Summary/disclaimer: Time for another chapter of Twin Terrors. Enjoy the 3500-word chapter. I don't own Metroid; Nintendo and a few others do.
Spectre watched Samus like a hawk. The more data he understood very well just how dangerous she was.
Every single method she employed continued to amaze him. When she was said to be so dangerous it terrified the pirates? They meant it, which just meant he had more reason to take her as seriously as possible.
"Lower level, the commander said not to let it reach Phantoon." Spectre heard as he dropped down, his armor flashing as he did so. "Deploy all units. The hunter dies." One of the pirates stated before Spectre hummed, unsure of his next move.
"Capture is impossible," Spectre stated before he hummed to himself. "I will engage the enemy; future data is still required," Spectre added as he started marching forwards.
If he engaged Samus now? He'd have a chance of stopping her before Phantoon was killed. However? Spectre did not like the idea of engaging an enemy he knew almost about. It clashed with everything he had been taught.
"Sams Arryn is an Alpha Class threat," Spectre stated before he paused. "If they were smart? The command would set up a three-pronged ambush, cutting off her options of escape and neutralization of enemy weaponry." Spectre put in as he shook his head.
He checked the footage that his drone had recorded, showing Samus killing more hostiles. She was clever, resorting to missiles only when the enemy seemed powerful for their use. It left baiting her into expending ammo out of the question.
"What is the status of the weapon?" Spectre heard as he turned at the sound of a noise behind him. "Send weapon to kill the hunter. Send weapon now." The voice said before he rolled his eyes.
His commander referring to him exclusively was something that he could barely endure. While it was an accurate moniker? It garnered no amount of respect when it came down to it. however? There was no real-time to argue his point. He didn't know nor care, that was something that could be saved for after this mission was retired.
(With Samus)
Samus turned and engaged the monster as it hopped towards her. A missile fired from her arm, smashing into the creature's skull which finished it off. The monster collapsed into a pile of liquid on the ground.
"Hmm," Samus stated before she turned to look around, curious as to the next move.
That warrior who had watched her wasn't a pirate. They hadn't the rugged look, nor the lack of discipline for such a deed. It had watched her and then retreated before they could engage each other. It also didn't seem to have a goal in mind besides observing her, she had a hunch it was studying her.
Whoever had sent it? The creature was interested in fighting her and her entirely. However? She had some doubt that it could be biding its time to wait for a much better attack. The soldier was just as well armoured as she was and looked just as armed for a fight.
Did the pirates steal or manufacture something equal to her? The thought didn't occur to her, but it held some merit.
Either way? She had a mission to accomplish when it came down to it.
(With Spectre)
Spectre turned to look over his shoulder, turning and shooting a zoomer, watching as the creature collapsed to the ground. It screeched before dying as he lowered a hand onto its shell. His gauntlet extended a needle from its centre into the creature's skull, sucking energy from it and into his armor.
"Hmm, it seems there's still local fauna alive, interesting," Spectre stated before he hummed, looking around as he did so. "I am curious if they were left to their own devices. They could pose an additional level of security." Spectre added as the creature crumbled to nothing.
"Power levels at full charge, total estimation of power level, 24 hours." Spectre heard before he sighed. "Please proceed to navigation marker." Spectre heard before he turned.
"There still must be a target to kill. I cannot falter from my objective." Spectre stated before he cracked his fingers.
There was so little he could leave to chance. If he wasn't given an enemy to engage? Then he didn't know what he'd do as a response. Samus was his enemy, but a smart soldier didn't fight an enemy they didn't know or understand… And he was smart enough to know that.
'How much damage will she do before we find a weakness in her armor? If Kraid cannot stop her? I doubt the other commanders will be able to stop her.' Spectre mentally asked himself before he closed his eyes.
He nodded to himself before he started to march back and into the caverns as he sighed to himself. Their army was not equipped to stand against her as an enemy. It disappointed him that their army was so bad and he wasn't allowed to handle the enemy his way. It came off like they didn't know how to handle a real war.
'Is that why they sent for me?' Spectre mentally questioned himself.
"The soldier has been detected on Kraid's sublevel." Spectre heard as he raised an eyebrow. "We need to recall him. The hunter will be descending sooner or later." Spectre also heard as he rolled his eyes.
"Hmm," Spectre stated to himself while he shook his head. "I need to collect more data on her," Spectre added before he clenched his fist.
"Recall the soldier," Spectre heard while he shook his head. "NOW!" Spectre also heard before he dropped and into the base with a raised eyebrow.
"I am on my way," Spectre responded, annoyed.
"Then why are you not here already?" One of the pirates stated before he growled. "Commander needs you here!" The pirate added to which Spectre stayed silent.
"He could have just stated that," Spectre stated, continuing the march down and into the caverns. "Where is he? Aran has killed Kraid. She will be here soon." Spectre added before he shook his head.
"Ugh," Spectre stated to himself while he raised an eyebrow. "There are plenty of soldiers and none of them wants to battle Aran. I cannot believe this." Spectre added with annoyance.
"NOW!" Spectre heard while he crossed his arms as he nodded to himself while he started to dwell on this plan.
If the pirates fought her and failed? Then Spectre would be more annoyed that he was the only one capable of this war. There was indeed a bigger issue for him to handle.
An army that couldn't stop one person in battle? It spoke of either a lack of organization, a lack of manpower, or plenty of incompetence on their part. He'd raise a complaint about it at another juncture.
He slowly started to wonder what happened next. They'd run into more issues if she was able to reach deeper into the base. There was more time for them to mount a better defense. He might as well engage her the next stop they made.
He wasn't going to simply stand around when it came down to it. More soldiers died the longer he neglected that issue when it came down to it. He'd also be able to learn more about her if he battled her on more even ground.
Author Notes
Phew. Another chapter is done! I want to point out that I plan on chapters being longer and such. The next chapter will be in 2 months or so and will be 2000 words. I will make chapters after that way longer, but they will take longer. The next chapter will show Spectre and Samus encountering each other and setting up a fight. Until the next chapter, Lighting Wolf out!
