Chapter 2
I'm planning on 10 - 15 chapters in this story. The chapters will probably grow longer as the story progresses.
Caitlin sat at the edge of the entrance ramp to the pipeline thinking. She clasped her hands in her lap as she remembered all the team had been through in the past few years, Thawne, Zoom, Savitar. The villains never seemed to end. She was so caught up in the memories that she didn't even see, much less hear, Barry approaching her.
"Hey." Barry interrupted her thoughts, standing at the bottom of the slight incline.
"Oh... hey." She responded awkwardly. She hadn't forgotten at all the last conversation the two had had.
"I figured you'd be sitting here... we used to come down here whenever we were stressed... or confused." Barry reminisced.
"Yeah, we've been so busy lately that we hadn't had time to be stressed enough to seclude ourselves down here."
"I guess I made you pretty stressed out today." Barry admitted, rubbing the back of his head slowly.
"Well..."
"I'm sorry Cait." Barry apologized quickly. "I know I was reckless, and I deserved your scolding for it."
"Barry, I know you're going to go into the line of fire for others... I know it's your job. I just... when you ran into that warehouse after me, it looked like you were going to die, it looked like you had died." Caitlin explained.
"I know, I understand."
"No... No you don't Barry." Caitlin stood. Barry looked at her puzzled. "Barry, I've seen you closer to death than anyone else. But your heart literally stopped beating..." Tears looked to be welling in Caitlin's eyes as she explained the events. "Barry, for more than a minute, you had no pulse. None."
"Cait... I'm so sorry." Barry rushed forward, brushing rogue tear from Caitlin's cheek. "I never meant to scare you like that."
"I know you didn't. And I am so grateful that you did rescue me from Snart. I know I overreacted when we got back to Star Labs... but, I was just so scared for you."
"Oh, Cait." Barry embraced her comfortingly, rubbing the shock and rundown from the day's turnout out of Caitlin. He kissed her forehead softly, massaging her back gently. "I promise you Cait, I won't ever run into something like that blind again." He looked into her teary eyes caringly. "I promise." He hugged her tight again. And he wasn't, he made a promise and he intended to keep it.
Yes, I know. It's a short chapter... a really short chapter, like the first. But I'm doing this story in scenes kinda, so they'll probably be no more than a few thousand words at tops, but I'll try to do them longer than these first few.
