Once the birds lost interest in pecking the shock remote, Bob climbed up the tree, retrieved the remote from the rest, and once back on the ground, he crushed the damn thing with his giant foot and fled.

Bob wondered what had happened to him. Not long ago, he wouldn't have hesitated to plunge a knife into Bart Simpson's heart. But, not only had he spared the boy, he'd also saved the life of his oafish father, and before that, he'd lost his desire to kill Krusty.

Had Bob gone soft? When Bob looked into Bart's fearful eyes, he couldn't help but recall when they'd saved each other's lives at the dam. Perhaps a part of him remained from the time he tried to redeem himself, a part that still wanted to live a good, honest life, despite setbacks such as Cecil's betrayal and the incompetence of Chief 'Piggum'. Maybe this was a sign that Bob should try again.

Bob's sudden renewed outlook on life was briefly knocked out of him when he stepped on yet another rake. He'd never imagined that he would come to loathe a mere garden tool so very much.
