The first half of the day went by quickly for Louis. After a morning studying and gaining new information, the bell for Lunch rang across the campus. Hungry students again made their way to the cafeteria as others found soft spots to sit outside.
There was one thing that Louis was looking forward to having for lunch. The always familiar scent of curry flowed through the boy's nostrils, making him smile blissfully. He lined up. As he got closer, Louis saw a wide variety of different curries available to eat, some of which Louis hadn't even seen before. Some were sweet, some were hot, some had additions of nuts and herbs from across the vast region.
"Holy moly! That's a lot of curries," said Louis.
In the end, the boy decided to have some basic curry. He'd try one of the outrageous dishes next time.
After getting his curry, Jasmine Tea and some food for the Pokémon, a noise near the door signified Simon's entrance.
A student with a red and white jacket dropped a plate of steamed buns as Simon advanced to the front of a queue, pushing in.
"Ugh, what is with that guy?" groaned Louis.
Believing it wasn't worth getting involved, the boy proceeded to head to the outdoors, the light from the sun warmed the boy up before his feast.
But then, he had a strange feeling that something was heading straight toward him.
His instincts turned out to be true as he glanced up and saw a Murkrow heading straight at the boy on a collision course...no, an attack run. He quickly moved out of the way, nearly dropping his food and drink in the process.
"Hey!" called Louis. "Watch where you're going!"
With that shout, the Murkrow turned around and went straight for the boy again. When the bird Pokémon got close enough, it tried using its beak to take the pendant from the boy's neck.
"Yo!" yelled the boy, slapping the air defensively around him "Whose Pokémon is this?!"
Almost immediately, a voice called in the distance.
"Murkrow! What on earth are you doing?!" it shouted.
Louis stopped running as soon as he saw the Murkrow heading toward its trainer, who began scolding the Pokémon. Relieved, Louis sat down on a soft spot of grass and brought out his Pokémon.
"Sup, everyone," he greeted. "I got some lunch again."
The sounds of footsteps approached the group from behind Louis.
"Uh, Louis?" said Fennekin. "I think we've got company."
Louis turned on the spot. It was only Suzuki, Roy and Violet trotting towards Louis and his group of Pokémon.
"Oh, hey," said Louis.
The trio sat alongside Louis and his Pokémon. Something from before jolted a question out of Louis.
"Did that kid get his lunch back? The one Simon knocked over?"
Violet groaned.
"Simon knocked someone over again?"
"What's with that guy, anyway?" inquired Louis.
The trio hesitated to answer.
"It's the fact that he's one of the top two students at the academy," Roy revealed.
Louis' eyes widened. He couldn't imagine a person like Simon would be one of the top two students.
"Who's the other top student?" he questioned.
"Me," answered Suzuki, pointing at himself.
It was at that moment where Louis' jaw dropped.
"You two are...rivals, then?" he asked.
– "That's how Simon sees it."
"I'm pretty sure you see it like that too, you goof," chuckled Violet.
"I'm not a goof," played along Suzuki. "I'm a more delicate, balanced, and well-mannered individual."
The trio cackled.
"And I'm guessing Simon is arrogant and entitled?" added Louis.
"Well..." replied Violet after ceasing her laughter.
"I'm sure Simon thinks he's just as rightful and..." she laughed again " ...delicate, as our Suzuki, but yeah, he really is just a bit of a jerk."
"Ra! Torra-cat!" said Torracat.
"Torracat said...'Hey! How'd this all start?'" Louis translated.
Louis leaned in toward his Pokémon.
"Don't worry, they know," he whispered.
The air grew silent. Suzuki's facial expressions shifted into a look full of frustration.
"It all started months ago..." Suzuki began.
"We were having our Pokémon training session and were selected to have a sparring match with one another."
Louis and his Pokémon looked at the boy.
"My Jigglypuff and his Luxio battled one another for quite some time," continued Suzuki. "It seemed to be going all well. But then, when Simon commanded the next attack, his Pokémon didn't go after Jigglypuff..."
Suzuki paused.
"It went after me!"
The group's eyes widened. Froakie seemed to be a little angry as well.
"Simon tried to stop it, right?" questioned Louis.
– "No. That's what Simon wanted it to do."
Each member of Louis' team looked on, disgusted.
"It hurt me quite a bit. But, that really did it," explained Suzuki.
"I was so angry. So much so, that I didn't make Jigglypuff attack him in retaliation. ...I went after him myself and we ended up having a full out brawl."
"It was the talk of the academy for a week" interjected Roy. "The great Simon and Suzuki scuffle."
"What happened after?" Louis inquired.
"Naturally, we both got into trouble," responded Suzuki. "Simon got in trouble for having his Pokémon attack a trainer, while my reason was because of physically attacking someone."
Out the corner of his eye, Louis saw Froakie looking very angry.
"Um...you alright, Froakie?" he asked.
Froakie shifted its eyes to the boy, still appearing to be angry.
"No. I'm not," it answered.
"How come?" asked Cubone.
"That's exactly what happened to my old trainer," explained Froakie.
...wait, what?! Froakie witnessed a similar experience?! Oh, dear.
