A tall machine with a single red optic traveled through a dark terrain, sensors at the ready, scanning for unusual lifeforms with a older man behind him, arms folded, slouched, looking bored. Above them were two drones that provided light in the general direction that they were going or looking at for that matter similar to search lights.
"Nothing on sensors, Ranger Parsec."
"Nothing ever is." Ty said. "What do you say about going to sector 4?"
"Sector 4 looks clear here, sir."
Ty shifted toward the machine.
"Really, that's a surprise." Ty said, sarcastically. "Another dead end assignment on a back water rock." He threw his hands into the air. "I'm starving for some action."
"According to my logs, you had been in the field of action with Buzz Lightyear who, in all intents and purposes, faced action every day." Ty paused in his tracks, looking back, as the machine spoke. "You requested reassignment."
"Thanks for the reminder." Ty said, bitterly, as a large resting bat figure hung under the green moon. He looked up toward the sky, regretful. "Never had the courtesy to say that to him."
Ty lowered his head, then shook it, his hands clenching.
"Let's finish this survey." Ty said.
Nana looked at the young toddler recovering from the surgery getting his eyebrows repaired. He looked strongly like Buzz, sleeping in the small bed, his hands clenching the blanket. His blanket was decorated in Star Command decorations provided by Star Command for children in the hospital who were fans of the service. Nana looked at him, smiling, proudly. It had been a choice made by children making fun of him and parents whispering in concern at the playground. She could live with the questions, 'is that Buzz Lightyear's secret son?', 'where did you get him','Did Star Command accidentally make him?', 'what's your secret?', five great grandchildren, she owed a lot to the emperor who hadn't sent a child over to her in some time.
"Quark, one day, you'll be meeting Uncle Warp," Nana said. "And I don't know how soon that'll be."
The boy's eyes proceeded to open, flickering, his eyes shifting toward his great grandmother, widened.
"Space Man for Kindergarten field trip?" Quark asked. "Singing Space Man?"
Nana grew a widened grin.
"Yes, THAT Space Man." Nana said, inwardly cackling, evil.
"When?" Quark asked.
"When you're ready." Nana said, patting on his hand.
Darkmatter came to on his bunk, his head aching, the events of last night came to mind, trickling through his mind, until-his eyes flashed open and he were sobered up. What had he done? He broke a promise, explicitely, to Buzz Lightyear. He rubbed the bridge of his nose then looked up toward the top bunk with his hands clasped on his lap contemplating how to best handle that information out in the public, calmly, emotionally, or going into hiding to avoid the press circus, a dishonorable discharge after a charge of treason and go to a super max? It hadn't scared him before thinking about it five years before Buzz Lightyear's death and now, it did. He would be known as the traitor that killed Buzz Lightyear. He shoved his hands into his face.
He had to discover, find out, if the rookies were going to turn him in with this information, was his main thought as he withdrew his hand. And then leave Star Command without making a scene. He never imagined it to end this way, he had imagined it recently since a few years ago ending saving a Space Ranger like Buzz did with him, repaying his debt in full. He squeezed his eyes shut, painfully. Everything was about to change. This time for the worse and Zurg was incredibly likely to bust him out against his will.
He had never imagined this happening. Nana would be heartbroken and wouldn't look at him the same way as before. Losing his friends, his respect, losing his status as a good guy, but Buzz wouldn't be emotionally hurt by the news. The fall from grace wouldn't be felt only heard. His story would change from a glorious heroic ending to a sour cruel one that ended prematurely. He clasped his fingers in front of his lips as his trembling stopped but not the teary eyes. He laser shot the feelings down to a deep well then wiped what tears that remained with the back of his hand.
"Morning, Warp." Ovus greeted him, leaning against the frame of the bunk bed. "Heard you got yourself plastered."
"It was less worse than what you sound like after having several cocktails." Warp groaned, seated on the edge of the bed.
"I wasn't aware that you had the guts to steal a star cruiser and ended a interplanetary conflict with beer," Ovus said.
""Didn't happen."
""I don't know how to tell you how impressive it is to end a interplanetary conflict with getting two parties to drink and have a rowdy bar fight and sort out their differences getting sobered up."
"I did not do that."
"Buzz would have been really proud of you."
"What else did I do; save a endangered species from going extinct?"
"Actually, you accidentally saved two and brought it to Star Command, Ozma sends her words of thanks." Ovus handed him a playing padd with a grin then Warp looked down toward it with widened eyes. "Get drunk more often."
"Where was my team during this?"
"Searching for you. Racked up a big bill at that bar. You did that over TWO DAYS! TWO DAYS!"
"OKay, what else did I do? Stop one of Zurg's notorious plots?"
"No, your team did that, you were singing at a concert. Took over because the lead singer was killed during the performance. The very same concert that Zurg attended."
"Good god."
"And you saved me from making a big mistake."
"Oh god."
"Walking out without my suit on. So damn used to this thing."
"I am never getting drunk, ever, again."
"And last of all, you did sung with XR for Nebula's birthday party."
"How did I wind up at a concert?"
"XR got tickets, they thought you were sober. You were not."
"Shit." Warp fell back on the bed. "Damn it. How did Buzz live with a drunken friend for a entire week? I mean, I thought being older and all, it wouldn't last that long as it had."
"Are you meaning to imply Ipsedan's remain drunk for a week." Ovus was on the brink of tears.
"Yeah." Warp replied, earning loud laughter that erupted from his companion who hurled over.
Warp got up from the bunk, terrified from within, unaware how long, how long were they going to keep his secret? Were they going to tell at a date that he had arranged for? that he personally set? That his drunken self had agreed to? He paused in his tracks, pinching the bridge of his nose, his headache coming to. It was a pain to be half Ipsedan, being only able to recall a hour or two at most instead of the entire events that progressed the entire week. He sighed, his shoulders lowering, then continued on his tracks heading for the showers. Afterwards, he applied the necessary ointments to where the litter had been delivered from, got changed into his off duty uniform. He made it to the mess hall with his head aching, miserable, then looked over observing Mira beside him scanning the captain with XR's medical instruments.
"Not drunk." Warp said.
Mira squinted at the announcement.
"You said that and you abducted those poor leaders!" Mira announced, as XR was performing scans. "I've already sent strong recommendation of a three month suspension."
"Thorough." Warp said.
"Why didn't you tell me about the getting drunk part?" Mira asked. "It would have been very helpful."
"Because I never drink." Warp replied. "There was nothing to talk about that embarrassing part of my life."
"Never?" Mira asked as she lowered XR
"Last time that I did drink, Buzz and I, w-w-w-we had," he looked aside, finding it difficult, to talk about it with someone who didn't share the same feelings as he did about him. "Successfully prevented a fascist take over within the Galactic Alliance, we helped make a lot of memes, attended a lot campaign rallies, said no to fascism, Zurg wasn't part of it, but Buzz was dead certain it were him. . "
"When was this?" Mira asked.
"A few years before. . ." He couldn't finish that thought. "Still don't remember what happened after election week."
he approached the photograph on the wall of Buzz Lightyear among the faces of those who had fallen in the line of duty, including his parents.
"I wasn't aware that he were part of a election." Mira said, alarmed.
"Before Tangea was approached by Buzz for the conference." Warp recalled, fondly. "All I got are stories of me acting competent, having his back, not radical, about that week, often find myself what happened when nobody could see us." he lowered his gaze feeling emotional about it all. "It's gone, forever, just gone to that drunken haze that I were in, lost to time." Mira looked toward the wall then back toward the older man, in pity. "I just remember the celebration," He lowered his head. "not the aftermath."
"There is no intoxication left within him." XR announced. "I will prepare to send a unbiased report to Commander Nebula."
"I'm taking a personal day." Warp said.
"Warp. . ." Mira started.
"If you got any idea what happened after leaving the bar, now's a good time to tell." Warp shifted toward the young woman with a glare. "Because otherwise, I really deserve it after going in for a drink."
"Going in for what drink?"
"We went into the bar."
"No, you did that all by yourself."
"You're the one who insisted."
"I wasn't there, sir. You walked into the forty-two drunk as a kite."
"But Booster, XR?"
"We weren't there."
"What were you doing?"
"We were making sure the criminal was being housed in the Forty-Two, safely, secured, she is a flirty person after all. No one is immune to that kind of flirting, not even me."
"Warp, Mira, you're going to Canis Lunis!" Nebula came through the doorway holding XR in one hand. "Energy vampire!"
"Sir, permission to have a personal day?" Warp replied then added with a grimace. "I really hate energy vampires. Look so human can't tell you're facing one draining your energy,"
"Not the energy vampire you're thinking of!" Nebula said.
"Oh, this sounds interesting." Mira folded her arms with a smirk.
"Wait a second, isn't-" it clicked as he recalled and his eyes widened. "Oh, shit."
"It is very interesting." was Nebula's agreement with Mira's comment then shifted his attention toward Warp.
"What's this about?" Mira asked as Nebula departed after dropping XR to the floor.
"I'll read you in ten minutes, tops." Warp replied. "First, I need a breakfast bar and uniform!"
Warp exited the chamber leaving Mira and XR behind with a glance.
"Is he really okay, XR?" Mira asked.
"Emotionally. . . according to my sensors. . ." Xr replied. "he's a wreck."
