'Simon?' thought Louis.

'You mean the jerk that knocked Suzuki to the ground?'

Just then, the classroom door opened again. This time, it was Suzuki walking in.

"Sorry I'm late, Ms. Flora," he apologised. "I got sidetracked on the way here."

Suzuki walked to his seat, noticing Louis along the way.

"What a coincidence," he whispered.

For a while, the lesson continued. The teacher produced numerous documents and displays highlighting the importance of kinship between trainer and Pokémon.

A question was posed near the front of the class.

"Miss? How did the first trainer realise the value of kinship?"

Simon sniggered at the rookie question, as Suzuki shot him a grimace.

"That, Evelyn, is a very good question" responded Ms. Flora, who also looked in Simon's direction.

"Most trainers are naturally 'good' people," she continued to look at Simon.

"...and some...still have a lot of learning to do."

Her gaze returned to Evelyn's.

"Kinship should come naturally to a good-hearted trainer," she finished.

'Come naturally, huh?' thought Louis.

The teacher glanced at Louis, furiously taking notes.

"Louis, may I ask, have you selected your Pokémon yet?" she asked.

The boy stopped writing and looked up at his teacher.

"My what?" he questioned.

Ms. Flora giggled.

"I'll take that as a no," she responded.

The teacher checked her watch and spoke to the room.

"Class, retrieve your studies folder, and produce a three hundred word paper on Kinship value," she directed.

"Louis, follow me."

As they left, Ms Flora stopped momentarily to make sure both Suzuki and Simon had begun the task.

Ms. Flora walked at the wind's pace through the Block.

Both Louis and Ms. Flora stepped outside Block Three. The boy followed from behind her teacher.

"Um...where are we going?" he asked.

"To the Pokémon Lab," answered Ms. Flora. "That's where you'll select your Pokémon team."

Louis stopped in place. His teacher glanced above her shoulder and spun around to the boy.

"What's wrong?" she inquired.

"I...I get to choose my own Pokémon?" questioned Louis.

"Of course," the teacher answered. "Every student here gets to have their own team of Pokémon."

"It's our way of testing the kinship between humans and Pokémon," she continued.

Louis stared at Ms. Flora, amazed at the opportunity.

"That's...actually really clever," he spoke.

Soon, the pair found their way to the academy's Pokémon Lab.

The exterior was fitted with white tiles, shiny windows, a red entranceway, and a gold roof. Each side of the roof consisted of its own set of solar panels.

Above the doorway depicted the image of a Pokéball.

The boy whistled in amazement.

The doors open. Inside was an extremely high-tech display of images around the room.

"Wow!" gasped Louis.

The boy gazed at the equipment, mesmerised by how advanced this technology was.

"Louis," called Ms. Flora. "This way."

"Oh, sorry!" the boy replied.

Ms. Flora directed Louis to a nearby room. A professor came over and pressed a green button near the door.

The doors to the room opened to reveal a dark room. Louis looked on, confused.

"Um..." he paused.

"Once you go inside, the lights will come on," said the professor.

The boy took his first steps into the dark void. The doors behind him closed, encasing the boy in darkness.

Then, the lights switched on, and what Louis saw absolutely shocked him.

Inside the room was a large display of Pokéballs. The rows and rows of these objects lined the walls.

Louis looked in all directions, not believing what he was seeing.

"T-this is crazy!" he shrieked. "How can there be this many Pokéballs?!"

Louis turned around and knocked onto the door. Ms. Flora appeared in the portal.

"Yes?" she said.

"Um...how many do I get to choose?" asked Louis.

"That's up to you," answered Ms. Flora. "Some trainers choose at least one to three Pokémon, while others pick four to six."

"Whoa!" exclaimed Louis.

Louis trotted over to the large display of Pokéballs before him. Having to choose how many of these objects to choose was hard.

"Ok, let's see..." he pondered. "I'll take..."

Louis grabbed a nearby Pokéball to his left.

"...this," he said.

He sidestepped to another set of Pokéballs. The boy picked up the first one that he focused on.

"Maybe...this one, too," he muttered.

Louis pondered for a moment before picking up the Pokémon that was right beside the one he chose before.

"Eh, why not?" he said.

Now, with three Pokéballs in his grasp, Louis wondered if he should have selected more, or to stick with his choices.

Conflicting thoughts invaded his mind. Eventually, one thought overpowered the other.

"Oh, what the heck," he said.

Louis raced over to more sets of Pokéballs. He rapidly scoured each one and selected three more Pokéballs in rapid succession.

"Now I'll take this...this...and this," he finished.

The boy walked out of the room. Ms. Flora and the professor saw that Louis had six Pokéballs in his grasp.

"Ah, the full six," said the professor. "Confident, are we?"

Ooooh, this is going to be so cool.
