Chapter 28: Shoto Todoroki: Origin
The two were still glaring at each other in a tense silence.
Midoriya thought to everything Todoroki said about his promise towards his mother and about his father.
"I can't loose this either, i owe it to everyone who supported me to try my best." Said Midoriya, his glare not leaving Todoroki's.
"I will beat you." Said Midoriya in determination, but was unsure as he knew how powerful Todoroki was.
Todoroki wasn't paying attention to him however as he flashed back to where he last saw his mother.
Flashback
A younger version of Todoroki was crying into the chest of his mother who rubbed his head in comfort.
"But honey, you still wanna be a hero don't you?" Asked his mother.
Todoroki stopped crying and looked up at his mother, tears still in his eyes.
His mother smiled at him.
"Just remember, stay true to yourself." Said his mother.
Present
I have forgotten, so much of what she said to me in those days. Thought Todoroki.
He was later brought back when he heard the crowd's loud cheering.
Many Pro Heroes, including Shirou and Luna were watching this match, hoping to see how this plays out while Endeavor himself was watching from the sidelines.
"THE TIME'S FINALLY ARRIVED Y'ALL, THE FIRST MATCH OF THE SECOND ROUND, FROM THE HERO COURSE OF CLASS 1-A, WHO WON BY A LANDSLIDE, AND THE SON OF THE NUMBER 2 HERO, SHOTO TODOROKI!" Yelled Present Mic as Todoroki walked up to the ring.
"AND THIS KID ALMOST WALKED OUT OF HIS MATCH UP BUT PULLED A STUNNING COMEBACK BY SHOWING US SOME IMPRESSIVE MOVES, ALSO FROM THE HERO COURSE OF CLASS 1-A, IZUKU MIDORIYA!" Yelled Present Mic.
He'll start with an ice attack. Thought Midoriya.
I can't allow him to use that power of his to much. Thought Todoroki.
"BUT WHICH OF THESE RIVALS WILL ENHANCE TO NEXT ROUND?!" Yelled Present Mic.
The two heroes in training were glaring at each other and each held a pose, meaning their ready to fight.
So as soon as we start. Thought Todoroki and Midoriya at the same time.
"Ready, BEGIN!" Yelled Midnight as she waved her flag.
NOW! Yelled both of them in their mind as Todoroki began unleashing his ice from the ground.
SMASH! Yelled Midoriya in his mind as he activated One for All though one of his fingers and flicked on the ice, which made it fall apart and caused a backlash that made Todoroki cover his face.
The crowd gasped as they felt the backlash of the wind from that attack.
Luna and Shirou felt it too and covered their face.
Is One For All really that strong?! Yelled Shirou in his mind.
Soon the backlash ended and Todoroki uncovered his face.
Just as i expected, he's prepare to injure himself to counter me. Thought Todoroki as he saw Midoriya's broken finger.
"WHOA, MIDORIYA MANAGED TO BREAK TODOROKI'S ICE THROUGH ONE MOVE!" Yelled Present Mic.
He'd have no way of knowing how powerful Young Todoroki's ice is, so he abandoned restraint and fired off a shot with 100%. Thought All Might as he clenched his hand into a fist.
It's true that this is likely the only thing he could do against the ice barrage, however. Thought All Might as he began to sweat.
Todoroki released another barrage of ice from the ground.
Midoriya groaned in frustration.
SMASH! Yelled Midoriya as he used One for All through another finger to destroy the ice barrage.
"HE COUNTERED IT AGAIN!" Yelled Present Mic.
I don't know how much about Todoroki's fighting style, his attacks are so fast it's hard to collect data on him. Thought Midoriya as he held his arm that held the two broken fingers.
So during this fight i need to focus on finding an opening somewhere. Thought Midoriya as he hasn't let Todoroki out of his sight since the battle began and noticed an ice barrier right behind Todoroki.
The ice behind him is probably how he plans to keep him blown out by my smashes. Thought Midoriya.
Which means i was right to break my fingers. Thought Midoriya as he looked down to see his two broken fingers.
If i spent my whole arm on one powered smash when the ice held up, i'd be doomed. Thought Midoriya.
He looked up to glare at Todoroki again.
I can figure this out, c'mon, find a weak spot. Thought Midoriya.
I only got six more chances. Thought Midoriya in worry.
Todoroki took deep breath and exhale, and because of his ice powers, you can actually see his breath.
"Let's continue." Said Todoroki.
Midoriya gasped as Todoroki made another barrage of ice coming towards him.
He used a third smash on his finger which shattered the ice again.
Five more chances. Thought Midoriya.
"Man this is just crazy." Said Kirishima.
"Yeah, and to top it all off, both Todroki and Bakugo's attacks are similar to each other." Said Kaminari.
Bakugo looked at Kaminari in confusion.
"You both use your powers to blast people the whole stadium, and you don't have to pause between attacks." Said Kaminari.
"It's not as easy as you think, ya morons." Said Bakugo as he looked back at the match.
Both Kirishima and Kaminari looked at him in confusion.
"If you overuse your muscles yo'd risk tearing them apart, if you sprint to much you'll run out of breath." Said Bakugo as he explained.
He looked at his own hand.
We all have a limit to how much power we can produce, that's why i designed my costume the way i did, so i'll be able to fire off bigger blasts then my body usually allows me to. Thought Bakugo.
He looked up.
"Quirks are physical abilities too, they can get worn out." Said Bakugo.
"They can't be used non-stopped." Said Bakugo.
"I guess it makes sense when you put it that way, wonder if that's how you think Midoriya will beat Todoroki." Said Kirishima as he looked back at the match.
"You want an endurance match, but i'll end this quickly." Said Todoroki as he unleashed yet another barrage of ice.
SMASH! Yelled Midoriya as he unleashed a fourth smash through his pinkie finger.
His finger actually gushed out blood.
That's all the fingers in my right hand! Yelled Midoriya as he was in agony with pain.
Todoroki made another ice barrage but this time he ran on it as to gain advantage.
"TODOROKI HAD MIDORIYA USE HIS POWER AND IS NOW RUSHING TOWARDS HIM!" Yelled Present Mic.
Midoriya took out his left and began to power his finger through a bandage.
SMASH! Yelled Midoriya as he once again destroyed Todoroki's ice barrage.
Todoroki jumped off it and lunged for Midoriya.
Midoriya saw and gasped and barley dodged as Todoroki punched where Midoriya stood and the ground beneath him froze.
He made another barrage and it went after Midoriya and it trapped him by his foot.
Oh no, not good! Yelled Midoriya as the ice was starting to encase him.
Todoroki made another ice barricade behind him.
Midoriya growled and powered up his entire left arm and punched the ice which made a huger backlash.
Midoriya screamed in pain over his left arm.
He looked over to see Todoroki still on the battlefield as he made a barrier of ice to shield himself.
"That was much more powerful then any of your previous attacks." Said Todoroki.
Midoriya let out a gasp as Todoroki had gotten out of his barrier.
"You're trying to keep me away, smart." Said Todoroki as he stood up.
It's not just as his quirk is powerful, his judgement, movement and mobility, reasoning, all of his abilities are incredible. Thought Midoriya.
"That kid's already better then an advearegae Pro." Said one person in the stands.
"What you'd expect as the son of the Number 2 Hero in Japan." Said another person.
Midoriya looked down at the ground as he was trying to think of a new game-plan.
"What's wrong, are you really that worn out from defending my attacks?" Asked Todoroki.
Midoriya growled as he looked up and gasped when saw that Todoroki himself was covered in his own ice, little pieces of it anyway.
He's shaking. Thought Midoriya as he saw Todoroki's arm was shaking.
Is he reaching some kind of limit? Asked Midoriya as his eye began to darken as he tried to stand up.
I got to keep fighting. Said Midoirya as he was struggling.
C'mon kid, don't overdue it. Thought Shirou as he was starting get worried about Midoriya as he noticed the bruises on both Midoriya's fingers and left arm.
"I'm sorry about this, but thanks for drawing it out." Said Todoroki as he looked up to the stands, to where his father, Endeavor, was.
"Look at him, he's furious i'm not using his power." Said Todoroki as Endeavor was glaring at him, his fire from his body were large with anger.
Midoriya growled as he began to sweat and later remember about Todoroki's declaration earlier, particularly the part where Todoroki refused to use his fire quirk.
"With your hands like that, you can't fight anymore can you, so why don't we end this?" Asked Todoroki as he looked at Midoriya's injuries.
Ice began to form around Todoroki again and made another Barrage of ice heading towards Midoriya.
Present Mic let out a yelp.
"TODOROKI CONTINUES HIS OVERWHELMING ATTACKS!" Yelled Present Mic.
"COULD THIS BE HIS FINISHING MOVE?!" Yelled Present Mic.
"I AM NOT DONE YET!" Yelled Midoriya which made Todoroki gasped and back away in surprise.
His barrage was destroyed once again and it's backlash pushed Todoroki away.
Everyone, mainly, Michiru, Will, Shirou, All Might and Bakugo gasped as they were wondering, could Todoroki loose this?
The barricade on Todoroki's back could barley stop this one as he nearing the edge.
Just before he got to the edge he made a block of ice below his very feet, just stopping him barley.
Dammit. Thought Todoroki.
Will and Michiru looked at the stage and gasped at what they saw.
Midoriya had used the same broken finger to break it again to make another Smash.
Using your already finger to make smashes?, don't be suicidal Midoriya. Thought Will with worry.
Why would you go that far Midoriya? Asked Michiru with worry as well.
"Your trembling, Todoroki." Said Midoriya.
Todoroki's eyes widen in surprise at what he just said.
"It's easy to forget that Quirks are physical abilities, and that means there's a limit to how much cold your body can take, right?" Asked Midoriya as he raised his right arm.
"I get it, usually you'd make up in temperature, by using the heat from your left side but you refuse to do that now." Said Midoriya.
Todoroki growled as he gave off an angry off look.
"Listen, we're all giving it our all, to try and win, to make our dreams into a reality, to become Number 1." Said Midoriya.
"You think you can win with half your strength?!" Yelled Midoriya.
"Look at me Todoroki, you haven't managed to land a single scratch on me yet." Said Midoriya as he clenched his right hand into a fist.
"SO COME AT ME WITH ALL YOU GOT!" Yelled Midoriya.
"Is he actually out of his mind?!" Yelled Michiru.
"Yeah in terms of power, Todoroki's got the advantage, why would Midoriya take his chance with Todoroki's fire, when he can barley manage his ice?!" Yelled Will.
Young Midoriya. Thought All Might in worry.
Endeavor merely glared as he thought back to what Midoriya said to him.
"That boy." Said Endeavor.
"Midoriya." Said Todoroki suddenly.
"What are you trying to do here?" Asked Todoroki in a demanding tone.
"You want my fire?" Asked Todoroki as he thought that was ridiculous.
"What did my monster of a father bribe you or something?!" Demanded Todoroki as he ran towards him.
"Now i'm mad!" Yelled Todoroki.
Midoriya, Will and Michiru noticed something.
His movements are- Thought Midoriya.
Slower, is it because he has so much frost in his body? Thought Will.
Maybe his power is like a magic meter like the kind you see in video games, if that's true he'd be running on empty. Thought Michiru.
Did he use all his strength using against Sero? Asked Will as she remembered that huge glacier from before.
In close quarters, there's no way he'll be able to dodge me. Thought Todoroki as he jumped towards Midoriya with a single leap.
Midoriya made his move.
The instant i moved my right foot, he's coming. Thought Todoroki.
Imagine the egg in the microwave, it won't explode. Thought Midoriya as his right arm is glowing with One for All which made Todoroki gasp in shock.
I got this, c'mon, i got this! Yelled Midoriya as he used punch Todoroki's stomach using the same arm.
Todoroki however froze Midoriya's left arm at the same time when the punch was happening.
"A SOLID PUNCH!" Yelled Present Mic.
Todoroki got punched away, barley making it to the edge.
"NOW THAT'S THE KIND OF ACTION I WANT TO SEE!" Yelled Present Mic.
Midoriya's other two fingers began to gush out blood as he screamed in pain.
"Whoa, Todoroki got a single hit on Midoriya." Said Michiru with eyes widened.
"Even though Midoriya looks beat up at this point." Said Will.
Why? Asked Todoroki.
He made another barrage of ice, which is smaller in comparisons to all the others, to which Midoriya barley dodged.
The ice attacks aren't moving as fast now. Thought Midorya.
Todoroki ran towards where Midoriya was and made another barrage, which Midoriya dodged and made another smash to blow Todoroki away.
Midoriya looked at his right hand before holding it up again.
"Should i step in, Midnight?" Asked Cementoss in great worry as he was watching the battle.
"Midoriya knows that Recovery Girl will heal his wounds, so he's being reckless and hurting himself." Said Cementoss.
"He's full of adrenaline, he probably doesn't realize how much pain he's in." Said Cementoss as Todoroki made another barrage of ice to which Midoriya's Smash destroyed again.
"But those injuries are bad, he probably won't healed in one go." Said Cementoss.
Shirou clenched his hand into a fist over how Midorya was being so reckless to the point where Luna was starting to get worried also.
All Might held his hands into his knees as he clenched to them also.
"Even if he wins, he might not fight in his next match." Said Cementoss.
"He's sacrificing himself, at this point he might end up with permanent damage." Said Cementoss.
Aizawa glared at Midoriya as he remembered to what he said to Midoriya about his Quirk.
His power has lessened but he's gained so new control. Thought Aizawa.
It's not that he's fighting recklessly, he's just doing everything he can to win the match within his current skill level. Thought Aizawa as Midorya and Todoroki began to fight in hand to hand combat.
But man, even if it can be healed, he'll still feel intense pain and will still be putting up a fight in a absurd amount of resolve. Thought Aizawa.
What's driving him? Asked Aizawa.
Why's he so intent? Asked Aizawa.
He's the greatest hero and i wanna be just like him. Thought Midoriya.
In order to that i have to be strong enough to become Number 1. Thought Midoriya as he ran towards Todoroki.
I know my motivation might seem stupid compared to yours. Thought Midoriya as Todoroki made another barrage of ice.
Midoriya activated One for All through his right thumb and held it towards his mouth.
SMASH! Yelled Midoriya as he released another attack to blow Todoroki away.
Todoroki made another shield from the back to block himself.
"Why are you putting yourself through this?" Asked Todoroki as he struggled to get back up.
"I wanna live up to people expectations." Replied Midoriya.
Todoroki looked up in shock as he saw Midoriya ran towards him.
"I wanna see people smile, while doing something good for them, i wanna be a Pro!" Yelled Midoriya as he thought of All Might.
"Whatever it takes to be a hero!" Yelled Midoriya.
Todoroki got lost in thought over his mother that he didn't notice Midoriya head butted him on the chest.
"That's why i'll give it my all, just like you should be!" Yelled Midoriya.
"There's no way for me to tell what you've gone through or why your even here, your life is so much different then mine, but right now, stop screwing around." Said Midoriya.
"If you wanna reject your father fine, but you don't have the right to be Number 1 if your not going to use your full power." Said Midoriya.
Todoroki looked at Midoriya in shock as he remembered a memory he'd rather forget.
Flashback
A younger Todoroki, maybe a child, was laying down on the ground his vomit next to him as he was gasping for breath while crying.
His father, Endeavor merely glared at him with an unimpressed look.
"Now stand up, if you get hurt that easily from just one punch, you can forget about beating All Might, or even a small time villain." Said Endeavor.
His mother ran up to him and drops down to Todoroki's level.
"Please stop pushing him, he's only five years old." Said his mother with a whimper in his tone.
"He can take it, get out of my way." Said Endeavor as he smacked his wife out of his way.
Todoroki looked up when he heard that and was shocked to see his mother with a bruise on her face and blood coming out of her mouth.
"Mama?" Asked Todoroki in fear.
Present
Ice began to form around Todoroki's left side.
"Shut up." Said Todoroki.
Flashback
Todoroki was cuddling with his mother and was crying to his hearts content.
"I don't want to Mama, please, i don't, i don't wanna be the guy he is!" Yelled Todoroki as he hugged closer to his mother for solace.
"I don't wanna be someone who bullies you and hurt people, Mama!" Yelled Todoroki.
His mother began caressing his head for comfort.
"But honey, you do still wanna be a hero, don't you?" Asked his mother with a soft tone.
Todoroki looked up at his mother with tears running down his face.
"Just remember, stay true to yourself." Said his mother.
"You can be the kind of hero you want to be, not what other make you be when you grow up." Said his mother.
Preset
Midoriya was coming towards Todoroki with his right arm powered by One for All.
"THAT'S WHY I'M GOING TO WIN THIS!" Yelled Midoriya as he struck a punch in Todoroki's stomach just like before.
"I'LL SURPASS YOU!" Yelled Midoriya as Todoroki was blown away by the attack.
Todoroki was still lost in thought as ice began to overflow his body.
Flashback
Todoroki was looking down at three children on a balcony with a sad look on his face as they were laughing and playing.
Endeavor came by and dragged Todoroki away.
"Ignore them Shoto, they live in a different world for the one i'm training you for." Said Endeavor as he was pulling Todoroki too hard as he can barley stay on his feet.
Later on that Night
Todoroki was walking into the kitchen to get a glass of water as he was yawning and rubbing his eyes when he heard his mother speaking to someone.
"Mom?" Asked his mother.
"I think i'm going crazy, i can't take it anymore." Said his mother with fear in her voice.
"Everyday, the children seem more like him." Said his mother as she was on the phone with a kettle of boiling water.
"And Shoto, that child's left side seems unbearable to me, all i can see is his father, i can't raise him anymore." Said his mother.
"I want to run away from this life." Said his mother.
Todoroki felt scared, did this mean his mother, was going away?
"Mama, what are you saying?" Asked Todoroki in fear as his voice trembled.
His mother looked back at him slowly as the kettle started making a screeching noise.
I remember. Thought Todoroki as he was still above the ground.
Todoroki was leaning back against the wall, with a bandage over his left eye, to where his scar would be today.
"Moronic woman, to hurt you at such an important time." Said Endeavor.
"Where did Mama go?" Asked Todoroki.
"Huh?" Asked Endeavor before he realized at what Todoroki said.
"Oh, she hurt my masterpiece, so i put her in a hospital to keep you safe and to keep her away from you so she won't interfere with your training anymore." Said Endeavor with an emotionless tone in his voice.
Todoroki shook in rage.
"That was your fault." Said Todoroki.
Endeavor looked back at him in surprise.
Todoroki's left eye began to flood with tears.
"Your the one who made her hurt me!" Yelled Todoroki in anger.
Present
I reject you. Thought Todoroki.
I will reject you, i refuse to use my left side. Thought Todoroki as he was struggling to get back up.
Midoriya gritted his teeth.
"IT'S YOURS, YOUR QUIRK, NOT HIS!" Yelled Midoriya.
He remembered seeing a news about All Might with his mother and All Might lecturing to those that their Quirk is their own use how they see fit and how only they can decide to be a hero if they want and his mother saying stay true to yourself.
I didn't realize how much i forgotten. Thought Todoroki.
You are not a prisoner of your own Quirk, it's okay to use your powers, to become who you need to be.
Steam began to come out of Todoroki's scare before fire came out.
A huge blast of fire enveloped the stage.
"WHA-IS THAT?!" Yelled Present Mic in shock.
Everyone was gasping in surprise at what they were seeing.
Todoroki's fire, in full power.
"Is that his actual fire?!" Yelled Michiru in great concern.
"Incredible!" Yelled Ida as this was the first time he was seeing this, as well as the rest of his classmates.
"There's no way Midoriya can beat him now." Said Will with worry.
He made use his father's power, Midoriya. Thought Shirou as he looked back at the boy in amazement.
Don't tell me you were trying to save Todoroki this whole time? Asked Shirou in shock.
"Your helping your opponent." Said Todoroki.
Midoriya gasped in shock as he saw Todoroki using both his ice and his fire at the same time.
"You fool, even though you wanna win this battle, now which one of us is screwing around?" Asked Todoroki.
"I wanted to, i will be a hero!" Yelled Todoroki.
Despite all odds, Midoriya gave off a smile.
Todoroki gave one off as well.
Endeavor did as well but for a different reason.
YES SHOTO, not only will you surpass me but that buffoon All Might and that Silver Wolf bastard as well, now give it all you got and don't even think of holding back. Thought Endeavor as his flames were bursting out of his body.
"Amazing." Said Midoriya.
"Why are you smiling?" Asked Todoroki which made Midoriya drop his smile.
"With those injuries, in this hopeless situation, you must be crazy." Said Todoroki.
Midoriya let out a grunt.
"Don't blame for what happens next." Said Todoroki.
With a stomp of his foot, the stage was completely covered in ice with his fire bursting out.
Midoriya's legs began to power up with One for All as he was prepered to make his final move.
Cementoss put his hands on the ground and activated his Quirk.
"That's it Midnight, one of them could be killed!" Yelled Cementoss as a wall of concrete began to form from where he was.
"His body won't hold up." Said Midnight as she took a piece of clothing off her arm and pink smoke emerged from her arm.
A huge barrage of blocks of ice came towards Midoriya now.
Midoriya jumped up to dodge the ice and towards Todoroki.
Gotta try and get close and give it everything i got! Yelled Midoriya.
COME AT ME WITH EVERYTHING YOU GOT TODOROKI! Yelled Midoriya as Todoroki let out a giant blast of his fire.
"I see now Midoriya." Said Todoroki as he raised his left arm that held fire within it.
His right arm began to glow with One for All as well.
Thank you. Thought Todoroki as he released his fire and Midoriya let out his final punch.
Several columns of earth came up from beneath them and it collided with both powers, making it a massive explosion, more then Bakugo's was.
It sent off a more massive wind which acutaly pushed people out of their seats, Class 1-A.
"THIS IS FRIGGING CRAZY!" Yelled Michiru as she couldn't belive that much power.
"I'LL SAY!" Yelled Kaminari.
"WHAT'S HAPPENING DOWN THERE?!" Yelled Yaoyorozu.
Shirou went in front of Luna to protect her as the Wind got to them as well.
Even the heroes outside could feel it.
The wind final began to calm down.
"Having a great power doesn't mean you'll be a good hero." Said Cementoss as he began to stand up.
"But these two are amazing." Said Cementoss as he looked back and forth between the two opponents.
Present Mic fell to the ground while Aizawa was still in his seat.
"WHAT HAPPENED JUST NOW, WHAT IS UP WITH THESE STUDENTS?" Asked Present Mic as he was still broadcasting.
Present Mic finally stood up.
"Man just how powerful was that fire to cause that explosion." Said Present Mic as he looked at the stadium.
"JEEZ WHAT'S GOING ON, IS THE MATCH STILL ON OR NOT?" Asked Present Mic.
Midnight, who was knocked away by the wind, stood up to look at the battlefield while rubbing her head.
Everyone got antsy when the smoke revealed who the winner is.
It showed Midoriya finally fell to the ground and fell unconscious and was over the ring.
"There, Midoriya is...out of bonds, Todoroki wins!" Yelled Midnight as she raised her whip to point at Todoroki.
"He advances to Semi-Finals!" Yelled Midnight as the crowd began to cheer.
A/N: What'd ya think of this one, i did the best i could as i stated once before i'm not good with fighting scenes as i have years TMNT Stories to that back up.
