How It Happened - Part 2

Ezra wasn't expecting them to chase him so relentlessly through Lothal.

They weren't expecting him to keep going so relentlessly.

Both parties had surprised one another and Ezra couldn't help but wonder: 'who are these people?'.

He was also wondering what was in the crates he was carrying along behind him that were so important. The people after him were desperate to have them back, as were the Empire. It seemed like the entire Imperial Guard of Lothal was chasing them down.

He hadn't thought this through. He hadn't wanted to attract this much attention to himself. What am I going to do?

Ezra really wasn't paying attention. Too much on his mind, too many people after him, too little sleep. He wasn't aware of when it happened or how it happened, for that matter, but somehow the man chasing him had ended up in front of him and Ezra was forced to come to a screeching halt before he could crash.

He looked up at the man before him with wide eyes full of shock. It was the presence he'd felt earlier in his dream and on the rooftop. His mouth hung slightly open. Did the man have the same weird feeling in the back of his head like Ezra did?

It was only then that the teen recognised the man was speaking, his mouth visibly moving, but no sound registering in Ezra's in-shock state of mind. Something about calling it a day?

But that's when he noticed.

TIE-Fighters!

He could see what was about to happen, so he grinned cheekily (as well as smugly) as he replied, "Day's not over yet!"

Then he spun the Speeder round and rocketed off as fast as the bike would manage, waving over his shoulder and calling back, "Have a good one!"

Kanan smirked as he watched the boy go. He'd have no chance at outrunning the TIEs. If Kanan could catch up with him - which he could very easily do - then, not only would he get those crates back, but he would also have a chance to talk to the kid. He'd seen him in his dream and he needed answers. That kid could provide the answers because he, Kanan Jarrus, had no doubt that this wasn't just one big, crazy coincidence. The Force didn't work that way. Something was telling him he needed to stick with the young boy. If the Force thought they needed to be together, so be it.

As Kanan called in for the Ghost to come pick him up, he couldn't help wondering - with a bit of surprise - where this renewed faith in the Force had come from. Or when he'd been so eager to listen to its guidance. The Force had never helped him out before. His master had died because of it. Thousands of Jedi had died from it.

So why the sudden boost of faith? What made the young thief so special? It couldn't be a coincidence, could it?
