"Do you like Luna?"
No...
"Guess that means we got the same taste in girls, huh?"
No...
"I mean I get vibes that Luna is… you know…"
Stop it…
"...but I know I don't know if I really have a chance with-"
Please stop.
"You do."
Please.
"In my opinion anyway."
Ben felt like his soul had left his body as he listened to the recording play over the intercom. There were a million things that should have been going through his head right now. How had Eddy gotten that recording? How had he known where they were going? How did he even get into the office to play it?
But he wasn't asking himself any of that right now. All he was going was praying, willing it to stop. To just… stop. He kept looking down at the ground, hoping that he was going to wake up soon and realize this was all one horrible nightmare, but it kept going. Revealing every bit of the conversation between him and Sam.
This couldn't be happening. This was… no, this was wrong. This was just-
"You promised…"
He flinched, and then forced himself to look up towards Luna. The girl looked at him as if she had just watched him kick a puppy. "Luna-"
"You promised you wouldn't say anything," she said. The way her voice sounded made it feel like he took a knife to the gut. She sounded so… hurt. "You promised."
Ben quickly shook his head. "I didn't, I swear. I didn't mean to, we were just…" he didn't know how to explain it. Not with everything going on right now. It would have been difficult to explain even if it wasn't. "Luna, I'm sorry. I didn't know he-"
She took a step back, and then looked at him with… anger? Sadness? He wasn't really sure. Her face had a mix of emotions that he couldn't quite place. "I… I gotta go. I gotta think, alone. I just… I gotta to go!" she said turning around and rushing out of the door.
"Luna, wait!" Kimi called.
"Oh man…" Olley said worriedly.
Ben was about to run after her, but then Eddy's voice called out again. "You know, I have to give you major props, Brittle. When I saw you sneaking off with that blonde, I thought you were just getting yourself a little Sammy on the side. But that was way more interesting than what I bargained for," he said chuckling.
Ben stopped and slowly looked up towards the intercom. He narrowed his eyes as Eddy kept on talking. "I mean with how you two stuck together, I never would have guessed Loud would be playing for both teams. But thinking about it, she does have total dyke vibes, doesn't she?"
Kimi balled her fist up. "That piece of-!"
"I'm curious Brittle, are you really trying to be a good friend? Or are you trying to finesse yourself into a three way. I'm honestly thinking you could pull it off. You spit way more games than I give you credit for. You gonna try to run through the rest of the Loud sisters when you're done with those two or…?"
Olley looked over at Ben, who was eerily silent. "Ben… are you okay?" Stupid question. He knew it was the moment it left his mouth. But he didn't know what else to say right now. What else was he supposed to ask him?
"He's fucking dead…"
Ben's face turned to one of sheer fury, and before either Olley or Kimi could react, he made his way out of the room and down the hall. He rushed towards the office as fast as he could, ignoring all the snickers, and stares, and worried glances from the other students he passed by.
He didn't care about what they were muttering right now. He didn't care what they thought about what they'd just heard. Right now all he cared about was finding Eddy and punching his face in.
The look on Luna's face, that look of betrayal… nevermind trying to win her affections, she wouldn't even want to be friends with him anymore. She'd never talk to him again. But even worse than that, publicly humiliating her. Outing her like that to the whole school. He just… he hated Eddy.
He had never really hated anyone in his life. Not even his mother. But he hated Eddy with a passion. And he was going to do his best to make sure when he left school today, it was going to be on a stretcher. "MOVE!" he yelled as he ducked around more of the student and approached the office.
Just as he turned the corner however, a pair of arms reached out and grabbed him from behind, catching him in a full nelson. He was too angry to be confused about who had caught him, or why. He started thrashing about to get free. "Let go!" he demanded. "Let go of me damn it! I'm going to kill him!"
Mr. Gill scowled as he struggled to keep his hold on the boy. "Calm down kid! You're not thinking clearly!" he said tightening his grip. "You're playing right into his hands!"
"I don't care!" Ben yelled. "He's dead! He's fucking dead!"
"Damn it Brittle, don't do this! I'm not gonna let you-!"
The door to the office suddenly opened, and Eddy made his way out. His phone was still in his hand, and he wore a smirk on his face. "Oh, hey there Brittle. You sure did scurry over here pretty fast. Where's Loud?" he asked mockingly.
"AAAAAAGGGHHHHH!"
Ben thrashed about wildly, and Mr. Gill just barely managed to hold him back. "I'm gonna break everything!" Ben yelled. "Arms, legs! Everything! You're never gonna play football again, do you hear me?! I swear to god when I catch you-!"
Eddy laughed and held his hands up. "Whoa, calm down Brittle. What are you so angry about? I was just helping you let the girl you like know how you feel. Not that it wasn't totally fucking obviously already," he said amused.
Mr. Gill narrowed his eyes. He really didn't like this kid. He was tempted to let Ben go just to shut him up, but he knew that's exactly what he wanted… plus he'd probably get in major trouble for it. He opened his mouth to tell Eddy to go back inside and wait for the principal, but then another figure broke from the crowd of students watching the scene.
"AAAAAHHHHH!"
Eddy barely had time to turn his head before Sam's boot connected with his crotch. His eyes went wide, and he let out a squeal as he hunched over to grab himself. The moment he did, Sam raised her knee and hit him in the side of the head, knocking him to the ground. Everyone else watched in shock as she brought her foot back and began kicking away, slamming into his side.
"You son of a bitch!" she yelled angrily. "How could you?!"
Mr. Gill sighed. He sure as hell wasn't going to be able to stop her right now. Not while he was holding Ben back. And nobody else looked eager to stop her either. "Kid, calm down and listen to me," he said looking towards Ben, who was still trying to break free. "Who needs your attention more right now? Him, or Luna?"
Those words actually seemed to break through to him, and his eyes widened. "She just got outed in front of the entire damn school, and you're trying to beat up this chump?" Mr. Gill said. "You need to find her, like asap. I think Sharp has got the beating his ass thing covered for now. Now I'm gonna let you go and-"
Ben managed to shake loose the moment Mr. Gill loosened his grip, and the teacher looked concerned as he glared towards Eddy. He bawled his fist up, but then turned and ran in the other direction. Mr. Gill let out a sigh before he went over to restrain Sam.
Ben kept on rushing towards the entrance of the school to try and find Luna. As much as he wanted to kill Eddy right now, he had to make sure she was okay first. Even if she was furious at him, he just… he had to make sure she got to the others, or her sisters, or anybody who would make sure she was okay.
When he got outside, he saw Lori already outside. She was pacing back and forth, and looking down at her phone. "Lori!" he called approaching her. The blonde looked up towards him, and for a moment he worried how she would react. There was no way she hadn't heard what had gone on inside. "I'm sorry! I know you might be made but Luna-!"
"She literally blew right by me a little while ago," Lori said, a worried look on her face. "I tried calling her, but she isn't picking up her phone. I'm… I'm calling my parents about what happened. Then I'm getting in Vanzilla and looking for her." She knew she was upset, but she really didn't like the idea of Luna being alone right now.
Ben frowned. "I'll get a heartstart! I'll call you when I find her!" he said running towards his brother's truck. He quickly grabbed his bike from the back and then zipped off. He had no idea where Luna might have run off to, but he couldn't just sit here and do nothing.
Ben spent the rest of the day going around and checking every single one of their usual hang out spots. The arcade, their music store, the park, every single place he thought she might go to clear her head or be alone. Then it occurred to him that if she actually wanted to be alone, she wouldn't have bothered going to any of those places…
So he started just looking everywhere. He called, sent texts, just asking her to confirm if she was ago, but got nothing. Apparently she hadn't contacted anybody. Not Olley, or Kimi, or even her family. And it was scaring the crap out of him not knowing where she was and if she was okay.
He kept on searching, even after most of the places around town shut down for the night. He wasn't the only one obviously. Lori, Leni, and her parents had stayed out after sending the younger siblings home. And Bruno and Burce had been driving around to look for her as well.
It was well past midnight by the time Mr. and Mrs. Loud told them to go home for the night, and even then he hadn't wanted to go. "No, not yet. I can still keep looking," he argued. He needed to make sure that she was okay. "This whole thing is my fault. I have to-"
Mrs. Loud cut him right off. "Don't you say that Benjamin," she said sternly. "This is not your fault. None of it is. That boy Eddy is the one to blame here. And I don't want you saying or thinking otherwise, understood?"
"She's right Ben. You haven't done anything wrong," Mr. Loud assured. "Now you kids should all head home and get some rest. We'll keep on looking for her and let you know as soon as we find her."
He wanted to argue that he could still keep going, but Bruno cut him off and then told him that there was no point in him running himself ragged right now. Better to get some rest so he'd be ready to search later in case they didn't find her tonight. He reluctantly agreed, and they made their way back to the cafe.
Their aunt had been waiting for them, a warm cookie and hot cup of cocoa for each of them. Ben appreciated the thought, but honestly wasn't in the mood for sweets right now. "Eddy is a dead man…" Bruno muttered under his breath. "To hell with the plan. First chance we get, we find him and beat him down."
Bruce grunted in agreement, while Ben grit his teeth. Just imagining Eddy's face made him furious. And… horrible. More at himself for letting him pull something like that off yet again. He'd let him hurt Olley. He'd let him humiliate both Sam and Luna. What kind of friend was he?
Not again.
He was never going to let that happen again.
Ben felt a hand on his shoulder, and then looked up to see Bruce. "You should get some sleep," his older brother said. "We'll get up early and start looking again tomorrow." He knew Ben wasn't going to be able to get any of this out of his head, and he needed to assure them that they weren't either.
"Well, I'm by the time we wake up they'll have found her," Bruno said getting up. "But he's right, we do need to get some rest. If she is still missing I'll cover your shift tomorrow and you can go looking again."
Oh man, he had forgotten he was working tomorrow. "Thanks…"
"No problem. Now get some rest little brother."
Bruno patted him on the head as he passed by, while Bruce kept waiting, staring towards Ben. He had a feeling that if he went up before his younger brother that he might sneak back out to look for Luna some more. And Ben would have been lying if he said the thought hadn't crossed his mind.
Eventually Ben got up and headed upstairs to his room. He didn't know how in the world he was supposed to get any sleep tonight. He wouldn't be able to get any of today out of his head. As he approached his room, he heard Brutus whining inside. He sighed, not believing that he'd waited for him this whole time instead of going to the twins room.
"I'm back boy, so you can stop…" Ben's stopped, his eyes widening as he saw Luna sitting on his bed. She was sitting up, one of her hands around her knees, while the other was scratching Brutus, who looked like he was trying to comfort her. "Luna…"
She didn't look at all surprised to see him. "I didn't know where else to go…"
