Stepping back into the Twilight, Link immediately turned back into the scared beast, while the neo green lines of Samus' Twilight Suit glowed from the atmosphere. Midna on the other hand was pretty much not effected at all, other than being fascinated at the sight of Twilight again. She felt amazing - so amazing that she wanted to spice things up a bit...

"My companions, I was just thinking..." spoke the Twilight Princess.

The wolf and the space warrior looked at her in curiosity.

"Would you both like to play a game?" asked Midna with some scandal in her voice.

Both Link and Samus looked at each other, then the blue eyed beast turned back to Midna.

"A game? Here? Now? I don't know, what kind of game do you have in mind?" retorted Wolf Link.

Midna curled her lips to a mischievous grin.

"Why don't we see how many enemies that we can defeat by ourselves? The rules are simply: The combatant with the most defeated enemies before the light is restored to this area wins. Collecting a tear of light is worth multiple points. The runner ups have to give the winner a reward."

The wolf shook his head.

"Ehhh...I think it's best that we just approach this with a serious mentality."

But Midna put on a pouty face,

"Aww come on! This is the only time that we can do this! It'd be too easy if all three of us work together. I'm not saying it has to be like this every time, but before our enemies start becoming a real problem, I felt that we can enjoy ourselves a bit. It's also a good way for us to hone in our individual skills. This will force us on our toes." argued the monarch.

"True...but what if something happens to us? If we aren't watching each other's backs then how are we going to know if we are okay or not?" argued Link.

Midna smiled brightly like it was her cue.

"That's why you have me! As long as we are in the Twilight, I can sense both of your strong presences. If one of us starts becoming overwhelmed, I promise that we'll stop playing and play it safe. Does that sound okay now?"

Sensing that she wasn't trying to take no for an answer, the blue eyed beast turned to the space warrior for support.

"Samus?" Link asked.

The woman in the Twilight Suit took a deep breath.

"I can't believe I'm saying this, but I prefer that we try out this game of hers." finally responded the blonde woman.

Midna gasped with contentment while Wolf Link mouth fell open.

"YES! Ohhhhh see this is why I like you Samus! You're more fun than you come off as!" Midna said as she hugged the Twilight Warrior, catching Samus by surprised a bit.

"...But Samus..." managed Link.

Samus turned to Link.

"Don't get me wrong, Link, we are all still a team, but this is the best way that we can quickly get this section complete. It's also a good time for me to try out this new Twilight Suit, and to show you what my former title was built on. There's no reason for us to be so worked up so early. I saw you defeat a swarm of shadow beasts single handedly with one attack. If anything goes wrong, Midna can help us like she said," turning back to her who was still hugging her a bit.

Wolf Link continued to glare at her with concern, so Samus reconstructed her words.

"We'll be okay. Trust me. Doing this will build more confidence with each when we actually work as one." replied his partner.

Looking back and forth at the beautiful monarch who was grinning and Samus' neo visored, he sighed.

"Very well, but just in case - Midna, can you give her one of my fairies that I've caught so it can instantly heal her if a situation becomes dire?"

Midna nodded her head.

"Absolutely! Although I still don't think it's needed, but whatever eases your worries for the game." Midna said as she spawn one of Link's bottles for Samus to store in her Twilight Suit.

"Thank you Link. I think an energy tank may be nearby, as well as some of my basic upgrades. I got a good feeling about this." comment the former bounty hunter.

Looking back and forth at her two partners, Midna grinned wildly,

"Well, with that being said, ready or not, let's goooo!" cheered Midna as she flew like a missile into the forest.

With one last glance at each other, Samus and Wolf Link bolted in the forest, trying to defeat as many enemies as they can before they restore the light. A warm feeling formed in Link's gut as he became more excited with every step.

.

.

.

It truly felt like old times for Link. The old scenery was nostalgic. Samus went on ahead, being that she was slightly faster than him. Her mind was also occupied about finding her basic upgrades. The wolf could only imagine how the Twilight Princess was doing - now that she was no longer an imp, he felt that she'd probably win this game easily. Even still, Link wasn't gonna sit back and be a loser. That's not the mentality that he wants to have. If I'm going to play, then I'll focus on getting the light back to this part of Hyrule! thought the scared beast as he tore through the flesh of the light beetles.

On Samus' side, she walked through the waterfall and found an energy tank (*Insert Item Obtained Sound Effect Here*). Twilight Space Pirates occupied the spring once she got out. Before she blasted them, The Golden Wolf took them out at light speed before they realized what hit them.

"You're here!" Samus proclaimed.

The Golden Wolf simply smiled before spawning certain items for Samus.

"I believe that these items where what you were looking for..."

Samus expression widened as he spawned in to the spring. The items were: The Missile Launcher, a few Missile Expansions, The Morph Ball, another Energy Tank, Charge Beam, and the Morph Ball Bombs.

"T-Thank you so much, Sir!" Samus proclaimed.

The Golden Wolf nodded,

"I'm going to see how my son and the ruler of Twilight are doing. In the mean time keep working hard, Samus." he said before teleporting away from the Spring.

.

.

.

Wolf Link galloped past the spring as she saw Samus battling the Pirates. He hesitated, but saw that she was dominating them, so he continued on the game and mission.

The crimson haired monarch was having the time of her life. Deep in the forest of Faron Woods, Midna was tearing up the enemies without even laying a finger on them. In her true form, it was a breeze. She pointed and zapped them away with ancient magic. As she hovered over the Faron Swamp, she came across a floating missile launcher contained in an amber glass. That looks like something for Samus, but I'll let the space warrior obtain it herself! I have a game to win! thought Midna as she zoomed away to the next area.

Going back to Link, he was only able to find the light beetles, since Midna and Samus quickly racked up the normal enemies. One light beetle remained that was in the heart of the Forest, near the Temple. Wolf Link was planning on making his way there until a voice called out to him.

"After everything that you've been through, why are you still helping her? She left us! We were so lost without her...and now she wants us only when it's convenient for her?! She's just using us all over again! That's why she broke the mirror - to get rid of you...to get rid of us! I've been telling you this for two years now, and you've never acknowledged me!" the voice said in his psyche.

Wolf Link tried shaking it off, these...aren't my thoughts, claimed the swordsman.

"You still deny me! Naive fool! So be it! Sooner or later, you're going to bring yourself down, and I won't stick around until you do!" responded the voice as it disappeared from Link's psyche.

Then as swift as it was, the atmosphere turned into blinding light as everything went white...

.

.

.

In the next moment, Link was standing at the back entrance of the Faron's Swamp. He looked around and realized that the light was restored back to normal - the game was over.

Damn it! I barely even killed any enemies! I'll be in last place for sure...! cursed Link to himself as he hurried back to the Faron Spring to randevu with his partners.

.

.

.

Once he got back to the Spring, Midna was talking to Samus, who was back in her Twilight Zero Suit, discussing their experiences. Eventually they noticed the Hero of Twilight.

"There he is!" called out the monarch as the swordsman finally made his way huffing and puffing.

"You know...I think that I saw The Hero of Time again, Link. You just missed him" said Midna.

Link shook his head.

"We actually talked not too long ago. I hope that you and him caught up."

Midna shook his head as well.

"There was no time too. It was a small little reunion and then back to business. Well now, shall we get on with the results? I expect that you kept your defeated enemies in your head, correct?"

Samus nodded. The young man groaned but nodded too.

"Okay then! Samus, what were your results?" turning to her companion.

"I defeated 40 Space Pirates, 30 Bokoblins, 5 Shadow Beasts, and 0 Light Beetles," reported Samus.

"Wow." said Link and Midna simultaneously.

Midna giggle,

"I shouldn't be surprised! You've been fighting monsters longer than me and Link combined!" added the monarch.

Samus smiled softly and nodded. It was a compliment, but it felt like she was somewhat putting her in a different category than her and Link, which made her feel a bit distant.

"As for yours truly, I defeated 20 Space Pirates, 10 Bokoblins, 5 Shadow Beasts, and 5 Light Spirits," flexing her hair in the process.

"That's great! You don't even have a scratch on you." said Samus as she examined Midna's body.

"Of course! I'm a princess. Monsters could never touch someone like me! Link knows that, as I made him do the heavy lifting while I directed him where to go." she stated grinning widely.

Then the two women looked at Link.

"Well? What was your score, hero?" asked Midna.

The brunette just shook his head.

"I lost, I'll just say that." replied Link putting his head down and waving his hand as a gesture to disregard the question.

Midna then rolled her eyes.

"Please, just tell us the results. We can't determine a winner without all of the details."

Link sighed,

"Okay fine...I defeated...0 Space Pirates, 0 Bokoblins, 0 Shadow Beasts, and defeated 15 light beetles."

Midna's eyes widened while Samus looked down at his feet before thinking of something to cheer him up.

"It's okay Link! I'm sure that you'll get another chance next time, right Midna?" she proclaimed looking back at the monarch.

Midna turned to Samus, and frowned. After a moment, she turned back to Link.

"I thought that I had the edge..." murmured Midna.

"Say again?" Samus requested.

Then Midna elaborated, "I didn't mention this specifically, but the bonus points for each light beetle was worth an octuple multiplier, or eight points per light beetles."

Samus and Link took a moment to put the math together.

"So...my total score is still 75 points, since I didn't defeat any of them." stated Samus.

"...and my total score, given the light beetles that I defeated, puts me at 75 points as well." stated Midna.

Link blankly looked at both of them.

"So that means..." he said putting it together.

"You're total score, Link, for defeated 15 light beetles, is 120 points." stated Midna as she crossed her arms and had a sly grin on her face.

Samus then smiled warmly.

"Wow! Congrats Link! You won!" stated the blonde woman.

Slowly, Link mouth curled to a smile, followed by fist pumping the air in contentment.

"Awesome!" he shouted.

"Hmm, I guess that's what you get for playing objective." Midna said to herself out loud.

"I can't blame him, I was more focus on collecting my upgrades in the Twilight." stated Samus observing the neo green at the ends of her zero suit.

"I hate losing, but a deal's a deal. For your prize, me and Samus have to think of a reward for you." she proclaimed curling her hair.

Link smirked,

"Here's an idea, how about sticking around together for the rest of the journey." he remarked sarcastically.

That's when Midna got an alluring idea...

"Yeah, I'd like that..." Midna whispered to herself enticingly.

"Huh?" responded the swordsman, while Samus stared at Midna confused as well.

Midna walked to Link, smiling. Then she proceeded to place her hands on his cheeks, cuffing them. The swordsman's heart skipped a beat. She was so close to Link that he could smell her sweet breath and scent.

"How about it? It's been a long day, the sun is setting, why we don't we all spend the night together back at your place?" she suggested.

Samus' face turned crimson, is she serious?

Some sweat formed on Link's forehead as he tried to gather an appropriate answer. Her red eyes were gazing into his soul.

"Midna...I think that we should focus on checking out the temple for clues of what our enemies are up to. Besides, you've never been a person to interact with Hylians."

She tilted her head and lower her voice and eyelids, "Yes...but I can work around that...but why not we have some more fun? I'd love to spend the night with my hero as a reward for his hard work..." she purred into his face.

The more he stared at her the harder it was to think straight. He galped silently as he tried to think of another response. That's when Midna turned to the Space Warrior and smiled at her.

"Of course, Samus, you're welcome to join us. It'd could count as our reward to him for winning the event." she added.

"I...well..." uttered the blonde bounty hunter.

Looking back at Link and then at Samus, Midna burst into a laughter. She covered her mouth with a hand as she retracted from Link. The two warriors just looked at each other with embarrassment. After a few moments, the monarch calmed down.

"Okay, okay, you can relax now. I was only teasing you. I just wanted to see how you would react."

Link's face twitch, not out of irritation, but more out of relief. The Twilight Princess wasn't done yet

"Still..."

...Then Midna leaned in to Link and firmly pressed her royal lips against Link's cheek. She retracted them after she pressed down for a good second. Electricity ran down Link's whole body.

"My little reward to you. Great job today." stated the monarch as she patted his cheeks a bit.

Then she walked back a bit and turned to her other companion.

"So Samus...what's your gift for our hero here?"

"Uhh..." Samus managed to say, completely feeling out of place. Midna's gift to Link clouded her thinking process.

"Why don't we discuss this after tonight?! There's no rush, am I right?" asked Link to Midna in order to remove the sense of urgency from the situation.

"Hmmph...whatever floats your boats." Midna said putting her hands up.

"Let's get going." she said walking away from them and to the direction of the Forest Temple.

Link exchanged looks with Samus. Their eyes met as they stare at each other for a moment.

"Any day now you too!" Midna said teasing them but with some slight inpatients. She didn't even look back to tell that they weren't following her.

After another moment passed, Samu spoke out.

"We should get going, Link..." Samus said as she walked towards Midna.

Link looked on as he golden hair breezed in the cool autumn weather.

Unbeknownst to Samus and Link, Midna could feel the rising magnetism that was forming between the two. It reminded her of her own connection when she first met Link.

Before the swordsman continued on, Link still felt like something was missing. He looked down and was puzzled.

"Uhh...Midna? You wouldn't happen to be messing with my shadow, would you?" he said with a slight concern in his voice.

Midna turned around and approached Link slightly, she looked at the ground beneath him and confirmed that his shadow was missing - it was completely gone.

"Strange, perhaps being in the Twilight messed with light reflecting off of your body. Who knows...maybe your becoming more of a Twili than you think." stated the princess.

"Yeah..." he said as he felt like he was punched in the gut.

Finally, the trio made their way to the Forest Temple.

Back in the Hyrule's Tower, Ganondorf set his plans into motion.

"It's time that I have my way with you...Princess..." The Dark Lord proclaimed.
