Chapter 9
in the car
"It's been hours. Jasper-," Clarke says.
"Jasper is in good hands. Monty and Octavia will take good care of him," Finn says.
"While we are on the subject, why is it that everyone thinks me wanting Jasper to not die is a bad thing? Like I'm such a downer. I can be fun," Clarke says, clearly drunk. "You think I'm fun, right?" Clarke asks Finn.
"Yeah, among other things". Finn says.
"Your fun." Wells agrees.
"You remember that time wh-". Wells says.
"Remember that time when you betrayed me and got my father executed"? Clarke cuts him off.
"Yeah I remember, but since you brought it up, and I didn't because I didn't wanna talk about it. What were you thinking"? Clarke asks.
"I made a mistake Clarke". Wells says.
Clarke scoffs.
"You made a mistake? You know, I bet, you couldn't wait to run to daddy. Tell him everything, wanting to be the perfect son he always wanted". Clarke says tearing up.
"What do you what me to say"?! Wells shouts.
"I want an explanation". Clarke says. Wells looks at her for a moment.
"I can't give you one. I thought I could trust him". Wells says. Clarke shakes her head.
"I thought I could trust my best friend, guess we're both wrong". Clarke says.
"I'm still you're friend." Wells says.
"No you're not. If you were my friend, you'd walk out to that fog and never come back". Clarke says. voice cracking.
"Okay, how bout we just, take it easy"? Finn asks as he slowly takes the bottle from Clarke. Clarke glares at him.
"I have no idea how to do that". Clarke says.
Wells takes the drink and slowly drinks it. They all sit there for a moment.
"So, we uh, having fun yet"? Finn asks.
The dropship
Monty and Octavia were up with Jasper. Jasper lets a pained moan. "That kid is driving me crazy," One of the hundred says from downstairs. "Can't take this much longer," Another says. "Someone needs to shut that kid up,"
"That's it. I'm ending this," Murphy says.
"I heard Bellamy gave him till tomorrow," One of the girls said.
"Yeah, well, he's not here. The kid is dying anyway. I'm just getting it over with," Murphy says. Monty runs to the ladder and climbs up.
"Murphy's gonna kill Jasper," Monty says as he climbs up. They close the hatch on Murphy. Monty was keeping the hatch shut.
"Open up, i'm gonna kill him"!!! Murphy exclaimed.
"Don't let him in"!! Octavia exclaims as she grabs a pole.
"MONTY OPEN UP!!!! LET ME IN"!!! Murphy yelled out in rage.
They use the pole to lock it shut as Murphy is still trying to bust through.
"BOTH OF YOU BETTER OPEN THIS HATCH RIGHT NOW"!!! Murphy yells out.
With Clarke's group
Clarke opens the door in the morning. The fog was gone. "The fogs cleared. Come on," Clarke says as she climbs out. The two boys follow. "Let's go. Jasper's waiting," Clarke says as they go forward. They walk through the woods. Wells was walking with Finn.
"Last night was pretty intense, huh? Have you and Clarke ever-"? Finn asks.
"No, not like that". Wells says.
"So, help me out, your best friend, tells you something fairly explosive. You seem like the type of guy to keep it to yourself". Finn says.
"You don't know me, Finn". Wells says.
"Why'd you do it"? Finn asks.
"I don't know, look, why do you care"? Wells asks.
"You knew what the rules were on the Ark. You knew her dad would get floated". Finn says. Wells stops and look at him.
"I made a choice, if she hates me for the rest of her life, I made the right choice, and that's all you need to know". Wells says before he walks away.
With Bellamy and Charlotte
Bellamy walks out the cave, the fog was cleared.
"Its Clear". Bellamy says. Charlotte walks out.
"Anybody out here? Jones?" Bellamy asks.
"Over here"! The teen says. They run towards him and the teens
"Lost you in the stew. Where'd you guys go"? Bellamy asks.
"Went to a cave out there. What the hell was that"? Jones ask.
"Dunno." Bellamy says. He looks around and sees Atom is missing.
"Where's Atom." Bellamy asks.
With Clarke, Finn, and Wells
Clarke, Finn, and Wells were heading back towards camp. Finn was talking to Clarke.
"Trapped in a three-hundred year old car by acid fog. Whew, last night was pretty..fun". Finn says.
"It wasn't fun. it was irresponsible. We should've left the second the fog cleared". Clarke says.
"Even if the fog cleared, we wouldn't made it back through the woods at night." Finn says. He looks at Wells who was walking abed of them. "You know, you were kinda rough on Wells". Finn says.
"Hardly". Clarke says. "He's a pretty straight up guy. And he loves you. You know that right? But everytime your dad comes up, he won't give you a straight answer. Makes me think he's hiding something. So I gotta ask you. How are you so sure that Wells was the one who turned in your dad"? Finn asks.
"Hundred percent, alright? He's the only one I told". Clarke says.
"Was he the only one who knew"? Finn asks.
Clarke looks at him for a moment.
They hear a scream. They run until they reach Charlotte, who was looking at Atom, who was burned, blinded on the ground. Bellamy was beside him. Bellamy bends down beside the teen.
"Kill me," Atom says. Charlotte walks over and hands Bellamy her knife. Bellamy looks at her.
"Don't be afraid". She says. Bellamy nods as he grabs the knife. He looks at the other teens.
"All of you. Go back to camp," Bellamy says. They nod as they leave. "Charlotte, you too." Bellamy says. Charlotte nods as she walks away. Bellamy hesitated. He sees Clarke as she comes over and sits with the teen. "Give me the knife, Bellamy". She says. Bellamy nods as he hands her the knife. "It's ok, it's ok I'm going to help you". Clarke tells the now burned Atom. She brushes his hair with her hand and hums. She slowly stabs him in the neck. He dies.
They walk into camp. It was now night. "Their back." one of the delinquents said. "We gotta get to Jasper. I'll need boiled water to make the medicine," Clarke says. Wells and Finn set Atom's body down.
"Get Clarke whatever she needs," Bellamy says. Finn nods. "I'm gonna get this grave dug up," Wells says. Bellamy nods as Octavia walks out the dropship.
"It's about damn time, they were going to kill Jasper. Did you get the medicine"? Octavia asks.
"Yeah, I got it". Clarke says. Octavia nods as she walks over to Bellamy.
"Hey, you're okay." Octavia says as she hugs him. Bellamy nods. Octavia looks around.
"Where's Atom?" She asks. Bellamy stays quiet. Octavia looks at the body on the ground and tries to walk over to it. Bellamy stops her.
"Octavia, don't please, just stay back." Bellamy tries to stop her.
"Stop." Octavia says as she walks over to the body and moves the jacket off his face and sees Atom. Octavia start's to tear up.
"Atom." She says weakly.
"There was nothing I could do. I'm so sorry o," Bellamy says.
"Stop, just stop." Octavia says before she gets up and walks away towards the dropahip. Murphy walks over to Bellamy.
"Lost anyone here"? Bellamy asks.
"No, Jasper, still breathing, barely. I tried to take him out but your psycho little sister-". Murphy says. Bellamy. furiously pushes Murphy grabs Murphy by his collar. swinging him around.
"My what, MY WHAT"?!?! Bellamy yelled out furiously. Murphy stared at him.
"You're little sister". Murphy says. He pushes him off.
"Yeah, that's right, my little sister. Now, anything else you wanna say"? Bellamy asks.
"No, nothing, sorry". Murphy said in a pissed voice. Bellamy walks away.
Murphy looks at his knife and throws into a tree, as it lands perfectly.
Octavia were in the dropship with Finn, Clarke and Monty. Jasper is able to hold down some of the seaweed tea, which Clarke takes as a good sign. Octavia wipes his mouth as some of it dribbles down his chin.
"I'm sorry about Atom." Clarke says. Octavia sniffles. "Guess we're gonna have to get used to people dying now, huh?" She asks before she runs her hands through Jasper's hair with a small smile "But not you, you hear me? You're staying right here." Octavia says as she continues to brush her hand through Jasper's hair.
Wells were digging up the the body. Clarke walks over to him. Wells look at her.
"Something wrong?" Wells asks.
"No, Jasper's awake, and that's good". Clarke says. Wells nod.
"I know I probably don't deserve it. But I need to know the truth". Clarke says, eyes tearing up.
"What is it"? Wells asks.
"It was my mom, wasn't it? She was the one who told your dad". Clarke says. Wells looks at her, knowing that Clarke was right, Abby, Clarke's own mother, was the one who got Clarke's Father executed.
"I didn't wanna believe it, I couldn't. I blamed you because my father's dead, and it was my mother's fault...is it"? Clarke asks Wells, sobbing. Wells doesn't answer.
"Wells, please". Clarke begs.
"I knew how you would feel". Wells says. Clarke looks down. "Look Clarke, I wanted to-". Wells says.
"To protect me". Clarke finishes. She laughs mirthlessly.
"You let me hate you". Clarke says weakly. Wells shrugs. "What are friends for"? Wells ask.
"How can you forgive me". Clarke asks. Wells shakes his head. "That's already been done". Wells says as he brings Clarke in a hug. Clarke sobs.
"Its ok, its ok". Wells tries to comfort her.
Few hours later
Wells was On watch. Charlotte walks over to him.
"Hi." She says. Wells smile.
"Couldn't sleep?" Wells asks.
"I never can. You on watch?" Charlotte asks.
"Join me." Wells says. Charlotte sits next to him.
"I had a nightmare. I had them every night. But I found a way end them." She says. Wells looks out into the woods.
"I'm sorry." Charlotte whimpers as she stabs Wells in the hip.
He looks at the little girl, who just stares at him, crying. He starts to fall on the ground.
He wheeze for air as the coughing starts and blood flies out of his mouth.
"Every night. I see your father and I see how he got my parents killed" Charlotte says, shakingly.
"Then I see your face every morning. And the nightmare ends only to start a new but in real life. I had to slay my demons." Charlotte says.
Wells vision blurs out as Wells starts to pass out. Charlotte panics and runs away.
