Chapter 11
After getting back from training, Bakugou stomped back into his apartment, almost slamming the door open. The few hours he had spent down there hadn't helped much with his mood.
He threw his gym bag in the corner, and pulled off the damp clothes as he went into the shower, letting the cold water calm his nerves a bit, he needed to cool down. Every time he closed his eyes he could see them smiling at each other and it pissed him off for some reason.
Bakugou punched the wall in frustration as he leaned his forehead against the cool bricks. Fucking Hell.
The minute he got out of the shower he heard an annoying knocking on his door and he just knew who it was.
"Fucking wait a shitty minute!" He yelled as he grabbed a pair of slacks and a tank top to put on. He ruffled his hair with the towel to quickly dry it, even though it didn't help that much before he opened the door to face his best and most annoying friend, smiling at him like an idiot.
"Bakugou! I thought you were training?" He walked into the apartment and went straight for his refrigerator, searching for food to eat.
"I just got home. Hey! Stop eating my fucking food you freeloader!" He yelled, although Kirishima knew that there was no bite to his bark.
"Awh come on man, you always have the best food, I'll just take some of your leftovers," he snatched a container from the fridge, grabbed a fork, and started to munch on Bakugou's leftovers.
"Tch, fucking typical. Of course, I have the best food, Hairs for Brains, because I actually care about what I eat," Bakugou stomped over to his fridge and took another container for himself as he looked at his friend, eating his food. It was nothing new for his friend to eat his stuff, he regularly came over, just to eat at times. Bakugou had started to make extra portions because of it, although he would never admit to doing so if anyone asked.
"I tell ya Bakugou, if this hero thing doesn't work for you, cooking should be your plan B," Kirishima took another big bite without realising Bakugou's fists closing and the raging stare he was giving his friend.
"I don't fucking need a plan B, you dipshit" he smacked his friend on the head. Having a good friend with a hardening quirk was definitely a good thing for Bakugou's rage.
"Well, you're right about that!" he took his arm around the blond's shoulder reassuringly.
"Pfft, fucking idiot," Bakugou removed Kirishima's arm from his shoulder and took a discreet look out of the window. She wasn't there yet. Damn, how long would that damn date take? Shouldn't they be home by now?
"Hey, what are you looking for out there?" Kirishima had a grin on his face as he was watching his friend looking out the window.
"None of your damn business," Bakugou growled.
"Oh? So it's not a certain someone with a zero gravitation quirk?"
Bakugou went silent, his red piercing eyes merely looked at his friend. He would never admit to him that Uraraka had been all he had been thinking of besides becoming a hero for a long time. That whenever he looked at her bright smile his stomach did flips and whenever that stupid nerd Deku talked with her, his sweat started to come out of his hands as a pure reaction to his anger.
"Come on Bakugou, I might not be at the top of our class when it comes to studies, but I'm not stupid. I know you. I've been watching you for the past few months, and it's so obvious,"
Bakugou could feel the panic in his stomach as he heard his friend.
"You obviously li-"
Bakugou stopped Kirishima's rant by making an explosion towards his face. "You don't know what you're talking about Dipshit."
"Oh please, I know you better than you think I do," he didn't seem to be the least bit bothered by the explosion.
Bakugou clicked his tongue in annoyance as he looked away from his friend. He was not going to blush right here.
"It's not like that," he lied to himself.
"Come on, you cannot be that oblivious! You've been watching her every move! You've been secretly helping her, which is a classic Bakugou move btw. You told me about those thugs you saved her from."
"What, I can't save people now? We're supposed to be future heroes here," Bakugou scoffed as he folded his arms in front of his chest, looking away. He could feel something within him crumble away with every one of Kirishima's words.
"You sat with her for hours, handing your hoodie to keep her warm," Kirishima retorted.
Bakugou opened his mouth to give his friend some other comeback but closed it again when he fell short. It was true, if it had been any other of his classmates, friends, or a random person he would have at the very least woken them up to remind them of how stupid and defenseless their behavior had been.
"You even used your break the other day to search for her phone without anyone noticing," Kirishima shot him a knowing smirk.
Bakugou stood by the kitchen table, gaping while he felt like the floor disappeared from underneath him. He didn't really know how to react and his heart was starting to pump harder in his chest. It was like being smacked in the face with facts and an undeniable truth.
"Fuck …" For once, Bakugou was actually speechless. How could he not have realised this? Now that he thought about it, it had been obvious. He had kind of played off the grumpy feeling he had about Uraraka's date with Midoriya as a reaction to Midoriya playing on his nerves as usual.
"I like her, I really like Uraraka," when he uttered those words out loud he could feel a kick of butterflies in the pit of his stomach and a rush of heat washed over him.
"So, what are you going to do?" Kirishima asked after a while, pulling Bakugou out of his thoughts.
"What do you mean?"
"Well, you kind of have to talk with her and spend time with her if you want something to happen, you cannot just walk around behind the curtains you know." Kirishima went up to the window as well as he peeked out of it next to where Bakugou was.
They could see the big doors to the entrance of the building across from Bakugou's. The building Uraraka lived in.
Bakugou sighed as he looked over at her window and saw the curtains, shielding the apartment. She must have forgotten to open the curtains this morning. She usually does so every morning before leaving the apartment. Not that he had been watching her all the time.
His thoughts came to the times he had asked her about the pull-ups, the times he had asked if it was all because of him. Why the fuck did he confront her about it? What did he expect from it? That she would admit to being attracted to him? He mentally slapped himself, don't be an idiot. Sure he had unconsciously hoped that might have been the case but … She was obviously into the geeky nerd Deku. Everybody knew that. It was so obvious. And yet, there was this tiny grain of hope and lately, it had been growing ever so slightly with their small conversations.
Bakugou growled quietly to himself as he clenched his fists.
"Unless," Kirishima's voice brought him back to reality, "unless you are already talking with her?"
It went silent in the room until Kirishima started to talk again.
"For example, why was she over here the other day?"
"Nothing special."
Kirishima looked at his friend as he was waiting for an elaboration.
Bakugou clicked his tongue in annoyance as he looked away from his friend, "she returned my hoodie I lent her when I found her sleeping outside. And I gave her a fucking frozen pack of vegetables to help with the bruise from the class exercise we had." He almost yelled the last part as he tried to force his blush away, although it didn't seem to work very well and all he wanted to do was to blast his friend's face off when he saw the stupid grin on his face.
"Oh, heh, well, that explains it," Kirishima could hardly contain his smile.
"Are you fucking laughing at me?!" Bakugou fumed.
"Of course not. Uraraka is a great girl." Kirishima said. Though I'm surprised you didn't realise you had feelings for her until now, considering everything.
"Damn right she is," Bakugou almost whispered to himself, although he couldn't help but have a little smile on his lips.
"So, do you have any more food?" Kirishima went over to Bakugou's fridge to look through it and took another container.
"Hey! One of these days you are going to have to pay for the food you take!"
"Yeah, yeah. Maybe later, alright?"
"Sounds like a never to me." Bakugou scoffed.
"Hah, you know me so well," Kirishima chuckled as he took another bite from the container while he almost moaned about how good it tasted.
Shortly after Kirishima and Bakugou had eaten what was left in their containers, they went over to the couch to play some video games. Bakugou was secretly trying not to let it bother him that he couldn't look out of the window all the time. Although he was also relieved to have someone, keep him occupied and take his mind off of things for a little while. Something Kirishima was really good at from time to time.
It took a few games before Kirishima announced that they needed one last game to see who the true winner of today would be. Way too annoyed by the fact that Bakugou kept winning every other game.
"Yeah, and just like usual, in games or in real life, I will fucking win," Bakugou almost smirked, taunting his friend. It was always fun to see him slightly frustrated, his upper body tense, and his tongue that was slightly out of his mouth in concentration.
"It's not fair, I play games so much more often than you do, and you still manage to kick my ass."
"Pft, give me a challenge if you play that often, Dork."
"You're on!"
With a couple of courses and angry button combinations, it didn't take long before Bakugou won the game where he finally laughed in triumph.
"No! Hey! Best out of seven then? I'll beat you this time!"
"You can lose to me next time you come over," Bakugou smirked in a challenging stare and Kirishima nodded in approval before he got up from the couch and headed to the door.
Bakugou made a sigh of relief when he finally was alone again, letting the silence ring in his ears. He sat on the couch, his arms resting on his knees, hands cupped together while he tried his best to relax and not think about the date Midoriya and Uraraka were currently on. He was trying not to imagine them having fun together, seeing their slight blushes on their cheeks as they awkwardly made conversation or how they most likely would be holding hands or worse, maybe a ki-.
Bakugou stood up instantly, pacing around his apartment before he eventually couldn't take it anymore. He shouldn't be interfering. He knew he should keep to himself and that it had nothing to do with him. And yet, before Bakugou knew what he was doing, he went out of his apartment, rushing down the stairs, not bothering to take the elevator this time around.
When Bakugou finally reached the front door of his building, he saw her. She was still in the dress she had changed into earlier. It had been one of the very few times Bakugou had to be in an agreement with Midoriya, she looked really great. Beautiful even.
And there he was, Midoriya, walking next to her, smiling like an idiot.
They stopped by the door as they looked at each other closely and the look on their faces made Bakugou's stomach churn. He saw Midoriya get closer to Uraraka, and he couldn't believe his eyes when he didn't see any distance between them.
His hands clenched together and left the area as fast as he could without making any noise. His chest felt tight and it was like someone had knocked the air out of him and for the first time he now knew why. The bitter feeling of unrequited love, watching her with someone else and he could feel his eyes start to sting.
When he got back into his apartment, he closed the curtains immediately in frustration as he began to get ready for bed. He really needed to get some proper sleep from today and watching those two kiss each other was not something he would like to see at any point in his life. Shit, he was annoyed at Deku. Annoyed that he had the balls to ask Uraraka out before him. Annoyed that Uraraka seemed to really like him and annoyed that Deku seemed to reciprocate her feelings. The little hope he had seen grow the last couple of weeks of her being able to like him just a bit, began to crumble before his eyes. Was this it?
