Hi, guys welcome to chapter 4 of however many I'm going to be adding. Unfortunately, I do not know how many chapters I'll be adding but from the planning I have and the plot points, I intend on adding it will be quite a few. So I hope you enjoy the chapter and have fun. !Also violence warning! Violence ahead.

It had been a few hours since Yuri and Serena had left town and both of them had been mostly quiet throughout the trip. They had left about late noon and now it was surely past midnight and they were looking for a safe place to rest. The silence was killing them though. It was awkward... they were used to keeping their own company but now they had the other person only a few feet away it was weird to not talk. So Yuri decided to break the silence, he had questions anyway so this was the best a time as any.

"So... princess what was with that letter earlier? I've never seen someone look so pained writing a note" He said sarcastically.

Serena sighed and crossed her arms. She should've expected he would be asking questions but he did not need to sound so insensitive.

"You didn't have to sound so rude but that was a letter to my brother he.." Yuri cut her off.

"You have a brother" Serena stopped and looked at Yuri. We sounded... she didn't know how to explain it but he sounded hurt... but why?

"Umm kind of I mean he's my adoptive brother. A few weeks after I lost my sisters he found me and took me in and since then he's been my older brother".

The two continued walking but this time the silence wasn't quite as painful, in a strange way it was a comforting type of silence. They walked at the same fast pace until Yuri suddenly stopped her and pointed to a relatively large building in the distance.

"We can sleep there, usually I would just sleep in the woods but we might as well enjoy the comfort of a warm inn while we can"

Serena nodded and the two sped up towards the building until they had reached the inn following Yuri as he walked in.

"Welcome dears to silver oak inn my lovely establishment, I'm surprised you two are out so late you two must be tired" said a middle-aged women behind the counter of the inn fussing over the two travellers. She seemed quite friendly but also gave off the vibes of being a very nosy person. Serena was about to start talking but Yuri beat her to it.

"I know we seemed to have gotten lost on our way to town thank the lord that we stumbled across this lovely in" Serena did a double-take. She was not expecting Yuri to start speaking, especially in a weird English accent (ok you can imagine either a British accent or Yuri's dub voice. Whatever you enjoy more) but he just continued.

"I don't suppose you have a room left at such a late hour" Serena was trying her hardest to keep a straight face. She then heard the woman walk across the room and clap her hands.

"Yes it's your lucky day..er night I have one more room I hope you don't mind sharing a single bedroom" Serena froze she may trust him somewhat but that didn't make the idea anymore... uncomfortable.

"No not at all how much will the room be for the night madam?"

"A hundred coins a night dear" it was Yuri's turn to do a double-take. One hundred coins that was a robbery, but he had to grin and bare it...literally. Yuri handed the coins over to the women and escorted the pair to their room.

"Here you go but I do advise you to keep it down I would want you to disturb my other guests" the two nodded and walked into their room. It was a medium-sized room with a double-sized bed, working desk and window and the far side of the room. Yuri walked ahead flew his bag and cloak next to the desk then sat on the end of the bed.

Serena followed suit and placed her bag and cloak next to his then sat next to him. Now to figure out how they were going but she was going to break the tension first.

"So... what was with that accent it sounded so stupid" Serena quietly laughed not wanted in to wake the other guests. Yuri pace palmed and shook his head in what she could only call embarrassment.

"It's only stupid because you know what I really sound like, I didn't want her to know my real voice in case something gets ugly or my voice gets recognised"

"Ok ok, whatever but I highly doubt you need to worry too much but I do agree we should keep up our guards" Serena paused.

"So umm what are we going to do about the single bed?"

Yuri just looked at her then realised what she meant and slightly flinched. I mean who could blame him, he usually travelled alone, let alone with a girl his age, but he had an idea.

"Don't worry I already thought of that we can take shifts to ensure nothing happens when we're asleep, you get the first shift and I'll wake you up in a couple of hours, that sound good for you?" Serena stretched and took her boots off.

"Sounds good to me goodnight Yuri, see you in a few hours" Yuri only nodded and gazed out the window letting her fall asleep.

Meanwhile…

"Sir I believe we have found the girl you've been looking for, we found her in a small town a few miles north of the capital" one of the obelisk force soldiers said remaining as composed as he could. The man in front of him was becoming more and more unhinged by the day, obsessed with finding this one single girl.

He couldn't be looking for an heir, he already had a son who's old enough to take the throne. Even then he doubted the king would hand over his title.

What was so special about finding these girls? He already had three of them why did he want them? Everyone who worked in the castle was curious but no one would dare ask to scared of what the king would do to them. He noticed the king walk up to him.

"Then where is she now, if you found her why isn't she in front of me now" the soldier stiffened by the king's voice, he sounded.. so threatening. He could barely get a word out but knew if he said nothing he would die. Was the king always like this? He remembered a time where the king cared greatly for all his people, until he suddenly changed.

He began by sending men out to find four identical girls and boys. He demanded the boys be slaughtered and that no harm should come to the girls. Then charging the people more taxes and becoming cruel and cold towards anyone he encountered. He even started medeling in dark magic and associating with a sorcerer he nothing off. The man spoke up.

"I apologise sir but we were attacked by an unknown man. I believe it was the midnight venom who's been attacking our troops, it was a miracle we survived...but I overheard them saying how they wanted to travel together to get to you and the girl wanted to save her sisters. We couldn't do anything the man used some sort of poison to paralyse us"

"ENOUGH EXCUSES!" the soldier looked down as he felt a sharp pain in his stomach...He had been stabbed. He fell to the ground and grasped at his wound...he was going to die...he didn't want to die.

"This is what happens to failures"

Everything went black.

"FATHER was that really necessary"

"I don't take well to excuses, you of all people should know this". His son frowned and turned away walking back to his chambers. This wasn't right and he knew this but he couldn't do anything about it...at least not yet.

The king wiped the blood off his blade and sheathed it once more processing the information. The other girl was still out there and coming straight to him, but he wasn't a patient man and he had waited long enough. He turned to his sorcerer and demanded his orders.

"I assume those monsters are ready for the field am I correct?"

"Yes sir"

"Good I need you to send those demons to find the girl but ensure nothing happens to her but make sure they kill the venom scum, I have had enough complications in my plan" the sorcerer nodded.

"Of course sire but if I may I suggest they also bring the battle beast with them" the king nodded.

"Whatever will get this done fastest now get them and send them on their way"

"I have already notified them now and if I'm correct they are already here" the king noticed three sets of glowing eyes from the corridor behind the other man.

"Good job doktor"

"Ahhh" Serena yelled as she shot up from bed. She had another night terror, the same one from her childhood when she lost her sisters. It never got easier but she learned to deal with it.

"You ok?" Serena jumped at the sound of Yuri's voice completely forgetting he was in the room. She didn't know if he cared but just in case she didn't want to worry him.

"Oh yeah I'm fine I just had a bit of a bad dream" she said as confidently as she could but Yuri noticed the hesitation and quiver in her voice.

"So um it's your turn to sleep right" she said as she rose from the bed allowing him to have the bed. Yuri shook his head and pointed to the window.

"After you went to sleep a decided to check the area. I determined that it was safe enough for both of us to get so sleep and I'm a light sleeper anyway" Serena tilted her head.

"Are you sure?" He must still be tired she could tell but the look in his eyes. Yuri nodded and stretched while walking over to the window to get some fresh air.

"Yes I assure you I am fine and we both got a few hours of sleep anyway, it's about five-thirty now" the girl sighed and allowed herself to stretch as well. Then she heard him ask something she didn't expect.

"Hey princess since we have time can you...tell me about your sisters? What were they like?"

Serena paused. She hadn't expected that but she was kind of happy he wanted to know.

"I had three identical sisters, at least in the face and eyes, everything else though couldn't be more different. Out of the four of us, I'm the youngest my sister's names are Yuzu, Rin and Ruri from youngest to oldest" Yuri nodded and was officially intrigued but also had a bit of a bitter taste in his mouth. She was lucky.

"What were they like?"

"Well Yuzu had the most hot-tempered out of us but the most outgoing and loved to entertain whoever she met she also could make flowers bloom with her magic. We all were born with magic but aside from healing magic all of us have different abilities". Yuri cut her off.

"So she has a similar power to me then" Serena only then realised he never told her what his magic was. Yuri noticed her expression and spoke up.

"I can rapidly grow and control plants, that's one of the ways I make the poisons I need to...do my job should I say". Serena frowned she could see that he was proud of what he was doing but killing isn't right. Even if it was the king himself.

"Why do you do it?"

Yuri looked at her.

"What?"

"Why do you kill people?" Yuri grimly smiled and wore an unreadable expression.

"Well... the king did something I could never forgive and I decided to get even, honesty it's kind of fun. But if it makes you feel better I only really go after nights and soldiers no one else is with my time" Serena snapped at him.

"I'm sorry if the king wronged you in some way but killing people isn't right. That makes you no better than him" Yuri froze at this statement and started having flashbacks to his childhood. That statement hurt more than he knew. He was nothing like that bastard and never would be...

"Don't say that" Serena shivered at the venom in his voice.

"Don't ever compare me to that bastard you hear me, never" he whispered, clenching his fists, knuckles turning white.

Serena looked at him seeing our upset he was. She didn't know the full story and she knew this but whatever had happened in his past was going to ruin him. She had seen his nice side even after just meeting him but she knew he was also a violent boy. Perhaps with time, she could help.

"I don't know what he's done to you and why it's so personal but it's not right and I think you know that" Yuri flinched. He was nothing like him and they deserved it. The men who served the king were just as bad as the man who commanded them...right. He looked at Serena and saw an expression he wished he hadn't seen.

She looked disappointed, and that disappointment was directed at him. He then saw the bison of three younger boys behind her and remembered his childhood...his brothers. What would they think? He was about to say something to Serena when they suddenly heard a crash coming from outside. They both rushed over to the window but being careful to avoid being seen.

It was a platoon of obelisk soldiers, about ten of them all armed standing outside. This wasn't just a visit they were looking for something, Yuri turned to Serena... or someone.

"We need to get out of here quick they must be looking for us" Serena nodded and grabbed her gear along with Yuri. They had to run...now. Then they heard yelling from outside.

"Midnight venom and Serena step out of this establishment now and no one will get hurt! Now you have seconds to get out here before we get you by force" they were lying if they came out maybe Serena wouldn't get hurt but Yuri defiantly would.

"Hell no we are not going out there let's go princess" Serena went to follow Yuri but then noticed at the corner of her eye the women who ran the inn. She was standing near the window and turned to look at her and she was surprised at what she saw. Her eyes looked..pained and were full of what she could only recognise as anger or hatred...but why?

"Come princess let's go or do you want to do you want to meet our friends outside?" Serena nodded and ran off after him, she would just have to ignore the women for now. She had more important things to do, like getting the hell out of this building undetected.

Yuri and Serena had made it to the back entrance of the building and saw that the soldiers had the building truly surrounded and of course, things had to get worse, great.

"Ok times up, men go now storm the building" shit.

Yuri reached for his knife getting ready to attack the next person to walk in the door only to be stopped by Serena.

"Don't it's not worth it, it's not too late please" Serena looked up the corridor and noticed to stairs.

"Quick up there, we can get out the window they won't notice if there near the doors" Serena grabbed Yuri's sleeve and pulled him towards the staircase rushing up just as they heard the door break down. Thankfully they hadn't been noticed, not yet anyway.

Yuri meanwhile was struggling internally. He could probably have this all dealt with if he attacked them now but Serena stopped him. He didn't know how to feel about that. He would think he would be mad for Serena or anyone for that matter bossing him around but he wasn't.

He saw the look on her face when she told him not to do anything. She was pleading with him and the look in her eyes said she was begging him to listen to her. She had said it wasn't too late and he could only assume that was to do with their earlier conversation. He wasn't like the king and he had always believed that but now he started to question himself. Maybe she was right. Serena then broke his train of thought.

"There, the window it's big enough for us to get through and there are no guards down there" Yuri sighed and nodded. Now was not the time to question his morels. That had to worry about getting out of here and fast.

Serena was the first one to climb out the window and jumped to a nearby tree and was soon followed by Yuri. They jumped to another higher branch to keep them hidden and further away from the royal guard. They sat down on a high branch and waited for the all-clear.

"Looks like we got out but considering how stupid the royal guard can be it wasn't too hard" Serena laughed.

"Yeah, I know it was...YURI LOOK OUT!" Serena pushed Yuri not enough to push him out of the tree but enough to prevent him from being shot an arrow. An arrow that was now penetrating the right side of her torso. Serena faltered, falling off the branch.

"SERENA NO!" Yuri shouted as he rushed to catch her. He didn't even notice his body moving all he could think about was getting to Serena in time. He caught her thankfully, but continued to fall to the ground but managed to land safely on his feet. What the hell was that? Yuri panicked and checked over Serena who was semi-conscious.

"Crap Serena don't fall asleep" Serena tilted her face and cracked a pained smirk.

"Don't worry I won't go down that easy" Serena raised her hand to her wound and a glowing turquoise light emanated from her hand.

"Remember I said I had healing magic, I guess now I can prove how strong it is" Yuri just stared. Damn... she was stubborn and strong. She still looked pale but had already stopped a majority of the bleeding, she was going to make it. They then noticed they were being surrounded.

"FOOL WE WERE TOLD NOT TO HARM THE GIRL!" So shooting Serena was an accident, Yuri thought. It was to be expected, they knew the king was looking for her so it made sense.

"I apologise sir I was aiming for the man, she jumped in the way" thank god he put his cloak on when they ran. At least they don't know what he looks like. Three of the men then started walking forward, they were trying to get to Serena, who was in no condition to fight. Yuri knew this and could blame her, even though she was still using her strength to heal herself.

He felt kind of guilty, it was still so unfamiliar to him but he felt guilty. That arrow was meant for him, why did she take that hit? Stupid, foolish girl.

"Come on just give us the girl and we'll let you go...maybe" oh so reassuring.

"Oh, really that statement just fills us with confidence. Also, I don't think this girl is going anywhere with you and I am defiantly not getting killed by you"

One of the men smirked, and through a knife knocking the hood off Yuri's cloak of his head. Crap, so much for not knowing what he looked like. Hopefully, they didn't know his alter ego was travelling with the girl.

"So you really think you can get away from all of us? You're outnumbered and injured" Yuri was about to pull out a knife and felt Serena shake her head. He remembered what Serena had said.

"Killing people isn't right. That makes you no better than him"

He wasn't like him. He would prove it...somehow. He was going to make a run for it and simple knock out the people who got in his way and maybe find a way to have some fun. He then saw a flash of realisation in the soldier's eyes. What?

"Well, well, well I can't believe it, what are the chances" Both Yuri and Serena were confused.

What was he talking about? Did he know who Yuri was? If so, that would be very problematic for both of them.

"Who knew one of the demon children escaped that fire, well aren't you a lucky one" Serena felt Yuri flinch. She didn't know was he was talking about but could tell something was severely wrong. She wanted to do something but she still felt weak, even though she had healed the wound she still lost a lot of blood.

"What do you mean fire…?" Yuri deep down knew what he was talking about but had to be sure.

"Oh come on surely you remember, if I remember correctly there were four of you. All identical and all of you were hated by our king so a small squadron was felt to find you and have you killed. So one night we started that fire. Honestly, it was pretty genius that way it looked like an accident".

Yuri started shaking, Serena could feel it but she couldn't tell why, whether it was out of rage or sadness she couldn't tell. This wasn't going to end well.

"You...you were there weren't you...you started that damn fire, you were then when I lost everything!" Yuri ended up screaming at the end of that statement and Serena couldn't blame him...she had no right to. He was just like her...just she was lucky, she knew her family was alive and didn't have to deal with the trauma of what he had been through. She couldn't didn't even know what he was going through.

"Oh don't worry about the past I'm sure they had a...possibly fast death but... I make so promises" that bastard was purposely trying to aggravate Yuri. That was his mistake.

"Oh, you are going to regret everything you bastard...you hear me" venom dripping from his voice, wearing a sadistic yet angry expression. Yuri went to lunge at him but was held back by Serena but being blinded by his rage he pushed her back, scratching her with one of his knives.

"Stay out of this and back off" Serena fell back and her face stung from the knife. She didn't just hurt physically, she knew that he was hurting but he had no right to strike her. When she was telling him killing was wrong she didn't just mean it just morally, but he knew it would eat away at him too. Whether or not he noticed if he continued going the way he was going he would lose himself completely. But something about the scratch on her face wasn't right.

"Men rush him now and grab the girl"

She looked up to see something she really wished she hadn't.

All of the men had rushed towards Yuri but that didn't phase him at all he just turned to the closest one and stabbed him in the stomach, kicking him backwards and then through knives at the other four men approaching him. None of the men got remotely close to either her or Yuri.

She was terrified. She had heard of his violent reputation but seeing it was completely different, and she hadn't seen this side of him. The only sides of him she had seen were that of a normal, kind, somewhat arrogant teenage boy. This wasn't the same person. Serena suddenly started feeling dizzy. She was a feeling why and raised her hand to cheek.

She then noticed Yuri approached the man who was responsible for the incident in his childhood hood who was now cowering in fear of the boy in front of him. The man lunged at Yuri but Yuri easily dodged and knocked the weapon out of his hand. Yuri then grabbed the man and threw him on the ground. Then reached for another knife

Yuri then slashed the man's shoulders and lightly scratched the man's neck...but not enough to kill him. Yuri then got up and walked backwards and "enjoyed the show".

"You're..you're let..letting me go" the man said hopefully looking at Yuri with pleading eyes, Yuri laughed then glared at the man in front of him, imagining how much his brother wanted to escape their fate.

"No way in hell am I letting go... I'm just letting my poison do the job for me." Right as Yuri said that the man felt fire spread through about his body. Yuri then turned away from the man and headed towards Serena, whose presence had been completely forgotten until now.

Yuri knew she would be ashamed and disappointed but he needed to do it, that man deserved it anyway. He could explain later even then her opinion didn't matter but subconsciously he knew better.

As he got closer to Serena he noticed something was wrong. She was unconscious and then noticed the scratch on her face. His eyes widened in horror and recalled way had happened minutes earlier.

The knife, the scratch...the poison.

He had poisoned her.

"SERENA!"

Well that is the end of chapter 4 and I'm pretty happy with how it came outand I would like to explain myself concerning the charactersjust in casepeople believe the character of manly Yuri seems a bit...inconsistent. Well, one of my reasonings is similar to me defending Serena. "They are teenagers" they are emotional and change opinions and overreact all the time. I would know, I am one (yay teenage years). So In my head, his actions aren't too inconsistent. Also from his character in the anime, his emotions and actions (mainly actions)changed at theflip of a coin. But I do see the characters are a bit weird. Don't come for me this is my first fanfic.

So thanks to everyone who reads and comments opinions and constructivecriticism and I hope you enjoyed this chapter. Can't wait for the next one. See ya and happy school holidays.
