With lessons beginning, a quiet crept over the academy's grounds. The first room Louis passed contained a huddled group, gathered around a Weavile that stood proudly upon the tutor's desk.
It leapt from the desk, and with a speed unexpected to anyone, dashed around the room, retrieving items and trinkets from the amazed students.
"Whoa!" muttered Louis. "That Pokémon is fast!"
– "But I'm faster."
A new voice, higher in pitch met Louis' ears from somewhere near his feet.
As he looked down, the boy saw a small, bunny-shaped Pokémon with white fur and orange and yellow markings on its ears, toes, and neck. It also had a yellow band across its nose.
It hopped on the spot, excitedly, almost as if awaiting a challenge from the boy.
An eyebrow raised in interest on the new student.
'This might be a quicker way to class,' he thought.
"I'm pretty fast too..." the boy said to the small, furry Pokémon.
"...how about a race to Block Three?"
The Scorbunny looked over its shoulder in what Louis presumed was the classroom's direction.
Its gaze snapped back to Louis.
"You're on!" it said.
The boy checked any loose items in his pockets and readied himself to a sprinting set stance.
The Scorbunny began counting down.
"Three… two...On-"
The tiny beast left before finishing the last number.
"Hey!" yelled Louis, now unleashing the power to his thighs, as he attempted to catch the cheaty little critter.
Several students appeared at nearby classroom windows, drawn to the commotion outside.
With the Scorbunny now well out of view, the students only saw Louis, shouting and running.
Some quizzically looked at each other, before returning to their seats.
Louis believed he was catching up to the little Pokémon. Up ahead, the boy spotted a building that had 'Block 3' embedded in brickwork.
"I'm gonna win!" cheered Louis, as he got closer.
"No you're not!" called Scorbunny.
Then, the cheeky Pokémon did something that Louis would never forget.
As the Scorbunny rapidly approached the designated finish line, it turned to face Louis.
It was now running backwards, taunting the boy.
"Oh, Boo!" jeered Louis. "You little showoff."
More faces appeared, at different windows.
As quickly as it began, the race came to an end. The Pokémon slapped the wall of Block Three and jumped in victory.
"I did it!"
"Aww, dangit!" groaned Louis. "I lost."
"That was fun!" the Scorbunny announced. "See you around, kid."
The little Pokémon dashed away leaving fiery footprints in its wake.
"Hey, wait!" called Louis.
Unfortunately, Scorbunny didn't hear him and ran out of sight.
'Who was that Pokémon?' he thought.
Worn out, Louis opened the door to Block Three. He turned his head side to side, looking for his classroom.
The boy remembered the admin teacher's words and saw that the classroom he was looking for was right next to him.
Above the door to the classroom, a sign that read '31A' appeared.
"Bingo," he said.
A sea of eyes turned to him as he opened the classroom door.
"Oh...uh..." he stuttered.
A woman behind a desk spoke.
"Ah! You must be Louie? Louie Serrano?"
Some whispering began at this.
"Actually, ...it's Louis," corrected Louis.
The teacher, Ms Flora, reread her roll-call and looked at Louis' name again, noticing the pronunciation in brackets.
"Oh, so it is," she replied. "Very sorry about that."
"Would you like to introduce yourself to the class?" offered Ms. Flora.
"Uh...sure," replied Louis.
Louis walked in front of the whiteboard and gazed at the rows of people in attendance today.
"Hey everyone, I'm Louis Serrano," he began. "I live in Flash Town, which is located in the Johto Region."
The boy bowed.
"Nice to meet all of you," he finished.
"Splendid. Please, Louis, take a seat. Today we are discussing..." the teacher paused, awaiting an answer from the class.
"Kinship," responded a male student near the back of the class.
"That's right..." responded Ms Flora.
"...thank you, Simon."
WHAT?! That jerk Simon is in Louis' class?! Oh boy...
