...
It wasn't often that Nezu stayed this late at his school. The need for it wasn't very often and mostly he went back to his apartment at a reasonable enough hour. Unlike some members of his staff.
Tonight was one of the exceptions, however. Nighteye had asked for his help in a case. Given the time-sensitivity, he had stayed in his office. Where he still was early into the next morning a paw rubbing at his eyes. He now understood more than ever why Aizawa slept in many of his classes. The man wouldn't be able to function otherwise.
His mind however kept trailing off to the vigilante he had met. Lykos had interested him from the moment Nezu heard about him roaming the streets at night. Most vigilantes wouldn't step foot in Musutafu. With UA in the limits, they were too afraid of the heroes. Too afraid of getting caught or were interested in simply showing off their quirks. Not helping people like they claimed they wanted. It was what caused him to ignore those who had come before Lykos.
The few that stayed in Musutafu were usually caught within a few weeks. Obvious Gods or quirks made it fairly easy to track them down. Rarely was there a need for him to intervene.
When Aizawa had spoken of Lykos though he felt this person was different. He stayed out of the more popular districts of Musutafu. Far away from where heroes or police would willingly go. Most of the time they only showed their faces there for violent crime. Even Nezu hadn't realized how bad it had gotten in recent years. Lykos had and decided to do something about it. Using only the powers granted to him by his God, a wolf unless Nezu was mistaken he fought. There were never any serious injuries. Most of them could be treated by a local paramedic. What had caught his attention though was that the vigilante never used his quirk.
Aizawa had theories that it might be an analysis or intelligence quirk. While it might make sense Nezu's meeting and instincts told him differently. The way the young vigilante carried himself brought back memories best left forgotten.
A child with only half a soul. An occurrence that could only happen with the most powerful gods. Nezu at the height of his strength had been one such God. Not quite at the level of one of the Five Guardian Gods but still powerful.
What wasn't well known outside of the church was that no creature in their realm could survive with only half a soul. No matter how strong they were eventually the call of the other side would be stronger. Even a God sharing their body could only keep it at bay for so long. Too much damage done to the person's body could cause the God to go on a rampage. Or if the person's will wasn't strong enough the God could completely consume them.
Unconsciously Nezu's paws tightened on the papers he was holding. They wrinkled and crunched under his grip. Just the thought of what had happened so many years ago brought back.
A beeping from his computer announcing a security alert caught his attention. A few clicks of the keyboard brought the alert up. Security alert that a pass had been scanned at the gate. Specifically, the badge he had given to the young vigilante.
Bringing up the cameras he found Lykos leaning against the gate. His right hand was pressed against his side. Frowning Nezu zoomed in on the vigilante's side. The jacket was torn by claws if he had to guess. There must have been someone with an animal quirk.
Without thinking about it he sent a message off to Chiyo. If he could keep Lykos here he would like the vigilante to get a full workup. Ensure he was healthy beyond the injuries.
Given the late hour, the woman's reply was not happy. Still, she had agreed to be there as soon as she could. Nezu however needed to ensure Lykos did not pass out trying to find the Infirmary. He was many things but strong enough to lift a human was not one of them.
It only took him a few moments to reach the vigilante who had slowly made his way across the lawn. When he was close he could smell the scent of blood heavy on the air. He knew the vigilante was wounded but if the scent was anything to go by it was worse than he thought. When his green eyes saw Nezu they widened with surprise. To his relief though was that he didn't try to attack him.
Nezu questioned softly so as not to frighten him, "What happened?"
Despite his efforts, Lykos jumped half a foot in the air before groaning. His hand shifted and Nezu could see the wet on the vigilante's gloves.
He coughed painfully, "Did you mean what you said about helping me?"
Nezu lay a gentle paw on his arm as he replied, "Of course. I have called Recovery Girl so that she can tend to your wounds."
"That won't be necessary," interrupted Lykos shortly.
His head swiveled around as if expecting an ambush. Nezu barely withheld a sigh. The use of his badge had brought hope that the vigilante could possibly trust him. That apparently was a foolish hope.
Nezu said calm as ever, "I am not a doctor or healer, Lykos. Neither are you for that matter. She is both and has been sworn to secrecy. Using her quirk you will be healed rather than waiting on the wounds to heal naturally. The chance for reinjuring yourself it or it getting infected are next to zero this way."
Unsettling green eyes glanced down at him and Nezu met them evenly. He was right. He was right and the vigilante knew it. This would be the best way for him to get back out on the streets without risking doing even more damage to himself.
Finally, after what seemed like an eternity Lykos nodded motioning for Nezu to keep going. They continued across the lawn and straight into the school. Their footsteps were nearly silent in the halls as they made their way to the infirmary.
Halfway to the infirmary though Lykos began to sway heavily. Nezu touched the vigilante's arm gently trying to ground the other. Only for him to flinch away. His scent darkened with fear. Wild green eyes laced now with amber that hadn't been there before looked upon him.
Nezu raised his paws to show he meant no harm. Again the vigilante flinched but he didn't attack or move away. It took several long moments but the mixed colors faded back into green.
Lykos whispered his voice pained even through the voice changer, "I'm sorry. It's been a long night."
"It happens to the best of us."
With that said they entered the infirmary and Lykos headed straight for the supply cabinet. The more he moved the more blood he could smell. If they did not get this taken care of soon...
Oh never mind. Nezu could only watch as every muscle in the vigilante's body relaxed and he collapsed to the floor. The rat God moved to his side and checked his pulse. It was thready and weak but it was there. Another alert from his phone told him Chiyo had arrived. Just in time.
