So I figure I should comment on this….saw the new episode and seems heavily implied that Sasha's parents are divorced. While it's possible that could have happened as a result of Sasha missing, it's implied that Anne knows they aren't together anymore. Making me think her parents were already divorced before they went to Amphibia. Not sure if I should ret-con my story to include that or not, guess we'll see. Again when you write a fanfic as the show is still airing sometimes you take a guess about something and it turns out to be wrong. But figured I'd bring it up as I'm sure many of you are curious.
I think that during this hiatus I'll give you three new one shot stories. One for each month, that way you still have something to look forward too. Hope you enjoy this first one, stay safe out there!
Sasha's Advice
Anne ran out of the gym to get some air, though even as she started taking deep breaths of air into her lungs she didn't feel any calmer. She bent down putting her hands on her knees and tried to make sense of what had just happened, but couldn't.
Luz kissed me, she thought in her head, Luz kissed me…..Why? What does this mean? How long has Luz had a crush on me?...why did it kind of feel good?
Anne didn't know what to do right now, though a part of her thought that maybe she should go find Luz and talk with her about this. Sasha had told her not to, but Sasha also wasn't here. Just as Anne was thinking about going to find Luz she heard a voice call to her.
"Wow I never would have guessed that Boobchuy of all people would be the newest topic of hot gossip," said a nasally voice. Anne turned around and saw a brown haired girl with a nasty smile starring at her.
Ugggh really, she thought, of all people it had to be Jesse Bliss.
"Look Jesse," pleaded Anne, "I really don't want to do this right now."
"But why not Anne?" asked Jesse, "I can see the headline for the gossip blog now! Anne Boonchuy the Breakup Queen! Now we know she plays for the other team! Oh this will be better than I could have possibly hoped! Your reputation will be sooooo ruined before high school even starts!"
"What is wrong with you Jesse?" asked Anne angrily, "why do you get your kicks making other people feel horrible?"
"It's called the food chain Anne," replied Jesse, "you need to know your place on it."
As Anne heard those words all she could feel was a deep sense of despair, she had been bullied before, and hated the feeling, she could already imagine in her head the insults the other kids would throw at her.
"I know exactly what her place on it is, her place is with me," said Sasha coming outside to stand by Anne.
"Sasha," growled Jesse, "are you really going to risk your reputation for Anne? You may be cheer captain, but that doesn't make you untouchable."
"Oh you know what," said Sasha, "I have a way better idea for a new gossip blog, "How far did Jesse Bliss go with Dean Sanchez?"
Jesse didn't answer though her face became bright red, Sasha pulled out her phone and began showing pictures to Jesse.
"Looks to me here like you and Dean were sneaking out of the dance," began Sasha indicating the first picture, then swiping to another, "Oh look at this off into the abandoned school where there are no teachers or lights, how romantic" Sasha again swiped to another picture," and here we are sneaking into an abandoned classroom, just how long were the two of you in there? And what were you doing that whole time?"
"Okay, okay," said Jesse clearly embarrassed, "stop, I won't make a new blog about Anne, just promise me you'll delete those pictures."
"Mmmm I think I'll hold onto them for insurance," said Sasha smugly, "just to make sure you hold up your end of the bargain. I'm on good terms with Ms. Bryant now, so you'd better watch your step Jesse!"
With that Jesse Bliss walked back into the gym in a huff, angry at having been beaten. Sasha turned her attention to Anne.
"Hey, you okay?" she asked, coming up to Anne and tenderly putting her arm around her.
"No I'm not," yelled Anne, taking Sasha's arm off her and moving away to stand by herself. Sasha was hurt by the gesture but tried not to show it in her face.
"Sorry," said Anne after a few seconds, "I didn't mean to lash out Sasha, I just….I really don't know what's going on right now."
Sasha came back up next to Anne, "hey it's fine I'm here for you Anne. You know you can tell me anything."
Anne looked into Sasha's face before looking away. She once again left Sasha's side to stand by herself. She stayed silent for about a minute before looking around and making sure no one else was listening in. Finally she spoke,
"Sasha…..a part of me enjoyed Luz's kiss…..and I don't know what that means."
Anne didn't see it but Sasha's face lit up upon hearing that, though she tried to play it cool.
"Hey….well….it might mean nothing," began Sasha, "but I think I need to hear more than that to know for sure."
"I don't know anymore than that!" said Anne in frustration, "it all happened so fast! And now the whole school saw and now…..I'm going to get made fun of." As Anne said this tears began streaming down her face.
"Hey, hey you aren't going to get made fun," said Sasha coming up to her.
"Didn't you just say my reputation could be ruined if it came out I was a lesbian?" asked Anne.
"I misspoke," clarified Sasha, "it would only be bad depending on WHO you would be dating, and well….as much as I hate to say it, Luz isn't exactly top tier dating pool."
"What?! How can you say that Sasha?" said Anne indignantly, "Luz is our friend."
"Are you sure about that Anne?" asked Sasha.
"Huh? What do you mean?" asked Anne confused.
"I mean she did just kiss you on the dance floor, how do you know that all this time Luz hasn't had ulterior motives for being your friend?" asked Sasha
"Wait, are you saying she planned this?" asked Anne.
"I mean I don't know if she did," said Sasha, "but it is something we should consider. What if all this time Luz was pretending to be your friend, but all she wanted was a chance to get you alone and then steal a kiss from you. I'm not saying that's the case, I'm just asking questions…."
Anne didn't reply as she considered what Sasha had said.
"Hey it's okay though, you don't need to worry about it," said Sasha coming up to Anne and putting her arm around her, "you still have me, and you still have Marcy, we really do make a great team! We don't need Luz. We should just go back to being a trio again."
"I….I….mean I guess what you're saying makes sense," began Anne, "but I don't know. I still like Luz, I don't know if we should cut her off just because of this. It just doesn't feel right."
"You aren't still thinking of talking to her right now are you?" asked Sasha.
"I mean…..shouldn't I?" asked Anne, "I feel I have to say something, I shouldn't leave it like this."
Sasha took Anne's hands into her own and looked her in the face, "Anne, listen to me you don't want to be associated with Luz right now. Jesse may not start a gossip blog about tonight, but you know she's still going to try and spread rumors about you through word of mouth. If you don't hang out with Luz anymore then I can do my best to stamp out those rumors and make sure your reputation doesn't suffer."
Anne didn't respond, she stopped looking in Sasha's face and hung her head, not sure what to say.
"Anne," began Sasha slowly, squeezing her hands and moving her face closer to Anne's, "you don't want to get made fun of right?"
"No! Of course not!" said Anne nervously.
"Then listen to me," said Sasha softly, she brought one of her hands up to Anne's face and began to tenderly stroke her face, "I promise I'll do all I can to prevent any rumors of you getting spread, but for now you have to stay away from Luz. If she calls you over the weekend don't talk to her. Trust me, I'm trying to help you. You know I'll always be here to protect you right?"
Anne looked into Sasha's eyes, she realized just how close her face was to Sasha's, it made her feel weirdly uncomfortable and she decided to back away a bit, "yeah you're right, I mean you've always been there for me. Thanks for the advice Sasha."
At that moment Anne got an alert on her phone, Anne checked it, "Oh Mom's texting me, says she's on her way to pick me up, the dance is almost over. I should probably go wait for her."
"Yeah," began Sasha, but as Anne turned to leave, Sasha called to her, "hey uh Anne wait!"
"Huh what's up?" asked Anne.
"So listen….." began Sasha nervously, "I know you said you were a bit confused, and you weren't sure how to feel about Luz's kiss right?"
"Yeah," replied Anne.
Sasha began to fidget nervously as she spoke, "so uh just want to put it out there, maybe…..to help you better understand how you feel…you need to kiss another girl…..just to see if you like it."
Anne didn't' reply to that, so Sasha quickly continued speaking.
"Before you go…you and I…..could…..kiss," began Sasha slowly before quickly speaking fast, "just to help you better understand your feelings, and see if you like it."
Anne was taken aback by Sasha's offer, for a second she visibly blushed, but in her mind knew that this wasn't a good idea, especially right now.
"Ummm listen Sash," began Anne, "this isn't the right time for that. I'll call you over the weekend. Sorry I need to go."
Anne quickly ran back into the gym and towards the front looking for her mom, though in her mind she wondered why Sasha had made that offer. Something about it seemed off.
Why did Sasha offer that? thought Anne, is she…..no…..she's had so many guys after her…..there's no way….
"Forget the sick room, forget school, lets get out of here and celebrate your birthday in style," said Sasha
"Oooff skip school, I don't know Sash," said Anne clearly unsure about this.
"Anne this is your 13th birthday you only get one of these, besides I can tell from your mood your still bummed about what happened at the dance. Skipping is not just about celebrating your birthday, but also about cheering you up. I want to help you forget about Luz, I want to help you be your normal self again."
"You're right I am still bummed about that, and while a part of me doesn't want to talk to Luz, I also kind of wish she's at least apologize to me about it," said Anne, "honestly what bothers me more is the fact that she won't talk to me about it. Though another part of me doesn't even really want to ever talk to her again."
"You deserve an apology for sure," said Sasha, "but in the meantime let's get out of here and go party!"
"Alright, I gotta be home by 6pm though, my parents are throwing me a big party and they really want me to be there," said Anne.
"Right, right you got it," said Sasha dismissively, "now lets get this thing started!"
As Anne and Sasha biked away from school she did begin to enjoy herself. It was her birthday after all, and it felt great to spend some time with Sasha. There first stop was an arcade where the two rocked out on "Super Dance Fun Time Fusion." Anne enjoyed the dancing but wasn't a fan of Sasha trying to steal money from the machine. Next Sasha took her to a deserted alley to work on her "art." After that Sasha took Anne to the hill they had talked about before, at first she had thought about using Anne's bike to zoom down it like she had discussed previously, but changed her mind when she saw and abandoned shopping cart nearby.
"This will work so much better Anne, what do you say we give it a try? I'll show you how to really have fun!" exclaimed Sasha.
"Yeah okay," said Anne, not entirely convinced. With that she climbed into the cart and let Sasha get a running start as she pushed in down the hill before jumping in herself. The girls almost crashed into several pedestrians, but managed to make it down the hill laughing and enjoying themselves.
With all that out of the way the two decided to head to a coffee shop to relax a little. As they walked in they didn't immediately order anything. Sasha motioned towards a table near the back and the two sat down there.
"Did you want to get something Sash?" asked Anne.
"Eh, not right away, no need to rush, I just wanted to talk to you for a bit," said Sasha.
"Oh, well thanks," answered Anne, "what did you want to talk about?"
"I just wanted to know how you're feeling," said Sasha.
"Well this day has been a little touch and go," began Anne thinking about their escapades, "but overall I had fun. Thanks for taking me out for my birthday Sash! You know I feel a lot better than I've been feeling lately."
Sasha smiled at Anne's response, "that's amazing! Look I wasn't sure if I should bring it up or not, but how are you feeling about Luz?"
Anne paused as she considered this before responding, "I still don't know, I'm sorry If that's sounds like a cop-out, but even after all this time I'm still not sure what to think about Luz. Part of me wants to still talk to her and try and figure out what happened that night, the other part of me doesn't want to have anything to do with her anymore."
Sasha's face perked up upon hearing that last bit, "well Anne, if you ask me I think the next time you should see her you should just tell her that you don't want to be friends anymore."
"I mean, that seems kind of harsh don't you think?" replied Anne.
"Listen Anne," began Sasha, "you, Marcy and I have been friends for a long time now. Heck we met when we were still in kindergarten, How many sleepovers have the three of us had together?"
"Psssh, I have no idea, but I know it's a lot!" said Anne.
"Exactly my point!" said Sasha, "you, me Marcy we're already a great team! We work well off each other, we are and always will be best friends! We don't need Luz in our group, maybe she seemed nice when we met her, but after what happened I just don't want to see you get hurt Anne." As she said this Sasha took hold of Anne's hand and began to gently stroke it with her thumb.
Anne looked down at her hand then back up in Sasha's face, she didn't respond immediately so Sasha continued.
"Trust me this is for the best," said Sasha, "this way you don't have to worry about any awkward feelings you have about Luz. You can get a fresh start, the three of us will be a trio again. Everything will go back to the way it was."
Anne looked hard into Sasha's smiling face, everything she was saying made sense, though there was still a small part of Anne that didn't want to cut Luz off. But hearing Sasha say how things could go back to normal was what appealed to Anne the most. Anne didn't want to have to face the possibility that she actually liked Luz, and the idea that if Anne ended her friendship with Luz that she wouldn't have to think about her. She also wouldn't have to deal with any awkward feelings she had about her.
"You really think everything will go back to normal?" asked Anne hopefully.
"I promise it will Anne," answered Sasha as she continued to gently stroke Anne's hand, "don't worry about being made fun of Anne, I'm here for you. I will always be there to protect you. You know you can count on me right?"
"Yeah…..you're right," said Anne finally, "you always have been there Sasha, you've never steered me wrong before. This is for the best…..next time I see Luz I'll tell her I don't want to be friends with her. Thanks for the advice Sash!"
Sasha smiled in triumph at hearing Anne say this.
"Okay that was a little emotional, I feel ready for some sugary coffee drinks, how about you?" asked Anne.
"For sure!" said Sasha, "what do you want?"
"Oooo I want the unicorn drink!" said Anne, "I want to know what a unicorn tastes like!"
"Good choice," said Sasha getting up to go order the drinks, "don't worry I've got this, it's your birthday my treat!"
"Ahh that's sweet of you Sasha," said Anne smiling at her. As Sasha went to go stand in line she let out a sight of relief.
That plan worked out perfectly, said a voice in her head.
I know, thought Sasha, Anne listened to my advice, now I don't have to worry about Luz stealing her away from me.
You are a genius! said the voice.
Well duh, I already knew that, said Sasha.
You could go far in my kingdom, said the voice, suddenly sounding different, I could use someone with a sharp, ruthless mind like yours.
What?! said Sasha in surprise suddenly snapping back to reality. Sasha looked around the coffee shop, but there was no one else there. For a split second the voice in her head sounded different. But no it wasn't like someone was speaking to her in her head. Sasha was simply talking to herself, she was just speaking to her inner voice.
I must have been imagining things, thought Sasha, for a second I thought….no I was just talking to myself, that's all that was…..
