Chapter 51: The Battle for Lothal Part 2
Outside the Hijacked Command Center...
Four stormtroopers were preparing to dismantle the door.
Then Melch leaped out of the ceiling hatch and shoots one stormtrooper.
"Blast him!"A stormtrooper ordered.
Melch leads the stormtroopers on a chase while Zeb unlocked the blast door and knocked out the remaining stormtrooper.
"Ha-ha."Zeb chuckled. "Works every time."
"Of course it worked, my friends."Hondo agreed. "Just look at Melch. He's positively magnetic!"
Lisa, Zack and Gwen stood close to their companions while Sabine and Hera got their blasters ready.
"I'm sure you've got a special relationship, Hondo, but we're kind of on a mission here."Hera reminded. "We've gotta get that shield up over the city."
"Rex, Hondo, Ketsu and Gwen, you take the north tower."Sabine ordered. "Zeb, Kallus, Gregor and Zack, you take the south. I'll talk you through it from here."
"Let's go, Rebels."Zeb declared.
Rex, Hondo, Ketsu and Gwen head to the North tower while Zeb, Kallus, Gregor and Zack head to the South.
Sabine, Hera and Lisa were left inside the Command Center.
Sabine and Lisa notice the troubled look on Hera's face.
"What is it?"Sabine asked.
"I just hope Ezra..."Hera started.
Sabine puts her hand on Hera's shoulder.
"He knows what he's doing."Sabine assured with a smile.
"Ezra will be back."Lisa commented softly. "I'm sure of it."
Aboard the Chimaera...
"That will be all, Grand Admiral."Emperor Palpatine stated.
Thrawn nodded and walked out of the room, leaving Ezra with the hologram of Emperor Palpatine.
"I apologise for not being there in person, but governing the galaxy takes up much of my time."Emperor Palpatine responded.
"I know who you are, and what you are."Ezra replied with a glare.
"You misjudge me."Emperor Palpatine said. "Can you not see the opportunity that stands here before you?"
"I see a part of the Jedi Temple, which you stole from Lothal."Ezra answered.
"I had this portion of the Temple moved here stone by stone for you."Emperor Palpatine admitted. "Forgive me, but I would have thought you would thank me for this effort."
"Thank you?"Ezra questioned with a hint of anger. "Thank you for destroying the Temple? For imprisoning my people? For killing my parents?!"
"My dear boy, it's you who chose to destroy the Temple."Emperor Palpatine reminded."The actions of your Rebel friends require a firm hand to ensure that there is order on Lothal. As for your parents, allow me to offer what might have been, and what yet may be."
Palpatine gestured for Ezra to enter the structure.
Ezra sees a light at the end of the structure and hears his mother, Mira, calling for him.
"Dinner's ready, Ezra."Mira remarked. "Ezra?"
"They are waiting for you."Emperor Palpatine stated. "Go to them. Open the door. This is what you want, isn't it? The life you deserved."
"But it can't be."Ezra denied.
"Yes, it can, but you must choose to make it so."Emperor Palpatine admitted.
"Ezra?"Mira called out.
Ezra slowly began approaching inside the temple as a smirk grew on Emperor Palpatine's face.
Meanwhile...
Rex, Ketsu, Hondo and Gwen storm the north tower and take down four stormtrooper sentries.
"Base, this is Team A."Ketsu announced in her comlink. "We're in.
"Copy that, Team A."Sabine answered. "What's it look like down there?"
Rex, Ketsu, Hondo and Gwen fought off against the stormtroopers.
"Oh it's just great."Ketsu replied as she used her blaster. "Really wish you were here."
Then Rukh entered the fray with several Death troopers; multiplying the rebels' problems.
Rex took cover as Gwen quickly used her lightsaber to deflect Rukh's laser blasts from hitting her team.
"Our problems are multiplying."Rex stated in his comlink. "We could use some help down here."
In a Hallway...
Zeb, Kallus, Gregor and Zack were under attack in Sector 1244.
"Team B, where are you?"Hera asked.
"We're heading towards Sector GL-44, but you know that plan we had to trap all these stormtroopers in the dome?"Zeb asked.'"It just occurred to me, we're trapped with all these stormtroopers in this dome!"
Zeb, Kallus and Gregor started running away as Zack used the force with his free hand to push the stormtroopers back.
Zack quickly followed after his companions just before Ryder closes the blast doors, giving a rebels a clear path to the shield generators.
"You should have a clear path to the shield generator now."Sabine stated.
"Thanks, Sabine."Zack thanked. "That was helpful."
Zeb, Kallus, Gregor and Zack arrived into the shield generator and hid to see imperial technicians firing at their fellow rebels causing them to attack them.
Gwen smiled seeing her twin brother and the others before she slashed down two imperial technicians.
"Rex, we need those towers back online now!"Sabine ordered.
"I can't get to the control panel."Rex stated. "You've got to extend the bridges."
At the Command Center...
Chopper tried to access the network terminal but gets electrocuted.
"Oh my gosh..."Lisa mumbled in shock.
"Chopper's been fried."Sabine declared in her comlink. "The circuit was protected."
"Great."Rex scoffed sarcastically. "Now what?"
"Find an override panel."Sabine instructed. "You should be able to do it manually from there."
At the North Tower...
Rex looked at Ketsu, who went to the find the manual override hatch.
"Any ideas?"Rex asked.
"Yeah, but I'm gonna stay anyway."Ketsu declared as she took out an item.
Aboard the Chimaera...
Ezra approached the Gateway as his mother Mira tells him that she is baking his favourites.
"Ezra, I made your favourite!"Mira called out.
"The gateway will not be open forever."Emperor Palpatine warned. "Go now, before it's too late."
"No."Ezra replied with a frown. "This is a lie. They died. I-I felt it."
Then Ezra hears his father, Ephraim, calling out to him.
"Ezra!"Ephraim called out and looked at Mira. "Where is that boy?"
"You know it is possible to change fate."Emperor Palpatine stated."There are infinite paths and infinite possibilities, but you must open the door."
"Son?"Ephraim asked. "Are you coming?"
Ezra remained quiet, not knowing what to do.
At the North Tower...
Rex, Ketsu and Hondo continued firing at the stormtrooper technicians and Gwen used her lightsaber to block the Death Troopers' laser blasts.
"Got it!"Ketsu announced.
"About time too."Gwen mumbled in disproval.
Ketsu finds the manual override hatch, which extends the bridges.
Melch soon arrived with a stormtrooper in pursuit but Rex shoots the trooper.
"Look at him go!"Hondo remarked.
Melch takes out the remaining stormtroopers but was struck by a blaster bolt.
"No!"Hondo shouted and shoots the remaining stormtroopers.
Hondo rushed up to Melch.
"Melch, what were you thinking?"Hondo asked. "You're not a hero. You're a pirate, like me."
In the south tower, Kallus, Zeb and Gregor continued blasting at the stormtroopers while Zack deflected the bolts with his lightsaber.
"Even with that bridge extended, there's just too many of them!"Gregor warned. "We're gonna have to do something drastic."
Zeb spots Rukh below with a bunch of death troopers.
"All right, I'll do it!"Zeb stated.
"What?"Zack demanded.
"Zeb, don't!"Kallus replied.
Zeb jumped down and charged at Rukh, sending both of them tumbling off the platform.
"Well, that was unexpected."Zack retorted.
"He's crazy!"Gregor commented.
"Well, it was your idea."Kallus reminded. "Come on!"
Kallus, Gregor and Zack charged at the imperial technicians and took them down before reaching the controls to activate the shield.
Zack notices a wounded imperial technician reaching out his blaster to shot Gregor, but the black haired boy slashed him down with his lightsaber.
"Thanks, kid!"Gregor thanked.
"Don't mention it."Zack answered simply. "Let's get that shield up."
Back at the Chimaera...
"So few have a choice to live the life they want, why deny yourself?"Emperor Palpatine asked.
Ezra looked at Ephraim and Mira as he approached them.
"Mum?"Ezra asked. "Dad?"
"Ezra?"Mira said.
Ezra was affected by his parents' voices and the Emperor released his magnetic binders.
"There."Emperor Palpatine said. "The control for the gateway. Activate it and you can be with your family again."
Ezra looked at his parents, but then remembered Lisa and the others.
"What about my friends?"Ezra asked.
"If you open the gateway, you will save your parents."Emperor Palpatine reminded. "They shall live. Go on. You deserve this."
Ephraim and Mira look at their son as Ezra reached out his hand to them.
"Mum? Dad? You'll always be a part of me."Ezra responded. "But I have to let you go."
Ephraim and Mira smiled sadly at Ezra.
"No!"Emperor Palpatine shouted.
"We love you, Ezra!"Ephraim and Mira called out.
Then Ezra used the Force to tear down the section of the Lothal Jedi Temple while the Emperor screamed in rage.
Ezra charged at the Emperor's hologram, which flickered and revealed his true, scarred form underneath.
The Temple structure collapsed, sealing the Gateway.
Ezra glared at Darth Sidious as he stood up.
"You're wrong."Ezra stated. "I have a family. I don't need anything from you."
"Unfortunate."Darth Sidious replied grimly.
Three Royal Guards charge into the chamber behind Ezra.
"Destroy him!"Darth Sidious ordered.
Ezra charged towards the three guards.
Suddenly the three guards use their Force pikes to lift Ezra into the air, leaving him in a state of agony.
They are joined by three stormtroopers, who blast Ezra.
Ezra quickly used the Force to hurl rubble from the Jedi Temple at his enemies.
Back on Lothal...
Zeb and Rukh fought while navigating through the power conduits of the north tower.
Rukh gained the advantage and tried to kick Zeb, who was clinging to a bar with his feet.
However, the Lasat used one of his rear claws to pin Rukh's leg between two metal bars on the conduit.
At the Bridge of the Chimaera...
"All batteries, prepare a full-scale bombardment of the city."Thrawn ordered. "On my command."
At the Command Center...
Hera, Lisa, Sabine and the group see the missiles of the Chimaera ready to fire again.
"I think we're out of time!"Hera warned.
Sabine spoke in the speaker.
"Guys, now or never."Sabine reminded.
In the Shield Generator...
"Now!"Ketsu declared.
"Zeb?"Zack asked.
"Don't wait on me!"Zeb called out.
Kallus, Zack and Gregor activated the switch while Zeb leapt to safety.
At the Chimaera...
"Fire!"Thrawn ordered.
The Chimaera fired it's attacks but the shield activated which prevented Lothal from being hit.
"It worked!"Hera remarked. "The shield is holding!"
"The city is safe."Lisa chuckled. "We did it."
Sabine placed Chopper back up.
"Chop? Chopper!"Sabine demanded. "Wake up!"
Chopper spins his head a bit and beeped a respond.
"Yeah, that must be tough, but can you please see if you can contact the Ghost?"Sabine suggested. "It's almost time to get out of here."
Chopper beeped in agreement and began to contact the Ghost for a pick-up.
In the Shield Generator...
Zeb picked up Rukh's comlink while Rukh screamed in agony as he was electrocuted to death.
"Rukh! Rukh!"Thrawn shouted."What's your status?"
"Sorry."Zeb apologised. "You'll have to call back.
He's busy at the moment. Ugh. Yeah, um, never mind about calling back."
"Once again, I have let my crew down."Hondo declared sadly. "If only I could get Melch back I would tell him..."
Melch squealed happily and hugged Hondo, who quickly acted that he wasn't sad.
"That he is fortunate to be in my service, because only that keeps him alive!"Hondo commented simply with his arms folded.
Zack rolled his eyes and Gwen giggled lightly as Rex, Gregor, Ketsu and Kallus went next to them.
Above Capital City...
Ezra forced his way onto the bridge of the Chimaera and takes out two of Thrawn's death troopers.
"Looks like you lose, Thrawn."Ezra stated with a frown.
"A momentary setback."Thrawn replied.
Ezra scoffed. "We'll see."
"Sir, several unidentified objects have just entered orbit."An imperial officer reported.
"My blockade will intercept them."Thrawn replied.
"They've destroyed the blockade."the imperial officer admitted. "Our ships are just gone."
"Get Captain Pellaeon."Thrawn ordered.
The imperial officer activated a button and Captain Pellaeon's voice reports to Thrawn.
"Sir, they came out of hyperspace!"Captain Pellaeon protested. "I've never seen-"
"Admiral, we have incoming."the imperial officer warned.
"Take a look."Ezra suggested.
Thrawn turned around, just in time to see the Ghost and Phantom II charged with a pod of purrgil at the Chimaera.
The Chimaera and two other Star Destroyers deploy TIE fighters but were unable to stop the onslaught of the purrgil.
The purrgil rip through the Star Destroyers and TIE fighters as Lothal's citizens watched in amazement.
At the Command Center...
Sabine looked at Hera.
"Uh, when did this become the plan?"Sabine asked.
"You're asking the wrong person."Hera replied.
Lisa became worried as she stared at the Chimaera.
At the Chimaera...
Ezra faces Thrawn and his stormtroopers alone on the bridge of the Chimaera.
"Whatever happens next happens to both of us."Thrawn said.
"That's the idea."Ezra replied.
Then tentacles burst through the transparisteel viewpoints and grab several stormtroopers.
Ezra used the Force to push Thrawn towards a tentacle, which grabbed him.
Lisa contacts Ezra in his comlink.
"Ezra, can you hear me?"Lisa asked."The purrgil are they..."
"Yeah!"Ezra answered. "Pretty good, huh?"
"Well, you could've told me and the rest of us!"Lisa reminded angrily.
"I wanted it to be a surprise."Ezra admitted.
Several stormtroopers storm the bridge but Ezra uses the Force and a blaster to force them back.
Thrawn breaks free and tried to shoot Ezra with his blaster pistol but the boy hurled him against a transparisteel viewpoint with the Force.
A second wave of stormtroopers tried to enter the bridge but Ezra seals the blast doors.
Then the Phantom II approached in front of the Chimaera and it opened up revealing Boost and Warthog inside.
"Jump, Ezra!"Boost called out.
"Come on!"Warthog shouted.
Ezra rushed passed Thrawn and the tentacles before using the Force to land into the Phantom II as Warthog brought him in.
The Phantom II took off as the purrgil disappeared with the Chimaera into hyperspace.
At the Command Center...
Lisa, Sabine, Hera, Zeb, Zack, Gwen, Kallus, Rex, Gregor, Ryder, Ketsu, Hondo and Pryce watched the sight in shock.
The silence was interrupted by Wolffe, who asks if that was part of the plan.
"Um, was that the plan?"Wolffe asked."Because we're all clear up here. There are no Imperial ships left."
"This is our chance! Let's finish this!"Sabine stated and looked at Chopper. "Chopper, prime the thrusters for launch. We're gonna blow this place."
Chopper beeped as Hera took out her comlink.
"Mart, we need immediate pickup."Hera ordered.
"Copy that, General."Mart answered.
Chopper get to work and the Imperial Complex launches from Capital City.
Ryder looked at Governor Pryce.
"You've lost, Arihnda."Ryder stated. "You should come with us."
"I serve the Empire until the end."Governor Pryce replied firmly.
"So, not much longer."Ryder admitted.
Then stormtroopers burst into the command center.
The rebels and stormtroopers engage in a brief gun battle as they retreat.
Lisa, Zack and Gwen used their lightsabers to cut through the viewport so that the rebels can escape onto the landing bay upstairs.
The three jedi and the rebels climbed up the top of the command center as the stormtroopers followed them.
Then the Ghost and Phantom II flew past and strafed the stormtroopers, causing them to fall down the viewport.
The Ghost does a second pass and lands at the executive landing bay.
The rebels board the Ghost and flew away from the rising Imperial Complex.
"It's gaining altitude over the sea."Rex warned.
Hera looked at Sabine.
"It's all you, Sabine."Hera commented.
"For Kanan."Sabine declared.
Sabine activated the detonators she has planted inside the Dome and they exploded.
In the Sky...
As the Dome's thrusters explode, Governor Pryce stood in the command center as she was consumed by the blast.
The Dome explodes in Lothal's upper atmosphere, sending debris raining down.
In the Ghost...
Lisa stood in the cargo hold as she opened the entrance to see the Phantom II show up.
The entrance of the Phantom II opened and Ezra came out.
Ezra came into the cargo hold and walked up to Lisa.
"Hey-"Ezra started with a smile.
Lisa frowned and gives Ezra a punch on the arm.
"Ow!"Ezra groaned and rubbed his arm.
"That was for scaring me."Lisa stated.
"Aw, come on."Ezra complained with a frown. "Is it always going to be like this?"
Suddenly Lisa grabbed Ezra by the shirt and gives him a kiss on the lips.
Ezra froze before melting into the kiss.
As quickly as it had begun, the kiss ended.
"I could get use to this."Ezra admitted simply.
Lisa smirked a little as she walked away with Ezra following her.
Boost and Warthog smiled at the sight as Ferus simply frowned as he piloted the Phantom II with Nadia next to him.
"And some things never change."Ferus declared with a hint of sarcasm.
"Do you think we might babysit someday?"Nadia asked in amusement.
"As if I'll ever let that happen."Ferus retorted.
Artoo and R2-KT laughed lightly at Ferus' respond.
Inside the Ghost...
Lisa and Ezra joined their friends at the cockpit as Rex looked at Hera.
"Not to kill the moment, but the Empire won't just let us keep this planet."Rex reminded. "We need to prepare for how we're going to fight back."
"Perhaps the Rebel Alliance will see our victory and finally send support."Kallus admitted.
"We took Lothal without them."Zeb declared. "We can keep it without them."
The sound of cheering was heard below.
"Zeb, you may be right."Hera stated. "Listen."
The Ghost and Phantom II flew over Capital City's streets while several citizens take the remaining Imperial stormtroopers and their officers into custody.
"Looks like the people are with you, General Syndulla."Kallus stated.
"Then if the Empire wants a fight, we'll be ready for them."Hera remarked.
The rebels have won Lothal!
