"Alright! That wraps it up for today everyone! Great job," Mrs. Paulson stated as she clapped her hands. "We'll go over from start to finish and then the big opening is next weekend!"
Cheers chorused through the auditorium.
"Princess!" A familiar pain in my side plopped down on the floor beside me as I tied my shoes. "Great job on that high note. Didn't know you had it in ya."
"Thanks." I was a bit puzzled by that. He rarely compliments me, just pestering me about going out with him.
"No prob. I'll see you tomorrow."
He hopped off the stage and strutted out the door.
What was that?
I shook my head and headed out.
Feeling my phone buzz in my pocket, I unlocked it to see a text from Peter to get home safe.
With a smile, I texted him back and started my trek home.
Practice ran a bit late today as the sun was taken over by the night sky.
Shoving my hands in my pockets, I picked up the pace.
The streets were emptier than usual.
I stopped in my tracks once my eyes landed on an ever-present figure.
She was looking directly at me as she strode by.
Her eyes gleamed blue and I know I wasn't imagining it this time.
"Excuse me, ma'am?" I tried to get her attention, but she kept walking.
Turning around, I tried to catch up to her.
She broke out into a run and turned into an alleyway.
Skidding to a stop, I was met with an empty alleyway and a brick wall.
My brows furrowed in confusion.
Where the hell did she go?
Arriving back home, I noticed an envelope taped on front of the door with my name on it.
I grabbed it and was surprised by the contents.
I see you.
Pictures of me spilled out. Pictures of me in the apartment, walking home from school, taking the bus, and going to Delmar's with Peter.
My eyes widened as I felt my breath hitched in my throat.
Is it HYDRA again? No. It couldn't be.
Sam told me that they went down some time ago.
Cut off one head and two more shall take its place.
Feeling a chill run down my spine, I slowly looked around the empty hallway.
No one was out here except me.
Cole and Phoebe weren't home so I went to my next best option.
Knocking on their door with a shaky fist, I waited for someone to answer.
I tapped my foot anxiously until May opened the door with a bright smile.
"Hey Ophelia! Are you here to see Peter?"
"Yes. Is he home?"
She nodded and called for him. He came bounding the corner with a smile on his face.
"I'll leave you guys to it."
As soon as she walked off, Peter leaned against the doorway. His smile dimmed as he took in my figure.
"Are you alright, Lia? You look really pale."
I quickly looked around, "Can we talk in private?"
His facial expression morphed into concern as he gestured me to come inside.
"May! We're going to do some homework!"
"Alright! Keep it PG in there and leave the door open!"
My face flushed at her brazen words.
Once we arrived in his room, he closed the door.
Looking around, I took in his messy abode as he tried to tidy up.
"Sorry about the mess."
"No. No you're fine. I mean it's not like we planned for me to come over or anything." I let out a shaky breath, trying to calm my nerves. I handed him the envelope. Taking it, he read the lone sentence. His eyes widened as he rifled through the photos. "I honestly didn't know who else to turn to. Cole and Phoebe are still MIA and Clara is far away."
"Do you know someone who would do this?"
I shook my head until that one woman popped in my mind.
"There's this woman. Every time I'm heading home or going somewhere, she's always there, looking right at me. I thought it was a coincidence at first, but it's been going on for a couple weeks now. I even tried to confront her a few minutes ago, but it's like she disappeared into thin air."
Peter was silent as he kept looking at the crumpled piece of paper and the pictures.
"Did you go to your apartment?"
I shook my head. My mind was racing.
Who is doing this? Is it that lady?
I shot up from the chair and headed toward the door.
"Where are you going?" He placed a hand on me, stopping me from leaving.
"I'm going to check if anything was stolen."
"Let me come with you."
I shook my head, "I'll be back. I just want to check if they took anything."
Without a word, I slipped out of his apartment and went into mine.
The door didn't seem like it was tampered with. As I unlocked my door, I grabbed my pocket knife I had tucked away in my jacket.
Quietly, I scanned the room.
I felt my heart race as I checked every nook and cranny in the apartment.
I let out a relieved sigh once I checked that the coast was clear.
My phone buzzed in my pocket and saw Peter trying to call.
"Hey."
"Oh good that you're okay."
"Yeah I checked and no signs of a break-in."
"Okay. Good." He breathed a sigh of relief. "So what are you going to do?"
I crashed against the couch, "I'm not sure. I'll just keep an eye out on things."
"We'll walk together to and from school. If you have practice, I'll just wait for you to f-"
"No. Don't worry about that. I don't want you waiting around for me."
"No. No. It's fine. I just don't want anything to happen to you."
My heart fluttered.
"Thanks Peter. I don't know what I would do without you."
I heard a yelp through his line, "Uh. I gotta go. I think May burned dinner again. I'll see you tomorrow."
"Bye Peter."
