AN: Sorry it's taken me so long guys, needed to take a bit of a break, but I'm back.

Lexa froze at the sound of the pained screams.

"He has a gun," a lady screamed. Lexa tried to place the voice but didn't recognize the person.

"Shut up!" A man shouted, followed by the sound of gunfire.

Without thinking about what she was doing, Lexa made a mad dash towards the sound of the chaos. All she could think about was the people who have helped her. Over the past couple of weeks, she'd come to consider them family. She jokingly called Dr. Hollstead, Uncle Will the other day.

"SHUT UP!" The gunman screamed, causing Lexa to be pulled from her thoughts. With a deep breath, Lexa quickened her pace towards the shouting. Her heart seemed to stop at the sight that laid before her. A tall gunman held a gun towards a doctor on the floor. The man kicked the doctor in the stomach, causing a small grunt from the doctor. Lexa's eyes stayed on the doctor on the ground, not wanting to take her eyes off of him. "Conor," Lexa mumbled under her breath.

"Please, please don't hurt us. Just let us go!" A lady begged, she clung her newborn baby to her chest.

"I SAID SHUT UP!" The gunman yelled, "you!." He turned his attention back to Conor, "you didn't save them. You didn't save them." He kicked Conor in the stomach, "you'll pay for what you did."

She wasn't sure if it was her nightmares or the hatred she was feeling for this man, she needed to do something before the man killed the guy she started seeing as a father. She clutched her fists, then ran at the man. She closed her eyes as her body slammed into the man. Everything happened so fast that she wasn't sure what was going on. One moment it felt like she hit a brick wall, the gun fired, then multiple shouts. She gritted her teeth in pain, her injured arm felt like it was on fire. A hand grabbed her good arm, pulling her to her feet. Unaware of who had grabbed her, Lexa tried went to kick the grabber only to see a very angry Dr. Hollsread.

"What in the world do you think you're doing?" Will demanded

Lexa ignored him, she needed to know what happened to Conor. She glanced over to where Connor was nealing on the ground, holding his stomach. April and Natalie stood next to him, with a hand on his shoulder. Feeling her eyes on him, Conor stared daggers into Lexa's soul. She quickly looked away, not wanting to see his accusing eyes. The gunman laid on the ground, with a police officer nealing on his back; the man wasn't moving.

"Lexa!" Will said, firmly. "We're leaving, now." He just about dragged her back down the hall towards her room. "You were told to stay in your room, I can't believe you would do something so foolish." Will ranted as he marched her into the room. "What do you think you were doing? Huh!"

"I. I just wanted to help." Tears spilled from her eyes, "I can't lose him." She whispered.

Will ran his hand over his face, trying to calm himself before speaking. "I know you want to help, but you're just a kid. When you're told to do something, we don't say it just to hear ourselves speak. There isn't always going to be someone around to watch you, we need to trust you to do what we say." He paused for a second, before continuing. "If you're going to be..." His voice trailed off at the sound of approaching footsteps. The two of them looked up at an irritated Connor.

"What the hell were you doing?" Connor growled, "you could have been killed. He could have shot you!" He advanced on Lexa, causing her to stumble back onto the bed. Without waiting for a reply, he grabbed Lexa by her good arm, yanking her up. As soon as she was on her feet, he landed two stinging swats to her backside. "We need to get something straight," he went out, ignoring both her's and Will's shocked expression. "Since you're going to be staying with me, I will be holding you responsible for your actions. I will not put up with you risking your life. If there's a man with a gun, you hide. Do I make myself clear?"

"Yes sir," Lexa whispered, more tears fell, she wanted nothing more than to crawl into bed and pretend this day never happened.

"I'll leave you two alone," Will sidestepped them, giving them the room.

Connor let out a low sigh before he could say anything else, Lexa flung herself at him, wrapping her arms around his waist.

"I don't want to lose you, I don't want you to get killed," she sobbed.

Connor stood frozen in place, unsure of how to respond. He awkwardly patted her on her back, "it's okay. Everything is going to be okay." What felt like forever, Connor gently moved Lexa away from him. "Come on, we're going to be late for our appointment." He laid his hand on her shoulder, "after the appointment, I thought we could go shopping to get you some things for your room."

Lexa glanced around the small hospital room, then back to Connor. "But, this room already has stuff."

Connor couldn't help but smile, "I mean your room at my apartment. After the appointment, you're going to be staying in my apartment." He waited for Lexa's reply, when he didn't get one his smile faded. "Don't you want to pick our your own bed? Or tv or even a desk?"

"Yes, but." Lexa's voice trailed off. "I don't need anything, I can just sleep on the couch."

Connor couldn't believe what he was hearing, the child wanted to sleep on the couch.

"I promise I won't be any trouble, I'll help with the house, I won't ask for anything. I won't cost much, I." She didn't want him to think she'd be to worth it. As it was, Connor had spent a lot of time making sure she was on the mend. What if he turned his back on her when he realized just how demanding a kid was to care for. Not that she would cause problems, but...

"Stop," Connor ran his hand over his face. The day was not turning out how he'd planned it to. "You're a child, you're going to have up's and downs. There will be good days and bad days. There will be times when you'll do something stupid. No matter what you do or say, I'll be there. I'll stand by your side to guide you down the right path." He paused for a second, then continued. "I promise you that I will care for your every need." I won't be my father. He thought to himself. In a way, this was his way of proving that he would do this better than what his father did. AFter his mother died he'd held a hated grudge against his father. He'd vowed that no matter what, he'd do everything in his power to give Lexa the childhood she desvered, the childhood that he'd missed out on. Connor laid his hand on her shoulder, "we'll make this work."
