Rip paced around the parlor, "It's hard to imagine that, when joined with their siblings, they're as powerful as God."
"But right now, that's just a useless piece of wood," Jax pointed out.
"It's not useless." Sara picked up one of the spear fragments, flipping it in the air, "I know ten different ways to kill somebody with this."
Mick clears his throat, "Not to mention, it's great for scratching in those hard-to-reach places."
"Please don't tell me you used the Spear of Destiny as a back scratcher," Ray pleaded.
"Who said anything about my back?"
"Well, as Mr. Rory has demonstrated, in the wrong hands, this divine artifact can be put to truly horrific use." Martin bemoaned.
"Yeah," Mick grunted.
"Which is why I called this meeting, to figure out how to keep it out of the Legion's hands." Sara said, looking at Amaya she asked "Where's Nate?"
"Nathaniel said he wasn't feeling up to socializing. He said he'll go along with whatever we decide."
"What is there to decide? We find the Legion, steal back their pieces of the spear, and we get Chloe back," Jax said as if it was obvious.
"There's no need to find the Legion. I know where they've been operating out of."
"Why keep it a secret? Let's just go get them," Mick said.
"The reason why you've been unable to locate Mr. Thawne and his partners all this time is because they've been operating outside of it," Rip explained.
"You lost me." Mick said around his beer.
"Yeah, me too." Jax agreed.
"Three" Sara chimed.
"What's the one place that exists outside of time?" Rip questioned.
"No way," Ray said incredulously.
"Yes way. We must return to the Vanishing Point."
I wandered the depths of the Vanishing Point doing my best to avoid the Legion. I couldn't tell how exactly long it had been since I had been brought here. My solitude was only broken when Damian would force his presence upon me for meals thankfully few and far between. I had run into Rip once but the glint in his eyes when he looked at me had me avoiding him as well. Damian became increasingly smug the longer I was stuck here, everytime he was around me he would scent me and look at me as if he knew something I did not. I felt so numb, but I did know that I hated him with a burning passion.
"We're in position. Ray?" Sara asked over comms.
"Ready" Ray responded.
"Mick" Sara called.
"Yeah."
"Standby," Sara told Mick, "Here," she turned to Rip, holding out a piece of the spear for him.
"The pieces of the spear call to each other. We will be able to use these to locate the pieces in the Legion's possession," Rip took the piece Sara offered to him.
"That's why we're separating into two teams," Sara answered.
Rip turned to Jax, "Mr. Jackson, shall we?"
"Are you sure bringing out pieces of the spear was a good idea? If this goes wrong…" Amaya questioned Sara as Rip and Jax walked away.
"Then the Legion has most of the spear. So we have to be careful."
Amaya walked slowly through the Vanishing Point, unfamiliar with her surroundings, she held her piece of the spear in front of her. A familiar scent reached her, Chloe she thought. Following the scent she moved quickly until she came across a closed door where the scent ended. Tucking the piece of the spear away she cautiously opened the door, "Chloe," she called softly.
Amaya gently guided me through the Vanishing Point, "We have to get to the ship." Hearing something over her comm she urged me to move faster. We got to the ship we were first to walk through the cargo bay doors. I flinched as Rip walked onto the ship followed by Jax and Mick. Finally Sara ran onto the ship Ray flying behind her.
"You get it?" Sara asked.
"Indeed."
"Gideon, get us out of here."
"Piece of cake," Mick said as he led us into the parlor.
"Whoa, you thought that was easy?" Jax exclaimed.
"No, I want a piece of cake and a beer."
"Later, where's the spear?" Sara asked. I placed my spear piece on the table and sat gingerly in a chair behind where Ray stood around it.
"There we go." Rip said as he laid out the rest of the pieces of the spear. Once they were out they produced a surge of power that everyone could hear.
"What is that," Ray asked
"That's power. The pieces of the spear are calling to each other. They long to be whole." Rip had barely finished before the pieces merged together with a zap of power.
"Yep, that just happened," Jax said.
Martin spoke in awe, "Well, that's remarkable. The spear must be composed of some kind of magnetized compound which acts as its own sealant."
Rip protested as Martin reached down to touch the spear, "No, no, no, don't, don't, don't. Don't touch it. Now that the spear is whole, it will try and lure each of us to use it. It will draw on our weaknesses, our desires, our regrets. It will promise each of us that we can remake the world just as we want it."
"Well, what's wrong with that? What? Oh, come on. You're all thinking it," Mick laughed. I had to agree with him that using it could fix things.
"Absolute power corrupts, Mr. Rory. Even when used with the best intentions, which is why I'd attempted to destroy it."
"Well, maybe you didn't try hard enough," Mick said, whipping out his heat gun he fired an arc of flames at the spear.
"No, no, no, no, no!"
"Not on the ship, bro!"
"You said destroy, so I destroyed."
"It's not destroyed. It's not even charred," Amaya pointed out.
"Any harm brought upon the spear is temporary. It will always heal itself."
"That's why you had to keep the pieces separated," Sara realized.
"Yes, accomplished with much effort and numerous explosives."
"Wait a sec. There's something written on it," Amaya leaned forward to look closer.
"That's odd. That wasn't there before. It must have been revealed by the flames."
"Hmm, see, I did help." I chuckled at Mick's words feeling something other than numb for the first time in a while.
"Natum de sanguine, perditus a sanguine," Amaya read.
"Anyone know Latin?"
"Temper, temper."
"Don't test me, Damien!"
"Shouldn't it be the other way around? You sent me and Malcolm off to find the Kalabros Manuscript while the Legends managed to abscond with the Spear of Destiny and my omega. I should have that zombie Speedster you're so afraid of eat your brain."
"No. No, this is actually a positive development."
"Or maybe he already has."
"With the entire spear in the Legends' possession, we no longer have to keep going after it piecemeal."
"Yeah, I'm a glass half-full kind of guy."
"The legendary idiots won't be able to use it. They'll either try to hide it or destroy it, and when they do, we'll be there, waiting."
"No."
"Excuse me?"
"Not just us. I'm not sure if you're keeping score, Eobard, but we're losing. So it's time to change the game."
I wandered through the ship headed for the infirmary to get checked out at Sara's insistence. "Alright Gideon let's get this over with," I said as I entered the infirmary.
Please lay back on the diagnostic chair.
I looked up at the ceiling as Gideon's scans started. Relax, it's just Gideon I thought forcing myself to stay calm.
Diagnostics complete.
Getting up I said, "Well, just let Sara know everything is fine."
Miss Kane there is an abnormality in the diagnostics.
I paused, "What abnormality, Gideon?" I went numb at her response. Abruptly I stood and left Gideon calling after me. My eyes burned as I retreated to my room, this can't be happening. I collapsed as the door closed, tears streamed from my eyes, he knew that's why he was so smug.
The air on the bridge was tense after Mick stole the spear for the Legion. I stared straight ahead still numb, barely comprehending what was happening.
Amaya was pissed, "We never should have set foot on that battlefield."
"We didn't have a choice."
"That's not true. There was a choice, and you made the wrong one, and now the Spear of Destiny, the most powerful weapon in all of history, is in the hands of not one, but four psychopaths."
"Don't forget Mr. Rory."
I looked down with tears in my eyes on top of everything Mick had betrayed us I had never thought it was possible.
"That's right. We trusted him, and he screwed us over."
"Did we trust him? I mean, admit it, we never really did, and he picked up on it."
"Yeah, apparently Mr. Rory's not entirely stupid."
"We lied to him. Not Mick, Tolkien. We told him there was hope. That humanity will light its way, but we just ended up dumping him back in the trenches."
"We had to restore time. Although I suppose it doesn't really much matter now that reality itself is threatened."
"Maybe not. Last time I checked, there was not an on/off button on the spear. What if what if they don't know how to use it?"
We can only hope they don't know how to use it.
Eobard inspected the spear in his hand gleefully, he chuckled, "Oh. I have to say, well done. I've heard of your skills as a thief before, but this has taken it to a whole new level."
"Truly masterful, getting one of them to steal it for us," Damian meandered closer to the spear.
Len spoke up, "He was never really one of them. Were you, Mick?"
Mick got closer to Len, "I thought you said the spear belonged to us."
"There's plenty of power to go around."
"Thanks for waiting for me. Seems like I missed a few things," Malcolm said as he walked in carrying a wrapped package.
"You found the Kalabros."
"The word of God himself."
"It's like the owner's manual for the Spear of Destiny."
"It wasn't easy to find."
"Now what," Mick asked.
"Grab hold."
