Watching and Waiting...
Babylon, Planet Earth
575 BC
And so began the pattern - a long, painful, and downright boring pattern (in her own humble opinion) one that lasted hundreds of years. A pattern which continued to wear on her. One that Ajak consistently regarded as 'necessary'.
Babylon was a beautiful city and she had explored it to the fullest to pass the time - time where she could have very well been helping out with the Deviants but instead was pushed away and hidden in the shadows, shut down at every last twist and turn.
"Phastos, did you go to the party last night like I told you to?" Ajak asked, striding into the main hub of the Domo which sat beneath the Babylonians incredible Ishtar Gate.
"Uh, party? The party, yeah. Uh, yeah, that party-"
"He worked all night," cut in Druig with a chuckle.
"Who was talking to you?" Phastos protested.
"Get a life." Ajak sighed. "Luckily there is another one tomorrow."
"Great..."
"Humans throw a lot of parties."
"Where is Sersi?" Ajak demanded.
"Late, as usual," quipped Sprite.
"I think she was with Ikaris," Kaosa answered.
"What are they doing?" asked Sprite, suddenly very interested.
"I don't know. Another walk, I think." Kaosa merely shrugged.
"Phastos, will you please try to make an effort with this party tomorrow?" Ajak requested.
"I'll go in his place," Kaosa offered.
"Thank you, Kaosa, but I would like both of you there."
"See Phastos, she even wants me there and that says something." Now it was her turn to quip. "Must be some party."
However, the excitement of finally being included quickly faded the closer and closer the party drew, and when it arrived, the time found her sitting aside, of her own accord this time, nose buried in some scrolls.
"We miss you." She looked up to see Kingo standing there.
"You found me, I was seeing how long it would take for you all to notice I was gone."
"Don't be like that, we notice."
"Well, I was still surprised to receive and invitation, and by Ajak nonetheless."
"She's just looking out for you."
"Yeah, I guess... What are you doing here? You're usually the life of the party."
"I came to find you."
They peered down from the gate at the festivities taking place below. "They sure know how to have fun, don't they," she remarked into the night.
"Yeah, they do. And so can we." He held out his hand and flashed her a smile. "Come on. Let's go join the fun."
"Very well - I can be very fun, it's just no one let's me be." She took his hand and followed down into the crowd, scrolls very much forgotten.
This was nice, finally being part of the group. However, it would be short lived as they would too soon discover.
