Weiss from her weapon, who in turn is struggling to maintain her grip and also trying to wrench it free. "Bold, new approach. I like it!" Port exclaims.
"Come on, Weiss, show it who's boss!" Ruby cheers, this causes Weiss to glare over at her, giving the Boarbatusk an opening to disarm her, sending her weapon sailing away from her, before being knocked back herself. "Oh-ho! Now what will you do without your weapon?" Port questions. Weiss looks up just as the Grimm charges again, just barely rolling out of the way in time, causing it to crash headfirst into a desk. Using this, Weiss rushes for her rapier, sliding to get it into her hand. "Weiss! Go for its belly! There's no armour underneath-" Ruby helpfully starts to shout before Weiss turns to her and angrily admonishes, "Stop telling me what to do!" this in turn hurts Ruby.
While this exchange happens, the Boarbatusk leaps into the air and rolls into a ball, spinning at high speeds, before landing and continuing to gain speed and then rocketing towards Weiss. As it comes closer, Weiss activates her Semblance, summoning a blue-white glyph and blocks the attack, after which she leaps up into the now-black glyph, turning it blue, and stabbing into the Boarbatusk's unprotected stomach, causing it to squeal and then fall silent, and begins to disintegrate. Weiss then gasps in relief over the whole ordeal.
"Bravo! Bra-vo! It appears we are indeed in the presence of a true Huntress-in-training!" At this, Weiss stands up at attention while Ruby continues to frown. "I'm afraid that's all the time we have for today. Be sure to cover the assigned readings, and... stay vigilant! Class dismissed!" Port informs, causing everyone to pack their things away and leave. Weiss glares and turns away, walking hurriedly to the exit past her teammates. "Sheesh, what's with her?" Jaune asks from his spot as he watches Weiss leave, the remaining members of Team RWBY looking at each other wondering the same thing.
Weiss is storming off, but Ruby turns a corner and catches up with her. "Weiss!" Ruby yells after her, "What?" Weiss angrily replies while turning around. "What's wrong with you? Why are you being-?" Ruby asks before Weiss angrily interrupts her, "What's wrong with me? What's wrong with you? You're supposed to be a leader, and all you've been so far is a nuisance!" "What did I do?" Ruby asks after scoffing at the accusation. "That's just it- you've done nothing to earn your position! Back in the forest, you acted like a child, and you've only continued to do so!" Weiss explains in anger, "Weiss, where is this coming from? What happened to all the talk about 'working together'? I thought you believed in acting as a team," Ruby asks in confusion. "Not a team led by you. I've studied and trained. And frankly, I deserve better," Weiss condescendingly says as she turns back around, Ruby reaches out to her but drops her hand at what Weiss says next, "Ozpin made a mistake." At this, Weiss walks away as Ruby looks dejected.
Ruby turns around, only to be surprised at the fact that Ozpin was standing right behind her, holding a mug of hot cocoa, "Hmm... now that didn't seem to go very well," Ozpin muses. "Is she right? Did you make a mistake?" Ruby asks doubtfully while on the verge of tears. "That remains to be seen," Ozpin says after laughing slightly, before looking over at Revati, who had witnessed the whole thing, and giving a slight smile as Revati looks over to where Weiss had gone before looking back at the Headmaster. Seeing the slight urging of his face, Revati left, chasing after the heiress.
As he runs, he manages to catch up with her, "W-Weiss, w-wait up!" Revati says slightly louder than usual, catching her attention. "Revati, what is it?" Weiss asks in confusion, due to having interacted the least with the timid boy. "I-I just wanted to s-see if you're a-alright, you didn't seem t-too okay after class was d-dismissed," Revati tells her, "To be honest, no. Tell me, do you believe that I would be more fit for being the leader of my team?" Weiss confesses then asks. "H-Honestly, yes, I think that y-you're probably better trained to b-be a leader," "Thank you, I knew at least someone-" Weiss starts to haughtily begins before Revati interrupts her, "However, I know o-of Ozpin's near infinite wisdom, s-so I believe he did it for a r-reason, perhaps you are better able t-to lead, but making R-Ruby the leader might be what she n-needs to grow and become b-better."
Taking this in, Weiss then counters, "W-Well then, what about her unnecessary childish nature! Surely that kind of behaviour shows she isn't ready to become a Huntress!" "P-Perhaps if she was normal, b-but you gotta remember she is only 15, n-not to mention that by her o-own admission, she's had no friends outside of Y-Yang before coming to B-Beacon. Growing out of her childish b-behaviour just hasn't been necessary, b-besides, she's not doing any harm, it's best to j-just let her enjoy it while she c-can," Revati explains to Weiss, who, after hearing all this comes to the conclusion, "I suppose that's true, and if it would mean that she becomes more competent, I suppose I can try and follow her lead."
"Th-Thats nice to hear, I myself n-never had any friends before coming h-here, so I'd hate to see m-my new friends not getting along," Revati admits, "Well, it is quite nice of you to try and make things better, even if you weren't really affected. It shows that under that timid exterior, you're actually quite a good person. Thanks, Revati," Weiss thanks the boy before walking away to return to her dorm. The blue-haired boy doing the same.
[And thus begins the start of the major changes, from here on out, most chapters that are my revision of actual episodes will have more changes that do affect the story in more notable ways. Make sure to comment and share this story if you enjoyed it! Farvel!]
