Chapter 9: Pull yourself together.

Following the battle with Titan Grimm. Vale huntsmen arrive to take control of the situation by dispatching huntsmen to defend the town and its residents.

People were treated and protected. With the best results of the year. There are no casualties, although some wounds must be treated.

However, this will not stop other people from gathering to celebrate their victory against the creature of darkness. The feast isn't much, but it might as well be the best they can get in their circumstance. Everyone who fought to protect the town was treated like a hero. And now they're drunk and contented with nice food.

Except for someone with a high tolerance.

"How are things going, Jaune?" Qrow approached him and sat across from him.

"Hello, Qrow. "Everything is ideal." Jaune grins as he takes another sip of whisky. This is something he enjoys a lot. It is known as honey whisky, and it has a smooth taste. Make him happy and relaxed, and his head will feel lighter. Jaune is content with my life.

Right now, life is good. He had proven to himself that he was capable of being a hero. And he'd met a lovely girl. He'd made friends with a group of aspiring huntsmen. Since he was a child, he wished to be one of them. It had been two months. You won't be able to become a huntsman if you only have a little training.

He has, however, discovered Aura. Jaune raises his hand, focusing on it and forming a small light orb.

Aura is the most incredible power he has ever experienced. This is the ability that allows humanity to survive in this harsh world. And the ability to make his wish come true.

"I'm happy for you, kiddo. It's already a miracle for a kid like you to survive a titan class Grimm fight. And that's before we even get into how you save everyone's life."

"You are the one who is fighting it. And it was May who fired the final shot into that overgrown bird's skull." Jaune makes a point. "I'm just a support."

"I don't know, I just heard that some crazy kid is riding a bird into the sky and leading Grimm out of town." "Look at Jaune, Qrow said. One brow furrowed.

"May is the one who killed it."

"Then please tell me." Qrow twirls his glass around. "How can a single sniper bullet blow a massive Grimm head off? What in the world is that? Is that your girlfriend's semblance? Or have you done anything with that bullet?"

Jaune swallow. "So... I just..."

Qrow laughs as he smacks Jaune on the back. "I'm just playing with you, Jaune; you don't have to tell me about your secret of turning a small bullet into a warhead canon. Absolutely not! We huntsmen are always prepared with one or two tricks up our sleeves."

Jaune sighs with relief.

"That you pass my examination. Keep your weapon hidden at all times. As a result, the enemy will have no idea what hit them." Qrow gives him advice.

"But what if I have to tell my friend for it to be useful?"

"Then make sure they can be trusted."

Jaune nod.

Qrow looks at him, a small smile on his face. "Aww, don't be such a downer, bird boy." You will have a dependable friend. Even a family! When you get there at Beacon, you will meet your team and they will be great people. I promise it.

Jaune returns the smile and shakes his head. "I'm not concerned about the people I'll meet at Beacon. I believe that place will be teeming with wonderful and capable individuals. What I'm most worried about is myself. What if I'm not up to the task? "What if I don't live up to their expectations?"

He doesn't want to be a letdown to anyone else. 'How come you can't do that?' The hushed whisper. That repulsive sensation always causes him to cry at night when everyone else is sleeping. So they won't have to see their son's miseries. How weak he truly is. He feels as if his throat is being squeezed by the pressure. Makes it hard for him to breathe. Jaune raises his hand instinctively to cover his throat. It's even worse than the real thing. He can't just punch it and it'll disappear. He doesn't want to remember how it feels again.

Qrow gives him a look. Eye soften. Raise his hand and place it on Jaune's other shoulder, pulling him into a one-sided hug.

"I'm not sure what everyone will think of you, Jaune." Maybe you'll let them down, maybe you won't. But do you really care about what they think of you?"

Jaune pauses for a few seconds before replying. "Huntsman is an important profession in the remnant. Anyone can want to be a huntsman, but not everyone can become one. If I'm lucky and get in, they'll get a weak boy with an aura and little training. But if I am not. they will get a fully capable person to-"

"If you get through. They will accept you whether you are stronger or weaker than them. If you pass the examination. What about your past? It makes no difference. They don't care. You're a badass bandit from another continent, and you've only got your sister with you? They don't care. If you pass, they'll accept you as a huntsman."

Qrow shook Jaune up.

"They will strengthen you. Because Beacon is a school. There, you will learn how to become stronger. And when you come out, you'll be stronger because of everything you've learned. Just make sure you pass, okay?"

Jaune nods slowly.

Qrow smiles softly at him.

"Have I ever told you how proud I am of you, Jaune?"

'Eh? Where is this come from?'

"And happy that you had accomplished what you had always wanted to do." Qrow gestures to the people around them. "Saving people."

It's nice to see people celebrating their victory over humanity's nightmare. They mourn for the life they lost and celebrate the life that remains after surviving. Life is such a valuable thing. And he played a role in their survival.

Tears well up in the corners of my eyes. And quickly swat it away with my arm. Every time I met him, I thought to myself, "Goddamn, how every time I met him." He makes me cry like a child all the time. Damn him for making me cry, and damn him for being such an excellent teacher. Damn you, whisky, for making me emotional as well.

"Thank you very much, Qrow; you are truly the best person anyone could ask for."

Qrow's chuckle. "All I'm doing is giving you something to think about, not that I'm a good person." Raise his glass in his hand. Jaune cheer. Clink. And then drink down.

"Oh! I almost forgot about it. "How has your training with your semblance been going?"

"I can now control it very well. I think. I can heal a person's body by boosting their aura, causing it to overcharge." Jaune took a sip. "I even healed a man whose arm was lost."

"Do you believe you can cure someone of a disease?" Qrow inquires.

"I have healed a little kid that got cold into heathy, Is that count?"

Qrow sighs and shakes his head. "Don't mind me, I'm just curious."

"You're always welcome, Qrow."

Qrow gives a nod. And it appears that he forgot to tell him something yet again. Qrow reaches for his pant leg. And then he takes out his scroll. Open and send it to Jaune.

Jaune takes a look at the screen.

"It appears that you have made yourself popular, Jaune."
