Chapter 21: Roaring Sports Festival
It was finally the day everyone was waiting for, the day of the Sports Festival.
Before that Will finally told everyone, everything about her past.
From the early days as a Guardian of Kandrakar to the final battle with the original Dark Mother.
And she told the remaining the students about her curse, which greatly shocked everyone, but everyone agreed to help her, anyway they can.
Midoriya was in his apartment, ready to leave for the big day.
"Izuku, please be careful and don't get hurt." Said Inko, right behind him.
"I won't." Said Midoriya.
"I'll record the whole festival in H.D." Said Inko excitedly.
Midoriya looked back at his mother and gave a smile.
"Do your best, son." Said Inko with a smile of her own.
Midoriya gave a nod.
"Okay, i'm leaving now." Said Midoriya as he walked away.
The arena was surrounded by thousands of people and different stands selling food, merchandise, and sometimes both.
Both countless citizens and heroes alike arrived to this stadium to watch this event take place, each filled with excitement and impatience for the students of U.A. to compete.
While the stadium filled with its audience, several pro heroes were posted all across the area. Th
is was to insure both safety and that the press that awaited by the U.A. wouldn't storm in again.
Mt. Lady, Kamui Woods, and Death Arms were few of the many heroes that were assigned for security.
While they patrolled outside of the arena, Mt. Lady made a quick stop at one of the stands for food.
While Mt. Lady went to order her food, the stand owner seemed rather attracted to the giant hero, the two other heroes remained a bit back just talking to one another about her.
"I'll take one order to go please." Said Mt. Lady.
"Whoa Mt. Lady, is it really you." Said the owner.
"And hold the salt, will you?" Asked Mt. Lady as she was drooling.
"Yes of course, that's gonna be ten bucks." Said the owner which made Mt. Lady gasp silently.
She made a pose with a cute face.
"Oh no, my moneys in another costume." Said Mt. Lady with a sad tone on her voice.
"So hot, this is on the house!" Yelled the owner, holding up a box.
"Aren't you a dear!" Yelled Mt. Lady with a smirk.
"Have you no pride?" Asked Kamui Woods.
"No wonder Shirou never wants you." Said Death Arms.
"Yeah, guess it's a good thing he got a job as a teacher." Said Kamui Woods in agreement.
They heard the news from Shirou just after the U.S.J. incident that he would become one of U.A.'s newest staff member, all three of them congratulated him for this opportunity but knew they probably wouldn't see him as much either.
Even so he was still their friend and partner, they all wanted to stay in touch.
Not only that but Shirou said he was bringing his wife to the festival, so as the get a good knowledge of this world, much to Mt. Lady's jealousy as she wanted Shirou for herself.
They soon began walking away.
"I was hoping i could get some scouting while i was here." Said Kamui Woods.
"Yeah, too bad we're stuck doing security this time." Said Death Arms, looking back.
"Looks like they called in Pro Heroes from all over to guard this thing, quite a show." Said Mt. Lady, noticing the Pro Heroes everywhere.
They heard squeals and turned around to see a group of people gathered.
"What's going on?" Asked Mt. Lady to one of the people.
"One of U.A.'s newest teacher had arrived and she's the number 1 hero in Paris, France, meaning she's practically All Might's equal." Replied a person in excitement.
"Oh, and who is she?" Asked Kamui Woods.
"The Cyber Human Hero, Cybersix." Replied the person.
The trio looked on a head to see a woman, she typically wears her black leather outfit, consisting of high heels, redlined cape, fedora-like hat and fingerless gloves. Her hair is black and styled short with long bangs, partially obscuring her dark eyes. On her arm is the tattoo "Cyber-6".
Cybersix went up to the trio.
"Do you know where i can find the teachers?" Asked Cybersix politely.
Present Mic came up to her.
"You must be Cybersix, follow me, i'll sure you where it is!" Yelled Present Mic as he walked ahead with Cybersix following, not before saying goodbye to the trio.
Meanwhile in the student locker rooms, Class 1-A chatted after getting themselves prepared for the upcoming event.
"Ah man, I was totally hoping i could wear my costume." Said Ashido with disappointment after hearing earlier they would wear the U.A. training uniforms.
"Well everyone will be in uniform, that'll be fair right?" Asked Ojiro professionally.
"But aren't we allowed to use support items in this?" Asked Jiro while she continued stretching beside Michiru.
"So long as we have signed paperwork for them, how'd you think i was allowed to use the Heart of Kandrakar?" Asked Will.
"But who needs them, all we need is our quirks and fighting spirit to show the world what's up!" Yelled Kirishima, flexing his arm as he felt ready to show off what he could do.
"I wonder what they have in store for us in the first round." Said Sato as he was nervous.
"No matter what they prepared, we must perceive." Said Tokoyami while he sat down beside Shoji, who nodded in agreement with Tokoyami's words.
"Everyone get ready, we're heading for the arena soon!" Yelled Ida as he opened the door into the room.
While some of the class stretched or chatted, Midoriya thought about his conversation with All Might a week ago.
He recalled that this would be his moment to stand out and show the world that he was here.
Don't worry All Might, I won't let you down! Yelled Midoriya with determination.
"Midoriya." Said Todoroki.
When Midoriya turned from the lockers he saw Todoroki approach him, he seemed calm as usual but for Todoroki to talk to him was a first.
"Hey Todoroki, what's up?" Asked Midoriya in nervousness, as Todoroki never wanted to talk to him.
Yoarashi and a few classmates took notice of the Son of Endeavor.
"From a projective standpoint, i think it's very clear that i'm stronger then you." Said Todoroki.
Midoriya was taken by surprise after what Todoroki said, he said this so calmly but with the intent of intimidation.
"Yeah." Said Midoriya as he nodded weakly, since he's nowhere near as powerful as All might yet.
"However you got All Might in your corner helping you out." Said Todoroki.
Midoriya let out a gasp.
Yoarashi recognized this side of Todoroki, even though it wasn't as cold as it was when they first met he knew he wasn't playing around.
"I'm not here to pry about what's going on between you two, but know that i will beat you." Said Todoroki as Midoriya let out another gasp.
Todoroki looked next over to Michiru who grew slightly nervous by the boy.
"The same goes for you Kagemori, ever since the recommendation exam you've managed to beat me twice." Said Todoroki.
"Your quirk, and your skills have shown me that you're a formidable opponent." Said Todoroki.
"And I can't let someone like you get in my way, which is why you'll lose this time." Said Todoroki.
Michiru's positive expression went as she crossed her arms, giving him the cold shoulder by not responding back.
Todoroki knew he was done declaring war on these two and began to walk away towards the door.
"Man, what's with these declarations of war latley?" Asked Kaminari.
"Yeah, what's the big deal man, why are you picking a fight of a sudden?" Asked Kirishima got up from his seat and walked up to Todoroki, grabbing his shoulder.
"And right before we get started?" Asked Kirishima.
Todoroki shrugged his hand off.
"We're not here to be each others friends, don't forget this isn't a team effort." Said Todoroki as he began to walk off.
"Wait a sec, Todoroki." Said Midoriya before he left the room.
Midoriya gave off a speech about how Todoroki was better and that everyone from U.A. will be gunning for them but will not loose no matter what it takes.
Yoarashi felt better to see how Midoriya stood his ground against Todoroki, but even so his hate against Endeavor and his son was still strong.
When he walked over to check on Midoriya, Todoroki looked over at Yoarashi, but was met with a cold and dark stare.
Your no better than your old man Todoroki. Thought Yoarashi, tightening his fist.
Shaking off his anger and frustration before any of his classmates could see.
Todoroki ignored it as he finally exited the room, leaving the class awkwardly quiet.
They eventually shook off the cold tension as it was finally time to head out into the middle of the arena.
Will wanted to say something at first, opening her mouth but holding her voice back because a side of her knew it wasn't worth it, while the other wanted to challenge Todoroki.
She realized if she talked back or became stubborn like usual it could make things worse.
So she decided to hold back her feelings and be the better person for now.
I don't know what's got into you Todoroki, but I'm not gonna stand by and let you get away with it. Thought Will as she clenched her fist as fire came out of it.
"WHATS UP SPORTS FANS, IT'S TIME TO GET YOURSELVES READY, AND I'M TALKING TO YOU MEDIA REPORTERS TOO!" Yelled Present Mic.
The crowds cheer roared all across the stadium, both heroes and citizens alike.
Everyone was ready, even the reporters and camera people were dying to get anything good.
"THIS YEAR WE'RE BRINGING YOU ALL SOME OF THE BEST MOMENTS IN THE SPORTS FESTIVAL GUARANTEED, LET ME HEAR YOU SCREAM AS WE GREET OUR FIRST YEAR STUDENTS TO THE STAGE!" Yelled Present Mic.
As the crowd continued to roar in excitement and impatience as the students of Class 1-A were the first to enter the stadium.
"NOW THE FIRST TO ENTER THE STADIUM, THE STUDENTS THAT GOT THE SKILLS TO PAY THE BILLS, THE HERO COURSE CLASS 1-A!" Yelled Present Mic.
Michiru tried to keep her focus on the festival, and yet she couldn't take her eyes off the surrounding crowds that welcomed them.
She expected to be nervous at first and yet, she felt a familiar feeling she had during the baseball championships back in Anima City.
She wanted to work her hardest to satisfy the roaring crowds, but also please herself knowing that what she was doing was important but also an incredible experience.
"There're so many people, cheering for us." Said Michiru aloud, continuing to think back to her baseball team from Anima City.
Even though the bears weren't exactly the smartest or best players, they were always willing to work together and play fair.
"This is what to expect when becoming a pro, but hopefully we'll do our best while these people watch us." Said Ida, marching forward confidently knowing that this was his moment to prove himself to his family and honor their hero legacy.
"I'm feeling kinda nervous, anyone else feeling the same way?" Asked Kirishima, trying to keep his cool while walking behind Bakugo.
"What are you talking about?" Asked Bakugo.
"I'm ready to win this." Said Bakugo, smirking up while they continued on.
While they made it to their spots, the other first year classes made their way out of the entrances and into the stadium.
Present Mic called the names of each of the classes, starting from the other hero course Class 1-B and so on.
By the time the students stood side by side, prepared for what came next.
"Now for the introductory speech!" Yelled A familiar teacher of U.A. spoke through a microphone set on the main stage as the males of the crowd eyed her.
"It's the R-Rated hero Midnight!" Yelled one of the men.
While some of the crowd eyed Midnight's body and her tight costume, most of the U.A. students awkwardly watched the R-Rated hero show herself off before preparing to continue.
"Somebody should talk to Midnight about what she's wearing." Said Kirishima as he awkwardly watched.
"Yeah, that costume should come with warning." Said Kaminari as he nodded beside Yoarashi who seemed to have been blushing just as Kaminari was.
"Is it really appropriate to wear a uniform like that in a high school game?" Asked Tokoyami as he kept his composure but couldn't believe Midnight had the audacity to be wearing such a costume.
"Silence everyone!" Yelled Midnight, using her small whip as a warning before she continued.
"And for the student pledge, we have Katsuki Bakugo!" Yelled Midnight.
The class was surprised to hear Bakugo would be the first year rep as he walked over to the stage.
"He's the first year rep?" Asked Midoriya nervously, worried that Bakugo would act like his cocky self on the stage.
"But why not someone from recommendations?" Asked Will in wonder as they looked over but suddenly heard a female U.A. student annoyingly spoke over them.
"Only for the hero course exams." Said the student boldly in annoyance while some of Class 1-A looked over.
"Oh right." Said Midoriya.
"That girl obviously hates us." Said Sero.
"Well it seems like we're off to a good start." Said Michiru, sweat dropping from the side when Kaminari agreed straight with her.
"Yeah and we've Bakugo to thank for them not liking our class." Said Kaminari.
It took only a few seconds for Bakugo to think on what he would say just before speaking, while everyone watched and waited.
"I just wanna say I'm gonna win." Said Bakugo with a blank voice.
I knew he'd say something like that! Yelled The entire class as they were speechless, they figured just based off of Bakugo's personality he would say something cocky and it looked like they jinxed it.
While they stared speechless at Bakugo, all of the first year students bood and yelled in disappointment and anger at the boy.
"Bakugo, what the hell were you thinking!?" Yelled Will as she stepped out from the group and yelled at the boy who just looked down at his peers.
"Yeah, your suppose to do out class." Said Midoriya weakly.
"You're supposed to set an example when you're giving the speech, why would you be so rude?!" Yelled Michiru as she marched himself over with both the Class Rep and Deputy now scolding Bakugo for his terrible mistake.
"It's not my fault when you all are just stepping stones for me to victory." Replied Bakugo.
"I'm gonna crush that overconfident jerk!" Yelled Tetsutetsu as he clenched his fist.
"I can't wait to knock you down to size!" Yelled Tetsutetsu.
I don't think it is overconfidence, the old Katchan would have laugh while saying that, making a joke, this is him pushing himself. Thought Midoriya while Bakugo began to quietly walk back down and walk away while the three Class leaders stood watching.
Ida continued to scold Bakugo, when Michiru gave up knowing he wouldn't listen she tiredly sighed feeling like she was dealing with a brat child.
He bumped Midoriya's shoulder.
And turning the rest of us as targets at the same time. Thought Midoriya.
When the commotion began to finally die down, Midnight knew it was her cue.
"Without further ado, it's time for us to get started!" Yelled Midnight.
"This is where you'll being feeling the pain, the first event of the Festival, what could it be?" Asked Midnight as she hit her whip up, a hologram projection came up as it revealed a spinner rapidly randomizing just before stopping.
Obstacle Racing? Asked Michiru.
This is gonna be interesting. Thought Michiru as she crossed her arms and started to listen just as everyone else did.
"All 11 classes will participant in this traitorous contest." Said Midnight as she begins.
"You will racing on a four kilometer track that goes around the outside of the stadium." Said Midnight.
"I don't want to restrain anyone at least in this game." Said Midnight.
" As long as you remain on the track, you're free to do whatever your heart desires!" Yelled Midnight as she licked her lips just before finishing, issuing the students to prepare to race at a red entrance that flashed green to their side.
"Now then, take your places, contestants!" Yelled Midnight.
As the students all walked over to the starting line, many of them were close together at the very entrance while others were more spread out.
The entrance had three lights at the top, with the first one already turning green.
The students got themselves ready to run as the second one turned green next.
Michiru and Midoriya were somewhere in the middle of the group, Michiru felt nervous knowing this was against the entire school but she knew Shirou was watching her.
All Might, i can do this, i have to be smart about this, i'm still not able to control One for All yet, so i have to be careful when i use it. Thought Midoriya.
That means i have to go beyond, i hope your watching All Might! Yelled Midoriya.
I can do this, I won't let the training you've done for me go in vain, I hope you're watching me Shirou, because I'm gonna give it my all! Yelled Michiru as she kept her mind in check, prepared to sprint when the last light turned green and so the race for the finish began.
"Begin!" Yelled Midnight.
Everyone ran inside.
The race into the dark hallway was both tight and difficult.
With it being that every single U.A. student was trying to get through causing a huge jam as they struggled to run through.
Countless students including Class 1-A as they struggled to get through the crowded hallway.
There's to many people! Yelled Michiru as she struggled to get through, almost nearing the exit of the hallway.
Michiru suddenly got an idea.
This is gonna be close but screw it, nothing personal people but this is a competition! Yelled Michiru as she angled herself forward while she focused on her tail to grow.
It only faintly glowed for a moment when her tail grew in size, forcing people around her to move which gave her room to launch forward from her tail.
As she launched herself in midair, she used this moment to transform her arms into the wings of a bird as she glided in the air.
She easily flew over the countless students including Class 1-A that struggled above her, some even taking looks at Michiru completely jealous about her quirk.
By the time she was reaching the exit she noticed a large fog seemingly spreading throughout the tunnel, the fog was cold but not enough to freeze her thanks to her fur but by the time she got a better view, the entire floor and upper walls were covered in ice.
She saw Todoroki starting to get ahead, realizing he used his quirk to slow people down to get a head start while they were stuck on ice.
Some of Class 1-A were experienced enough to counter this with those such as Bakugo avoiding the ice midair by shooting explosions out of his hands, Yaoyorozu creating a metal staff from her hand as she propelled forward and even Will and Yoarashi using tjeir wind abilities.
Michiru was already with the group, remaining in the air just until Todoroki stopped using his ice while the other students started to recover and continue the race on ice.
"Nice try Todoroki but don't think you can get away that easy!" Yelled Michiru , diving down to get more speed as she now passed Yaoyorozu and Kirishima, following behind Bakugo and Yoarashi.
By the time she had gotten close enough she dropped to the ground, morphing her limbs as her fur thickened and claws sharpened.
Until she could get off the ice she needed balance not speed so she wouldn't slip, so morphing her limbs into those of a wolf could help her run on looked back, taken a bit by surprise seeing that his classmates managed to dodge his ice.
I didn't think a lot of people were able to dodge that, I should've known my classmates would see that coming. Thought Michiru.
"I'm not gonna let you get away Icy-Hot!" Yelled Bakugo as he shot out a large explosion in the air as he shot forward faster, trying to catch up to Todoroki who still had the lead.
Yoarashi on the other hand was already catching up to Todoroki, flying just high enough to avoid contact with the ice as he glared at the boy.
"You think you're so much better than everyone else but I've outsmarted you buddy!" Yelled Yoarashi.
"Guess what, you're gonna lose toda-" Said Yoarashi as he got closer to Todoroki, he couldn't even finish when he didn't realize till after he had just been tackled by something metallic and fast.
He grunted from pain and rolled backwards, completely caught off guard.
All the students came to a stop to see familiar robots staring back with their emotionless eyes.
Most of the students except those from recommendations knew these were used in the entrance exam, but as they saw further behind the machines things became much more interesting.
The students stood nervous as they watched several zero point robots, so much larger in size stood side by by side with one another while the smaller robots approached.
"Are those are the zero point villains from the practical test?!" Asked Kaminari stopped running immediately after catching up.
"Are they crazy, look at the size of those things?!" Yelled Michiru as she had never seen anything that size before.
She recalled the Beastman that went crazy with Nirvasyl Syndrome but these machines seemed even larger.
"And this is what they called obstacles?!" Yelled Will.
"Where does the school even pay for these things?" Asked Yaoyorozu.
"So these were the zero pointers from the practical exam." Said Todoroki as he watched as one of the zero pointers started to approach him, slowly raising its metallic arm to strike just as Todoroki's arm started to emit freezing cold mist.
Todoroki remained calm and placed his right arm on the ground, focusing his power as his ice grew around him.
"They obviously went through a lot of trouble, but i did wish they preapred something more difficult." Said Todoroki as he swung his arm upward when he was ready to unleash his ice, sending a wall of ice towards the zero pointer as it was completely frozen solid.
"Especially since my dear old dad is watching." Said Todoroki.
Just as the ice had completely immobilized the zero pointer Todoroki continued to run, he looked back at the students and felt a sigh of relief but it would soon go away.
"Careful now, I froze them while they were off balance, on purpose." Said Todoroki , as the ice surrounding the zero pointer started to shatter due to the robots overwhelming weight.
The zero pointer started to fall towards the students, parts of its body breaking from the ice as it finally met the ground.
Creating a dusty but misty fog but slowly fading away just as the smaller pointers approached the students.
A/N: Sorry this one took a little longer, i was originally planning to do the OVA one first, but i decided that will take too long and just went with this chapter instead.
Like how i introduced to the latest hero in the U.A. staff, especially one that people probably don't even regonize anymore.
