Restoration and Retribution
Moments after they've departed from the arena, everyone hurried down to the docks; where they came upon a team of centaurs looking out towards the sea (a handful of which were members of the guard.) "Soldiers, what have you to report" questioned King Zaid, "what do you see?" Without delay, one of the soldiers quickly handed their spyglass over to the king.
Feeling equally curious, Nami took out her own spyglass and aimed it towards the distance. There, she spotted a fleet of ships sailing through a dimensional tear in the water. "I fear do not recognize those ships, everyone" Zaid confessed, "but judging from the markings on their sails...I suspect they are a military legion of some kind."
Upon hearing the word "military," a sudden chill ran up both Nami's spine and those of the remaining Straw Hats. After taking another look at the ships, Nami immediately spotted the markings Zaid spoke of. "I know those ships anywhere" she said with a light yet fearful growl, "it's the Marines, they're a military group from my world and if I'm my guess is correct...they're all probably here for Luffy!"
With this revelation, King Zaid became quite concerned and told his men to be on their guard; in case the Marine forces truly did to harm anyone. "This is troubling" thought Garnet, "if these military people passed through the dimensional tears, I wonder who...or what else entered this world along with them?" Mere seconds after this thought came to mind, the members of Team Phantom suddenly heard a cacophony of familiar voices sounding off from nearby.
They turned slightly and found a crowd of people moving about the streets, viciously questioning many confused centaurs around them about the whereabouts of Danny Phantom. Among them were the familiar faces of the Foley parents, the Manson parents, Valerie's father and several students and teachers from Casper High. "What the...Our parents, how did they get here" Sam and Tucker exclaimed in unison, "for that matter...how did any of them get here?!"
After taking a moment to think things over, Gabriel deduced that another tear must've opened up in a place where the people from Danny's Earth could enter more easily. "You younglings seem concerned about this crowd's presence here" a centaur guard stated, "are they friend...or foe?" After a brief moment of silence, Sam and Tucker answered this inquiry with only two words; "it's debatable."
No sooner had they said this, Sam's own parents proceeded to yell threateningly at the locals; demanding to know where they were "holding their daughter hostage." "I'm warning you...whatever you freaks are" Westley Manson said firmly, "if we don't get answers right this second, we'll sue!" Unsurprisingly, not one of the centaurs seemed to understand what he was saying; much to Mr. Manson's annoyance.
As a result, they dismissed his threats as nothing more than the ravings of a "mad fool" and continued on with their usual business. "Somebody better talk to us and we mean now" Pamela Manson growled, "where is that ghost boy holding our daughter?!" Once more, the locals answered in saying they did not understand what she wished to know; which only seemed to infuriate the Mansons even more.
This prompted Sam to at last, step in and stop her parents for making any more of a scene than they already did. "Relax, you nervous nimrods" she groaned loudly, "I'm perfectly fine...and for the record, Danny did not kidnap me or anything else 'obscene!'" After disregarding their daughter's minor insult; the Mansons, once again demanded to know what happened to her?
"That is precisely what the rest of us wish to know" a voice suddenly said from the crowd, "so, young lady...we hope you'll be able to cooperate with us and explain what's going on." Not long after this, a group of centaurs suddenly backed away and another stranger came marching onto the scene. He was a strapping fellow (possibly in his twenties) dressed in a sort of policeman's uniform.
He stood six feet tall, had matching purple hair and eyebrows and wore a thick blue and yellow chest plate over the top half of his uniform. Though this man wasn't familiar to many within the crowd; from his attire alone, everyone sensed he was an officer of the law and that they had to behave themselves accordingly. Despite the confusion he felt about the officer's presence in this place, Parm felt nonetheless happy to see someone familiar and sighed with relief.
"Captain Faier, it's so good to see a friendly face" he said while attempting a friendly chuckle, "what b-b-brings you here?" While also pleased to have come across a friendly/familiar face, the officer reminded himself that he was on duty and saluted the young man respectfully. "I'm afraid I don't quite know hoe to answer, Mr. Sean" said the captain, "one moment, I was pursuing a renegade dragon racer and the next...I see some odd images in the sky and I ended up here."
As everyone listened, Faier explained how he was almost within arm's reach of apprehending the criminal...until something strange happened. "I know you all will probably laugh at me for saying this" he murmured skeptically, "but during my pursuit, some sort of...tear appeared ahead of my unit; we suddenly ran through it and we ended up in...this place." At first, the captain expected Parm and his friends to start laughing at him or call him crazy.
But much to his surprise, they looked as though they believed him. "Believe us when we tell you, Sir...we know exactly what you're talking about" Kitt stated, "the thing you ran through...it's a dimensional tear, something that separates this universe from ours." Now, after making such an explanation; a part of her anticipated for Faier and his team to think she was speaking nonsense...and she was correct.
That was when the centaur guards directed the man's attention out towards the sea, where a fleet of ships was seen headed their way. At the same time, Captain Faier saw that the aforementioned vessels were sailing through what looked like a tear or a hole of some kind in the water. It wasn't long until the others caught sight of this as well and wondered just what was going on.
"There will be time for questions and answers later, everyone" Pearl said firmly, "but right now, we need to hurry...the boys could be in danger!" Upon hearing this, it didn't take very long for everyone to understand who the stranger was referring to. "The boys...do you mean Steven and those others we saw in the sky" a small elderly woman dressed in a business suit asked, "where are they now?"
After this, the people from Artha's world began to question Pearl about his safety. Before long, some teenagers from Danny's home started demanding answers about his whereabouts as well. In time, half of the crowd began to murmur with worry; while others chose to speak out in anger.
"This is all probably just a stupid scheme concocted by the Fentons...Danny mostly" Westley exclaimed, "he's probably faking a disappearance to earn sympathy points from..." Just as Mr. Manson was about to finish his rant, he was suddenly struck down by a powerful right hook punch to the face. Of course; he was safely caught by his mother and wife, soon after but it still felt quite painful.
Upon recovering, Westley was surprised to see that it was his own daughter who struck him. "Samantha...how dare you" he gasped, "I am your father and you've got no right to..." Once again, Sam struck her father with another powerful blow; this time, to the gullet.
As Westley hunched over onto his knees, gasping desperately for air; he looked up slightly and saw a burning fury glowing in his daughter's eyes. "I swear to God...Daddy" she murmured with utter venom in her voice, "if you make one more spiteful comment about Danny, Tuck or the Fentons again, I will kill you where you stand!" While the Manson Parents felt utterly appalled by their daughter's words; the grandmother, Ida was quite proud of Sam for standing up for herself (on the inside.)
"Now, then...we've got more important business to attend to" Sam glowered angrily, "so, if you people want answers; follow us...or whatever." With that said, she and the rest of the group hurried off into the distance; leaving their families and/or associates feeling quite confused. As if sensing their feelings, Pearl approached the crowd of confused people and offered up some words of comfort; just as she knew Steven would.
"Do not be alarmed, everyone" she said in a somewhat hesitant tone, "I know things may seem strange; what with appearing in an odd new world, all the things you saw in the skies of all of your worlds...a-a-and the fact that your heroes are not present right now. But..." Unfortunately for Pearl; the instant she made this statement, the crowd suddenly erupted in a panicked frenzy. This caused her to feel quite disappointed in herself, wishing that her people skills were as strong as Steven's.
"Don't worry, Pearl; you did your best and that's what counts" Garnet said while patting her shoulder, "let me give it a try, this time." With that said; she took a few steps forward, summoned up her largest pair of gauntlets and slammed them together. This caused a thunderous clap to echo loudly through the air, one that seemed to reach as far out as where the fleet of Navy ships was.
In an instant, the crowd quickly fell silent and turned their attention towards the woman before them; who appeared to be smiling proudly with satisfaction. "Good...Now that I have your attention, I know you all must be feeling scared and confused right now" Garnet said calmly, "but everything will be explained, if you'll just follow us." In response to this, Bumblebee flew up to the permafusion and asked how she expected everyone to trust her.
"If you won't trust her, Bee...trust us" Cyborg said firmly while stepping forward, "the other Titans and I been with these people for a while and...we know they can be trusted, I promise you." At first, Bumblebee and her team still questioned the idea in following a stranger to...who knows where. But after hearing a fellow Titan assure them that the stranger meant no ill will, they decided to play along...for now.
Meanwhile, the rest of the crowd looked as though they still needed some convincing. "Now, folks; hold on a minute" Captain Faier said firmly, "I know this whole thing feels odd...but something about all these strangers tells me that we can trust them." After that, he and his fellow officers decided to join Garnet's group; leaving only those from Beach City, Amity Park and Luffy's world feeling undecided.
"Just tell me one thing, Garnet before we go anywhere with you and these strangers...is my daughter safe" a woman asked from among the Beach City crowd, "her name is Connie and...and while I know her friend, Steven is probably keeping her safe; I just...I just..." Before the woman could finish her sentence, she suddenly felt her eyes well up with tears of worry. Upon sensing her sadness; a man, presumably her husband, approached her and hugged the woman tenderly.
"Please, take us to the children" the man urged pleasingly, "we just want to know if they're both okay." As if sensing the couple's desperation, King Thaylog approached them and smiled kindly. "You must be Master Doug and Lady Priyanka, Connie Maheswaran's family" he inquired, "'tis a pleasure to finally meet you face-to-face."
Despite their initial shock over how the strange creature knew them before they had the chance to make introductions, neither Doug nor Priyanka had time to think on it. While doing their best to keep themselves calm, they demanded for Thaylog to take them to where Connie was. "Rest easy, my friends; your daughter is safe" the elf king assured, "she is currently attending to her friend, Master Steven; who...is currently indisposed."
While very few among the crowd understood the meaning of the term; from Thaylog's tone alone, they realized that Steven might be in some sort of trouble. At the same time, others were becoming quite impatient and wish to get moving immediately. "Okay, I'm getting really tired of waiting here for the rest of you to cooperate" Jazz grumbled, "I know a quicker way we can all get back to the Coliseum...DESIREE!"
The instant the young teen screamed, a cloud of green smoke manifested above everyone's heads and the genie-like visage of Desiree appeared soon after. "What do you wish of me, young lady" she asked with a mildly impatient tone, "and be quick about it, I need to be waiting with the others in case your brother comes too." Upon hearing these words, the likes of Paulina and Mr. Grey became quite concerned and asked what had become of Danny.
"Instead of telling you, we can show you what happened" Jazz said stoically, "Desiree...with the exception of whoever's on those ships out in the water, I wish for you to send all of us to the Coliseum." At first, everyone in the crowd of newcomers doubted that "wishing" would solve anything. But as Desiree cried out "so you have wished it, so it shall be," she snapped her fingers and everyone suddenly vanished in a cloud of green smoke.
Meanwhile, back out at sea; one of the Navy troops on board had caught sight of what happened and almost fell over himself. "Did you all see that" he cried out in alarm, "Straw Hat's nakama and those other strangers suddenly...disappeared into thin air!" Naturally, the other sailors and soldiers on board the ship thought the man was speaking nonsense and wasted no time in letting him know that.
After a while, though; their frivolity came to an abrupt end, when the sound of a loud crash suddenly rang out. This, in truth was caused by Admiral Akainu's fist; which he slammed hard up against the wall outside his quarters. Naturally, this alone caused the soldiers to quiver with fear and immediately stand at attention.
"Do not be so quick to dismiss the abilities of Straw Hat Luffy or those who stand with him, men" he said tensely, "there appears to be more going on here than we think...so, be on your guard." Without pause; the troops responded with a hearty "SIR, YES SIR" and were quickly sent back to their posts. Only Akainu remained behind at the bow of his ship, glaring fiercely at the harbor in the distance.
"I will get you yet, Straw Hat" he thought viciously, "and if whoever lives here chooses to hide you away or protect you...they will meet the same fate!" While he stood at his post, Akainu didn't realize that a small Transponder Snail was nestled secretly beneath the ship's bowsprit. As Akainu continued speaking above it, his words were being transmitted to the other ships that sailed alongside his own; where other admirals were listening in.
The moment they heard of Akainu consider the idea of wiping out the city they were sailing towards, a wave of dread flowed through them. "This is...This is insane, Akainu can't do this" said a young navy officer named Tashigi, "I mean...I know Luffy's capture is important but there could be innocent people there!" The other officers and troops in the room sounded off, after she spoke; some siding with Tashigi...and others (albeit reluctantly) saying things like "the law is the law" or "we can't question the Admiral's will."
"Akainu may be our boss...but do we have to do everything he says" questioned Jango, "I mean...I have my own grudge against Straw Hat Luffy but he's taking his to a whole new level." In response to this, many officers began making the same claims Akainu had for a long time; that Luffy was a danger to the world. "Whether it's his ability to inspire others to his side or his supposed connection to the 'Will of D,' Luffy's power cannot go unchecked forever" Sengoku said while munching on a rice cracker, "something must be done."
Upon letting her superior officer's words sink in, something within Tashigi knew that he spoke the truth. But then, she remembered what Akainu's words from a moment ago; where he had no qualm in killing the innocent people's who may reside in the city they were sailing towards. When she brought this up to everyone else; they, too suddenly felt conflicted.
It was then that a figure cloaked in the shadow in the far end of the room suddenly spoke up. "It does not matter if Akainu is the Fleet Admiral" the figure said firmly, "he is having us sail into unknown territory, territory that appears beyond Marine jurisdiction and we are pursuing someone without a warrant for his arrest." After taking a moment to let this sink in, the other officers realized that the figure raised some valid criticisms.
"Akainu is clearly abusing his authority and it is high time we put an end to it...before things become unsavory" the figure said warily, "what say you, everyone?" Without delay, all the officers present sounded off with a loud "AYE" and immediately began discussing a strategy; depending on what might happen upon docking.
(Line Break)
Seconds later after Jazz's wish was granted, everyone instantly reappeared within the Zeruvian Coliseum. Naturally, all the newcomers were all left aghast; after suddenly disappearing and reappearing into thin air. But as startling as that was, many were utterly baffled by the many strange creatures looking down at them.
"CHRONICLES OF NARNIA, WHAT IS THIS PLACE" exclaimed Mr. Lancer, "what sort of...things are those up in the stands?!" Understandably so, many of the onlookers felt offended by the teacher's words; several of whom wasted no time in telling him so. "Sir...we are not mere 'things,' as you call us" grumbled the centaur prince, Valerious; "we are every bit as real as you and...if I may say so, we smell much more appealing as well."
At first, many wondered what or who the prince's comment was directed at. But then, as Mas and Menos passed by Dash, a pungent aroma suddenly filled their nostrils. "UGH! Santo cielo, Eso huele horrible" the twins cried with agony in their native Spanish, "cuando fue la ultima vez que limpiaste tu ropa?!"
Sadly, no one among the crowd seemed to understand them; with the exception of Paulina, who proceeded to whisper the translation into Dash's ear. "Why you little rats" he growled angrily, "I'm gonna bash both your heads in!" As the infuriated jock charged forward, the remainder of Titans East stood back and rolled their eyes at him; thinking to themselves "you'll be sorry."
Just as Dash came within arms reach of them, Mas and Menos clasped each others hands; which then caused sparks of electricity to surge between them. Then, in the blink of an eye; they suddenly started running circles around Dash and his crowd of "popular folk" (quite literally.) For what felt like ages, the twins ran around and around the teenagers; leaving them feeling quite dizzy overtime.
But then, Bumblebee gave a whistle and commanded them to "stop playin' around;" which they did. "You said you'd give us all some answers, Mr. Pointy-Ears" she said sternly while jabbing her finger into Thaylog's chest, "where are my friends?!" In spite of the situation, the elf king maintained his calm demeanor and waved his hand behind him; where everyone could see what looked like a group of young men lying unconscious on the floor.
At the same time, they also saw some others looking down at the young men; as if performing medical care. Instantly, Priyanka caught sight of Connie and rushed up to her side. Meanwhile, everyone else stood back and looked quite confused by what they were all looking at.
Okay...this is getting even weirder" Bumblebee muttered, "Speedy, go and see just what the heck is goin' on?" After giving his leader a salute, the young archer approached the bodies and began observing one of them closely. "Okay...this is weird" he murmured, "this one guy here looks like BB...but he's bigger, has a different outfit and his hair looks different."
With this statement, Prince Gabriel approached Speedy and assured him that the fellow before him was in fact Beast Boy. "How...How can that be" murmured another Titan named Jinx, "I just saw the dude, last week and I distinctly remember him having a purple and black suit on!" After letting out a nervous chuckle, Cyborg said that his new look (among many other things) had quite a story behind it.
"There will be time to discuss it later" Pearl exclaimed, "for now, we need to know...are the boys alright?" For a moment or so, not one of the people sitting next to the young heroes had said a word; which only made things all the grimmer. Feeling concerned, Priyanka knelt beside her daughter and asked what was happening.
At first, Connie neither said anything nor even acknowledged her presence; which made it seem as though she was ignoring her mother. But then; Connie's body suddenly tensed up, her head slumped slightly downward and everyone could see her hand gripping tightly at her skirt. Not long after, they suddenly heard the sounds of soft yet mournful sobs.
"Hey, hey...honey; it's okay" Doug Maheswaran said while hugging his daughter lightly, "we're here, there's no reason to be scared." After taking a moment to wipe her tears away, Connie looked over her shoulder and finally took notice of her family's presence. She also saw many other members of Beach City's citizens with them (like Mayor Nanafua, Mr. Smiley, Sadie and her band-mates and even her classmates from school, Patricia and Daniel.)
At first, Connie did everything she could to appear happy to see everyone. But due to the current situation, her distress proved too great to push aside and greeted everyone with a choking sob. "WHOA! Easy does it, Connie" Daniel cried in alarm, "what's got you so upset?"
Without saying a word, she turned her head back down towards Steven; who still appeared as still as stone. "Oh...this does not look good" Priyanka murmured fearfully, "if only I didn't leave my stethoscope at home." As if on cue; she shrieked out in alarm, as someone tossed a small stethoscope into her hands.
Priyanka looked ahead and saw who...or what it was that did it; a tiny reindeer wearing a hat, tiny clothes and appeared to be using medical tools. Now, any other individuals (like those standing behind Priyanka) would immediately feel confused/alarmed by such a sight. But after living amongst sentient alien rock people back home, the doctor learned to be more open about such things.
"Thank you, uh...Mr. Reindeer" she said in a hesitant yet respectful tone, "am I willing to guess you're examining the others here?" Alas, the wee deer offered no reply; for much like Connie, he was also fighting back his own tears. "Why's everyone crying...what exactly happened here" questioned Mr. Grey, "you all said you'd give us answers, if we followed you." Upon hearing this; another pointy-eared creature, much like King Thaylog, approached the man and said he would explain everything.
"To start with...I am Gabriel, Elf Prince of Overon" he stated, "the man standing with you is my father, King Thaylog and where we are now is..." Before the prince could continue, Dash immediately shouted out in disbelief and marched his way over to Gabriel. "Are you high right now...or are you just stupid" he asked offensively, "you're no 'elf prince,' you're just a kid who loves D&D cosplay!"
Not long after this, Paulina arrived at his side and proceeded to dub Gabriel's attire "the ugliest costume she'd ever seen." "I mean, those ears are totally fake" she grumbled, "I could just pull them off right now and they will..." Before Paulina could finish her sentence (or reach out for Gabriel's ears,) she suddenly felt someone's hand press up against her midriff.
She looked down and saw that it was the "elf prince's" hand, she also noticed that it seemed to be...glowing. "With all do respect, young lady...if you attempt to pull at my ears, there will be consequences" Gabriel said firmly, "that goes for the rest of you as well." Not long after the prince said this, a team of centaur soldiers began surrounding the crowd of outsiders; their spearheads pointing mere inches away from them.
"OKAY, OKAY! WE GET IT...all of this is real" Sadie called out frightfully, "just...please, tell us what happened with Steven and these other guys." After a few moments of silence, Gabriel nodded in acceptance and asked King Zaid to have his men stand down; which they did. Afterwards, he began to tell everyone about everything that transpired thus far.
He told them about how his family summoned each of the six lads from their home realms. He told them of the Contest of Champions, about all the feats they've achieved and of course, he told them of the tears in the dimensional barrier. "So...this is all real" Captain Faier asked feeling dumbfounded, "Artha Penn...and all these other boys...did all those things you said?"
With a broad smile upon his face, the Elf Prince nodded; as did the kings Thaylog and Zaid. "As for the tears in reality...well, that would be their doing" Prince Valerious said while gesturing at the fallen villains, "somehow, they broke through the barrier that separates Overon from each of your worlds...all to try and kill the champions in one fell swoop." As if on cue; one of the villains, namely Slade, slowly stumbled back into the arena.
As everyone recalled, Artha's attack sent the man flying out several miles into the distance. From the way Slade was moving to the fact that he was gripping at his face, everyone could tell that he was in a great deal of pain. "Villano" Mas and Menos cried in unison, "no te escaparás de nosotros, esta vez!"
With this declaration, the twins activated their super speed and rushed straight for Slade; binding him tightly with ropes. Once he was subdued, for the first time since crossing paths with him...every member of the Titans got to see Slade's true face. For years, they believed him to be some monster of a man...or something else.
Instead; they saw only an aged man (possibly in his late 60's) with snow-white hair, a full-faced beard and an eye-patch over his left eye. "This is what you look like, Slade" Cyborg asked in confusion, "funny...I thought you'd be younger." The rest of the Titans were just as surprised with this revelation, none more so than Robin; who had obsessed over learning his true face for years on end.
Yet, as he stood there; gazing upon the face of his and the team's greatest enemy...it all felt bittersweet to him. "Since the Titans formed, I hoped that we'd take you down" he murmured, "I prayed for the day we'd stop you...and learn who you are...but you look just like any other old bastard I've seen!" Upon hearing the former Boy Wonder make this statement, Gabriel approached him and proclaimed that Slade was no mere elderly man.
"You are quite right about that...whoever you are" said the villain in question in a sinister tone, "and soon, you'll see exactly what I am!" With that said, Slade suddenly started lurching and rolling his body about the sand. Straightaway, everyone realized that he was making an attempt to break free from the ropes
"Let the fool roll about, everyone" Thaylog said with a sly chuckle, "he won't be breaking free of his binds." Before anyone could question the king on his word, he gestured towards the stands; where everyone could see what looked like a group of wizards pointing the heads of their staves down at Slade. At the same time, everyone saw that the heads were also glowing brightly.
Meanwhile, Slade continued to roll about the sandy floor of the coliseum like a fool while trying to break free of his binds. "What...What is going on" he grumbled angrily, "these ropes are so tight, they feel like...like...chains?" The instant he said this, Slade looked down in confusion and saw the ropes around him suddenly change into steel chains.
Not only did this surprise the criminal in question but everyone else as well. But Gabriel urged everyone to not be distracted by such matters and get back to the task at hand. "As I was trying to say...the 'master criminal' you know simply as 'Slade' is actually Slade Wilson" the elf prince declared, "though, he is often more commonly known as...Deathstroke the Terminator." After letting the name sink in, Cyborg used his computer cybernetics to seek it out within the global database.
Originally, such an endeavor wouldn't be possible...but with the tears still being present (albeit slightly;) Cyborg could connect with the web rather well. "According to this, Deathstroke is the name of an expert mercenary/assassin" he explained, "says he took part in government experiments that granted him superhuman strength, intelligence, agility, healing...you name it." This news greatly sickened the mystical creatures and beings of Overon, who believed that human science seemed as vile as the darkest of mystic arts.
"Hey, now...you've got it all wrong, not all sciences are as evil as what made Slade who he is" Priyanka interjected, "my...associates and I practice what is known as medical science, which is something we use to help others who are injured or sick." Elf Queen Elbenor seconded the good doctor's words, proclaiming that it was those who experimented on Slade were the ones to blame; not the science that they practiced. "Says here, the group Slade went to were tryin' to make super soldiers" Cyborg stated, "people who could fight harder, run faster and think quicker than normal humans could."
For a brief moment, Robin almost believed that Slade's superiors actually succeeded in their desires; after looking back on all the times he had the Titans backed against the wall. Yet, at the same time; he also felt somewhat ashamed. For years, he believed Slade was a criminal mastermind on par with the likes of Joker or Lex Luthor.
But while he's proven to the Titans just how dangerous he can be, the idea that he was nothing more than a hired hand for the government felt rather...disheartening. "At least, I can take comfort in knowing that you were finally defeated, Slade" Robin growled, "and there won't be any chance of escape, this time." Rather than feel intimidated by the boy's words, Slade simply cackled and questioned how this "defeat" will feel different from their previous encounters.
As an immediate response to this, the mercenary was suddenly plucked off the ground by a white hand and hoisted up high into the air. There, he met with the angry eyes of one White Diamond, who gave a glare that would make even the bravest of men quiver. "You...You tried to hurt me, my friends and Steven" she growled, "I could very easily crush you, here and now...but not yet."
After White "accidentally" dropped Slade, several Elven guards proceeded to bind the other criminals in shackles...save one. While the other villains were being dealt with, the Hyperforce (sans Chiro) hurried over to the cloaked figure; who was lying face-down upon the sand. For a moment or so, he didn't move from his spot; which almost led the Monkeys to believe he might be dead.
"Wake up, bone bag" Sparx growled, "we've got a score to settle with you...quite a few of 'em, actually!" As the Monkey Team readied their weapons, the cloaked figure groaned softly and began to move. Slowly and carefully, he pushed himself up onto his knees and began to stand fully upright.
Once the figure was back on his feet, the Monkey Team took one look at him and gasped in shock. Instead of greeting the face of their enemy, Skeleton King; they saw only that of their creator...the Alchemist. "Ugh...What, w-what happened" murmured the strange man, "what is this place, how did I get here?"
As he looked around him, hoping that someone would speak up and provide an answer; the Alchemist's eyes soon fell down upon the Monkey Team. For what felt like ages, neither side hadn't spoken a word; it was as if time had stood still between them. Then, with tears of joy in her eyes; Nova gave a joyful cheer and leapt up into her creator's arms.
"I can't believe it's really you" she cried happily, "it's been so long since I've seen your face." The Alchemist smiled warmly at his little friend and nuzzled her lovingly, while also using his free hand to beckon the rest of the team towards him. "But...But this isn't possible" Gibson murmured, "we saw Paragon's beam strike you...how are you still alive?"
In response to this, Yellow explained that while in their fusion form; they harnessed a strong amount of the healing powers Steven possessed. "With this working alongside our other energies, we purged your Skeleton King of the dark power that corrupted him" Blue Diamond added, "restoring him back to the man you once knew." Though the Diamonds' words rang true, the Monkey Team still could not believe their eyes.
With their friend and creator now restored back to human form once more, the Skeleton King's evil was finally extinguished. But very quickly, the team realized this was no time to celebrate...not yet, at least; not while the six lads were still unconscious. With this in mind, Gibson rejoined the others in studying their vital signs.
For what felt like ages; everyone checked the lads' pulses, studied their heartbeats, searched for signs of severe injury and even tested their breathing in silence. Yet through it all, the end results were the same; inconclusive. "I...I just don't understand this" Priyanka murmured worriedly, "how did these boys get in such a state?"
At first, no one seemed to answer; mainly out of the fear that their "visitors" might not believe what they would say. But then; Gabriel explained how during one of the trials, the lads experienced a startling transformation. "With the aid of this newfound power, they made short work of these invaders" Thaylog said with a proud chuckle, "but...I fear that it also might have been too strong for even them to handle."
With this simple phrase, everyone felt an icy chill run up their spines; as their minds automatically assumed the worst. "You're kidding...y-you are kidding, right" Moordryd murmured uneasily, "are you trying to tell us that Stable Boy and his friends are...dead?" The mention of this simple yet horrifying word created a mixed response from those gathered in the arena.
Some like the lads' loved ones and the peoples of Overon gasped in horror, praying that Moordryd was making a joke. Others like the Mansons, the Casper High students and staff felt this was all a cruel scheme and then, there were the Gemfolk; who didn't quite understand the concept of life and death. "What are you guys talkin' about, exactly" questioned Spinel, "are you sayin' that Steven's...gone?"
Though none of them were 100% certain, Chopper and his fellow medical colleagues couldn't help but fear the worst. Thus, they answered the Gem maid's inquiry with simple nods of the head. Then, almost immediately; Dash Baxter scoffed loudly and tried to convince everyone that this was Danny's attempt at a prank.
"Don't believe a word of this crap, everybody" he stated, "Fenton's fine...look at him." Without pause, he picked up the broken handle of a spear and proceeded to touch Danny's body with it; hoping he might move. But after a few good pokes and prods, Danny didn't remained as still as the grave; which made everyone feel quite concerned.
"C'mon, Fen-Turd; you're making me look like an ass out here" the jock said through gritted teeth, "wake up...open your damn eyes and WAKE THE HELL UP!" Upon making this exclamation, Dash proceeded to slap the stick soundly across Danny's shoulder; hoping that would garner a response.
But unfortunately, this strike only caused his body to roll over till he was lying face-down on the sand. In response to this; Maddie, out of motherly concern for her son, slammed her elbow into the boy's chest and sent him across the floor. "GET AWAY FROM MY BABY BOY, YOU LITTLE PUNK" Maddie roared in anger while, "IF YOU OR ANY OF THOSE ASSHOLES FROM THAT SCHOOL OF YOURS TOUCHES HIM AGAIN, I'LL BLAST YOUR HEADS OFF!"
This outcry not only caused the Casper High students to feel offended but the teachers as well. "How dare you speak to us that way, Mrs. Fenton" exclaimed Principal Ishiyama, "such talk guarantees immediate expulsion for your son...if he comes to." This statement left everyone feeling utterly disgusted, none more so than the Shadowmanes.
"Madam...firstly, why punish Master Daniel for his mother's actions" questioned Queen Elbenor, "she was simply protecting him from that boy's boorish behavior." Before the principal could even respond, Tucker stepped forth and confessed that such behavior was rather common back amongst the school staff of Casper High. "Seriously, our school's so messed up and before I was even elected...so was the local government" he grumbled, "a 'Mass-Grounding' Act, a poorly supplied high school, a disgusting lunch menu...and teachers who don't even bat an eyelash whenever bullies mess with kids like Danny!"
To say that everyone was appalled by this news would be a gross understatement. Of course, Lancer and his fellow teachers were quick to deny these claims but no one seemed convinced by their defense. "I'm afraid the lad speaks the truth, Master Lancer" Gabriel said firmly, "my family and I have seen these instances for ourselves."
With that, the elf prince was quickly given what looked like a large gemstone; which led everyone to wonder what he planned on doing with it. "People of Amity Park...hear me" Gabriel called out through a rift leading into Danny's world, "I have hard evidence that not only shows that your educational administrators have misused/abused their authority...but have also neglected in ensuring the safety of your young...BEHOLD!"
Before anyone could stop the prince, he placed his hand upon the jewel and a series of images suddenly appeared over it; images that showed several instances of corruption and abuse within Amity Park. The parents gasped in horror, as they watched elder students freely assault the younger ones; while the teachers did little to stop it. The peoples of Overon grimaced at how viciously "lesser" ghost hunters (like Valerie Grey or the Guys in White) sought out to destroy the spirits utterly.
But much worse still; the children of Amity Park, young and old, recoiled at the moments their champion suffered grievous injuries in battle...and how little the people of their town wished him dead. "Such actions demand retribution" King Thaylog decreed, "same applies with all villains who seek to bring harm upon the champions!" No sooner had he said all this, everyone suddenly heard a loud uproar of vicious shouting.
All eyes turned towards the eastern side of the arena, where they saw scores of Marines rushing towards them. "Aw, shit...just what we need" Zoro grumbled mentally, "and Luffy's not even awake yet...looks like we'll have to fight them off ourselves." As if they were thinking the same thing, the other Straw Hats slowly took their battle stances; fearing that yet another fight was about to ensue.
But at the last moment, several dragons landed before the oncoming Navy horde and bellowed out a series of mighty roars. This alone startled the soldiers so greatly, they were prepared to turn tail and retreat...until they were met by a more imposing sight; Admiral Akainu. "I gave you no orders to retreat, maggots" he growled, "turn around and get in that arena!"
Almost immediately, one of the men brought the matter of the dragons to the admiral's attention. But despite the creatures' size and intimidating appearances, Akainu was undeterred. "All who stand in the way of Justice will die" he decreed, "man and beast alike."
With that statement, he raised his fist high and sent a large blast of molten lava toward one of the dragons. Naturally, being a creature that was born from fire; the attack did not alarm him. But it did provide enough of a distraction for Akainu's men to continue their charge.
"STOP THOSE SOLDIERS IMMEDIATELY" a green dragon shouted, "THEY'VE BROKEN THROUGH OUR BLOCKADE!" Upon hearing this warning, several guards stood their ground; fighting back as many Navy officers as they could. Not wishing to be left out, the Straw Hats quickly joined the fray.
Of course, their bodies were still quite sore from their earlier battles against the villains. As a result; despite their best efforts, Luffy's comrades could only hold them off for so long. The battle would've come to a tragic end for them...were it not for Akainu demanding his troops to cease their attack.
Upon hearing this, the marines quickly stand at attention; giving room for their commanding officer to step forward. While everyone else didn't quite know him as well as Luffy or his crew did; from his stature alone, everyone could sense a grim aura about him. Thus, the likes of the Crystal Gems and the Titans took their stand against the officers; blocking their way.
This came as a rather bothersome annoyance to Akainu, whose hands were giving off a light orange glow. "Look...I don't know what this place is, how we all got here or who the rest of you are" Akainu said softly, "but my men and I have a mission to complete...give us Straw Hat Luffy and no one will be hurt." Naturally, this "request" was immediately met with responses like "like hell we will" or "you'll have to fight us, if you want him."
This came as both an annoyance and an inconvenience to Akainu. "Perhaps I have not made myself clear" he murmured tensely, "hand Luffy over to me...or face the consequences." At first, no one offered up any replies; which seemed to anger Akainu even further.
But when he took a closer look at everyone's body language and facial expressions, it was clear as to what the strangers were doing; they were trying to hide something from him. "Stand aside, reveal Straw Hat to me at once" Akainu ordered, "refuse...and I will have to get rough!" The instant this threat was made, the man's hands suddenly turned into lava.
To prove to everyone that he wasn't bluffing, Akainu swung his left fist to the side; sending droplets of lava to fly towards the Titans. This in turn caused the team to leap away, revealing the fallen heroes behind them; Luffy in particular. At the same time, the marines also saw several others looking down at them with tears in their eyes.
While Akainu and his men couldn't tell what was happening; everyone else, on the other hand immediately assumed the worst and gasped in horror. "No...This can't be true" Starfire murmured fearfully, "our friends cannot be..." The princess couldn't bring herself to finish her train of thought, the idea sounded so terrible.
One by one, each of the lads' teams or comrades slowly walked to their sides; mentally praying that they would somehow, wake up. But as they drew closer and saw their unconscious forms, many instantly broke down with sorrow and wept for them. "Steven...Steven...Steven" Connie called out in a desperate whisper, "please, don't leave me again...you've gotta wake up."
Not long after this, others began making similarly desperate pleas to their fallen friends; with some choosing to act thusly in a more...aggressive manner. "C'mon you rubber-brained asshole, wake up" Sanji said through gritted teeth, "get up...GET UP AND OPEN YOUR EYES, YOU LOSER!" His emotions now becoming incredibly frantic, the poor chef suddenly started slamming his fists against Luffy's abdomen; believing it might "awaken him."
But after a few strikes, Nami rushed up and roughly pulled Sanji by the back of his collar before throwing him onto the ground. "Don't you touch him" she hissed angrily, "hasn't poor Luffy-kun suffered enough abuse already?!" After this was settled; Nami fell to her knees at Luffy's side, took hold of his hand and caressed it against her cheek.
"I...I'm sorry, Nami; I really am" Chopper murmured sadly, "but I really think he and the others might be...gone." With that simple statement; Nami, Connie, Sam, Jinmay, Kit, the Crystal Gems, Greg and even Raven could feel their hearts shatter to pieces. "No, Steven can't be gone; he just can't" Pearl gasped in horror, "no...NOOOOO!"
Within seconds, everyone swiftly slipped into a fit of sorrowful tears; even some of the Marines were utterly shocked by this. "Straw Hat...is dead, it can't believe it" Tashigi thought in shock, "I feel like I should be happy about this...but I'm not." As everyone continued to weep for the fallen, their sobs were suddenly broken by an unwelcomed sound; cruel laughter.
"ZEHAHAHAHA! Finally, that son of a bitch has bitten the dust" Blackbeard guffawed, "now, I can take the One Piece and rightfully become the King of the Pirates!" No sooner had he said this, Zoro sliced one of his katana across the pirate's chest; leaving a gruesome (yet not very deep) scar. "You won't touch one bit of my captain's treasure, asshole" he growled, "NONE OF YOU WILL!"
In response to this, Big Mom and Kaido proclaimed that they "deserved" the treasure more than Teach did. Meanwhile, Akainu was also silently relishing in Luffy's supposed death; loudly declaring an end to the Will of D and the "scourge" of Straw Hat Luffy. Needless to say, everyone who heard him was shocked and appalled by such words.
"You should be ashamed of yourself, Human...ALL OF YOU SHOULD" White Diamond roared, "these six boys risked their lives to save the fabric of reality itself...and you all feel happy that they might be dead?!" Not long after this was said, both sides swiftly erupted into a vicious argument over who was in the right and who was in the wrong. Meanwhile, Connie and the other ladies remained by the boys' sides; holding them closely with all their might.
"Please...Please, Garfield; don't leave me" Raven murmured, "there are too many things I haven't taken back or said to you, please...come back to me." At the same time, the others were making similar pleas either to the boys themselves or to whatever higher power could hear them. But after a while, nothing seemed to happen; which only made things feel all the grimmer to the heroes.
"Luffy...I swear to God; if you die on me, I...I will never forgive you" Nami said while holding back her tears, "please, come back to me; the crew needs you, the world needs you...I NEED YOU!" As Nami placed her face atop Luffy's belly and resumed crying, she suddenly heard a faint jingling from inside one of his pockets.
Her curiosities getting the better of her, Nami was moments away from taking what her captain was "hiding" from her...but she stopped herself almost immediately. "No...stealing from the dead is wrong" she whispered, "especially when it's...you're possibly dead friend." With the thought of Luffy being gone still lingering in her head, all Nami could do was stay by Luffy's side and hold him.
At the same time, the others remained by each of their heroes' sides as well; feeling just as forlorn as Nami. Finally succumbing to their grief, each one of them held their heroes close...and cried. Then, just when all seemed lost; Steven's body started to twitch slightly in Connie's embrace.
Seconds later, the lad's eyes scrunched up tight and he began to cough violently. This same phenomenon began to occur with each of the remaining lads as well. Then, as everyone watched each of them roll onto their sides; they wondered if the boys were feeling ill (or worse.) Just as the likes of Gibson and Chopper were prepared to check on them, they watched in horror as each of the lads suddenly started vomiting what looked like black bile.
Afterwards, they fell limp onto the floor with weary groans in their throats; appearing tired...but still relatively fine. Meanwhile, everyone could not help but stare with a morbid curiosity at the black substances that had been expelled from the lads' mouths. "How interesting...and yet, still rather disgusting" Gibson muttered in disgust, "I simply must study this strange substance, perhaps it's some sort of organic bile." With this thought in mind, the blue primate was mere seconds away from collecting but a small sample of the black substance...until he was stopped by a mystical aura that encased his entire form.
With a start, Gibson looked back over his shoulder and saw that it was Gabriel who summoned the aura; thanks to his Elven magic. "With all due respect, my friend; I must advise you to not approach that substance" he said firmly, "and that goes for the rest of you as well." Feeling understandably confused by the prince's tone, Chopper proceeded to question him on why he would prevent anyone from studying the black ooze; claiming the research could be beneficial.
"What your friends have just expunged from themselves is not something to trifle with, everyone...be certain of that" Queen Elbenor said firmly, "for that bile is actually a sort of dark essence." From here, King Thaylog took the floor and explained that the "bile" was actually a sort of liquidized form of negative emotion; which had been "poisoning" the Champions for most of their lives. After taking this information to heart and seeing just how much of the "bile" poured out from the lads' mouths, everyone suddenly felt a grim chill flow through them; as if amazed/terrified by just how much they had kept bottled up within their hearts.
But while this reveal was rather informative, they could not help but wonder if the lads would ever reawaken; especially after everything they've just witnessed. Then, all of a sudden; Beast Boy let out one final coughing fit before rubbing his hand along his brow sluggishly. Soon after that, the rest of the young Champions did the same thing before slowly opening their eyes and groaning in unison.
"Ugh...What's going on here" murmured Beast Boy painfully, "why are we lying on the ground like this...and why are you all looking at me like that?" For what felt like ages, no one among the Titans dared to speak a word; which made the young changeling feel all the more confused. "Uh...dudes, you're kinda weirding me out here" he said with a light chuckle, "you all look like you've seen a..."
Before Garfield could finish his statement, Starfire suddenly plucked him off the ground and held him close in a loving embrace. This same thing was happening to the other six lads as well. Lance tackled Artha to the sand with a strong bear hug while Beau nuzzled him. The Hyperforce and Jinmay surrounded Chiro in a multi-sided group hug.
Maddie, Jazz and Valerie all argued over who would get to hug Danny first; resulting in Dani stealing the first hug. The Crystal Gems and their human allies were beside themselves with joy at Steven's reawakening. As for Luffy, his crew had a rather mixed reaction.
The likes of Chopper, Usopp, Franky and Brook wasted no time in hugging him while sobbing loudly. Robin swiped away a few stray tears from her eyes while giggling, Zoro and Sanji chuckled heartily at their captain's return. As for Nami...well, she appeared to be utterly silent about the whole matter.
On the inside, she was leaping and bounding with joy; elated to see her captain alive again. But on the outside, she was mildly furious; mostly due to the amount of emotional stress the ordeal put everyone through. As Nami marched her way towards Luffy, the other Straw Hats saw the bitter look on her face and quickly dispersed.
"Hey...what's going on, guys" Luffy asked confusedly, "aren't you guys happy to..." Before he could finish his statement, the young rubber man suddenly felt a hard tap against his shoulder and turned around. There, he saw Nami; her eyes were cloaked in shadow and her body was twitching slightly.
"Oh, no...Nami, you're shivering" Luffy cried in alarm, "are you getting sick, do you want me to see if Chopper..." Just as he was about to check her forehead for a temperature, Nami suddenly slapped Luffy's hand away. He stared confusedly at her; wondering if he had don't something wrong, somehow.
That was when he heard her whispering things like "idiot," "moron" and "scare me half to death." "Uh...Nami, could you speak up a little" Luffy asked innocently, "I can't really understand you." That did it, seeing him suddenly rise up from the brink of death was taxing enough.
But after hearing Luffy ask her something in his usual naïve yet innocent tone, it finally broke Nami. "I can't believe you" she murmured softly, "I was...I WAS WORRIED SICK ABOUT YOU, YOU IDIOT!" The instant she started screaming, Nami proceeded to beat her fists against his chest.
Of course, this wasn't like her usual beatings; this felt how one punches at a pillow. In the end, it didn't really hurt Luffy...but seeing his beloved navigator cry certainly did. "Hey...easy, Nami; easy" Luffy said soothingly while hugging her close, "it's okay, I'm alright...don't cry." While still feeling somewhat upset; Nami pressed her face up against Luffy's chest, clenched her hands tightly at his coat and sobbed loudly.
This same thing was gong on for each of the boys but after a while, they happily welcomed the attention. "Friend Beast...I mean, Friend Garfield; you are alive" she said with glee, "we feared that the battle may have killed you and our friends." Much to the alien's confusion, Garfield's response to her statement was an odd blank stare; it was as if he didn't understand her.
"C'mon, Star; give him room to breathe a little" Cyborg said calmly, "the dude's had quite a day." The alien princess nodded in understanding, shared a quick kiss on her friend's cheek to express her joy at his return one final time and took a few steps away from him; all while tears slowly slid down her cheeks. Meanwhile, Garfield and the others wasted no time in asking everyone what was going on and why everyone appeared to be acting so strangely.
"Yeah...Did we win the trial, is the contest over" murmured Luffy inquisitively, "and...when did we all suddenly change outfits?" Upon hearing this question, the lads gazed at their new clothing and their changes in appearance with confused stares. "Okay...did one of you guys take me to a barber while I was asleep or somethin'" questioned Beast Boy, "I mean, I'm not complaining or anything...I just don't remember dressing like this when we came here."
There was a jolly laugh from almost everyone gathered, when they heard this inquiry; which seemed to leave the young changeling even more confused. "Do not worry, my friend; all will be explained" Gabriel assured, "but first...there are some important matters we must attend to." With that, he asked for King Zaid's guards to apprehend the villains; making certain to place mystically-enhanced binds around each of them.
"Bring the staff of Casper High and the Manson Parents along as well" Tucker said suddenly, "they have some things of their own to answer for." While it wasn't customary to follow anyone else but the king's orders; in honor of his title as mayor, the centaur guards still followed the lad's request. With that, they quickly apprehended the guilty parties and proceeded to escort them out of the arena.
Once that was done, the Elven and Centaur royals stood before the people and made a quick announcement. "Good people, the Contest of Champions is over and our young heroes have emerged victorious" King Thaylog decreed, "but before we can celebrate...justice must be served first." With that said, he asked for everyone to return back to King Zaid's palace with him and the champions; where the guilty parties would all be judged for their transgressions. "Before we do all that...can we wait a bit, please" Luffy groaned softly, "my body still feels a little sore and I'm really hungry."
As if on cue, the other champions echoed the same request; which caused many to let out a jolly chuckle. "of course, lads; you've more than earned the right" Zaid stated, "bring the champions to the healing chambers and have some platters of food prepared while they are being tended to." With that said, everyone began their trek back to the centaur king's palace; eager to help restore the champions to full health. "Well...looks like we got a bit of a walk ahead" Bumblebee stated, "anyone care to tell us how this all came about?"
As everyone started walking; Cyborg chuckled at his friend and fellow hero, placed a hand upon her shoulder and murmured "where do I even begin."
(First AN: Well...good news is our heroes have reawakened and the contest is now over. The bad news is...there's still the matter of the unwelcomed party crashers to deal with; namely, the villains and residents of our heroes' homes. What do you think the royals of Overon will do with them?
Will they be able to settle this business before the ball Gabriel promised? Tune in for the next chapter, to find out)
(Second AN: Sorry that it took so long to write this one. I was hoping to add the villains' court hearing/punishment at the end of this. But I wanted to add just a little more drama with the boys possibly being dead and with Team Phantom keeping certain people from their community in line. Rest assured, the next chapter won't be quite as long as this one was)
(Third AN: Rest assured, the villains won't be the only ones facing judgment in the next chapter. I've said this for years, while watching Danny Phantom on TV; the kind of stuff Lancer and the Casper High staff do is enough to get them fired...or worse.
Do you think Lancer, the other teachers or the Mansons will face the same punishment as the invading villains did...or would it be too much? Personally, I think it's rather appropriate)
(Fourth AN: The "bile" our heroes coughed up before waking up, as described by King Thaylog, was actually the essence of negative emotion; something that they've kept inside for far too long. By achieving mental, emotional and psychological balance within the Mindscape through the Tea Test; any and all negative baggage they've carried has been lifted. In other words, the likes of Steven won't be having any sort of emotional issues from here on out...at least, within the canon of this fic)
(Final AN: Even though it was never mentioned in the OG Titans cartoon. Imagine how shocked the Titans would be when they learn that Slade, their greatest enemy, isn't really a Luthor-level super-villain; he's just a hired grunt for political people. Granted, he does have his super-human abilities but he's still just a mercenary.
Who would've thought that a merc helped an interdimensional demon enslave the world, am I right?)
