The sea was calm that day, and the sun shone brightly in the clear skies above that wooden ship. It had been two days since Yamcha and Nami sailed away in Buggy the Clown's pirate ship with the goal of reaching the orange haired girl's homeland.

The trip had been quite uneventful and free of hardship. Luckily, Nami was an excellent navigator and knew exactly how to handle the ship. The vessel also had a lot of food stored in, which was lucky since neither of them knew how to cook very well. The duo didn't talk much during the beginning of their voyage, preferring to stick to each doing their own thing. With his confidence now renewed, Yamcha was constantly seen practicing forms and doing image training on the ship's deck, very dedicated to regaining the power he lost during all those years without training.

Nami mostly just took care of the navigation and made sure the voyage went ok. In her downtime, she would either draw maps or go check out the gold she had taken from the clown pirate. That's pretty much how the first two days went.

However, humans are sociable creatures by nature, and eventually, they got bored. Taking a break from her work, Nami went to the upper deck to check out on what her new travelling partner was doing. Turns out that Yamcha too was taking a little break, sitting on the ground as he felt the sea breeze in his face. It was the perfect opportunity to strike up a conversation and get to know the guy a bit more, it would also help her take her mind off Arlong and the villagers for a little while.

"Hey, Yamcha!" The girl approached him, walking up to his side. "You sure do train a lot, is that how you got so strong?"

"I guess you could say that…" He said, feeling a bit embarrassed by that. "Although I'd say most of the training I did wasn't very normal."

"What do you mean by that?" She asked, intrigued.

"Well, my first teacher was my world's finest martial artist at the time." Yamcha's tone was very nostalgic, remembering the good old days. "So far, nothing that out of the norm. But then, a few years later I got to train with the god of my world himself!" He was very proud as he uttered those words.

"What?" Nami raised an eyebrow. "You trained with god?"

Yamcha smirked. "And that's not all. I then died, and got the chance to train with an even greater god while in the afterlife, before I got brought back to life of course."

Nami didn't really know what to say in that situation. The man was clearly a little bit insane, of that she was quite sure at this point. But then again, she did see him fly and create explosive energy balls with his hands, and he was also incredibly strong. So maybe it was better to just go along with whatever he says until he can defeat Arlong for her.

"That's… great!" She answered. "It sure explains how you have all those amazing powers."

As Yamcha heard that, he immediately got an idea.

"You know, actually, anyone can develop those powers with the right training." The man with the scarred face said, confidently. "They all come from the ki we all have inside us, even you could learn them if you wanted."

Nami made a coy smirk, he had to have been joking.

"If you want, I can teach you a thing or two." The fighter suggested.

Nami thought about it for a few seconds, wondering if there'd be any downsides in indulging in that man's wild ideas for now, but she concluded that so far he hadn't shown any bad intentions, so the least it could happen would be that she'd end up wasting her time.

"Ok, i'm in." The girl decided, still skeptical. "What are you gonna teach me?"

The former desert bandit was really pumped up, he'd never had a disciple before, and teaching Nami would be a great way for him to spend his downtime during those long boat trips. "Alright, Nami!" He said, very excited. "First, I'm gonna teach you how to fly!"

To be continued

-x-

So yeah, you guys managed to convince me to continue this fic. I guess the Yam-train won't be stopping anytime soon, and I'm very excited about what's to come. This chapter was a bit on the short side, but that's because it was a bit of an interlude since I'm still not 100% decided on a few elements of the story.

One of them is the love interest. One Piece has a lot of female characters so it's kinda tough for me to choose one, that's why I'm asking you guys to leave suggestions on who should be the lucky girl in the reviews, along with any other criticism or commentary on the story. My DM's are also open.

Until next time!
