Chapter 2

Mikasa

The gates opened wide as we began our expedition, the horses beginning their trot as they rush out of the walls. Our expedition began, and we broke into formation not long after the gate was confirmed to be closed. I took command of my squad, and we took off in a northeast direction, not long after squad one took off.

There were ten squads, and I was leading squad 2. We communicated using hand signals, but we didn't have any problems until we hit the forest. As soon as we crossed the line, an abnormal dashed on all fours through us, mouth wide open. Most of us say it and were able to avoid its attack, but it quickly scooped up one of the rookies. We quickly changed to ODM now that we were in better positioning. Now moving through the sky, the titan became confused and we quickly moved into attack position.

"Rox, Sumi, cross position!" I yelled at some of them with a bit of hesitance the two of them swooped by each other and cut down on the Titansnape almost perfectly in sync. with the threat avoided, we continued forward, but we couldn't use our horses anymore because we left them back at the forest line.

As we moved from tree to tree, I fought a glimpse of something or someone. It was moving through the trees, using one of our cloaks, but it couldn't possibly be one of us, it wasn't in our formation and they couldn't possibly be from another regiment, for they wouldn't be this close to us, not for a bit anyway.

"Sam, someone might be following us. I'm putting you in charge" I said to one of our younger veterans. I then dashed out of formation, trailing the person. They quickly noticed me and began to head deeper into the woods, so I dashed after.

They were quickly speeding up, making it harder for me to keep track of them. I followed them through the trees, barely able to keep track of them, but then they suddenly stopped on a tree branch, so I hooked to the one next to them, drawing my swords in case they attack.

"Who are you, and why are you following us!?" I shrieked at them, but they didn't respond. they stood on the branch, wearing what looked like old scout regiment clothes and one of our cloaks, yet their face was completely covered.

"I said, who are you!?" I repeated myself, impatiently waiting for a response. They took their arms out of the cloak and pointed in the direction of my regiment.

Annoyed with how they were acting I decided I would take their hood off myself to see who they were, so I hooked them to the tree they were standing on and began my assault.

I dashed forward, my hand out to grab their hood off but they quickly moved out of the direction of my attack.

I then dashed again, but this time to the branch they were standing on to attack them. I landed and repeated one last time,

"Show me who you are now!" There was a bit of silence but they did take off their hood. There I saw a man, rugged and dirty but something was familiar about them.

I looked deep into their eyes and my entire childhood felt like it just slapped me in my face until it zeroed in on one person; Eren.

"...Eren? Y-your alive?" I stuttered. I stood looking at my friend alive and well, out beyond the walls.

"Eren died years ago. I have no name, no home, no life." They replied, and then launched themself down below. I rushed to the edge to catch a glimpse of them, but in a small explosion, he disappeared.

No one else saw him, noticed him. It was just me. I was quickly pointed out by one of the others in team one and was sent back to my team...

"Interesting," he said, let's crossed as we stopped right in front of the scout H.Q. "This is a mystery that for sure, must be solved. But for now, see you inside." He said, and waved to me as I walked into the H.Q. "Ok," I said to myself, "I got this."

I stared at the stairs leading inside and took a deep breath. step after step, I felt feeling after feeling. remorse, fear, grief, curiosity, happiness, confusion, and finally, bravery. I stepped up the final step, staring deep into the open door, waiting for me to enter. I took one more deep breath and walked in.
