"Can you imgaine the talent show is tonight?" Musa asked with a high pitch in her voice.
"Yes since you've been telling us about it since we got out of bed this morning." Stella said. "Way to get me nervous Musa!"
"Nervous, not the princess of Solaria!" Bloom said with a grin.
Stella huffed and took another bite from her salmon salad.
"Did you find another act for tonight Musa?" Layla asked.
"Not exactly, I'll be preforming a song myself, a duet actually with Riven." Musa said.
She shot a quick look at Samara, but said fairy was not paying attention. She was slowly chewing on her grilled cheese.
"Anyway tonight will be awesome!" Musa said.
"And tomorrow we have another lesson with Faragonda…" Stella groaned. "I hate that combined magic stuff!"
"We can practise some more this afternoon." Bloom said. "Although I would suggest to do it outside this time to prevent any…accidents…"
"Perhaps we should practise some as well, what do you think Samara?"
Flora looked over to the fairy of the Moon, who still seemed lost in her own world. Flora took her by the shoulder and gently shook her a little. Samara finally looked up.
"Sorry what?"
"I asked if we should practise our combined magic assignment this afternoon."
"Oh…yeah sure."
"Just make sure you're all at the square around seven tonight." Musa said. "You wouldn't want to miss a thing."
The Winx all went their seperate ways, Samara following Flora to her room. They practised for two hours before Flora was finally confindent enough for the next lesson.
"We could ask Faragonda if we can take the exam during the night, when your powers are strongest…" Flora suggested as the girls walked out of Flora's room.
"Nah we're good, I haven't heard any other girl from our class saying they can unlock the box." Samara said. "We'll pass easily."
"All ready for tomorrow?" Bloom asked from the small kitchen.
"As ready as we can be." Flora said.
"What about you and Stella?" Samara asked.
Bloom walked into the living room with a cup of tea.
"Well…we managed to move the box…" She said. "Away from the fire at least…" she slowly added.
"It's not our fault!" Stella's voice sounded from the bathroom. "Fire and sunlight are a bad combination!"
"Where are the others?" Samara asked.
"Layla and Musa are already at the square, making sure everything is ready for tonight." Bloom said. "And Tecna is in her room, testing some new device with her pixy Diget."
At that moment Stella walked out of the bathroom and looked at the fairies sitting on the couch.
"Shouldn't you all be busy getting ready?" She asked in a bossy tone.
"Get ready for what?" Samara asked.
"For the talent show of course!" "You can't just go downstairs looking like that."
"Hey what's wrong with this?" Samara asked looking down at her jeans and t-shirt.
Stella sighed deeply. "I can't even…" "Oh come on."
She pulled Samara on her feet and dragged her to her own room. "You can borrow some clothes from me."
Bloom and Flora looked at each other. "Guess we have to change as well to avoid being abducted by Stella." Bloom said.
At a quarter before seven, the five girls were making their way downstairs.
"Honestly Tecna if you would have just given me ten minutes you could have looked as good as the rest of us." Stella said annoyed.
"I don't care, I like the way I look so leave me alone!" Tecna said equally annoyed.
"Come on you guys let's just enjoy the show tonight without any fighting." Flora said. "We need to be there for Musa it's a big deal for her."
Tecna and Stella shot each other a foul look but nodded. They walked through the front doors onto the square.
"Wow it's beautiful!" Bloom said.
There were all different kind of lanters floating into the sky, illuminating the entire square. A long table packed with food and drinks covered one side of the square. And in the middle was the biggest stage Samara had ever seen. Even Stella seemed speechless for a second.
"There you are!" Layla said as she walked up to them.
"Hey how is it going, are you ready for your act?" Flora asked.
"Yep, ready to get Alfea and Red Fountain move their feet." The princess of Andros said. "I have to go, I'm the first one."
She disappeared into the crowd again. The rest of the Winx found themselves a spot at the front. It was very crowded around them and after spotting some specialists from Eraklion, Samara suddenly felt a bit uncomfortable in the dress Stella had picked out for her. Stella seemed to notice and leaned towards her.
"Relax you look fine, forget that you're a princess for tonight and allow yourself to let go for once."
Samara nodded. Stella was right, she did deserve to have one night of nothing but fun. No worrying, just fun.
"You guys want something to drink?" She asked.
After mentally noting what everyone wanted, she made her way to the long table, grabbed a tray and started to collect five different drinks.
"Oooh watch it please!" She said as someone else almost bumped into her.
That happened a few times more and she was beginning to lose her patience.
"Hey watch it!" She yelled after someone bumped into her and Stella's ice tea fell over.
The person turned. "I'm sorry I did not see you…"
Samara and Palladium stared at each other.
"Uh it's fine…" Samara muttered as she wanted to turn around.
"No I should have looked where I was going." Palladium said. "I will get a new one for you."
Samara wanted to tell him not to but the professor was already busy. The fairy of the Moon looked down to see that her dress was soaked as well. She groaned.
"Oh no, did I ruin your dress?" Palladium stammered nervously. "I'm so sorry…"
"It's okay, I wasn't very keen on it anyway." Samara said a bit quicker than she normally would. "It's Stella's though so she will probably get pissed if I don't get this cleaned right away."
"I can fix that for you if you want?"
Samara looked into his eyes and felt her heart twitch a bit.
"No thank you." She heard herself say. "I'll just go and get it cleaned up myself."
A flash of sadness crossed the elves eyes but he smiled nonetheless.
"Okay than…and again my apologies."
Samara nodded, put down the tray with drinks and walked past him.
Keep it cool, you know you can't let yourself go down that road again…
She quickly entered the school and made her way to her dorm.
Everything you feel for him is fake…remember that…
As she entered her dorm she pulled the dress over her head and threw it in the sink in the bathroom. She knew a spell to get rid of stains and she would clean the dress later. Marching into her room she noticed that she really didn't want to go back downstairs. The fairy of the Moon sighed as she looked out of her window towards the stage. Layla was already preforming her dance.
She really ought to get back to the rest of the Winx, it meant so much to Musa. And besides she had made herself a promise.
"Just have fun…" Samara muttered to herself.
How can you have fun when your heart feels heavy and tired?
Samara groaned frustrated. Suddenly there was a lot of noise coming from the square. Seemed Layla had finished her show and was getting a massive applause.
Finally making a decision, Samara opened her closet, put on some jeans and a blouse and headed back downstairs.
"There you are!" Bloom said. "What happened?"
"I spilled the drinks over Stella's dress so I had to go change." Samara said.
"Here you go." Flora said as she handed Samara a drink.
The fairy of the Moon muttered a thanks as she looked at the stage. She didn't say anything else as they watched how Stella preformed a song/dance routine and the specialists do their ritual dance. Samara smiled encouraging towards her brother when his eyes met hers but it was all fake. She felt empty inside. After the dance her brother, Brandon, Timmy and Helia joined them.
"You did great sweety!" Stella said as she gave Brandon a kiss on the cheek.
"Really an awesome show." Bloom said as she fell into Sky's arms for a hug.
Even Timmy and Tecna were holding hands, smiling a bit awkward towards one another. Samara felt her heart clench even more tight.
They all watched how Musa and Riven entered the stage.
"Thank you everyone for being here tonight!" Musa said through the microphone. "We could not have done this without you!"
A loud cheer errupted from the crowd. Samara held her hands against her ears.
"And now for the final act of tonight…" Musa continued. "Riven and I will preform a song." "It's a song about two people in love but not being able to share that love with the world."
Some sad "aaaah's" sounded through the crowd.
"But I cannot take all the credit for it, the lyrics are entirely made up by my good friend Samara!"
Samara looked up to Musa with big eyes. What was she talking about?
The music started and as Riven began with his first words Samara felt her entire body freeze.
You know I want you
It's not a secret I try to hide
I know you want me
So don't keep sayin' our hands are tied
You claim it's not in the cards
And fate is pullin' you miles away
And out of reach from me
But you're here in my heart
So who can stop me if I decide
That you're my destiny?
No…no this could not be happening right now…
"I didn't know you write songs Samara, it sounds great." Bloom said.
She turned around to see Samara completely turning white.
"Are you okay?"
Samara stared in horror as the song continued.
No one can rewrite the stars
How can you say you'll be mine?
Everything keeps us apart
And I'm not the one you were meant to find
It's not up to you
It's not up to me
When everyone tells us what we can be
How can we rewrite the stars?
Say that the world can be ours
Tonight
Musa's voice sounded beautiful and they almost captured the emotions behind the song but all Samara could do was stare at them, her mind had simply shut off. But suddenly one thought made it through the fog.
Where was Palladium?
Was he still at the square, listening to the song and putting two and two together? Would he realize that this song was about the two of them? Of course he would, he is intelligent after all…
"Hello, are you okay, you look awefull." Bloom continued.
Samara finally took her eyes off of the stage. "Yeah…just a bit cold that's all." "I'll go get my jacket real quick."
Without letting Bloom say another word, the fairy of the Moon turned around and headed once again for her dorm.
How do we rewrite the stars?
Say you were made to be mine?
Nothing can keep us apart
'Cause you are the one I was meant to find
It's up to you
And it's up to me
No one can say what we get to be
And why don't we rewrite the stars?
Changing the world to be ours
The voices of Musa and Riven echoed through the air, climbing towards the climax of the song. Samara did her best to ignore it as she walked up the stone steps towards the front doors when a figure appeared in front of her. She looked up to see Palladium stand before her. His eyes were wet and his face as white as a sheet. Samara instantly felt tears of her own form in the corner of her eyes.
He opened his mouth to say something but Samara cut him off. "
"I'm sorry…" She muttered before running past him, inside the school, all the way towards her dorm.
She closed the bedroom door and slid towards the floor, sobbing uncontrolably. All of the sudden she wished that she still felt empty from the inside, because the emotions she felt as she saw Palladium stand in front of her were more painfull…
