Imagine Me Without You

Chapter Seven

"Would you like to introduce yourself to the class?"

Kagome stared at the sea of students before her. Taking in the many different faces, hair colors, and eye colors. Those with visible Quirks and those who looked relatively "normal." She looked them all over before taking a breath and speaking, "Aizawa, Kagome. I'm seven years old as of three months ago; I like to sing...my favorite Heroes are Eraserhead and All Might, and my Quirk is Harmonic Control." She'd practiced this with her dad for a week.

"Very good! Harmonic Control," the teacher looked thoughtfully, "you can...give commands through song?"She was asking, trying to understand if she'd taken the name of her Quirk the right way.

"Yes, ma'am."

"Interesting, very interesting. Let's see, go ahead and take a seat next to Kirishima-San. Kirishima, raise your hand, please."

A boy with shoulder-length black hair lifted his hand, and red eyes captured Kagome's as she walked forward and took a seat on the boy's left. He grinned and gave her a thumbs-up before returning his attention to the teacher.

"We'll pick up where we left off yesterday. Kirishima-San, help Aizawa-San to the right page,"

"Aizawa-San!"

Kagome stopped as she heard her name being called from behind her. "...Kirishima-San?"

"Yeah, hey! What are you doing after school today?"

"After school? I was going home..."

"Boring!" He grinned, "come to the arcade with me!"

"The arcade?" She frowned, "I can, but not for long. It's my first day, so my dad will be expecting me home...I think."

He smiled at that, "I won't keep you long; I just thought we could be friends and get to know one another."

"Friends?" She had none, so the idea was appealing. "I'd like that. You'd be..."

He listened, "I'd be what?"

"..." she blushed, "you'd be my first friend."

"What? No way..." he brought a hand to his face to cover up his cheeks, not wanting to expose the light flush. "Th-then, I'll be your best friend. I must be! The first friend almost always becomes the best friend! So, you can call me Eijiro from now on."

Kagome smiled, "please call me Kagome then."

"Yeah, Kagome!"

Hearing him yell out her name, Kagome felt her ears heating up like Eijiro's cheeks had earlier.

"Oh, let's go; lunch is starting!"

(That Night)

'Maryjane and her brother Marc will make apple pies for the County Fair. Each pie takes seven apples to make. If Maryjane has a basket of apples, and her brother Marc has a basket with seventy-two apples, how many apples does Maryjane have if they made twenty-one pies with no remaining apples...fifty-four.' She wrote the answer as she read it. Math coming a bit easier to her, more than science and social studies.

"Show your work. It does the teacher no good if she doesn't see how you got your answer," Shota said beside her. Watching her solve the problems with absolute ease.

"...sigh..." she went back and wrote the problem out as she was supposed to.

"How was your first day? Homework aside."

"It was good...I made my first...best friend."

"Oh? What's her name?"

"..." Kagome put her pencil down and looked up at Shota, "why does my best friend have to be a girl?"

"...because you're too young to be making me worry about guys."

Laughing, Kagome shook her head and picked her pencil back up before returning to her homework. "His name is Kirishima, Eijiro."

"...hm."

She glanced at her dad, "what?"

"...nothing."

She smiled but said nothing about his concern. After all, he was her dad; he would have to deal with this on his own time. Her job was to cause him to worry; his job was to put up with it.

"What are we eating for dinner tonight?" He asked, standing and walking over to the fridge as he opened it up to see what they had. He'd been cooking a lot more since he adopted Kagome. No longer surviving off of sleep and fumes, he actually maintained a healthy lifestyle now that he was taking care of someone other than himself.

"Spaghetti sounds good,"

"Spaghetti does sound good," he acknowledged the truth of that statement as he looked to see if they had what was needed. "I'm going to make a quick grocery run; want anything else while I'm out?"

She shook her head "no." Her eyes were glued to her schoolwork as she finished showing her work.

Shota waited at the checkout; ingredients for supper were being scanned while he made sure that he'd grabbed everything he needed.

"Oh, Eraser, is that you?"

He stalled in his movements, turning to see a familiar sea green-haired girl; he pulled his money out and tried to hurry the payment process along.

"It is you! I was sure I recognized your grumpy look!"

"I wasn't grumpy,"

"Haha! Are you doing anything? We should go out!"

"I'm going home and eating dinner."

"I'd love to join you! Your cooking?" Her eyes lit up, "oh wow, I didn't know you could cook."

"I'm eating dinner with someone already."

"Oh, that's a riot!" The woman slapped her knee as she laughed hysterically. "You haven't dated anyone since as long as I've known you. We should totally just get married."

"Not likely."

"Hahaha!"

He sighed, "I really have to go; someone is waiting for me at home."

She stopped laughing and sighed, "are you seeing someone?"

"...I guess you could say I'm in a committed relationship."

"EH!? No way...you're cheating on me."

"That's impossible," he muttered, pausing; Shota glanced at her and frowned, "Joke, only this once...you can join me."

Her eyes lit up, and she chased after him. She had no idea what to expect, and he had no idea how this would go over, but hopefully, it would end all her silly marriage proposals and supply him with a semblance of peace.

Or maybe not...
