"In a relationship…" he repeated confidently, but she was still at a loss.
"…"
"You know, since morning…"
"…" she was concentrating hard,
"We've been trying to convince that bastard that we're together."
"Yes…" she answered hesitatingly,
"And he is still sitting at the coffee shop right now, watching the house."
"Uh-huh…"
"And I just don't want to fall out of the role…" he explained with a grin, "So I need these details to feel this whole thing, you know…"
"…"
"Just as you needed that kiss this morning, right?"
"Okay, okay I see…" she rolled her eyes with a sigh.
"You should have seen your face, it was priceless!"
"Really? I'm glad you have so much fun, but now you should rather come and choose a movie to watch…" she advised, then suddenly got up and sat on the sofa, followed by him, "Oh, and don't forget to let me know if you need anything else… you know, to feel the role." she added with a challenging smile on her face.
"Actually…" he couldn't help to tease her, "There's really something."
"…"
"I think you should move a bit closer… I mean we're together, so you shouldn't be that far as you're now, mostly if he sees us from across the street."
"Right…" she agreed with a sigh, and sat a bit closer. "Is it good enough?"
"Uhm, not really…" he smiled and pulled a cushion right before him, "Look, I'm putting this here… so you can lean against it."
"Okay…" she answered slowly, perfectly knowing what he's doing… and as she moved closer, he picked up the blanket what was still there from the previous night, "A blanket, are you serious?"
"Just for… you know," he answered with his boyish smile and gently wrapped it around them.
"Yeah, of course. It's pretty cold in here…"
"Uh-huh… So how does it feel, comfortable?"
"Well, I'm not really sure…" she pretended she was thinking, enjoying that she was the one who surprised him now, "Actually, this cushion is not so convenient, usually my back is aching if the surface is too soft, so I think it has to go…" she added cheekily and threw it onto the sofa, leaning against his chest with a sigh, "Hm, much better now…"
"You know, I've never thought MY workout will be good for YOUR back," he chuckled as she suddenly felt his arm around her waist, pulling her closer, "Just because it's much safer this way…"
"Of course…" she tried to hide her smile.
"It's very easy to fall down from a sofa."
"Yeah, I heard that too…" she agreed and just enjoyed his closeness… sinking in his arms made her feel simply wonderful, and she was sure in his arms was the place where she wanted to spend the rest of her life in… his embrace around her waist felt strong and gentle, but mostly loving as he was stroking it unconsciously, while he just lost himself in the sweet scent of her hair and the softness of her body against his… feeling her in his arms, made him more and more relaxed, because he finally had her as close as he always wanted her to be… so they were completely lost in their own little world and neither of them could have told how much time has passed, when they were still watching the dark screen with the controller in her hand…
"Is there a chance we'll watch something?" he teased her softly, as he regained his senses.
"Uhm yes, yes of course. I just wanted to settle a bit…" she tried to pull herself together, "So what do you want to watch?"
"Just choose anything…"
"I don't think it would be wise, because if I choose, that will be a romantic movie for sure."
"But that's no problem, I like these kinds of films."
"Really?" she turned a bit to see his face.
"Yeah, I used to watch tones of romantic movies with my sisters and their friends on every Friday night."
"Why, you didn't have other things to do?" it just slipped out before she could think.
"Of course I would have," he chuckled. "But they always begged me to stay, so I couldn't do much…"
"Uh-huh."
"What?"
"Nothing."
"Come on, just say it if you've already started…" he teased her.
"They wanted you to stay, because…"
"We were fine together?" he cut in with a smile,
"No, rather because all of them was in love with you!"
"Oh, come now!" he laughed up with disbelief.
"Gosh, you can't be so naive, David…"
"…"
"Okay, then tell me one thing, how many of them did you date with?"
"Well, actually…"
"So?"
"As I come to think of it… with all of them."
"What?!" she turned around, when she realized he was joking.
"You really should have seen your face…"
"Very funny."
"Thanks, I know!" he replied with a grin, "But seriously, why do you think they were in love with me?"
"Why? Because every teenager girl is in love with her friend's hot brother, that's why…" she laughed instinctively, when she realized what she'd just said, but before she could say anything else, he cut it,
"And would you have fallen in love with me too?…" he asked as a sudden, and she didn't know what to say for a few seconds… then she decided she'll choose honesty,
"Yeah, probably yes…" she declared, surprising him with her answer.
"…"
"Hey, what is this conceited smile on your face?" she asked, slapping him playfully.
"This is not my conceited smile, but my happy one."
"Oh, your happy one, really? And why are you so happy?"
"Are you kidding with me?" he chuckled, "You've just admitted that you're in love with me…"
"What?!" she laughed up from the bottom of her heart, "I've never said something like that…" she denied with a smile, when the doorbell was ringing from downstairs and she jumped up to answer it.
"Hey, where are you going? We haven't finished yet!" he got up quickly and went after her,
"Someone has to bring up the food."
"So is it not true?…"
"Do you want me to go down for the pizza or what?" she stopped at the door, holding the keys in her hand.
"No… but we're not finished!" he repeated, grabbing the keys, but she just bit her lip with a smile as she was watching him hastening downstairs…
A few minutes later he got back with a big pizza box, a plastic bag with full of ice creams and drinks… and a beautiful bouquet of flowers.
"What's that?" she asked, staring at the flowers in his hand. "Is this the new gift for the orders?"
"Not exactly…" he smiled and put everything down, except the bouquet, "I've ordered this for you."
"For me? But… but how? Don't say you can order everything from one place."
"No, I just left a note when I sent the order, 'big tip for flowers'… and it seems it worked, so it's for you…" he smiled and handed it to her.
"…" as she was staring at the flowers, her smile was unreadable and a bit absent minded.
"So do you like it?"
"Is it for Rob, to see it?"
"What?"
"You ordered it for Rob, to see you get me flowers, so we're together?" she asked with her poker face.
"Do you like it?"
"Just answer the question, please."
"Uhm, it's not useless that way too, but… it's mostly for you."
"For me?" she looked up at him, toying with the wrapping paper in her hand.
"Yeah, it's just a little kindness… something you'll hopefully like," he added softly.
"Then… thank you, it's beautiful." she smiled a bit shyly, hoping it really meant what she longed for.
"Or do you think it's too old fashioned?" he asked, suddenly pulling her back to reality.
"…"
"Giving flowers…"
"It depends on what it really means," she couldn't help to say it aloud, and he knew the answer was important to her…
"It's just a simple gesture, a man gives flowers to a woman… in the most common sense." he smiled, and found in her eyes what he was looking for.
"I think I have to get a vase…" she remarked sweetly and stepped to the kitchen counter, while he just watched her as she was taking down a vase, got some water and started preparing the flowers… He found this scene so utterly cosy and comforting, actually it was one of the most simple things in life, but he could watch her like this forever… for a moment or two he even wandered off what it would be like at home with her on an average day… at home with her… "Oh, look at that! There's also a card in it…" she remarked as she found a little piece of paper amongst the flowers.
"…"
"So is it a stolen flower then?" she chuckled, finding funny that he was so lost in his own thoughts.
"No, not at all!" he regained his senses and picked it out from her hand, "This card is from me…"
"From you, really?" she asked surprised.
"Yeah, but… I think you should only open it when I left."
"But why? What did you write on it?" she asked with a cheeky smile.
"Just… just don't open it right now, okay?"
"Yeah of course, if you want…" she tried to be as nonchalant as she could, but she was awfully curious, "But now, please give it back to me."
"I think I rather put it up here on top of the cupboard…"
"Hey, I can't reach it from here!"
"Yeah, that's the point in it," he smiled. "It's safer this way, because I'm sure you would open it as soon as you can."
"That's not…"
"True?"
"Well, okay… maybe I would try to open it," she admitted, what made him chuckle, "I said MAYBE…"
"So we both agree on, it's the perfect choice… and if I can remember you still haven't answered to my question…"
"What question?" she asked nonchalantly.
"Please, don't start it again…"
"Okay, then why don't we eat instead, hm?" she suddenly changed the subject, picking up the pizza box with a cheeky smile and went back to the living room…
"Uhm… don't you need a plate or anything?" he smiled as she tore up the box, then stopped like a kid caught in the pantry with an opened jam jar in her hand.
"Why are you asking it?"
"That's why…" he chuckled and pointed as a drop of pizza sauce landed on her hand, "Wait, I'm getting you some sort of napkins… here you are," he handed her a paper towel and joined her on the sofa.
"Thanks," her smile was grateful. "You know it's pretty good, I should order pizza more often."
"A little variety after all those Chinese food, right?" he smiled and took slice for himself,
"Yeah, that's for sure… so what do you wanna watch?"
"Anything you want, just pick a romantic movie, no problem. I've almost seen all of them anyway."
"That was a bit conceited, wasn't it?" she laughed with disbelief.
"Don't you believe me?"
"Well…"
"But why would I not tell the truth?"
"Because you surely just want to impress me…"
"Really? And why do you think I want to impress you?" he enjoyed the little blush on her face.
"Because that's what men are like…"
"Uh-huh," he watched her with a smile, "Then you know what? Let's make a bet!"
"What… do you really wanna bet?" she asked with disbelief.
"Yeah, choose a movie and I'll find out which one it is from only the summary."
"Okay, if you think so…" she agreed, having no doubt it will be an easy win.
"But you have to use an official summary, not the one you'll create…" 'damn it' she thought, he already knew her to well, but she tried to be nonchalant,
"Why do you think I would create a new one?"
"Because I know how politicians and lawyers can talk, so…"
"It seems you don't have a good opinion of me at all…" she remarked with a laugh.
"Believe me, I have the best opinion of you, but I know it wouldn't be a fair play."
"Well… okay," she knew he was right.
"But you can skip the actor's names."
"That's correct, but now let's talk about the prize…" she added quickly, and he could saw the excited gleam in her eyes.
"If I win, you'll answer a question for me."
"Gosh, do you really think I'm that stupid?" she laughed up, while he just asked innocently,
"Why?"
"I think we both know what you want to ask."
"It can be anything."
"No… find another thing."
"Right, then you'll do something for me."
"…"
"Isn't that good either?"
"It depends on you will be a gentleman or not."
"A gentleman? What do you think, what will you have to do?" he asked with a cheeky smile on his face, seriously interested in her answer.
"I don't think on anything, I just remarked that I hope you'll be a gentleman, that's all."
"But of course, and if you still think my choice is not okay for you, you'll have a veto."
"That's acceptable, and if I win…"
"I think you don't have to think on that, it's a waste of time."
"Okay, Mr. Self-Confidence!" she laughed up, "But we'll see… so if I win, YOU'll do something for ME."
"Sure, and I'm just saying that you don't have to hold yourself back, because I'll do anything," he flirted.
"Really? Just don't be so sure of that!"
"But there's no way I can lose, so…"
"Okay, then let's see!" she smiled and picked up her phone with her free hand while she was still eating her pizza. A few minutes had passed, when he couldn't help but teased her,
"…Are you so afraid you'll lose?"
"What?" she looked up from her phone with a chuckle, "Where are you getting that from?"
"You have such a hard time choosing, it seems you want to go for sure."
"I just can't decide between two movies, but right let's pick the harder one… I hope you don't mind?" she asked with a challenging smile, but he was just as confident as before.
"Of course not!"
"Fine, so the summary says… a superstore magnate man and an independent shop owner woman fall in love via the internet - both unaware that he's trying to put her out of business…."
"Are you kidding with me?" he asked with a laugh.
"Why?… Don't say you already know it."
"It's too easy…" he enjoyed to see her face, "So is there a chance this movie has Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks in it?"
"What?!"
"So it's You've Got Mail… just as I thought," he grinned.
"You're cheating!"
"Cheating?!" he laughed up with disbelief, "How could I cheat?"
"I don't know, maybe my mobile's screen is reflecting on the TV or something."
"Just accept you've lost."
"I can't believe it!"
"So?"
"Okay, then tell me what you want…" she shrugged her shoulders nonchalantly, but he just smiled.
"…"
"Well?"
"…"
"Haven't you figured it out yet or what?" she chuckled and sipped a bit from her coke, just as he finally answered with a confident smile,
"I want to spend the night in your bed…" he said and she spat her drink like a fountain…
To be continued…
