And so it was decided to get to the bottom of the situation herself. Upon returning home she immediately put her plan into motion, packing whatever she needed for her journey while giving Georgia the rundown.
"There's lots of leftovers that you can reheat. Make sure Evan does his homework. And both of you, get to bed on time I should be back tonight. Late. You can be in charge that long, can't you?" said Faith.
Georgia herself seemed rather confused by the situation. "Yeah. But why am I in charge again?"
"Nothing. Just a little trouble with Connor," she replied.
"You mean Conor's in trouble or Connor is the trouble?"
"I mean either he's in trouble, or he's going to be." Faith answered firmly which didn't settle Georgia's suspicions. While she continued packing in Connor's parents' room, Faith laid out the suits Ana had made, insisting that she takes them. Of course, Faith had no intention on giving them to her friends. But unfortunately, she didn't account for how perceptive they could be.
"Hey! What's that? Where'd you get that, Faith?" The young woman jumped at the sound of Owen's voice who she found standing in the open doorway his eyes on the suits. Her first instinct was to shut the door with an outstretched hand, which didn't change much as Owen simply talked about the suits. "You made a cool outfit? hey, are those for us? We all get cool outfits?!" he said in excitement.
Then Owen went in and snatched his suit.
"Owen! You come back here this moment!" Faith shouted before he answered the phone. "Hey Chad, thanks for getting back. Listen, I know this is short notice but I was hoping that I can get you to-"
"What are these?" she wheeled around to see Georgia had wandered in this time holding up her suit which Faith quickly took back moments before Owen went back in, now wearing his costume.
"Look, I'm the Owen! The Owen likes." he grinned while posing in the mirror.
"Take that off before somebody sees you." Faith demanded.
"But you're packing one. Are you hiding something?" Georgia asked narrowing her eyes.
"Please, Georgia, I'm on the phone-"
"YOINK!" Owen had snatched Georgia's suit back while Faith was distracted, handing it back to his sister. "This is yours, it's specially made."
"What's going on?" Faith ignored the question as she pushed the gang out of the room in a fluster.
"You're not coming! And I've gotta pack!" she yelled, she slammed the door and sighed.
Outside Owen and Georgia looked at each other trying to make sense of it all.
"What makes you think it's special?" asked Georgia.
"I don't know. But why faith tried to hide it?" Owen suspected before running off. Curious, Georgia pressed the watch that is attached to the suit and it vanished completely as she did so. The girl almost dropped it in shock when it happened. Who made this for her and why? And what did it have to do with whatever their friend was up to?
"Chad, I'm calling in a solid you owe me," said Faith.
"What do you need," asked Chad.
"A jet," she said." What do you got that's fast?"
"Let me think."
After calling in a favor to an old friend, the young woman had been able to borrow a commercial jet in order to reach her friend's location.
"Island approach," Faith called into the headset. "India Golf Niner-Niner, checking in, VFR on top over." she didn't get an answer which worried her. "Island Tower" Faith tried again. "This is India Golf Niner-Niner requesting vectors to the initial... Over..." Again, no reply, which worried her again.
The fact that no one was responding to her did cause her some discomfort. If this was some tropical getaway resort as she had come to believe then why wouldn't anyone answer? Faith glanced worriedly at the duffel bag sitting next to her new hero costume. Could it be her friend was in a different kind of trouble than she thought?
"Easy, Faith. Easy. Easy, girl. You're overreacting. Everything's fine. You're just all getting coffee. At the same time. Yeah. she said to herself, though it did little to reassure her as she set the plane to autopilot and retreated to the bathroom with the bag in tow.
But it turned out she wasn't overreacting at all. For within Techno's headquarters the quirkless villain was seen approaching a large rectangle chamber which split open to reveal the Young Heroes imprisoned in a cube with electrical bars.
"You guys, truly are heroes," Techno mocked. "You know, I was right to idolize them. I always knew you were more than just muscles, but tricking the probe by hiding under the bones of another hero? Oh, man, I'm still geeking out about it!" he said.
"And then you had to just go and... ruin the ride. I mean, heroes calling for help? 'Help me, help me.'" Techno pranced about mockingly with a wimpy voice. "Lame, lame, lame, lame, LAME! All right! Who did you contact?!' he demanded angrily much to their confusion.
"Contact? What are you talking about?" Connor questioned. Techno looked to a nearby guard and pointed at him. The grunt then turned a dial on a console displaying a voltage meter which caused the prisoners to electrocute the heroes who groaned in pain until Techno stopped the torture and elaborated further.
"I am referring to last night at 23:07 hours while you were snooping around. You sent out a homing signal."
"I didn't know about a homing device." Connor panted heavily which only earned a much higher voltage of shocking earning a scream from the heroes this time.
"And now a government plane is asking permission to land here, who did you send?"
"I didn't send for... a plane," Connor replied weakly.
"Play the transmission!" Techno groaned, exasperated as Malinda, who was operating a separate console played out a recorded message which Connor recognized almost instantly.
...India Golf Niner-Niner checking in. VFR on top. Over."
"Faith..." he whispered in horror.
"So you do know these people," said Techno. "Perhaps I should send them a little refusal." he pressed a big red button. It didn't take much for Connor to know what would happen.
Back on the jet, Faith had finished changing into her costume. But as she tossed the bag onto what she thought was an empty passenger seat she heard a cry. "Ow!"
"Georgia?!" the invisible girl revealed herself.
"It's not my fault! Owen ran away, and I knew I'd get blamed for it-"
"That's not true!" her aforementioned brother interrupted, popping up from behind another chair several rows behind Georgia.
"Owen?!" Faith was shocked again to find another of her friends stowed away but neither of them took notice as they were too busy arguing with each other.
"I thought he'd try to sneak on the plane so I came here and you closed the doors before I could find them and then you took off!"
"You said, "Something's up with Faith. We have to find out what!" It was your idea! Your idea! Hundred percent all-yours, all-the-time idea!"
Though she didn't care for their excuses, there was one thing that did stand out to Faith about them being here.
"Wait a minute, wait a minute. You left Evan alone?!" said Faith.
"Yes, Faith, I'm completely stupid," Georgia replied sarcastically. "Of course we got a sitter! Do you think I'm totally irresponsible? Thanks a lot!"
"Alright. Well, who'd you get?"
The next few minutes were spent with Faith calling the house to find that Owen and Georgia had left their little brother in the care of one of the neighbors Dana, a friendly but talkative girl that is around Owen's age.
"You don't have to worry about one single thing, Faith," Dana said. "I've got this babysitting thing wired. I've taken courses and learned CPR, and I've got excellent marks and certificates I can produce on demand," she said.
"Dana." Faith spoked.
"I also brought Mozart to play while he sleeps to make him smarter because leading experts say, Mozart, makes babies smarter."
"Dana." Faith tried again.
"And the beauty part is the babies don't even have to listen because they're asleep! Y'know I wish my parents played Mozart when I slept because half the time I don't even know what the heck anyone's talking about."
"Dana, I really don't feel comfortable with this, um, I'll pay for your trouble, But I'd really have to call a service," said Faith.
"Oh, there's no need Faith I can totally handle anything this baby can dish out," said Dana.
But before Faith could discuss the situation with her any further she was distracted by a beeping coming from the plane's radar.
She hurried back to the cockpit to see the island was in sight, but what really got her attention was what was coming from the island towards the plane, fast... Missiles.
Despite the fact she was now scared out of her wits, Faith tried contacting the island again. "India Golf Niner-Niner transmitting in the blind guard. Disengage! Repeat, disengage!"
She flipped on the seatbelt sign to alert the kids who immediately ran to the seats nearest to them, but before they could buckle in, the missile went straight for them forcing Faith to evade sending her friends rolling about the cabin in the process.
"Disengage! Repeat, disengage! Friendlies!" Faith repeated again while she increased the jet's propulsion.
"No! Call off the missiles, I'll do anything!" Connor pleaded desperately.
"Too late." Techno shrugged. "Fifteen years too late," he added venomously.
"Friendlies at two-zero miles southwest of your position. Angels 10. Track east. Disengage!" Faith was panicking now as she turned to Georgia who was diving out of the missiles.
"Georgia! You have to put a force field around the plane!"
Georgia couldn't believe her ears, despite the madness happening around her. "But you said we weren't supposed to use our powers!"
"I know what I said! Listen to what I'm saying now! Disengage. Repeat, disengage!" she spinned to avoid the missiles, but they keep on after her.
"Faith...?" Owen whimpered in fear.
"Georgia!" Faith shouted. "Mayday, mayday! India Golf Niner-Niner is buddy-spiked! Abort! Abort! Abort! There are children aboard, say again, there are children aboard!"
Malinda listened to it in shock.
"NO!" yelled Connor in horror, as the heroes heard it in shock.
She didn't have time to evade as the missiles were getting close to the plane.
"PUT A FIELD AROUND US NOW!" Faith screamed desperately.
"But Faith, I've never done one that big before!" Georgia replied.
"Georgia, do it now!" Faith was beyond desperate by now as she spoke into her headset one last time. "Abort! Abort! Abort!"
Georgia tried to create a forcefield but found in her state of panic she could barely make a small bubble that lasted only a second.
"ABORT! ABORT! ABORT!" the missiles were getting even closer.
Faith knew they were out of time as she threw herself over the kids before the missiles made contact. After they made contact, the entire craft exploded.
Thanks to the durability of Anna's suits and from shielding her friends with her body, none of them had been killed. But they were still falling, as Faith awoke from her brief knockout from the blast to see Georgia and Owen screaming in terror as they fell. Thinking fast she grabbed both of them and billowed herself again allowing them to safely drift down towards the sea.
"Brace yourselves!" she said as they landed in the water. Faith quickly swam over to her panicking friends. "Everybody calm down, we're OK. now, I'll tell you what we're not gonna do. We're not gonna panic, we're not gonna-LOOK OUT!"
She quickly pushed them all underwater before one of the plane's engines hit the water, narrowly missing them. Owen and Georgia swam back to the surface as Faith watched the debris sink into inky blackness before going to join them, both kids in a panic.
"Oh my god! What was that!" Georgia yelled.
"We're dead! We're dead!" Owen wailed while trying to stay afloat.
"It blew up!"
"We survived but we're dead!"
"Stop it!' Faith splashed the both of them to snap them out of it. "We are not gonna die! Now both of you get a grip. Or so help me I will call your parents! Understand?!"
Back in the interrogation room Malinda, though horrified by what she'd just witnessed, gave the results to Techno. "We have a confirmed hit. Target...was destroyed."
"Ah, you'll get over it." Techno scoffed to Energyman as he waved his hand dismissively. "I seem to recall you prefer to...work...alone?"
Techno began to walk away not noticing Energyman glaring daggers at him as she reeled his hands. Malinda seeing this, pushed Techno out of the way getting herself caught in the energy hero's grasp in the process.
"Release me. NOW!" he thundered in rage.
"Or what?" Techno questioned.
"I'll shock her." Connor threatened.
"Ooh, sounds a little dark for you." Techno cringed before muttering. "Ah, go ahead."
Malinda gasped with shock and disbelief as Energyman tightened his grip harder on her. "It'll be easy...like lighting a match."
Techno found it amusing as he stared Connor in the eye. "Show me."
Connor stared back at the villain who didn't crack his face and he waited, he slowly felt his will give way and he sighed as he dropped Malinda who looked at him in shock.
"I knew you couldn't do it. Even when you have nothing to lose! You're weak!" Techno demeaned that broken hero as he walked away. "And I've outgrown you."
Malinda reluctantly followed him but stopped at the doorway to hear the sound of Connor sobbing over the supposed death of his friend and family, the woman feeling a weight in the pit of her stomach as she left, while Mina and Momo held onto Connor to comfort him.
