"Honestly," They grump at their parents, "You could have told me I looked like Lestrange. What if I'd gone outside like this?"

Molly has left, thankfully, not that they have anything against their best friend's mother, or her tentative friendship with their parents, but right now there are more important things to talk about. Things that strangers can't be a part of.

They bring out their letter, folded over once and place it on the table. Immediately their mother draws into her pocket and takes out a very similar looking piece of parchment. They slide theirs closer and take the new one.

Scanning it quickly Tonks finds that their cousin hasn't written anything more in this letter than in theirs. I'm safe, I love you, don't look for me. There's one new part; I'll try to come by once things have settled down. Well that's one reason not to live in the city Tonks supposes. It's a better habitat for harbouring criminals.

"It would have been good practice." Mum says, laying down their letter, "Dodging curses is good for development."

Dad laughs goofily, the same way he always does at mum's darker jokes, then whistles in innocence when they both turn to look at him.

Tonks rolls their eyes at their parents' byplay, and scrubs a hand over Snuffles' head before broaching the subject.

"What do I do?" That's not what they wanted to say. Not even close. Their parents must know this, because neither of them answer. "Should I quit my job? I'm compromised."

"Compromised how?" Dad says, deliberately foolishly, as though they'd fall for that after knowing him their whole life.

"I won't turn him in Da! I won't! Not for anything."

"I know." He answers immediately, patting their hand. "We know that Nymphadora."

"I love my job." It goes unsaid that the reason they wanted to be an auror had originally been hero-worship of Sirius.

"We know darling." Mum says quietly, reaching out to join hands with them both. "No one expects you to quit. I'm sure Sirius won't risk you like that; he says in his letter that he's proud of you doesn't he?"
