"She prefers to be called Ghost-Spider and I'm on my way. No one is to talk to my client until I get there."
Skye answers the police, taking in a deep breath. Already moving to catch a taxi.
"Understood."
The officer replies before she ends the call. Somehow managing to wave down a taxi, Skye enters the backseat.
"The police station, and quickly please."
She tells the driver and leans back, keeping her eyes on the road outside of the car window, Skye starts to wonder how Gwen managed to get herself arrested. And she wonders if she wants to know at all. Seeing the police station growing closer, she starts to collect herself. The taxi comes to a stop in front of the station and Skye pays the driver. With a deep breath, Skye starts to walk up the stairs.
Pushing the doors open, she sees the collection of people in the front. Shaking her head, she heads for the front desk. Seeing the stressed woman sitting behind the desk, Skye can't help but to feel sorry for her.
"Hi, I'm looking for Officer Grey. They called me, I'm Skye."
"Skye? That Skye?"
She hears someone say behind her, turning around, Skye stars to smile when she sees who is talking.
"Gideon, I haven't seen your sorry face in a very long time. What are you doing here?"
Skye asks, moving towards the officer to give them a hug. They hug her back before releasing the hug.
"I called you here, I didn't expect the person I called to be the Skye however."
Gideon answer and Skye can fell how her eyes grows large in surprise. And seeing how the officer in front of her looks down, Skye realises something else is wrong.
"What happened?"
"News got out that we managed to get our hands on Ghost-Spider and well…"
They start to say, making Skye lower head, having a strong feeling she knows what this is about.
"Just take me to the room you have her in."
Skye tells Gideon and the officer nods their head and starts to lead Skye down the corridor. Looking around her, Skye tries to remember the way out of the station. Gideon soon comes to the stop in front of a door, taking in a new breath, Skye steels herself for what is behind the door. Seeing Gideon opening the door, her eyes lands on Ghost-Spider first, who has been placed behind a table. The last person she wants to see right now, standing in front of her.
"Captain, Ghost-Spider's contact is here."
Gideon informs and the man turns around to look at her, and Skye can see how his eyes grows large with surprise when they land on her.
"Skye?"
"Captain Stacy. I thought I made it clear that no one is allowed to talk to my client until I showed up."
Skye tells the man as she steps into the room, walking past Captain Stacy, Skye steps up to Ghost-Spider, placing a hand on her shoulder. Seeing that Ghost-Spider turns her head towards Skye, she gives her oldest friend a smile.
"Get out and wait for me."
Seeing Ghost-Spider nods her head before rising from the seat and leaving the room, only because she surprised both Captain Stacy and Gideon. With a deep breath, Skye turns around to look at Captain Stacy, seeing the anger in his eyes, Skye stands with her head held high.
"Ghost-Spider is under S.H.I.E.L.D protection. Any contact will go through me."
Skye informs Stacy and Gideon, and she can see the anger in Captain Stacy's eyes grow even more. Bracing herself for the anger, Skye wishes she called in backup.
"S.H.I.E.L.D is protecting that murderer? Do you even remember what she did, to you, to my Gwen?"
And there it is, Skye thinks and shakes her head.
"Ghost is innocent and is under S.H.I.E.L.D protection, if you have a complaint, you can take that up with Maria Hill. Now if you excuse me Captain Stacy, I need to make sure my clint is alright."
Skye informs the older man as she steps past him, only to stop beside Gideon.
"Considering the circumstances, it's good to see you again Gideon, don't hesitate to call now that you have my number."
Skye tells them before leaving the room, walking down the same way she walked, Skye soon finds herself outside where Ghost-Spider is waiting, leaning towards the wall. Shaking her head, Skye crosses her arms, lifting one eyebrow.
"How did this happen?"
She asks, and Ghost push herself from the wall to join her.
"I got a phone call, got a bit side-tracked and they got the best of me."
She replies and Skye rolls her eyes. She should have known. Smooth going there Gwen, she thinks. She's about to answer when her eyes lands on an angry looking Melinda, making Skye come to a stop. Ghost stopping beside her, and Skye can see that her friend is ready if needed.
"Stand down Ghost, it's just agent May."
Skye tells her, only to see how Ghost turn her attention towards Skye and even if her friend is wearing that mask, Skye knows her eyes have grown big in surprise.
"May as in?"
Ghost asks in a low voice and Skye nods her head. Seeing that Melinda now walks towards them, Skye takes a deep breath, placing a hand on Ghost's upper arm.
"Now, head home. And call Ria."
She orders, which makes Ghost take a step away from her.
"What! No!"
"Yes! You are the one that got arrested, not me, so you will call Ria and tell her what happened. I have other things I need to deal with. Don't go against me on this Ghost, please."
Skye tells her as Melinda stops in front of them. Seeing how Ghost looks for her and towards Melinda, she finally nods her head.
"Fine, I'll call her. At least I can handle Ria."
Ghost finally says, with a nod towards Skye and then to Melinda, she swings away, and Skye turns her attention towards Melinda.
"You followed me?"
She asks, not the question she wanted to ask first but it's the first one that come out.
"Coulson's order."
Melinda answered shortly and Skye should have known better. Of course, Coulson would do something like this, at least it's not Ward.
"Well, you can tell Coulson I didn't betray you all in the way he think I would. I didn't leak information to Miles that we are here, someone else did. I was called to come down and when the police call, it's for the best to answer the call, isn't it?"
Skye informs Melinda, sounding more hurt than she though she would. She can see a hint of conflict in Melinda's eyes, but the woman keeps silent. Crossing her arms, Skye waits.
"What was that about?"
Melinda asks, and Skye rolls her eyes.
"Doing my job, making sure a friend who is wrongly accused of murder is safe. Which includes getting her out of the police station if she gets arrested."
Skye informs as she starts to walk away from the police station, knowing fully well that Melinda didn't walk all this way, there is a SUV there somewhere. She can hear that Melinda is following her. Her eyes lands on one of the SUV's that belongs to 616 and she stands beside it. She can see that Melinda has more questions but at least she is keeping silent.
"Well, they have managed to arrest Miles."
Melinda informs making Skye look at her out of surprise, she didn't expect Melinda to tell her this information. Nodding her head, Skye is happy that she at least has an alibi to where she was when all of this went down. Melinda unlocks the SUV and Skye enters, getting ready for yet another long ride in silence.
Reaching the BUS, Coulson was there waiting for them, angry about what has been going down. Before Skye has a chance to tell him something, Melinda speaks up.
"She was called to the police station, I saw and heard it all. She wasn't close to Miles."
She informs Coulson, and Skye isn't the only one that looks at Melinda with surprise. It takes Coulson a few seconds to collect himself before he finally nods his head. Accepting the information, he is being given for now. But Skye knows he will want a much longer conversation later, and Melinda too. For now, the need to deal with Miles and since she wasn't involved with him trying to escape, Coulson isn't against her trying to help. And when she is being placed in front of Miles and the hacker looks at her with hate and anger, well there is nothing that can bind Skye to the Rising Tide member anymore.
They didn't reached Chan in time, at least they are a step closer to figuring out what Centipede is. And thanks to the information Skye managed to get out of Miles system, they have more to go on. Watching as Coulson sends Miles of the BUS, with a new shinny bracelet, Skye can only hope she won't end up with one herself. Seeing Coulson turn to look at her, she knows it's her turn.
"Office."
She says before Coulson has a chance to give the order, and seeing that Coulson nods his head, she turns and heads for his office, reaching for the second time that day, she finds herself once more standing in front of Coulson's desk, with him sitting behind it. In this moment, she tries to figure out if she should just come clean, but the look in his eyes, makes Skye question if he will even listen to her properly. Taking in a deep breath, she pulls out the memory card she hides away during their first mission together, placing it on Coulson's desk.
"What is this?"
"Everything I have."
"On us?"
"On me, why I started hacking, why I thought getting S.H.I.E.L.D's attention would do me good. I didn't expect another part of my past would decide to come knocking today."
She explains as Coulson takes the memory card and place it in his computer to read what is on it. Skye watches him closely as he reaches the redacted file that is Skye's past. A file that Coulson has seen completely. The one in front of him now, hiding out information he should know. But there is no change in his eyes or behaviour and Skye starts to wonder how much the T.A.H.I.T.I program took of his memory.
"You are friends with Ghost-Spider."
Coulson asks when he reaches that part and Skye nods her head.
"Yes, but it's no use you ask who is hiding under the mask, even if I knew, I wouldn't break the trust. We know she is innocent; we have seen what went down that day. The team decided that I would be the best one to handle if she were to be arrested, but I still need to report back to the team. This time around I made Ghost do it herself because agent May was waiting for me outside of the police station."
Skye informs, keeping her eyes locked on Coulson as she informs him. She can see that the older man in is going through everything he has learned and finally he lets out a sigh.
"You can leave."
He tells her and Skye nods her head. Knowing he will need time to think it all over, so does she. As she reaches his office door however, her phone starts to ring. Pulling it out, she sees that it's Maria and she answer, feeling Coulson's eyes on her.
"I take it Ghost contacted you."
Is the only thing Skye says as she answers the call, opening the door to Coulson's office and walks out.
"Yes, I'm surprised she called herself and not you."
"Well, it was for the best. We had an angry looking agent May in front of us so."
Skye replies in a low voice, heading for the bathroom so she can talk without anyone listening.
"And?"
"Her secret is safe, and neither Coulson nor Melinda has yet to figure out what is going on."
Skye informs, leaning her back towards the bathroom door, eyes closing.
"If they haven't figured out within the week, I will come and tell them myself what is going on."
Maria says, making Skye open her eyes.
"NO! Just, let me handle this. Everything will be fine, I just need to be more careful, that's all. And if you or Natasha can help with keeping a closer eye on Gwen for a while it would help out a lot more. And Captain Stacy too, I'm quite sure he hates me now since I helped the woman who killed his daughter's best friend."
Skye tells Maria with a deep sigh; how can once life take such a twist in no time?
"I will, just, be careful. Neither of us wants to see you hurt or heartbroken sweetheart."
Maria tells her, making Skye smile.
"I know, I'll talk to you later Ria."
She tells her sister before ending the call. She can't hide in the bathroom forever after all.
