Chaos Rising...
Atlantis, 300 BC
"I can help, I know I can..."
Famous, and ultimately fatal, last words.
Strange weather patterns were erupting along the shores of the ancient advanced city. This city and its people had taken more kindly to Phastos's more advanced inventions and had quickly become some of the most advanced humans the Eternals had witnessed on Earth thus far. It was really quite incredible and fascinating.
So when the Deviants arrived amidst the already rising chaos of the elements, it was only a matter of time before disaster struck.
And when it did, did it ever strike.
There were more Deviants this time, spreading the Eternals' forces thin. Kaosa had an idea: She stood at the centre of the city. If she could cast enough chaos energy to engulf the whole island and direct it at the Deviants, maybe, just maybe, she could take them all out in one fell swoop.
It was worth a try - the Deviants had already laid waste to much of the city, and had killed many of the Atlantean people.
So without another thought, she plunged both fists full of energy into the ground. Gold light spilled out around the entire island, rippling as it went. There was one last shriek from the Deviants, and then they all fell, dead.
Kingo, who was nearby, whirled around to face her. "How did you do that?"
She didn't have long to bask in her victory however, as the sudden shocked stillness and silence were shattered moments later.
It happened so fast-
"It's sinking!"
The ground rocked beneath them, the water rising - the whole landmass was sinking beneath the surface.
"Ikaris, the people!" shouted Ajak.
Ikaris flew into action - literally - carrying as many people as he could off the rapidly-sinking landmass and to the next closest island. Phastos quickly engineered some hovering spheres of various sizes, carrying groups away as well. He also stretched out a bridge way of sorts, floating in the air, connecting to the other island, so that Makkari could run the people to safety.
Once the remaining people were safe, Ikaris, Phastos, and Makkari helped their fellow Eternals to safety as well. There, they all watched as the ocean churned beneath them, as if by Poseidon's own doing, and the sea overtook the city and the great Atlantis sunk beneath the surface and into the deep, dark depths below.
"We failed." Sprite was the first to break the silence.
"We stopped the Deviants, isn't that our mission." Yes, they had stopped the Deviants, but at a great cost - she had caused the loss and destruction of Atlantis.
"You acted out of line," Ajak spoke. "Kaosa, all this could have been avoided-"
"If I hadn't been here. Admit it Ajak, I'm an anomaly."
"Kaosa, I love you-"
"Really? If you really did, you'd let me be part of the team! I've always been the odd one out, even more than Druig!"
"Harsh," said the man in question.
"It's true - ten of you, I make eleven."
Ajak cut in. "Kaosa, you did this. I tried to hold you back but I knew it was only a matter of time before your defiance would have disastrous consequences. And now here we are." The deep disappointment in her voice dug deep.
"Do you see Arishem intervening? Obviously this was meant to happen, part of his 'great plan'." She spoke mockingly.
"Watch your tone," Ikaris ground out.
"Or what?" she returned, urging him on. "What are you going to do, Ikaris?"
"Stop it, just stop." Sersi held him back.
Kaosa gazed around at her fellow Eternals, who were either looking at her in a mix of fear, sadness, disappointment, or not at all. "You will not tie me down any longer - any of you!"
"You would betray your family?" Ikaris demanded.
"Family? This isn't family. If this is family, I want no part of it. And I don't see any of you trying to stop me." And with that, she turned away and left them.
That would be the last time she saw any of them for hundreds, upon hundreds of years.
So I hear we're getting Atlantis in the MCU soon, maybe even in Black Panther 2! So excited! :D
Thank you so much for reading and I hope you enjoyed as always! :)
