the real Seth: location he doen't know. also reveiws are appriciated.
Seth listened as another drop of water echoed through the chamber. It fell on the stones watering the small patch of weeds that survived from the few rays of sun that came through the iron-barred window. It was hard to keep track of how many days he had spent trapped here.
He had failed his mission to infiltrate The Society and find out what their plan was. Bonus points if he could find out who was in charge.
There had been rumors circulating within the magic community of a new leader of the society of the evening star. Up to a point, Seth had done his job well; he had some idea of what The Society wanted to accomplish. Seth had posed as a fair folk. He had some help from eve to make his disguise more believable. He was supposed to be a disgruntled young fae looking to break away from the traditions of neutrality, letting The Society of the Evening Star recruit him.
He had loved every minute of being undercover except for his pointy prosthetic ears. Those were itchy and stupid. The mission had taken six months just to be recruited. Seth had to undergo a significant physical transformation so that no one would recognize him. Well, nothing too substantial, but he had grown an awesome beard and dyed his hair from its usual light brown to black. To be honest, it makes him look a little bit more like what you would expect from a shadow charmer, and he wasn't entirely opposed to the idea of keeping his new look once he got back home.
Seth had gleaned that The Society had plans to create an ultimate weapon. A creature imbued with dark magic from a young age. Seth didn't know who their victim would be. Still, he knew from experience that one clueless person influenced by the wrong people could cause insurmountable damage.
Seth kept hearing the name Addanc, a skilled wizard that had a penchant for corrupting the pure and good. The idea of such power being used to bring about the fall of the preserves terrified him. He couldn't let what happened to him happen to anyone else. This fight had always been important to Seth, but it became more personal as he grew older.
Then his mission had gone spectacularly wrong. The last thing he remembered before waking up in this musty cell was sheer panic as some unseen hands jerked from his bed in his tiny hotel room. His captors had bound him tightly, stuffing him in the back of a trunk. He had tried to maneuver himself so that he could kick the taillights, but it was more complex than it looked on one of his favorite tv shows. After a few hours, they moved him from the car trunk to a dungeon where he was now trapped.
Every so often, heavy footfalls would make their way down the dimly lit corridors of the prison. Some were just goblins shoveling slop on the dirty tin plates. Some were other prisoners whose names and faces Seth didn't recognize. He would try to get some slight hint of where he was from the barred window and the little slat in the door, but he still knew nothing of what or who had blown his cover.
Seth sat on the stained mattress. He had already done a round of exercise, and now he was trying to catch his breath.
"Seth Sorensen, a pleasure to finally meet."
Seth's head jolted at the voice. There had been no other noise, no ruffle of clothes, or even the sound of scuffling feet. Despite his surprise, he said nothing. His mouth had gotten him into sticky situations before the least he could do is find out how who he was talking to. So Seth only sat listening.
"I apologize for not introducing myself earlier,"
Seth could not hold back his snort. Obviously, there was nothing humorous about the situation, but he was tired of villains parading themselves as heroes and gentlemen. They had done despicable things for a vile cause, and there was no way around it.
"I am Addanc," the voice said. The volume was barely above a whisper, so that Seth had to lean closer and strain his ears to hear.
Seth froze. He looked up at the still-closed door of the prison cell. He stared at the door as if, by staring, he could burn a hole in the wood.
"Don't worry, I have no intention of harming you. However, it is your sister who I am more interested in. Kendra."
"Don't you dare lay a finger on her!" Seth growled. He slammed his body into the door, his hands gripping the iron prison door bars that provided a little window in the wooden door. Now, Seth could see a man his tall thin build was hidden by dark green robes. The man's face was eerily young, not much older than Seth. But it was his eyes that drew Seth's attention. Two black orbs glistened where his pupils were supposed to be, the spheres mirroring Seth's haggard appearance.
The man, Addanc, gave Seth a satisfied smirk as Seth took in his appearance. Seth was a wild man compared to the calm demeanor portrayed by the wizard.
"Also, I wanted to offer my congratulations. My informant informed me of the happy news. Kendra or, more precisely, the child, well, children she carries may be of some use to us."
It took a moment for the shock, the terror to settle over Seth. Addanc watched in wicked delight as Seth's features construed to show pure agony. Addanc Knew he had dealt a crushing blow.
"By the way," addanc sneered, my informant, you, well a stingbulb that looks like you has kept me well informed on the mission of the knights of the dawn." I had to send him with a few magical items that can repicate a few of your powers like shadow walking or dowsing lights. but it was worth it we had to make your doplganger believable. He will lead them straight into a trap at the alaska perserve. Boramis the dragon there is a long time aquantence of mine and is expecting their arrival"
"how does the saying go?" he paused as if mockingly contemplating as his lips forming a wicked thin lipped smile,"ah, yes. I remember. like shooting fish in a barrel."
As Addanc walked away, he could hear Seth's agonized screams and curses echoing through the dungeon corridors.
