Throught their Eyes
Light wasn't remotely surprised when the police has started a search in capturing him (or KIRA, as the media calls him). What he didn't expect was for the world's notorious detective, L, showing himself in a LIVE television broadcast for the world to see.
For some reason, Light felt angry. He felt loathsome when he saw a man, dressed in suits, speaking as L.
No, it couldn't be L. L made him happy, not angry. L didn't like being on TV anyway, so what made this case so damn special that he decided to? L is certainly not stupid (the thought itself makes Light wants to gag). L should've, would've, noticed the very obvious features of his killings; that all of the faces and names are all broadcasts— so why the hell is he showing the world his face AND name?
Consumed by his rage and anger, Light grabbed a pen and opened his Death Note, where the name, 'LIND L. TAILOR', is spelled in big, bold letters. He counted until 35 and glances at the TV, where the (presumably) imposter grunted in pain before falling, unmoved.
So, it was his real name...
Two guards came in and carried Lind's body away.
Then, the static.
"I— I had this tested just in case, but I never thought it was real...", the voice shook. It was laced with some sort of distortions and muffler, making it hard for Light (or impossible for others) to pin-point L's emotions. However, Light is sure there were some sorts of hesitations in them.
"Kira... it seems like you can kill someone just by seeing their names and faces without even being in the room", he continues. "I wouldn't believe it before witnessing it with my own eyes...".
"Kira, listen to me. If you indeed killed the man Lind L. Tailor, I'll let you know that you just killed a man who was due to be executed today. That was not me."
Light was starting to wonder whose name he just written— he couldn't care less that it was some criminal. The thought that the man impersonated L is infuriating enough.
"The criminal was captured by the police secretly. You wouldn't have heard of him on television, nor the internet... it looks like even you couldn't get your hands on these types of information".
At the background, Light could hear Ryuk chuckles, giving a snarky (and unnecessary) remark, "He got you there, Light-o".
"But I assure you— L is real. I do exist!".
"So now... try and kill me!".
Light was fazed— the sounds of L taunting him, mocking him is all over the place, as he was frozen and, for once, unsure to do. This isn't like those killings he could easily cover with the help of bleach, or the type of case he could Google and swept under the rug, no. He couldn't easily search for L, as the man practically doesn't exist. His own father had stated numerous times that any information about L won't show up on any databases that ever exist.
This man is truly invincible.
"It seems like you can't...", the voice hums, as if amused, "So there are people that you can't kill. You've given me a pretty useful hint".
"I'll tell you something good in return as a reward".
"We lied about this being a LIVE broadcast worldwide. It is only being broadcasted in the Kanto region of Japan", claimed L which is, undoubtedly, true, "I planned to broadcast this at different areas and time, but it seems like I no longer need to. I now know that you're in Kanto".
This L guy is pretty good...", Ryuk laughs. Light has to agree— it's not everyday someone could pull a double checkmate. Although he was shaking, he was also mesmerised (and terrified) by the capabilities of L's mind. Not only he has proven the existence of Kira, he has deducted of Kira's whereabouts all in a single move— and it's not like Light could move out (he's still a student).
"Your first victim was the phantom killer in Shinjuku", stated L, now growing confident, "The police overlooked this case because it was a small incident. Of all the high-profile criminals who died of heart attacks, his crime was the least serious. In addiction to that, the incident was only reported within Japan. I use that information to deduce this much"
"You're in Japan, and your first victim was no less than a guinea pig"
"We made the first announcement in Kanto due to its large population, and we are lucky to find you here. To be honest, I never thought it would go this well".
"Kira, it seems like it won't be too long before I sentence you to death. I'm curious how you commit the murders, but it certainly won't be a problem as you'll tell me everything when I catch you".
"We will meet again, Kira".
The TV went back to normal, thus ending the L broadcast. Light had to take a breather— L... is going to be here soon, in Japan, to profile him no less! He was screwed if he doesn't play his cards right, but damn if it didn't send thrills right through his spine!
Light was downright aesthetic!
Light let out a laugh, to which Ryuk couldn't help but to scratch his head in utter confusion. Noticing this, Light turned around, "Couldn't you see, Ryuk? Don't you see how big this is? This is great!".
"Finally... things are finally looking up...".
L let out a relief sigh as soon as the broadcast is over, turning to sip her tea which is beginning to be cold. The wet sensation that enters her throat was relieving, especially when it has become dry after that particularly long speech she had for Kira.
She watched as the body of Lind L. Tailor being put in a body bag before it was carried to the corpse house to be thoroughly cleaned. She had Watari marked her schedule to visit his grave and pray for him and his sacrifices— the man had agreed to help her, as he seems to despise Kira, and had died during the war. He had earned her respect.
"L", called Watari, standing behind her as he waits for his next order, "Now that you have proven that Kira existed and is currently residing in Japan, what is your next move?".
"I will request to work with a proper investigation team in Japan, and see if Kira could get some leaked information...", she claimed, "By then, the police would start to mistrust me and the amount of people would be decreased. I will then see if Kira still could get the information from us, and then conduct a house investigation".
She turned towards her tea, frowning as the sugar cubes she just put isn't dissolve.
Handing Watari her cup, she pouted, "Do you mind making more tea, Watari? I believe mind already went cold".
"Certainly, ma'am. I'll prepare them right this instance".
L was right. Days upon the broadcast, the Kira Task Force members were reduced astronomically, leaving about six officers in total. All of them whom left were either too scared to continue the investigation, fearing the Kira might kill them next as he seems to not hesitate to kill those who oppose him, or doesn't trust L as she had request FBI agents to investigate them without their knowledge.
Of course, none of the current Task Force members are at all satisfied; the demanded to see L in person, seeing as he seems to be untouchable since no one has ever seen his face or know his name, and that it's not fair that they're the only ones risking their lives for this. To their surprise, L agreed.
They were brought to Park Hyatt, Japan's most expensive hotel and were told many procedures in order to protect L's security. In their minds, they prepared many descriptions of a man— they were a bit intimidated that they're going to see one of the most authorised of all time, but recollect themselves and decided to put a brave face.
Nothing could prepare them the moment they walked in through the door, and saw a woman.
L is a woman.
She was small— sharp features compliment her delicate ones. Broad shoulder doesn't seem at all weird with her petite frame, and the way she hunched her backs made her cleavage less visible (they tried not to stare for too long). Her eyes are calculating and had dark eye bags under, making it seems bigger. Her hair wasn't brushed, not even close; there were few strands sticking out, and it landed softly on her shoulder, though it did reach until her back.
In other words, the woman before them, L, is exquisite, in her own bizarre ways.
"Hello, I am L", the woman, L, stated nonchalantly. She looked amused by their shocked expression (who won't honestly?). It was rather offensive, but she let it slide. She watched as Soichirou coughed before pulling his ID, introducing himself.
"I'm Soichirou Yagami, chief of the NPA".
One by one of them followed, as if instructed. She narrowed her eyes, confused, before pulling her hand to shape like a gun, directing it at them, screaming, "BANG!".
"What the hell was that?!", yelled Aizawa, obviously unimpressed and not amused by her 'welcoming' gesture that she thought funny.
"If I was Kira, you'd be dead, Soichirou Yagami, chief of NPA", claimed L, as if stating the obvious. "Let's all value our lives here. Kira could kill anyone simply by looking at their names and faces, so please don't go around and state your name".
"R-right...".
"Now, all of you care for some tea?".
"I am L"
"What"
