Chapter 17: Rescuing Berk Part 1
Berk's farming fields were long and expansive, with much open land and wooden fences that divided the land. At a time, the whole fields once held prominent livestock from yaks, sheep and chickens…but now they were all empty, as all the livestock were kept inside under watch and not allowed out. None of the Outcasts or Berserkers wanted to deal with them at all, mainly as they didn't want to have that duty, or they were shorthanded at the moment. That and they hated dealing with rambunctious animals. Plus, Dagur figured that this area didn't need much guarding, as there was no one who would dare come this close to the village without being spotted, yet he did allow a small number of guards to watch over one of the larger barns…well just three Outcasts. They were instructed to guard the building intently and make sure no one got close to it let alone inside it.
That was easy for them, and also boring at the same time, as It was always just the three of them and no one else. Now and then one of them would return to the village to get rest and get fed, before resuming their post. They admit it was boring watching the same area over and over again, but it did get them away from Dagur's wrath, and they didn't have to do anything else strenuous. Which was good as this happens to be the easiest job at the moment, despite the downside. Currently the three were positioned in front of the barn, just milling about and chatting to one another, not really paying attention to their surroundings.
"Man, this is boring," the first Berserker groaned out, leaning against the barn door, arms folded.
"Better here than in the village, away from Dagur," the second one spoke up from his spot on the ground next to his comrade. "I hear he's going crazy because that child of Stoick is killing our men."
"I don't see how that is possible," the third one responded, standing in front of the two with folded arms. "Boss has known that kid for a while and he is nowhere near a threat to us. I mean look at how small he is."
"Then how do you explain the dead bodies?" the second Berserker responded back deadpanned. Before they spotted their comrades cutting across the fields, carrying the corpses of their comrades, which surprised them. Even more when they were informed who was behind it. "He's the only one left on Berk as everyone is accounted for."
The third Berserker sneered as both arms unfolded, "I think-"
"Blah!" the call of a sheep came from around the corner of the barn, catching their attention as the third Berserker frowned.
"Stupid livestock, they need to learn when to shut up," the third one grumbled upon hearing that.
"How did it get out?" the first Berserker asked in curiosity, remembering that they all were locked up.
"Don't know but I'll take care of it," the third one responded as his companions saw him walking about, around the bark and out of sight, all the while grumbling. "I'm going to put you in your place for-"
*Thump!*
"ACK!"
"You ok!" the second voice asked suddenly as he and his companion heard something loud, almost as if something heavy hit the ground. They both stood up and stepped away from the barn door, keeping their eyes locked onto the corner of the building. Whatever it was they were being cautious in their approach. Little did they know is that a long tail appeared from behind in their blind spots. Before they knew it, the tail snapped like a whip and whacked the two right in the head.
"OOF!" they both cried out as they went flying back into the barn door, heads smacking against the hard wood, as the helmets added to the impacts. They both fell to the ground, slumped over and unmoving. Things were quiet after that as a few seconds passed before two figures came out from the opposite end of the barn, one of them relieved while the other Smirking.
"Way to go Hookfang!" Snotlout cheered out as he looked up, seeing his dragon perched on top of the barn.
"Shh! You're too loud!" Fishlegs commented, as he looked around worriedly, trying to see if anyone heard them before he hurried to the other side and peered around. He could see the third guard, flat on the floor in a small crater of sorts. Meantlug standing atop of him. "Good work girl."
Snotlout came up to his companion, rolling his eyes, "Believe me, your dragon made a much louder noise than me, I'm pretty sure if we get caught, it's your fault."
"Me!? How can you blame it on me!?" Fishlegs turned around and looked back at the burly teen. "Your voice isn't helping things either."
Snotlout just rolled his eyes at the comment as he went back to the barn door, "Look around, you can't see anyone for miles, we're good." He then proceeded to pull the two knocked out guards away from the door, clearing the entrance.
"Either way we should still be quiet," Fishlegs came over and helped out, making the job go by faster, by dragging them to the far side of the barn. Once it was cleared both dragons joined the two as Snotlout reached for the doors. "Well…lets see if they were telling the truth."
"They better be," the burly teen responded as he pulled on the doors, they came open easily as the sun flooded the inside with light. All four of them looked inside, scanning around before their eyes raised and then started to smile. Looks like the information they got was right as they saw all of the forge's weapons lined up against the walls of the barn, some of them stuffed into barrels and hanging on the walls. Swords, daggers, axes, spears, everything they needed. They looked untouched and in battle ready condition. "Guess that information was true," Snotlout smirked as he walked in.
"Now comes the hard part," Fishlegs responded hesitantly as he entered as well.
"I know but grab whatever you can," Snotlout said as he looked around once more, and spotted some large burlap sacks resting on some hay bales. Smiling he moved over and grabbed one before proceeding to fill it with some of the weapons…which didn't go unnoticed.
"Are you sure that will hold? Aren't you worried that the blades will slice through the material?" Fishlegs questioned his friend's choice of transporting the weapons.
"Worry about how you're going to do it," the burly teen said as he grabbed a couple of short swords and placed them inside the bag.
"Alright, but I warned you," Fishlegs sighed as he instead found an empty barrel and decided to use that to aid him. Grabbing a couple of axes, swords and some maces, he started to fill the barrel up as much as he could carry. When filled up after a few minutes, he lifted the heavy barrel up and took it outside, Snotlout not that far behind but he carried two large sacks of weapons.
"Not that much weapons but I think this is all we can get," Snotlout responded as he placed his load down next to his dragon.
"Yeah, don't want to weigh down the dragons," Fishlegs responded as he did the same next to Meatlug. Yet, he looked back at the barn and saw the down Berserkers. "What about them?"
"Not much we can do about them," Snotlout responded as he looked back, but then spotted some more rope inside the barn, instantly thinking of something. "Drag them inside, best at least make sure they aren't lying about free."
"Oh, I see," Fishlegs nodded as he followed. Both of them proceeding to grab one each and started to drag them into the barn, the first part of their task completed as they would need to go and do the second part, which would be the hardest.
On the other side of Berk, far from the village, is where the Dragon Academy was. From a distance things look normal, yet if one got closer to it they would be able to hear many roars and banging of metal. In the center of the Academy's large cage dome many dragons could be seen trapped with, all of them trying to get free from their imprisonment. Mostly all of Berk's Dragons could be seen trapped inside, some with wraps tied around their mouths to stop their flames, the others trapped in the cells within the dome. Even the smaller dragons were locked up so they couldn't fly through the holes in the caged dome. The Dragons weren't happy with their imprisonment an showed it by ramming the metal and stone, trying to get free, much to their captor's displeasure.
"Shut up!" one Outcast shouted, not able to stand the sound. He is standing above the dome and looking down at the agitated lizards. At one point the Outcasts would be a bit worried shouting at agitated dragons but seeing them all contained like they are now diminished that fear.
"I still wouldn't do that if I were you," Another Outcast warned his companion as he walked up to him. "They may still be restrained but we have to deal with them like this."
"Shouting at them is the only thing I can do to deal with their noise," the first one rolled his eyes as he walked away, teeth gritting from hearing another captivated roar. Unlike with the farmland there were at least five Outcasts guarding the dragons. Two of them standing down by the gate that would lead inside the academy while the other three just walked around the top part, just looking around and being bored out of their minds. Despite this they took their jobs seriously as they guarded the main switches, which would be used to raise the dome. Something they weren't going to let happen as they continued their work.
A little bit away from there is a wooden bridge that wrapped around the mountain on which the academy was built on. Peaking around the corner of the rock are two other individuals who were spying on the Outcasts, which happens to be the Twins. They were focusing on their enemies intently, studying their movements, or in actuality, trying to see if there would be a perfect opening for them to move in.
"Can you see the switch?" Tuffnut asked his sister.
"No, not from this angle," Ruff responded, her head above her brother's as she kept moving her head out more for a better view. "This isn't working, we need a better look."
"Hmm…I got an idea," Tuffnut smiled as he pulled back, prompting his siter to do the same. They both walked back a bit for good measure, looking at each other. Barf and Belch standing a few feet away, looking at their riders in question. They had to keep low when approaching the academy so no one could spot them. Thankfully luck was on their side as they managed to slip in and remain undetected. "How about I just walk up in there just like I'm one of them. It happened once before so I'm sure I can do it again."
"Idiot," Ruff smacked her brother's helmet. Remember when her brother pretended to be a Berserker when trying to save the Skrill. It worked but she knew things turned south afterwards. "I know for a fact that Dagur would have made sure to have given our descriptions. So, it won't work this time."
"You know it was worth suggesting," the male twin rubbed his head from the smack. "Besides at least I came up with one idea, do you have any?"
"Not yet but-"
"Ha! Meaning I'm beating you!" Tuff pointed at his sister in triumph.
"As if, if anyone can come up with a better plan it'll be me," Ruffnut responded back with narrow eyes, the main subject at hand temporarily forgotten. Barf and Belch saw their riders getting into their usual argument and decided to intervene before they got them all caught with their noise. They moved forward and placed their heads between the two, pushing them back to keep them separated. Each twin fighting against their dragon head to get to the other, voices slowly raising. It was then the Zippleback snapped at the two, stopping their argument by making them wince.
Thankfully they seemed to understand what they were saying as their argument stopped. "Great you almost gave us away," Tuff said.
"Me, that was you," Ruff responded but stopped as their dragons snapped again. "Fine, back to the main problem, we have to get closer."
"Fine," Tuff grumbled, but then heard another shout. This prompted him to walk back and peeked around the corner. Looking forward, his eyes rose upon spotting the Outcasts shouting at the dragons as they were making another ruckus….their backs to the Twin's direction and not pay mind to anywhere else. "Hey, they aren't paying attention."
"Really?" Ruff joined in and raised her eyes upon seeing that. She heard the Dragon's roars once more as a thought came to mind. "Hey…if we could rile the dragons up some then everyone will be focused on them and we can sneak over."
"Yeah, yeah, that's good…but how do we do that?" Tuff responded back, rubbing his chin in thought. How could they do something like that if they weren't able to get in close enough? Both eyes wandered about before they locked onto the dome, and the chain that held it. Both eyes followed it up at the rocky mountain in which held it in place. A smile soon crawled onto his face as a thought came to mind, "Hey sis…want to see how annoyed dragons can get?"
Ruffnut looked down at her brother, seeing a smirk on his face, and almost as if reading his mind. Prompting her to smile back and nod, "I'm quite curious now."
"Are you sure about this?" Astrid asked Hiccup in concern. The two of them were currently riding on the back of Stormfly. The dragon sailing through the air and keeping low to the ocean surface, staying down below, keeping next to the rocky wall on which the island was formed on. They were able to partially feel the mist from the ocean hitting them, proving a soothing sensation.
"I'm sure," the teen nodded firmly, as he held onto Astrid's waist, sitting behind her on the Nadder. "If all goes according to plan, then Dagur won't have any leverage against us, and we can retake our home."
"Still…Hiccup I'm worried about you doing this on your own…I mean I understand the fact of not wanting to face your dad right now, but I think it would be better if I can help you," Astrid protested, still trying to instill some reason. After Hiccup and Snotlout came back from the outside, she saw he had a much positive attitude, and couldn't believe Snotlout actually managed to help him. It was a good sign as Hiccup had no problem going over the plan again before they set out, telling them all to remain low when approaching so they can't be spotted.
"No Astrid, it's best this way…I've told you why already,' Hiccup responded calmly, as a small silence took over.
Astrid didn't say more, but instead nodded in response. She knew that Hiccup is right in this case, and she couldn't remain with him. She needed to free Stoick, yet Hiccup couldn't be there as just the mere sight of the chief could make him inoperable. They need Hiccup functioning right now and seeing Stoick could ruin it. So, as much as it pained the blond, she knew that he is right in this sense, and had to go with it. Even if it meant separating from one another. She looked forward and saw that they were nearing their designated area, "Ok Stormfly, nice and stealthy."
The Dragon squawked as she then flapped her wings more, rising up towards the edge of the cliffside, eyes forward and trying to be as quiet as possible. Thankfully they emerged behind one of the storage buildings, which was large enough to cover the Nadder and be kept from sight. Once she landed both teens hopped off and crept to one of the building's sides, peering out for a better look. Scanning around they found the street in front of them empty, much to their relief. They then switched to the other side of the building and peered out, spotting a building down a ways, which had a couple of guards standing in front of it.
"Ok, there's the jails, that's where you and Stormfly go," Hiccup pointed out as he then looked back in the opposite direction, eyes peering out for the food storage, which is near the Great Hall. "And I see where I need to go…should be easy getting close."
"Alright," Astrid nodded, as her nerves started to flare up. Not because of doubt in the plan, but because this is where they would have to separate and couldn't quell the concern that is hammering away at her. "Are you going to be ok?"
He turned back and nodded, locking eyes with her, "Yeah…I'll be ok. I've snuck through the village many times; this shouldn't be anything different."
She nodded and things were silent took over once more, the severity of the situation permeating in the air and creating a bit of tension. Astrid then locked eyes once more with her friend, something coming to mind as she had to say this. "Hiccup…I…I want just want you to know something."
"What?" He responded in curiosity, turning to give her his attention.
"No matter what happens, even for a good outcome…I want you to know that you're still the leader of the Dragon Riders. You're stronger than anyone here, out of all of us…I know I don't know what you truly have been through, but I know you can get through this…You say you're broken…but even broken things can be put back together. You're way stronger than you give yourself credit for, and you're still the same Hiccup we all know and love. When this is all over with…you can rely on us, you don't have to endure this alone, as we'll help you from falling," Astrid stated, baring out everything she knew dear. She was being truthful in her words and believed that Hiccup can still be the same person he always has been. She just wanted him to believe in himself and allow them to help him realize this.
Hiccup stood there, silent as her words cemented themselves in his mind, not sure what to say at first, nor if he could. To be honest he was surprised at what she said, instilling confidence within himself. Something he needed out of all this. Something was telling him that maybe, just maybe he wasn't fall down in the pit he found himself in…but part of him is convinced that he wouldn't be the same in any regards. It was a wonder how he was able to keep things together especially after the brutal interrogation he had to do. It was something unlike him, and it made him nearly sick doing so as all it did remind him of all death he caused. Still, why did her words fill him with some hope? Did…Did he really think that things could go back to the way they were before? Could he function normally especially after all he had done…after seeing all those faces, and the dreams? He wasn't sure about this, nor thought it could be possible, but Hiccup is known for doing the impossible at this point, so why can't this be an exception as well?
"I…Thanks Astrid, it helps…but lets just wait and see what happens after all this," That's all he could say, not fully sure if there was a right answer for this.
"I…understand," Astrid nodded, as that wasn't the answer she was hoping for, but had to take it. Even though she knew what he said is true. They would only know the true scope of things after all this was done with. "Good Luck Dragon boy."
"You too…and…give my best to my dad," Hiccup responded and with that took another peak around the building before running off, leaving Astrid alone with Stormfly. The blond Viking stood there for a few moments, part of her still fearing for her friend and hoping he would be ok.
"Come on girl, lets go," Astrid said to her dragon as she turned the opposite way and headed out, being careful and hurrying to the jails. She wasn't sure why this part of the village was deserted but it helped her big time with approaching the jail. Her eyes were locked onto the guards that stood outside, but they weren't even looking her way, which made it easier for her. Still, she tried and keep low and quiet as she didn't want to alert them and lose their element of surprise. Thankfully, things were going according to plan as the both of them managed to get to the building undetected. Thankfully the building itself was large enough so Stormfly could be concealed by it, also she didn't leave any claw marks in the dirt. Another plus is that it happens to put some distance between themselves and the guards as they walked around to the back.
Her pace slowed down as both eyes looked up and saw the bars of the window on one of the walls. Turning back, she held her hand out, causing her dragon to settle down and be silent. Looking back around at her surroundings, she made sure they were truly alone before carefully speaking, "Chief…Chief!"
Her words did the trick as movement could be heard within before footsteps approached the bars, "Who's there?"
"Chief it's me," Astrid called out as relief washed over her upon seeing Stoick's face appear at the bars, he looked down at him as both eyes widen.
"Astrid!?" shock and relief mixed in his voice upon seeing her. He had no idea where she came from, but it was also a good sign that no commotion could be heard at all. "What are you doing here? Wait scratch that, Is it just you?"
"No, the others are around, and we're enacting a plan to save Berk," Astrid responded, relived to see that things were going alright for the time being.
"Where's Hiccup?!" Stoick then asked, as immediate concern for his son's wellbeing swelled up. If the Riders are here, then chances are they managed to find Hiccup…unless they didn't…but yet they had to as they wouldn't know what is happening within the town.
"He's…" Astrid started to say but the words got caught in her throat. She wasn't sure if she should tell him what is going on, but as she looked into the chief's eyes, she could see the worry in them. Being locked up in here without knowing what is going on could make him think about anything grim. Besides, Hiccup never did tell her not to tell him how or what he's doing, so it's best to ease his fears…that is what he's doing could worry him more. "He's trying to free Toothless."
"What!?" He said in a low, yet loud voice. He can't believe what he heard, for the longest time he worried about his son and hoped he was safe, hiding somewhere…yet those thoughts weren't happening at all. He can remember how his son was like when they last talked, how shaken up he was and how he needed him. All that from killing one person. Then later on hearing that he killed more, that could really mess with his son big time, and now here he was back in the village going for his dragon. He has no idea of the boy's state of mind nor how it's affecting him. Nothing but concern swelled up now as he thought of this, "He shouldn't be here, at least not alone."
"He was adamant about it and wouldn't take no for an answer," Astrid responded, telling him the half-truth. The part about Hiccup breaking down if he saw his dad was omitted as she thought it wouldn't be a good idea mentioning it. A battle would be happening soon enough, and Stoick needed to have a clear head if he is going to take part in it. It was selfish of her doing it, but she thought that would be something Hiccup would want.
Stoick sighed deeply after hearing that, "Sounds just like him, he's too stubborn for his own good…my fault actually for passing that onto him."
Astrid couldn't help but smirk upon hearing that, she knew the chief was very stubborn at times and it was funny how it mirrored right into Hiccup as well. Either way she could reminisce about things later, "Stand back."
Heeding her words, the chief took a few steps back, after seeing her motion to Stormfly. The Nadder then let out a constant blast of magnesium, which hit the stone wall like a welding torch. A few seconds passed and the stone started to disintegrate, making an ever-expanding opening for Stoick to slip through. Thankfully, the rock formation didn't collapse, as the noise level remained quiet. After a few more seconds of this Astrid motioned for it to stop, which it did. Stoick had to get down low to be able to crawl out of the cell, sighing blissfully as he is outside, and feeling the wind on his face.
"Feelings good being out," he smiled once he managed to stand up straight. "Thank you."
"No problem, now we just have to wait," Astrid then said, giving her dragon a few pets.
"Wait for what?" Stoick looked at her questioningly.
Meanwhile Hiccup managed to stay out of sight as he hides behind some of the houses, sneaking past anyone who got in his way. Thankfully, the teen didn't come across anyone so far, which was good in his opinion…but also bad as he had no idea where anyone else could be. Still, he didn't look a gift horse in the mouth as he just took it as a sign of Odin helping him. He covered a small distance and now a tricky part has come up. Looking out from behind one of the homes, he spotted a wooden ramp, which would lead to the village square, and then the food storehouse. Looking around further at the ramp, he didn't hear or see anything, giving him an indication that he's in the clear. Still, he wanted a bit longer just to be sure, anyone could come down, or up, it out of surprise, leaving the teen nowhere to run if he got spotted.
Soon enough he deemed it safe enough, so he ran out for the ramp, yet when he got on, he needed to be careful as his prosthetic made a louder thump than needed. This was tricky as he also needed to be quick as this ramp is out in the open and if anyone looked his way he could be spotted. Looking no one could be seen, nor could he be heard as much, so he took that as a good sigh. Hugging the cliff wall Hiccup then peeked over the ledge once he was high enough and could see the village square. He could see a few more Berserkers around the area…patrolling, being stationary or going to the forest. Great, just great. Still, they weren't paying attention to the food storage, plus there were some more homes that lined alongside it, so they could give him cover. Still, he couldn't help but lock onto the food storehouse, linger on it for a bit.
"Strange…last time I was here…I was so close to Toothless…if only I had known…better now than never," he said to himself as he ran for the set of houses, diving underneath them. Freezing for a moment he listened out but heard nothing. Sighing in relief he kept low and crawled his way across, getting closer and closer to the storehouse. Once he got through and was at the end he exited from underneath, thankfully some barrels were placed at the exit, providing cover. He was still crouched as he approached the barrels and peered over. He looked around and could still see the Berserkers and Outcasts patrolling around but they weren't looking around in his direction.
Sighing in relief Hiccup looked at the Storehouse, which was a few yards away. He would need to sprint, but the support pillars could cover him if he made it. Looking back at the square he took count of where the enemy was looked and waited for them to turn their backs to him. Once that was done, he immediately sprinted for the next building, keeping his eyes straight but ears open for anything. Thankfully, he made it to the building in mere seconds, pressing himself against the pillar, panting some and relieved he wasn't caught. Looking around again he made sure they weren't looking and hurried for the front doors. Being as quick as possible he opened one of the doors enough for him to slip through and closed it. Blowing a huge sigh of relief as he didn't hear anything. He made it and wasn't spotted.
"MMMMmmp!" a muffled sound could be heard right behind him.
Hiccup quickly turned around and both eyes widen, and heart nearly jumped out of his chest as his eyes locked onto a black mass within the building. "Toothless!" the teen cried out as he saw his dragon before him.
"You're alive!" the Dragon tried to say, but with the muzzle on it came as a muffle. All of a sudden, he felt his rider's arms wrap around him as the teen closed the distance and engulfing him in an embrace. The Night Furry nuzzling the human as he's so happy to see him. "I was so worried!"
Hiccup couldn't help but shed a few tears as he held his dragon, fearing if he let go then he would be separated from him again. His heart is practically soaring as he is reunited with his best friend, just seeing him still breathing was enough to lift a huge weight off his shoulders as his earlier fears were quickly quelled by finding his dragon. Having his arms wrapped around the scaly flesh more than cemented it was real, and not a cruel trick. He tried speaking but a small sob snuck its way into him.
"You….You have no idea…how happy I am to see you bud," Hiccup's voice nearly came out as hoarse as he spoke, trying to reel in his emotions. "I thought Dagur may have killed you."
"He hasn't, but he is really eager to…" Toothless tried to coo and comfort his rider more, able to feel all the sorrow in him. He could sense his rider has gone through a lot and really did need him, and he tried to do that…that is until he realized the situation at hand and tried making sounds to alert his rider, as well as pulling at the chains that held him, jangling the metal. "You need to free me so we can get out of here! If you are found, then it's going to be bad for us all!"
"Huh?" Hiccup pulled back, and it was then he finally saw his Dragon bound, making him remember why he is here. As much as he wanted to continue this, he needed to free him. "Sorry bud, give me a moment." Hiccup then reached up at the muzzle, trying to pull it off. If he can remove it, then Toothless can shoot the chains off and he can ride him out. Yet, it's easier said than done as the teen is struggling, grunting as it's barely budging.
Yet stopped as the room was suddenly engulfed in light.
"Found you!" a familiar voice is heard, causing the teen to stop.
"Dagur!" Hiccup turned around and indeed saw the Berserker chief standing before him, doors wide open and exposing him…behind him were many Berserkers and Outcasts, all of them smirking as they had him cornered. Hiccup's hands trembled and heart beating rapidly as he wasn't supposed to get caught. No, why now?
The Berserker chief smirked as he locked eyes with Berk's heir, stepping in and looking as smug as ever. "Decided to come back, eh? Big mistake, brother…now I got you right where I want you…meaning I can finally kill the Night Fury."
"You're not harming him Dagur, I won't allow it!" Hiccup stood in front of his dragon, pulling out his shield, but hesitated when it came to his knife. This was the only move he could do, wanting to protect his dragon above all else, despite being outnumbered and cornered.
"You think you can stop me Hiccup?" Dagur looked amused at the defense the teen was putting up, but in reality, he's being cautious. After all the reports he have been hearing, Hiccup has turned into a dangerous person, and he felt like he should be watching out. Despite his lanky form he is still full of surprises, deadly ones to be exact. "You've been a thorn in my side ever since this siege has begun but not anymore. There's nowhere to run, hide, or any way for you to get out of this…so I strongly advise you Hiccup to surrender now, or you will die!"
Hiccup stood his ground yet flinched at what was said. He wasn't sure what was going on, and where his friends were, but right now he's on his own. He's cornered and now needed to protect his dragon, but how? He can't fight Dagur, that's for sure, he would be slaughtered easily…would he? Hiccup wasn't sure, after that fight with Sten he managed to get creative and win…but that was by a stroke of luck. He didn't think he would get a second chance at that, especially as he had one of their green bottles before but not now. Still, as he looked back at Toothless, he could see his dragons concerned eyes on him.
"Leave me please, I don't want you to get killed for me!" The dragon pleaded, wanting his rider to save himself. The last thing he wanted was to see his rider die as he could do nothing about it.
Hiccup could see the distress on Toothless' face, almost knowing what he was thinking, but there was no way he was going to leave. He would never do that, not after finally finding him. He looked back at Dagur, stilling himself and putting up a brave face. "No chance…if you want to get to my Dragon…you're going to need to go through me." Right after those words left his mouth a small, tensioned silence filled the area as Dagur didn't respond, all the Berserkers and Outcasts looked at their leader, curious at how he would respond, and the lack of one made them worry. This worried everyone as anything could be swarming up in his mind, an unpredictable Dagur is a very dangerous one.
That is until a laugh could be heard.
Dagur reared his head back and let out an amused laugh, one that was near hysteria, something they have seen before but also knew it wasn't good…for Berk's heir at least. Still, the laughed creeped them out but tried not to show it as they watched him keep it up for a while, only stopping when he needed to breath and to wipe the tears away.
"How unfortunate…for you Hiccup," Dagur then unsheathed his sword, smiling smugly. "I'm going to enjoy this."
Hiccup's breathing increased as he held the shield up, readying himself for the incoming attack that was to come. This was it this was his last stand….that is until something unexpected happened, something that many would consider a Gift from Odin himself, but to Hiccup, he considered it Perfect time, as multiple screams, shouts…and roars could be heard outside.
"Dragon Attack!"
A/N: Hope you like. Talk about a cliffhanger to leave it on, eh? Well finally after so long Hiccup got reunited with Toothless, except the reunion is bitter sweet as he has to deal with Dagur, but luckily he is getting some help. The second part of this story will be action packed, and it will be a bit longer than before. So be on the look out for it. I thank you all who stuck by so far, it's really appreciated. Till next time.
