THE VAMPIRE MIRACLE
9. FRIENDS AND FOES
~IN MYSTIC FALLS; OTHERWORLDLY~
It's morning time, the streets are deserted and Bonnie and Damon are walking in the middle of the street. Damon has his leather jacket slung over his shoulder, Bonnie's gray jacket is tied around her waist.
"How many more streets are we going to wander?" Damon groaned.
"How many times are you going to ask me questions I don't have the answers to? Huh?" Bonnie looks at him annoyed.
Damon looks back at her and they continue in silence.
"There's something weird about these cars." Bonnie started
They stop at a parked one, it's white.
"Yeah, they're all 20 years old or more and yet they look brand new." Damon said.
He runs his hand over the hood, he looks up at a house, a look washing over his face. It's Elena's house, there are toys on the lawn.
"And that is Elena's not-so-burnt-to-a-crisp house." Damon said in confusion.
They walk in front of it, Damon sees a newspaper on the grass and picks it up, unfolds it and reads it.
"Hmm?" Bonnie looks at Damon in confusion.
Damon turns to her and holds out the paper so she can read.
"Look." Damon said to her.
"Rare solar eclipse expected to be seen across 12 states?" Bonnie cranes her neck and reads.
"The date." Damon rolls his eyes.
"May 10th, 1994. Is that--? Are we--? But that's impossible." Bonnie said.
Suddenly the sky turns darker blue, they look up and see the eclipse blotting out the sun.
"I don't think we should be asking where we are, I think we should be asking when we are." Damon said to her.
~CAROLINE'S APARTMENT; REAL WORLD~
As soon as the blonde opened her eyes, she quickly rushed to the bathroom.
"Ugh I hate morning sickness." She groaned before she got up and walked out of the bathroom.
"Hey morning Care." Matt greeted her.
"Hey." She sighs.
"I made pancakes." He got her a plate.
"Ooh thank you, Matt." Caroline smiled before taking a seat.
"No problem, Care. I'm here if you need anything." He told her.
"Aww thanks Matt. That means a lot." Caroline smiled before there was a knock on the door.
Matt went and got the door as Caroline started eating her pancakes.
"Aunt Caroline." A cheery voice ranged through the room.
"Jade." Caroline hugged the young girl.
Jade is Stefan's daughter from 1864, from his first love or something like that. Stefan doesn't talk about it much. He didn't even know he had a daughter until they were in Paris for the summer.
From what Stefan says, Jade looks a lot like her mother. People wouldn't look twice if they were mother and daughter duo or even sisters, from what Stefan says. Her mother should be dead by now , I mean, since she was from the late 1860's. Unless she's a vampire or something. Stefan doesn't think she was. But he did say he only knew her for like a day or two. How much do you really know a person in a day, anyway?
Also Stefan and Katherine are a thing now. It's honestly not surprising, actually. Stefan left with Katherkne and Nadia for the summer, old flames sparks and boom, they're an item again.
"Dad says where moving back here...they're moving back here. I've never actually lived here before." Jade told her.
"That is amazing. Oh this is going to be great." Caroline cheered.
"But we still don't have a place yet so we were wondering…"
"If you could stay here?" Caroline asked. "Of course you can. Matt hasn't started on the baby room yet so the girls can stay in there. There's also an extra guest room, you guys can stay in there. Matt's usual stays on the couch.
"Alright then. Ok. That sounds perfect." Katherine smiled.
"Ooo." Caroline said as she held onto her stomach.
"What? Is everything ok?" Stefan asked.
"Yeah. I think she likes the idea as well." Caroline smiled brightly making the others smile as well.
~IN WHITMORE~
Caroline is staring at the graduation pic of Bonnie, Elena and Caroline all wearing red graduation clothes. And she sighs, heading over to the bed. Elena is walking into the room with a tray of two coffees.
"So I uh, volunteered at the hospital until like two. And then I figured we could carpool to the party at the swimming hole." Elena said setting the coffee down.
Elena realizes Caroline is packing.
"Um, normally when you move back in you unpack." Elena told her.
"I'm not staying. Last night was just a momentary moment of weakness." Caroline told her.
"Momentary moment?" Elena asked, making Caroline nods.
"Are you sure you don't want to come back to school?"
Caroline stares at her directly.
"Caroline, needing your friends isn't a weakness, momentary or otherwise." Elena told her.
Caroline shuts her suitcase.
"Yeah? Then why wouldn't you come to me instead of Luke? Last time I checked, if he hadn't stopped his sister from doing the spell, Damon would have made it back." Caroline told her.
"You're mad at me." Elena said.
"Of course I'm mad at you Elena." Caroline answered.
"Why? I should be the one mad at you for interrupting yesterday. Ric didn't want to finish the session after you gave your "Damon risked his life" speech." Elena said.
"Oh I'm sorry, did he not risk his life for us? My bad then." Caroline commented.
"Well, you should have stopped him from going through it. In fact you were probably the one that gave him the idea. He would still be here with me." Elena told her.
"I gave him the idea? Why would I do that?" Caroline
"Please, you were never a fan of Damon, until you got knocked up by him."
"Oh I see what this is. You are jealous of me."
"Wha-no. Jealous of you? No."
"Yes you are. You're jealous that I get to have a child and you don't." Caroline said. "Do you think I plan this Elena? That-that I want to have a child with Damon of all people? That I wanted a group of witches to come after my baby? Because I didn't ask for those to happen, Elena." Caroline told her.
Before Elena could respond back the door opened. Katherine, Nadia and Jade came in.
"Hey, aunt Care, we got your stuff in the car—are we interrupting something?" Jade asked.
"Uh who are you and aunt Care?" Elena asked.
"Hi, I'm Jade."
"Jade is Stefan's daughter." Nadia told her.
"Stefan has a daughter? Since when?" Elena asked.
"You would know if you answer your phone instead of taking witch-drugs to see your dead ex boyfriend." Katherine told her. "Anyway, are you ready to go?"
"Go? Where are you going?" Elena asked, looking at Caroline.
"We are going shopping. Kat and Stefan are moving back here with the girls." Caroline told her.
"Stefan is back? Since when?" Elena asked.
"Since this morning." Nadia replied. "Can we go now or—"
"Yeah, I'm done here. I'll see you around Elena." Caroline told Elena.
Elena just stared at Caroline in shock as the group of girls walked out of the door room, leaving her there.
Since when did Caroline and Katherine become friends? And Stefan has a daughter? God, how much has she missed out on?
~IN MYSTIC FALLS; OTHERWORLDLY~
Damon is swinging on the porch swing in Elena's back porch, Bonnie is sitting on the steps, toys around the porch.
"Where is any booze in this empty retroville?" Damon asked.
"It feels so weird to be back here, I practically grew up on this porch." Bonnie said.
"Alright, talk me through it." Damon stops the swing.
"Before the Other Side collapsed, my Grams said that she made a sacrifice so that I could find peace." Bonnie turns to him.
"The part where you actually have a theory." Damon told her.
Bonnie rolls her eyes.
"Well, this clearly isn't peace, otherwise I wouldn't be stuck here with you." Bonnie said.
"Rude." Damon makes a face.
"She must have--I don't know, sent me somewhere. And when I held your hand...it took you with me." Bonnie said.
"Well, did she happen to whisper a safe word in her last breaths. A clue, maybe? Witchy path out of here?" Damon asked.
"No, but if we got here by magic, magic should be able to get us out." Bonnie told him.
"And that frown that's not upside down is telling me what?" Damon asked, raising his eyebrows.
Bonnie looks toward a glass cup.
"Phesmatos incendia" She says.
They both look intently at the glass, but nothing happens, Bonnie looks down in disappointment.
"Still can't do magic." Damon said.
Damon sits back on the swing, his shoulders sagging.
"Perfect." Damon said, sarcastically.
~SHOPPING SOMEHWERE; REAL WORLD~
"So Elena seems nice." Jade said as she and Nadia were off away from the adults.
Nadia glared at her.
"Or not." Jade said.
"Look, one thing you need to know about Elena Gilbert is she always has people around to back her up. To be there whenever she needs them. They would literally drop whatever they are doing for her. Even if she gets a damn papercut." Nadia told her.
"Really?" Jade asked. "Why is that?"
"Well you know the story of the doppelgänger and their blood." Nadia said.
"Yeah, the Petrova doppelgänger blood was the one that made the Original Vampires... Originals. And to break the sun and moon curse so Klaus could activate his werewolf side." Jade said. "But what does that have to do with Elena?"
"That's it. Elena is...was the only Petrova blood that was useful." Nadia told her.
"But not anymore?"
"No. Elena is a vampire now. Her blood is no use to anyone but the Travelers. It was until…" Nadia started.
"The miracle baby?" Jade said.
"Mhm." Nadia nodded.
"God, I feel bad for aunt Caroline. Uncle Damon's not here, her summer wasn't the best…" Jade
"And she's having morning sickness, some weird pregnancy cravings, excetra excetra." They heard a familiar say. "I'll be fine. I have you guys here now." Caroline smiled.
"Yes you do." Katherine said as she slung an arm around the blonde's shoulder.
~THE SALVATORE BOARDING HOUSE;OTHERWORLDLY~
A song is playing on the radio, Damon is flipping pancakes while dancing and mouthing the song. He has a bottle of bourbon in his hand and he is chugging it as he cooks. Bonnie is stepping into the house, a teddybear in her hand, along with a book. She hears the music, smells the food and smiles a bit. Damon is taking a large gulp of bourbon as she enters the kitchen and clears her throat. Damon stops dancing, clearing his throat in the process.
"I didn't know you cooked." Bonnie said.
"I don't. How'd you sleep? Me... not good. My 1994 mattress was very lumpy. Whatcha got there?" Damon asked.
Bonnie looks down at her belongings in her hand. She waggles her bear.
"Oh, Ms. Cuddles, I lost her when I was nine. But I went into my house last night and...here she was." Bonnie told him.
Bonnie lifts up the book she had been carrying.
"I also found this at my Grams's house. Her old grimoire." Bonnie told him.
Damon walks over to the radio, with bourbon in his hand.
"Yeah, well I found this. Drank it last year when Ric died."
Damon told net before he removes the CD that was playing.
"So we're in this snapshot of another time, or...something." Bonnie said.
Damon twists the CD rack with his hand covering his eyes. He picks one.
"Everything that existed in 1994, still exists." Bonnie told him.
"For better, or for worse?" Damon asked.
He kisses the CD in his hand before putting it into the radio. He turns the radio on and the music begins to play, but Bonnie hurries to click it off.
"Listen, there was a time when I couldn't practice magic. This grimoire taught me alot, maybe...I can reteach myself." Bonnie said.
Damon turns the radio back on.
"If you were still a witch. Which with our luck, and your skill--probably ain't the case." Damon told her.
"Would a little support kill you?" Bonnie asked.
"You know, I am acutely aware that we are in some otherworldly time dimension. However, do you ever think for one second that maybe it's you being negative reacting to my natural self negative-ly?" Damon asked.
"You're ridiculous." Bonnie looks at him, speechless, yet appalled.
"Nope, I'm consistent." Damon smirked before he puts two pancakes onto a plate and sets it in front of Bonnie. "Eat your pancakes. Oh, and--" He grabs the newspaper from the counter and drops it in front of her. "--you can do a crossword puzzle." He smiled.
"Oh, gee, thanks--" Bonnie picks the newspaper up. "--breakfast with my least favorite person, and a crossword puzzle, from 1994." She turns her back to him, opening the paper. "Alright, what's a seven letter word for--"
Suddenly, the sky darkens like before. They look up in surprise. Damon is looking in the window and sees the eclipse.
"You've got to be kidding me. Bonnie, look at the date on that paper." Damon told her.
"It says, May 10th, 1994. It's the same day as yesterday." Bonnie looks down and reads.
They exchange looks.
"We're living the same day all over again." Bonnie said.
"Well that proves it, we're in hell. Our own personal, custom-built hell. And you're in it with me." Damon raises his bourbon. "Bottoms up." He drinks.
