After getting trampled by all of those elephants, Bob somehow managed to stand up and stumble back to his motel. He was almost surprised that he could still move at all, but funnily enough, he'd found himself under elephants before: it was one of those segments on Krusty's show where the clown invited zookeepers and their animals to be interviewed, one of the few remotely educational parts of the program. The animal guest had been an Asian elephant, and for some reason Bob couldn't understand, the keeper had brought a male during its musth. The beast went on a rampage, and Bob had unfortunately been in his way.
Bob fumbled with his room key and unlocked the door. It was a dingy little room full of birds that had obviously been stuffed by an amateur taxidermist. He wobbled into the equally unhygienic bathroom and removed his shirt; his torso had turned almost completely purple from bruises. Just touching them refreshed Bob's pain, and he hissed, longing for a large bottle of wine and some painkillers.
Despite the bathroom mirror being cracked and filthy, Bob traced his fingers over the reflection of his long, pale face. Many times in the past, Bob had stared at his reflection this way, usually after taping a particularly brutal and humiliating show. His mussed hair hung over his dirty, scraped and battered face like a wilted flower, and his eyes had very dark, almost black rings underneath them. Bob would have washed his face, but when he turned on the sink, the water came out brown. Bob settled for trying to brush the cactus thorns out of his hair, no simple task.
As he worked, Bob considered just leaving this vile place and going far away to some place without elephants, cacti, or especially rakes. If he didn't kill Bart, he wouldn't risk getting arrested and tossed back into prison. Things happened in there that made getting driven through a cactus patch look like nothing.
Of course, thinking about prison reminded Bob of who had landed him in prison in the first place, and the reflective moment passed. Once Bob looked slightly more presentable, he went out to purchase some tea and writing utensils. He needed to relax, and he needed to plan tonight.
