To say Ben had been in a rush would have been a major understatement. He almost fell down the stairs trying to get outside and grab his bike. His aunt and brothers had called after him trying to figure out what was going on, but he'd been so focused on just getting out and down to the hospital that he'd blown right by them.
Beck had explained what was going on, and Bruno had to rush out to physically stop him and tell him driving there in the truck would be quicker, and frankly safer given how panicked he was right now. The whole ride there he had been fidgeting, unable to keep himself still.
Kimi had been in quite the panic herself, and hadn't been able to give him all the details very clearly. But she had managed to get across Olly had apparently gotten jumped after he'd split from her and the others to head home and had been seriously hurt. She didn't know just how bad, but if it was enough for him to get an ambulance to the hospital he could only imagine it was bad.
The moment the truck parked, Ben leaped out of the back of the truck and sped straight towards the entrance. "Ben, slow down!" Berta called. "You're gonna have a heart attack and end up in here with him!"
Ben rushed through the door and to the front desk. He struggled to catch his breath and he looked up at the nurse behind it. "O-oliver Osman. What room is he in?" he asked panting. The woman stared at him blankly for a bit, then began typing on her computer.
"Oliver Osman… he's in room 420."
Ben made a mental note to make a joke about that later, and then thanked the women before turning towards the elevator and making his way off. The moments he has to sit still in the elevator made him go crazy. He hadn't known Olly for that long. But he had already proved to be a good and loyal friend.
The idea of him getting hurt because of him, even if it was indirectly, made him feel both nervous and guilty. He had to make sure he was okay. He reached the room and then stood in the doorway, completely out of breath. "Olly! Are you alright?!"
"Yeah, I'm fine dude."
Ben looked shocked as he saw his friend sitting on a chair. Olly's expression was just as casual as usual, which was quite a shock considering his arm was in a cast. "Dude, how are you fine?! Your arm is broken!" he shouted.
Olly hummed. "Yeah, they said I'll be in this for like four or five weeks. No big deal."
Ben looked at him in disbelief. Olley had always come off as a go with the flow sort of guy, but this was nuts. He then noticed another figure in the room, and jumped slightly. It was a man who looked… like an older version of Olly. "Hello there. You must be Ben," he said waving towards him.
Ben stared for a moment, and straightened up. From this guy point of view some dude just came bursting into his room and yelling at… what he guessed was his son? He had to be either his father or older brother. The resemblance was way too close. "Y-yes. I'm Benjamin Brittle. Sorry about making a scene Mr…"
"Osman," he said nodding. "And don't worry about it. Kimi told me you'd be on your way here. Didn't think it'd be so fast though. Ben has told me a lot about you."
He tried to remember to keep formal, but right now he really had a million questions he wanted to ask. Where was Kimi? What had happened to Olley? Did he have any idea who did this? Before he could ask any of them though, something crashed into his back. He fell forward onto the floor and felt a weight on top of him.
"Dude! I came as fast as I could! Are you alright!"
Olly stared blankly as Luna looked up at him worriedly. "Uh… I'm more or less fine all things considered, but Ben…" He pointed downwards, and the girl looked down and then flinched.
"Ow…"
After everything had settled a bit, Ben and Luna sat down and listened as Olly filled them in on everything. Apparently whoever had attacked him knocked him right to the ground, and they never even gave him a chance to get up and get a proper look at them before they'd left. The police had asked him a few questions, but had been honest about their chances of finding whoever was responsible.
Without any clues on where to start, the odds were slim to none. "We already know who did it!" Kimi yelled angrily. "It was totally Eddy and those idiot friends of his! We should just track them down and get some payback!"
Mr. Osman chuckled nervously as he tried to calm the girl. "Now Kimi, settle down. We don't want you doing anything reckless. We don't know for sure if those boys did it." She hadn't been in the room earlier because she had been outside blowing off some steam. Apparently she was going through a roulette of emotions right now, and the current one was anger.
Ben totally understood how she felt though. He couldn't think of anyone else who would have done something like this. If these were just some randoms guys, they would have robbed him or something. But Olly said they didn't take anything. They just attacked him. This had to be Eddy trying to get some payback for earlier.
He glanced over at Luna, and judging by she was looking back at him, she was thinking the same thing. "Either way, we're making sure this isn't happening again dude. We walk to and from school together. All of us," she said.
Olly scratched his head. "Guys, you don't have to-"
"Yeah we do," Ben said, leaving no room for debate. "No way is anybody getting the jump on you again. Plus I could use the extra exercise walking."
"Yeah! We're gonna be your own personal security squad!" Kimi shouted holding her fists up.
Mr. Osman smiled at the teens. "Well, you certainly made some good friends Olly," he said. He was glad to know his son would be being looked after. As much as he was trying to keep himself collected right now, his son getting attacked was quite a scary thing, so knowing they were willing to go so far for him put him at ease.
They stayed for a bit longer, but after a while both Ben and Luna had said they should probably get going. Ben didn't really want to go, but he couldn't keep his family here all night. And Luna had hitched a ride with her sister, so she was in the same boat. They said their goodbyes and headed out of the room and down the hall.
"Dude… I know we don't have any proof, but it had to be Eddy. I mean, who else would want to mess with Olly?" Luna asked, looking towards him. "I knew the guy was a jerk, but this is seriously messed up. We have to make sure to watch each other's backs from now on. And if he tries anything like this again-"
"Oh, I'm not gonna give him the chance to try something like this again," Ben said sternly. After the worry, panic, and relief had passed, Ben was feeling something entirely new. Pure unfiltered rage. Eddy had taken this way too far. Attacking someone, injuring them, just because of some stupid fight he started?
If he thought he was going to let this slide, he was dead wrong. The next time he got his hands on him he'd snap his arm right off.
Luna grabbed the back of his shirt. "Dude, what are you thinking?" she asked, concern clear in his voice. "You're not thinking about going after Eddy are you?"
He wanted to lie and say no. But lying or keeping quiet towards her never worked out for him. "Maybe…" he muttered.
"You can't!" she said, stepping in front of him. "Nevermind that he's probably gonna be waiting for you, if you go at him you're gonna be the one to get in trouble!"
"He jumped Olly! He's gotta go down!"
"I'm not saying he doesn't, but what good does it to anybody if you just rush him and get suspended, or arrested?!" she asked. "I get it dude, I do, but we gotta be smart about this! If we sink to what he's doing it isn't gonna help anybody!"
Ben scowled. He really hated to admit it, but he knew she was right. As much as he wanted to catch Eddy at school tomorrow and punch him right in the face, he knew it would only backfire on him. But he had to do something. If he just left things like this, he was gonna go crazy.
Luna could see how hard he was thinking and stepped forward. "Promise me you're not gonna do anything crazy." Ben looked down and gritted his teeth. Luna grabbed his shoulder firmly. "I'm serious dude! Promise me!"
"I promise…"
Luna sighed, feeling a bit of relief. After what happened earlier the last thing she wanted was him going at it with the jock again. If she was being honest, a part of her wanted to help him go after the jerk. But a knee jerk reaction was only gonna make things worse. "I promise we're gonna deal with him dude. He's not gonna get away with this."
Ben grunted. "You better believe he won't…" He promised that he wouldn't do anything reckless. He didn't say he wasn't going to do anything.
After heading home, Ben sat around the living room with the rest of his brothers. For the first time in a while he wasn't finding his thoughts being filled with his problems with Luna. It would have been nice if it hadn't been replaced with something so messed up.
"I'm dropping everyone off in the truck," Bruno said to all of them. "Picking you up too. I don't want anybody walking home alone." He didn't know how far Eddy would take this. He didn't put going after their younger brothers below him.
Beck frowned. "Are we seriously not gonna do anything?" he asked. Someone had gone after one of their didn't take that type of thing lying down. "We should be out there looking for those punks and getting some payback!"
"That's what we'd be doing back home!" Brady chimed in, pounding his fist into his palm. The twins were every bit as eager to get out there as Beck was.
Bruno sighed. "Back home whoever did this probably would have done it face to face. Heck, they probably would have called us out from the get go." He had lost count of how many times they had been called to a fight. After all, everyone knew if you messed with one Brittle brother, you messed with them all. And there was just a certain way you did things back on the island. Or at least in their town anyway. There were no sneak attacks or stuff like that. If you didn't fight man to man, you were a punk, plain and simple.
Pulling something like this would have turned the whole town against you. "But this isn't back home. So we can't just run out there and start throwing fists. All we can do now is keep our eyes out, stay safe, and hope somebody catches the chumps. If we just happen to get a chance to do something about it ourselves, then-"
"Got something."
Everyone whipped their heads towards Bruce, who had been silent as usual the entire time. His face had been in his laptop, which meant that he either had some important project going on, or he just didn't care about the conversation. Ben had been pretty sure it was the ladder since he didn't have any reaction to Olly, but it seemed like he was wrong. He turned the laptop around and showed them a number of images.
It showed three guys in hoodies, their faces covered as they moved down the street. "That's right around where Olly got jumped… wait, is this security camera footage? How did you get these?" Ben asked looking up at his brother.
Bruno looked suspicious. "You're not hacking again, are you Bruce?" he asked.
"You want to find out who got Olly, right?"
Ben and Bruno both shared a look. While their brother's… less than legal habit was something they should probably be worried about, they figured they could hold off on it for now. "How many pics did you get?" Ben asked.
Bruce began clicking through the images. While none of them showed Olly actually getting attacked, they had shown the three figures fleeing the scene, then going down several blocks before getting into a familiar looking car. "That's Eddy's…" Bruno said glaring. "He parked it a few blocks down."
"Clever dick…" Beck muttered. "Well, that should be all the proof we need to go and kick his butt, right? Or at least go to the cops with it?" he asked.
"Considering how we got this, I'm not sure cops are such a good idea," Ben said. "Besides, I'm not sure this is gonna be enough. You can't see the tags. At best he might get questioned or something, but..."
"Fine! No cops! Then let's just go kick is butt!"
"What are you boys talking about?"
Everyone jumped, save Bruce, and looked towards their aunt. She was looking down at them suspiciously. They all smiled nervously. "Hey auntie…"
She crossed her arms and leaned against the doorway of the kitchen. "You boys aren't talking about getting into something reckless, are you?" she asked.
"What? Of course not. Why would you think that?" Beck asked, not at all convincing.
She raised an eyebrow. "That's good. Because I would be really disappointed if you got caught trying to do something stupid," she said before turning around. "I mean, if you got CAUGHT, then I would have to do something about it. But I'm sure I won't catch you boys doing anything like that. Because I taught you better."
The brothers watched as they walked off, then all shared a glance. Every one of them grew a devious smirk on their face. "You heard auntie. We can't get caught doing anything to that chump," Bruno said.
"We're good at not getting caught at stuff…" Billy said.
Ben looked just as eager as his brothers, but then remembered something. "Guys! I… I promised Luna I wasn't gonna do anything reckless," he said.
They turned towards him. "Wait, did you two… like start dating at the hospital?" Beck asked, confused. "Because if not, what the heck dude? You're acting whipped. He beat up your boy! Screw promises!" Ben scowled towards him. It wasn't like he didn't want to get back at Eddy. But after what happened… he really didn't want to push his luck with her. If he was gonna do something, it couldn't be something that broke his promise.
Bruno held up his hand. "Now hold on Beck. A man has gotta keep his promises. Besides, we can work with this," he said turning back towards Ben. "Don't worry little brother, you can keep your promise to Luna. We'll take care of the rest. All you'll have to do is smirk and look punchable."
"Wait...am I actually gonna get punched?"
"Not if we plan this right, no…"
"...please plan this right..."
A/N: Looks like there's gonna be some trouble coming up between Eddy and the Brittle Brothers! Ben is angry about his friend, but he's also secretly kind of glad to have something to take his mind off Luna. But that doesn't mean the drama is done between them. So what do you think the boys have planned for Eddy? How do you think it's gonna turn out? Review Responses!
