The morning sun rose over the horizon. Its bright light flowed over the landscape, bathing it in a deep, comforting hue. The sun's light glowed on the red curtains in Louis' room. The ever-brightening glow was enough to awake the boy from his slumber. He sat up, yawned, and rubbed his eyes.

"What a night," he said.

Then, an important thought crossed his mind.

His family.

"Oh!" he shrieked. "I'll need to try and contact them."

As he stood up, he spotted a desk-mounted video phone sitting on the desk.

'This'll work,' he thought.

He approached the desk, pulled out the chair and sat down.

Louis then pressed a green button on the device, turning it on. He picked up the receiver and dialled the number for his home.

"I hope they're not asleep," he said.

A series of rings stirred the Serrano family home before an occupant eventually picked up their receiver.

"Hello?" said Janet.

The screen lit up and displayed a recently woken-up Louis on the monitor.

"Hey Mom," greeted Louis. "It's me."

"Oh! Louis!" cried Janet, surprised.

"I didn't think your room would have a phone," she continued.

"Yeah, well, I only noticed it just now, so I thought I'd call," explained Louis.

Then, footsteps were heard from behind Janet.

"Who're you talking to, sweetie?" asked Miguel.

Janet turned around to her husband.

"It's Louis," answered Janet.

Then, Miguel fast walked over to the video phone and saw Louis displayed on the screen.

"Oh, hey kiddo," greeted Miguel.

"Hi Dad," replied Louis.

"How's the academy?" the father questioned.

"This place is incredible!" smiled Louis. "Everything at this place looks so...futuristic."

"Really?" said Janet. "Sounds nice. Have you made any new friends?"

"Quite a few," answered Louis. "Not just Pokémon, but some people too."

"I met this guy named Suzuki, and his friends Roy and Violet. They're really cool," he continued.

"What about Pokémon?" inquired Miguel.

"I was just about to mention that," the boy replied.

"I've got my own team of Pokémon now," he explained. "I got myself a Cubone, Staravia, Fennekin, Riolu, Torracat and-"

Then, a mysterious sound went off from behind Louis.

"Huh?" he said.

He turned around and saw Froakie bouncing around the room.

"Whoa! Cool room!" it exclaimed.

Louis turned himself back around to the video phone.

"Hehe, aaand Froakie," he finished.

Before he could continue, Froakie leapt onto Louis' head, startling the boy.

"Whoa...WHOA!" shrieked Louis, falling out of his chair.

"Oof!" he groaned.

Louis got up and placed himself in front of the video phone again, with Froakie still latched on to his head.

"Uh...I better go," he said. "Froakie's quite energetic."

"Okay, son," replied Janet. "Be careful over there."

The woman's son nodded.

"I will," farewelled Louis. "Bye, Mom."

Louis hung up the receiver and the video phone turned off. He feels something hollow within him, something only home can fill.

'I really miss those guys,' he thought.

Louis' heart felt empty.
