The pale blue sky and slate mountains became a blur as time-shifted. For a second it looked as though she were watching the world spin. After an instant, they arrived at Team Rocket Headquarters.
She took a step back when they arrived outside of Giovanni's office. The few office workers in the hall looked on, clearly, they had forgotten their own affairs and were now perplexed by what had just occurred.
Giovanni shrugged before he turned and opened the door to his office. Missy smirked as she watched him dodge the whole affair. She took his lead.
She reached into her bag and picked up ninetails pokeball. Casually she released the pokemon next to her.
Giovanni had taken a seat at his desk. He gave a smug smile then said, "I wonder what they'll say about that."
Missy rolled her eyes as she took a seat, then muttered, "Rocket technology."
Giovanni laughed at this as he released his persian.
Ninetails leered ahead. You two are acting funny, Mistress.
If you had only seen our arrival, Missy replied.
If only I hadn't been stuck in my ball... she tapered off before she added, Mistress.
Persian cooed as he cocked a brow. The cat seemed to pay less attention when his master placed his hand upon his head.
" Jessie and James, they're Zager's people?" Missy inquired.
" They did a lot of work with him in Unova," he replied as he took the television remote from the drawer.
With the press of a button, the lights in the room became very dim. It was a sudden reminder of how secretive Giovanni truly was. Missy got up and shifted her chair to face the television as he turned his.
She sat down and looked at the screen, transmission incoming. The screen came to life and she came face to face with three onlookers.
They all saluted him which was something she found odd that the pokemon followed their humans to that degree, but was mostly indifferent to it.
As they lowered their salutes she observed the group. The first was a slender young woman with leering blue eyes and long red hair. She was sure it had to be hair but the way she had it tied up resembled a tail.
A young man that stood next to her seemed timid. His bright green eyes were wide and hidden behind his shaggy purple hair. Strangely these two were dressed differently from the other members of the team. They both wore white uniforms with that classic red R split down the middle.
Ahead of him, Jessie, she presumed accompanied with a Meowth. The pokemon's eyes were wide with excitement. She wondered what had gotten into the cat. A pokeball burst open from the young lady's backside and a wobbuffet burst out. The pokemon saluted Giovanni then cried out.
He nodded before he said, "I must say that I'm impressed, I assigned you the mission twelve hours ago and I'm already hearing back from you. I take it the mission was a success."
" The mission was a complete success, sir," Jessie said.
James was retrieving the SIM card from a video recorder. He placed the chip into a slot that she assumed must have been ahead of them. "We're sending the information now," he said.
" That ain't the only reason we're callin," a strange male voice said.
That was out of the ordinary, was there someone off-camera. She looked over to Giovanni and asked, "Is there someone else out there?"
Giovanni smirked, it was almost sinister and implied his humerus and evil nature. Missy leaned into her chair. " Oi."
He looked to the screen and calmly said, "Meowth, what else-"
Before he could get another word out. " A Meowth, seriously?"
With her words, the furry-faced pokemon peered into the screen. They gazed at one another for a moment.
" Yes boss," Meowth said.
Ninetails nudged her hand. That's really impressive. I wonder how he learned to do that Mistress.
" How in the hell? Oh my gosh-" she stopped herself there at the memory of her arrival. "How did you manage that? Oh, let me guess, Naman-Nat came up with something more useful. Did he use the radiation crystals to do this?"
Giovanni looked back at her, with confusion and amusement. He took a breath and regained his composure. " No, but if that is possible I'd like those schematics," he paused and took a deep breath but was interrupted before he could say more.
" Schematics, sir?" Jessie asked.
Meowth shook his head no. "That's not what we're here to talk about-"
James interjected, " She said-"
" She said to let Meowth do it," Jessie shot back.
Annoyed, Missy pressed the matter, " Would you just get on with it."
" That's right, now would you just shut up and let me say it," Meowth nearly shouted at them.
The cat cleared his throat and carried on, " Now as I was sayin, we gots our selves a small situation."
The cat looked at Missy but before he could utter another word Giovanni asked, " Then what is it?"
" That's what we're gonna show ya," the cat said as his forward claw reached out and pressed a button."
A video of her came onto the screen. She stood behind a large crystal control panel and a massive dome of glass. She recognized the room, they had definitely found The Ultimate Weapon.
As she watched herself fish her screwdriver from her pocket and wave it around, she felt as if she were involved in a television series of some kind. She squashed the thought in her mind, that was a ridiculous concept.
She looked at the readings on her screwdriver then said, "Still needs a key, no surprise there, I've never seen anything like this."
The view shifted to a dirt room buried deep in the ground. Wires hung from the ceiling. The camera panned back over to her as Meowth jumped onto the panel.
" Whoa, just wait until the boss gets a look at this," he said.
Ninetails looked up at him and yelped. Missy spun around and looked directly at the camera. "Are you filming this?"
Shakily the camera panned over to a large steel door. The area fell silent as the lens zoomed in.
James whimpered. " Did you hear that?"
" Shhh," Missy whispered.
" We defeated-" Jessie whispered Missy threw out her arm and stopped the conversation.
Missy watched herself look into the camera. As her screwdriver lit up she said, "Shows over."
The video went black. After a moment, the screen returned to normal.
Giovanni leered at the screen then asked, " What happened?"
" The pictures will clarify that sir," Jessie said.
" Well, we got asked to, or rather told by Missy that she needed to meet us outside of Geosenge at eleven-thirty PM yesterday," he explained.
Giovanni's eyes widened with a hint of surprise. His eyes leered over to her then back to the screen. " Tell me what happened?"
" Well, she said it was gonna be tricky..." Meowth tapered off and put a claw to his mouth. " Oh ya, we wouldn't be here without her."
" She really-" James started, but Jessie pushed a finger to her lips.
" Did you get some great shots of me?" Missy playfully asked.
" As a matter of fact-"
Missy cut him off. " Did your boss tag along?"
" No, it was too dangerous of a mission," Meowth explained.
" Okay, then what did I say when I arrived?" she asked.
" That the boss sent ya," he explained.
She looked over to Giovanni who was slightly amused. He nodded as he regained his composure. " Any idea when you might be back?"
Missy mused over the past time and circumstance. She found it a bit odd for her to be going out on a mission. Still, she supposed there was little she could do about it now. Considering she had cemented herself in that instant.
Geosenge that was the town Xerosic had brought up at the Luminos Laboratory. It was best for her to see what they were up to.
" I'd say sometime around now," she replied.
She got up out of her chair when Giovanni said, "Missy."
She twirled around and faced him." Yes?" she inquired.
" I expect you to come back safely," he softly said.
She rolled her eyes at this. "You're talking to a girl who took out an entire squad of your own people."
" My people aren't theirs," he slowly said.
" Right," she snarkily replied, she took a half breath and regained her composure. "I understand your concern, but believe me they have much more to worry about." She punched in the coordinates as ninetails leaned into her side. " See you in a few."
With the press of a button, the shadows melded into a midnight sky. The leaves appeared to spin around them before they rustled then returned to the wind. Their arrival was a dazzling burst of light that blended well with the light of the moon and all of its luster.
" What was that?" a voice called out, Missy had little doubt it was James.
Ninetails stepped ahead, her fur shined magnificently in the moonlight. Once again she found herself awestruck by the beauty of the pokemon.
" It sounded like it came from over here," Meowth said as the surrounding grass rustled.
Jessie stepped out of the shadows her eyes widened when she spotted ninetails. Meowth quickly took her side and James wasn't far behind.
Looks like they've spotted us, Missy said.
" Looks like our luck's finally turned around," Jessie said. "With a pokemon like that, I'm sure to be the-"
Meowth jumped up and knocked her over the head and said, " That pokemon's going straight to the boss."
" Meowth's right Jessie if we pull off this mission and bring that ninetails back we're sure to get a promotion," James said.
Ninetails frowned and yelped at the trio. Meowth shook his head and replied, "Nobody asked you."
Missy stepped out of the shadows. "Nobody asked me either."
Jessie smiled as she reached for a pokeball. " Will never have to. Prepare for trouble."
" And make it double," James said.
Missy shook her head she didn't have time for this. She drew her screwdriver as they continued.
" To protect the world from devastation," Jessie said.
" To-" Missy promptly interrupted James as she shot at his foot.
" Hey that's not fair," Meowth said as he lept up at her.
She twirled around and knocked the cat back with her umbrella. "Nothing about this fight is fair."
Jessie reached out and caught the pokemon then growled, "You're going to be sorry you ever messed with Team Rocket."
Missy rolled her eyes at the empty threat. She reached down, with the press of a button, she teleported behind the trio. "You're going to be sorry that you ever meddled with me."
Well this escalated quickly, I know their ideots but aren't we supposed to be-
Not while I'm making a point, Missy interjected as the trio turned to face her.
" I just happen to know that your boss would be more than-" she began.
Missy was abruptly cut off by Jessie. There was a firey tinge of anger in her eyes when she put her gloved finger into her chest. " More than happy to see you out of the way."
Missy sneered at this she had enough of it. She reached into her bag and drew her wallet. Promptly she slapped the girl in the face with it.
Jessie glowered at her and she let out a frustrated sigh in return. Missy placed her hand on her hip then said, "Take a look."
Jessie opened the wallet James took her side. Meowth jumped onto his shoulder and looked down.
" The Master Card?" Meowth inquired.
" I wonder where that's accepted?" James mused.
" No!" Missy shouted. "Oh my gosh! Check identification much?"
Jessie's eyes looked over to the paper, her expression became puzzled. " You're Missy, The Independent Head of Research and Development for Team Rocket?"
The title was more fitting than an ally, she supposed it didn't matter, what did was the fact that they believed it. That was a good thing, they clearly weren't aware that she was a time-traveling Time Lord, and it was better to keep it that way.
" Yes," she said. "Your boss has sent me here to join you on your mission."
" We just got off the phone with our boss, he didn't say he was sending anyone else," Meowth said, his implication was one of a lack of trust.
" There was a last-minute change of plans, told me he needed me at Geosenge to see what Team Flare is up to," she explained.
She thought about her mention of Giovanni. It was too soon to bring up this concept and decided to set that aside for the moment. She knew the answer but thought it would bring about more questions than needed answering at this time.
Her insight into the mission was enough for them to soften their gaze. Steadily Jessie handed her back her wallet.
" I can't believe the boss would send someone who isn't field ready," she said.
James began to walk ahead. " It's not like we can change his mind, just do us a favor and stay behind us."
Meowth caught up with him and added, " Yeah, these missions really aren't for the sciency kind of folks."
Jessie briskly caught up with them. "Not unless they happen to be Doctor Zager, he could pull this off."
Missy and ninetails took their lead and began to follow behind them. " Zager, the old man?" she inquired.
" He might be old, but nothing stops him," James replied.
" I wonder why the boss didn't send Doctor Zager?" Jessie mused.
This is going to be a very long walk Mistress, Ninetails dowery said, she sounded more annoyed than anything else.
Not if I can help it, Missy replied as she put her screwdriver away.
She thought over the calculations to Geosenge. They were close, about an hours walk. That was an hour too long, hastily she entered the coordinates for an area close to the entrance of the town. Stay at my side, we've got some traveling to do.
Thank you Mistress, she jovially said.
"You're going to learn what a joy it is to be stuck with me," Missy said as she caught up with the trio.
She placed her arms around Jessie and James, her action forced them to stop. As they looked at one another unsure of what to do she felt ninetails rub her leg. Telepathically she pressed the teleport button on the vortex manipulator and they were off.
Seconds later they arrived outside of the stone gate to Geosenge. Jessie and James were quick to break away from her.
Meowth looked around. "What just happened?"
Jessie spun around and faced Missy. "You did this."
What a joy, I did us all a favor...she changed her focus from ninetails to the team, then replied, " Your right, now we can get the mission started."
James peered at the vortex manipulator and asked, " What is that thing?"
" Travel Tech," she lied, not wanting to bother with the whole truth.
Meowth peered at her for a moment then said, "Wait a minute, I remember you. The boss was lookin for ya."
Jessie leaned over and took a better look at Missy. " Your right, there was a pretty penny out for her..." she grew quiet as she looked over the information.
James pulled out a small cell phone-like device, for all she knew it was a cell phone. It mattered little to her.
He looked at the device then at her. "Says she was captured the reward was paid out, she's in alliance with the team."
The trio let out a sigh at the news. Missy scoffed at the information. " Now that you know better can we get on with it-" she gestured to the town-" there's a mission for us to complete."
Jessie huffed at the response but before she could get any words out she paused. It had to be for a good reason, after a second it became apparent, someone was approaching from the town.
Hurridly the group ducked behind a nearby bush. Missy peeked through the branches, two members of Team Flare stepped outside of the town. Both men peered around the area, their eyes concealed by red sunglasses. She wondered how they managed to see anything, they were ridiculous.
" I thought I heard something," the first said.
" Probably just pokemon," the other replied.
" I don't know, Xerosic said to be on the lookout for anyone suspicious, said Team Rocket was spotted in Kalos the other day," he explained.
She peered at the pair, at their current position she knew they would be found quickly. Not wanting to be discovered she came up with a plan. She looked over to the trio, she doubted they could pull it off.
She bit her lip she was overthinking these things. She drew her screwdriver and with a wave disabled their radios. After briefly double-checking the area, she knew that there were only two.
Stay with them, she ordered ninetails.
She stepped out of the bushes and twirled in the moonlight before she faced the pair. She put her hand up as if to give the impression she was surprised.
" Oh, I'm sorry I didn't happen to see you boys," Missy playfully apologized.
They looked to one another before one asked, " We didn't happen to see you. What's a lovely young lady doing out here all alone?"
" It's dangerous in the dark," the other said.
" Dancing in the moonlight," Missy replied as he reached for his radio she could sense it was over. She aimed at him immediately and shot him in the chest. The other reached for a pokeball, but his efforts were in vain. Silently he fell to the ground.
She placed her screwdriver back into her jacket and looked to the team. "That was simple."
" Let me guess, more tech," Meowth muttered as he stepped out of the bushes.
As ninetails, Jessie, and James followed her she held her tongue. The last thing she needed was an argument.
" I'll let your boss tell you about that one, we need to get in there before they go looking for them, " Missy explained.
Jessie nodded in agreement, but James held back and looked over the fallen agents. " If there weren't so many of us we could disguise ourselves."
Jessie nodded in agreement then looked to Missy. "James is right, we're going to need you to stick this one out."
Missy pondered the notion of hiding in her tardis then looked to them and said, "You know that isn't a half-bad idea."
" What are you going to do?" Jessie asked.
She let out a sigh and walked over to their fallen opponents. She picked up his arm and got ready to drag him. "I've got a plan, let's get them off the road."
With those words, the four of them dragged the unconscious Team Flare members deep into the forest. She turned her back as they dressed and undressed the men. After a few moments, they announced that they were ready.
Missy turned and faced them, she didn't know how they did it, but they looked quite fashionable in the Team Flare attire.
" Alright, so now that we're mission-ready I'm going to disappear, but before I do that I'm going to need you to hold on to something," Missy explained as she fished the tardis from her purse. "I need you to hold on to this."
She presented the tardis to them, they looked it over. Curiously and almost half excitedly James asked, "Oh I knew it, it's a powerful pokemon right?"
She envisioned James throwing the tardis in battle. She didn't know how well that would play out in its current state. She supposed she could just transform it at a whim, still, she was bothered by this.
" Is it a bug?" Meowth asked.
" Maybe it's a charizard-"
Annoyed Missy cut off Jessie, "No, I'm going to hide in there."
The notion was enough to bring about laughter to the trio.
" Are you a pokemon?" Jessie asked.
" No," she dryly replied. " It's new technology, it's something your boss is quite fond of, we wouldn't want to disappoint him now, would we? Just put it in your pocket and whatever you do don't throw it."
James tenderly picked up the ball and placed it into his pocket. He looked to Jessie there was something on their mind.
" Missy, could we happen to put anyone or any pokemon into this?" Jessie asked.
Missy shrugged then replied, " I don't see why not."
The trio smiled at the news before Jessie asked, " Could we borrow this? We've been after this twerp and his pikachu-"
" No," she said not wanting to hear the request.
James looked on his eyes were full of hope. " But if we brought that pikachu to the boss, we would-"
" Nope, sorry but this one's classified," she said once more.
Jessie growled in frustration. "We'll just have to ask the boss about it."
Missy snickered at the remark. " Oh believe me he has," she paused as she stopped a fit of laughter from coming on. " Common kids we've got a mission to do."
With those words, she teleported herself and ninetails into the tardis. She arrived in a safe room.
She looked at the many photographs of the various places she had visited and conquered. The violet walls were complemented by shelves of black oak separated a massive monitor that encompassed the wall. She took a seat in a plush black recliner and had the tardis send a cup of black tea to a table near her.
Ninetails looked up then said, The stars, they almost seem real.
Missy looked up and glanced at the ceiling. The simulation the tardis presented was incredible, it could have been a masterpiece on its own.
Just the tardis catering to my true desires, she dowery explained as she dashed away any thoughts of travel beyond this world. Someday you'll see them for yourself.
Telepathically she turned on the monitor and briefly witnessed the trio bicker about a pikachu and her mysterious disappearance. She turned the television to mute as she relaxed in her chair.
As she watched them make their way into town she was grateful that she had this moment of peace.
