Strangers
As soon as the reports of Kira's killings has been made public and apparent, L has forbad for the entire Task Force to inform of those who were in confinement, even Soichirou Yagami himself. She has volunteer to go through each killings single-handedly, refusing any help even if the workload is wearing her out.
'No...', L thought, 'These killings didn't match neither the first nor the second Kira's MO...'.
All of these killings has been all revolving around businessmen. There were a few foul play here and there, but businesses in general. None of these crimes ever matched the severity to be punish by the first Kira (Light) as he seems to only kill criminals who were convicted, and it didn't match up the second Kira's target as it was made in absolute secrecy (not to mention it wasn't debuted in any sorts of magazines nor the news, so there is no way for the second Kira to get their hands on these sorts of information).
'Coincidently, these killings appears not too long after they lose their memories...', she thought, 'Misa lose her memories first, then Light came confessing of being Kira. Then, he lost his memories, and now a third Kira appears...'.
All of these are too coincidental to be, well, a mere coincidence.
'The second Kira mentioned something about Shinigami and... the eyes...', she reminisced, 'Perhaps these Kiras did use some sort of supernatural agent to assist them in these series of killings, and those powers comes along with the memory of it existing'.
Her theory, despite being outrageous, sounds fitting.
However, there is something she needs to test...
"Mogi-san, please retrieve Yagami-san from his cell", she said, "I need a little bit of favour from him...".
Light was gobsmacked when he was suddenly escorted out of his cell, the chains remained cuffed around his wrists. 'Weird...', he thought. L has showed no interest in letting them go anytime soon (judging the fact that she had bluntly lied to him about the newest strings of killings. Ryuk has confirmed that Rem has indeed pass the ownership onto someone else). It was such a sudden move that Light is unsure of what to feel.
That's when he spotted Misa over the distance.
"Light!", she screams, quickly rushing over to him. For the first time in 50 days period, Light finally took a good look on Misa Amane, and how her confinement has taken a toll over her; her golden blonde hair were brushed straight, kept and groomed well despite her given condition for the past few months. She seems to lose a couple of pounds, as the white button ups she's wearing seems to swim over her petite body. Her eyes were sunken, probably from the sleep deprivation, though it wasn't as horrible as he initially thought...
All and all, Misa Amane was in better condition than L seems to prescribed her to be.
"Oh my God! How are you feeling, Light?", she asked, concern overwhelming in her tone, "Are you okay? Did they do anything perverted to you? Gosh— you look so thin! How have they feed you?".
'Quit smothering me', Light grimly thought, 'You're not my mother'.
"I'm fine, Misa...", he sighed, pulling the best expression he could muster to show concern, "How about you? How are you? Are you good?".
Misa didn't reply verbally. Instead, she could only let out a shaky nod. She was in pain, but she's okay now. Light is with her, and that is all that matters.
"What is going on, Light?", Misa asked, breaking the silence as soon as they were over checking each other's well-beings. For the first time, Light could on shrugged. "I... I really don't know, Misa. People suddenly came to my cell and told me to wait here!".
"Is it over?", Misa asked hopefully, "Have they finally realised that they got the wrong people? That we're innocent?".
Light was a bit taken back by her statement. Right. Misa has forfeited her ownership, which means she has no sorts of memories regarding of the existence of Shinigamis and Death Notes, nor does she aware of her past as the second Kira. He forgot about that.
"I... guess so", he claimed, trying to divert the attention another subject. He knows for a fact that is far from it— he knows that his beloved L is aware of it, too. L isn't letting them go as innocent civilian. That woman is already too confident with her lead (which, he couldn't blame her. She was right after all). Light knew that she's not done with either of them, but what he doesn't know is why the hell are they both set free.
All of the sudden, there was a light from the distant, blinding them. It seems like it came from a peculiar source, which then were confirmed as the two headlights of his father's car.
"Dad!". "Yagami-san!".
"You two!", he said, firmly, "What are you two still standing here for? We have no time to waste! Quickly, get inside the car!".
Having no other choice, the two silently obliged. Light was unsure why he was told to sit at the backseat specifically, alongside with Misa, and his cuffs were still locked. 'It's either he doesn't have the keys himself, or he's doing this on purpose...', Light promptly thought as his father pulled up from the driveway and into the highway, at a very concerning speed nonetheless.
"Dad, what's going on?", Light asked after a moment of silence. Soichirou doesn't look too good... his hair, that's usually well groomed, was a mess. He was reeked of cigarettes smell (has he been smoking? Light thought his father has dropped the addiction) and his uniform, which were usually ironed and well-put, has wrinkles all over. It was a clear sign of distress, and Light doesn't think he enjoys it all that much.
"Ryuzaki... L... has found the concrete evidence proving that the both of you were, in fact Kira", Soichirou claimed, as he stares Light dead in the eyes through the mirror. Light gasped. Has he failed to consider something? Did L managed to come down to such conclusion with a single speck of dust? Light could've sworn he had swept everything under the rug! Just how did she managed to catch on so quickly?!
"Wh... what?", Misa squeaked out, which were thoroughly ignored. Soichirou hummed, "Upon informing this to INTERPOL, they request that the both of you are to be executed without a proper trial".
"WHAT?!", Light felt like screaming, "Hang on, dad! I... we didn't do anything! We're innocent!".
His pleas were ignored as Soichirou then drove to a nearby bridge, parking there. He pulled out a gun, and said, "Light, I... I couldn't bare if you were to be executed publicly. I couldn't stomach the fact that my son, my own boy, whom I raised turned out to be a heartless killer... so I'll take that task upon myself, and kill you as a failed father".
Soichirou pulled out a gun, eyes glaring daggers. He aimed it directly at Light's head, his finger dancing at the trigger.
"Hang on, dad!".
"Light... from one murderer to another... I'll see you in hell...".
"STOP IT!!!".
BANG!!!
Clink!
Well that took one hell of a turn.
Light stood silently as he examined the 7ft long chains dangles by his wrist, the other end connecting himself to none other than L, the greatest detective of the century. He was left speechless when the stunt his father pulled is nothing but a mere test, a hoax, to prove a theory L came up with.
To say that he was shocked would be an understatement; he was downright gobsmacked!
L was really meant for him!
"Uh...", Light spoke, after a while remaining silent, "Is this really necessary, Ryuzaki?", he asked, lifting his cuffed wrist. After having them cuffed for weeks on end, the area around it almost starting to feel numb. If he spent anymore time with them, he might as well creates an attachment with it.
"I'm not doing this because I want to", she claims. "Trust me. I don't go chaining myself to a suspect of mine on my leisure. I'm not enjoying this either. It's a necessary sacrifice in order to further this case, and to prove of Light-kun's innocence".
Light simply hums, begging to differ. If there's one thing that he knows about the detective, it's that she's not doing this because she wants to prove his innocence. It's quite the contrary, actually. The most likely scenario is that L wanted to monitor him up close, which he has no problem with; it'd only fair if he gets to do the same.
"Hmph!".
Unfortunately, not everyone has the right to remain silent.
"Pervert! You just want to see us both kissing right?!", accused Misa, pointing a finger directly towards L who simply nibbles on her finger, unbothered by the accusation. "Or you simply want Light all to yourself! That's the case, isn't it? You just want to steal Light from Misa-Misa!".
"Misa-san, trust me that I have no intention of interfering you two's relationship", claimed L, "And I'm not going to tell you two to do anything. You two could have full-on intercourse right in front of me, and I would just turn around".
Misa gasped, completely appalled by the suggestion. Her cheeks reddened by the thought of her and Light, naked under the mattress; she imagined that Light would be a beast in bed— but the idea of the perverted hag sitting at the distance watching their every moves made the fantasy crumble. Misa grumbles, hating the idea.
"You pervert!", she screamed, "How could you suggest such a thing?!".
"Once again, Misa, I'm just telling you that I won't stop the both of you from resuming your affection towards each other", L interferes, holding a hand up, "I'm not telling you to do anything".
"You—", Misa screeched, before popping an idea. Smirking, she latched onto Light's hand, giving a sly remarks. "I bet you're into voyeurism! I'm right, aren't I?! You just want to see me and Light kissing and stuff so you could see yourself in my place!", she claims, holding onto Light tighter, "Well, too bad for you! I got to Light first, and he's aaaaaaallllllll mine! And Light is a loyal person!".
L couldn't help but to roll her eyes at the constant accusation. Throughout her time as an all-time detective, L has dealt with some of the worst insults out there. Whore, bitch, cum-slut; you name them. Misa's continuous insults are mere leeches to her thick skin, though it doesn't mean L is willing to put up with them. It's starting to get to her nerves, and she's not sure how to make her stop.
With no other solution came to mind, L turn to the only alternative she could ever think of.
Light Yagami.
"Light-kun, please shut Misa-san up", grumbled L. Light was surprised when the tone L used came off as whiny, though it doesn't take a genius to figure out why. L had a huge, enormous bags under her eyes, indicating that she has gone on days without sleep. The detective is probably beyond exhausted, and having to deal with Misa's antics right off the bat is probably draining whatever energy she had left. With that in mind, Light turned towards Misa, his voice stern and his expression cold.
"Stop it, Misa", scolded Light, as he grabs Misa's small wrists and unlatched himself from her. "You should be thankful that you're still here, you know? It has been established by the Task Force that it was you who sent those tapes to the Sakura TV", he was still pissed about that, but he could deal with the anger later. "Stop bothering Ryuzaki for doing her work".
Unable to control his anger, he sneers at her, "It was thanks to her that you're not writhing in prison now, or worse, executed".
That ought to do the trick— because Misa is no longer yapping. For what its worth, she looks mortified.
'Good', Light thought, barely held a smirk from his face. It was a good look, suited for anyone who's below him; he loves it when someone looks terrified, reminding him of the same thrill during those years he was experimenting— the sheer enjoyment of someone's defeat, realising of the fate, and their sense of self is slowly deteriorating before their eyes. It was a sense of power that provoked adrenaline coursing through his body, when he watched his prey's eyes overflow with dread, hoping for their demise.
It was utterly delicious, and Light couldn't wait for L to bear the same face!
However, he knew that L is far more different than Misa, a two opposite side of the same coin; Misa is bound to die, one way or another, just as his other minions who fails to either carry out his orders flawlessly or failed to entertain him any longer. They were disposable, completely replaceable. Light could erase their entire existence whenever he wishes, as their self-worth in his perfect utopia is being measured by how useful they are in expanding his agenda.
Light is sure they won't object, either. After all, what noble deaths are there other than being perish in the hands of God? Especially after they failed him
.
Those people deserve to die.
L, on the other hand, won't die. She is to be his bride, his wife, his consort. L will only die when he ran out of sand in his glass of time. Even if she fights against him, oppose him, Light will only love L all the same, as he is merciful. It will take up patience to get her to know her place, of course, but it'll all be worth it in the end.
Good things come to those who wait, and Light will wait until the end of time to get to L.
Snapping out of his thoughts, he was greeted by the sights of L beginning to brief of their next moves against Kira. It was a careful and thorough plan— it never ceases to amaze him just how calculative and mighty L is, as she stands high on guard.
Light couldn't wait to rip her apart, breaking her down and build her back up again however he desires her to be. He couldn't wait to strip her off her defence and put her in an unfamiliar situation where only he could help her, and for her to be dependant of him. Light genuinely couldn't wait for the day L would fall on her knees, cowering by his feet.
Light couldn't wait to be the centre of L's world, whether she likes it or not.
