I am hoping to post two chapters a week from now until the end of the story. Thank you! Also be sure to follow and leave comments. Please!

Seth had tried to remain hopeful that his sister would be okay, but the truth was he had no idea of what was going on. Seth had always hated being couped up, but this time it felt different. He had no illusions that he would escape unscathed. It was hard to keep himself from letting his worry pull him down into a pit of grief and stress. He had stopped paying attention to the sounds on the other side of his cell door, so he was surprised when the door creaked open, revealing a troll.

Seth had a particular fondness for trolls. They were pretty easy to manipulate, and they recognized authority more than most other magical creatures. All you had to do was convince them that you were in charge.

"Hey, what's going on?" Seth asked, his language switching naturally into duggish.

The toll didn't even speak to him as he prodded Seth with the club that he was carrying, urging Seth to get up and move towards the door. Seth followed the troll down several hallways turning several downs several different corridors. Seth tried to keep track of the other directions. he recited the turns over in his head. Left then left, they turned, taking a right and walking down a long hallway before taking a final left as he went up a flight of steps until the troll led him to a courtyard. Seth blinked his eyes, allowing them to adjust to the sudden sunlight after being trapped in the bowels of the prison for who knows how long.

Different creatures were milling about the square in the courtyard that looked like a typical prison compound with a basketball hoop and high stone walls. The troll guarding Seth pushed him out into the yard, and Seth stumbled forward.

Most creatures kept their distance, eying him warily, while others observed him with open curiosity.

Seth knew that he had to proceed cautiously. He couldn't afford to provoke any fights. Though he would imagine that since most of these prisoners were enemies of the society of the evening star, he could find a few potential allies if he was careful.

"You have an hour twice a week outside," the troll instructed.

Seth scanned the other prisoners wondering how smart it would be to talk to them if the thought of having allies was even worth it.

Seth noticed a man with dark hair and olive skin. He seemed to be vaguely familiar. Seth figured that it might be best to keep his abilities a secret though he knew that most people would probably recognize him from within the knights or even within the society, he did have a reputation. But he had managed to keep his wings a secret from the rest of the world. They were the secret weapon that nobody knew he had, and now that he knew he had access to the outside, there was a chance for him to escape.

Seth cautiously tried to take in his new surroundings taking notice of their guards and weapons. He saw a few trolls along the top of the wall with crossbows, but Seth figured that doing a few arrows would be easy compared to dragons.

Seth approached the man.

"Hey, man," Seth said as he approached the man,

"Look, kid, I suggest you move along. It won't help you to be making friends here".

"Okay, man, you look familiar for some reason."

"look, I suggest you keep to yourself. There are a lot of dangerous people in this yard. I would hate to see that pretty fancy of yours ruined on your first day in the yard," the man sneered.

"you don't seem so scary, Seth said, baiting the man. And I would be willing to bet that nobody in this yard would count as my most dangerous acquaintance,"

"so you're a smart ass

" Not really," Seth said "it isn't much you could do that would scare me. He said"

"you should be more cautious," the man.

Seth wrinkled his nose. "That's more my sister's forte. Though I don't know why she still insists on being so cautious when she is easily the most dangerous person I have ever met."

Yeah, and what did your sister do to kill a demon?

"The demon king, actually," Seth said, his voice only relaying a sense of boredom. "'I have suspicions about how she got out of the Underrealm unscathed."

"So what, you have scary friends. They won't be able to get you out of this place."

"You never know we tend to specialize in jailbreaks."

"If I know anything, your family probably doesn't even know you are missing."

That's probably true. Seth thought he could only hope that the family would recognize the sling bulb's facade.

"Look, kid, keep your head down, and you will do well enough here." The man said.

"Thanks; I'm Seth, by the way. "

"Lorenzo." The man said, introducing himself.

Seth held out his hand so Lorenzo could shake it.

Lorenzo only stared at him." We are not friends."

" I know. "Said Seth, "but I don't see why our acquaintance cant is mutually beneficial."

"So," Seth said. "Who doesn't know that you're in here."

what?

"Do you have any family? "

"Yeah, I had a little sister. We were in the society together she ends being discovered by them. I tried to go after her, but the club stopped me. I haven't heard from her since. I wanted to contact her through one of the other knights that I had bitten, but for some reason, the control I had over him was shattered, which can only be done by one of our kind.

your kind? "Seth asks,

"yeah, my sister and I are boxes."

Seth's eyes widened as a light bulb went off in his head "you wouldn't happen to know Vanessa Santoro."

Lorenzo looked up at him. Startled, "you know my sister? Is she okay?"

"Yeah, I know Vanessa" she is doing great. Seth said, "she's married now. She married my cousin."

"So she did join up with the knights of the dawn."

" Yeah, after the Sphinx threw her under the bus, she changed sides; not everything is perfect though she went blind during the dragon war, she has adjusted well enough."

"Lorenzo just stared at the ground absorbing the information. So that's why society threw me in here. Vanessa went to the knights. I was just a liability, so they threw me in here!" Lorenzo snarled. He had no idea of what had happened to her. He had spent the last fifteen years wondering if his little sister was even still alive. Not only was she alive, but she seemed, from what Seth had told him, happy, and that was all he had ever wanted for Vanessa.

"So if you're a blix, you didn't by any chance bite anyone within the knights that could get a message to Vanessa about where we are?"

"maybe, he said warmly. Even if I could get a message to Vanessa, I don't even know where we are."

Seth slouched. "I need to warn Kendra," Seth admitted, "addict is after her."

Lorenzo nodded. "I'll check. You never know. I've bitten a lot of knights back when I was undercover for the Spinx.

"I don't have time to wait for you to get the message out here."

"Okay," Seth said, "don't worry about getting out of here, Seth said as he looked up at the sky. I'll take care of that."

"how do you plan on doing that?"

"I still have a few tricks up my sleeve," Seth said with a mischievous look in his eye.

You better be able to fly to eve have a chance of getting out of here

Seth shot Lorenzo a grin. "Are there any defenses that you know of that would keep someone from just flying out?" Seth said, trying and failing to keep his tone conversational.

"none that I know of, there is nothing extra like a force field if that's what you mean. "

"good. You don't need to grab anything?"

"believe me, there is nothing here that I would want to take with me," said Lorenzo.

"good," Seth said, shooting a glance towards the top of the wall, "then let's go."

Now

"now, Seth confirmed, "this can't wait. I have to get to Kendra Before Addanc has a chance to get to her."

"Okay, your the boss," Lorenzo said.

With that, Seth grabbed Lorenzo under his arms, unfurled his wings, and pushed off with his legs into the sky.

The guards standing passively in the corners and on the tops of the walls reeled in shock. They fumbled for their weapons. The alarms began to blare, causing the other prisoners to descend into chaos. Some of the prisoners turned on each other, taking advantage of the distraction to settle their arguments, while others begged Seth to take them too. Seth forced himself to ignore their pleas and begging and promised himself that he would return to release the others as soon as possible if he got out.

Seth knows that the element of surprise would be his ally as he beat his wings faster. His wings are straining under the extra weight of carrying another person, With his arms pulled around Lorenzo as his wings flapped furiously as he gained altitude.

Lorenzo wasn't as heavy as Seth thought he would be. Fifteen years on the prison diet gave you a leaner than the average figure. Seth had practiced carrying other people before, including warren. He figured that he should be able to take one person in case of an emergency, and now his practice had paid off as he was able to rise in the air at a quick and steady pace.

The guards quickly regained their composure and hurled maces and clubs at them. The guards guarding along the top began to shoot arrows at them. Seth dodged as deftly as possible, but a few hands still nick him.

Lorenzo cried out in startled pain as an arrow grazed the right side of his torso.

Seth didn't stop, but he pushed himself harder and faster than he had ever flown before. He could only hope that he was born in the right direction. He rose to the top, getting himself and Lorenzo out of the range of the arrows before heading west, following the sun.
