Chapter 10
Rassilon and the Stranger struggled, both trying to overpower the other, neither giving the other time to do so. Rassilon's hands tried wrapping around the other man's throat, but the Stranger managed to pull Rassilon's arms away from him. He proceeded to kick Rassilon's legs off balance, only to fall off balance himself.
This is getting bad, thought The Doctor. They'll end up killing each other!
Trapping the Stranger in a grapple, Rassilon began to drag his struggling enemy closer and closer to the only window in the Dark Tower.
"No."
The Doctor rushed forward, only to pass right through the two conflicting Time Lords.
"I thought I told you already," sighed The Master. "This is a memory. It can not be altered."
Once again, The Doctor could only watch as Rassilon began to try and push his foe over the edge of the tower.
"You will not stop me!" snarled the corrupt Time Lord. "You have failed! Did you really think you could beat me in my own fortress?"
The Stranger smirked despite his dire situation.
"No. I just needed you to get close to the edge."
And with that he broke Rassilon's grip, causing both Time Lords to fall from the window.
The world changed yet again.
This time, they were in a round, dimly lit room. The room was occupied by three people, two men and a woman. The men sat quietly as the woman spoke.
"You know why we are here." she said. "Lord Rassilon has been deposed, and a new reign has come to Gallifrey. Those peacemakers and law givers have destroyed The Great One's vision of the future. But we who remain loyal to Lord Rassilon, we shall continue his work."
The Men nodded in agreement.
"The New Time Lord order speaks of non-interference, but we know better. It is our right as the Lords of Time to do as we see fit. The…"
The memory suddenly became static, as if the data were corrupted somehow.
"...preaches that we must observe the universe rather than rule. If we can not…"
More static.
"… rule from a throne, then we…"
Static.
"…from the shadows. We ..."
Static.
"...Division!"
As the scene faded away, The Doctor turned to The Master. So many questions. Was he lying when he said he didn't know where the Child was? An event of such importance would have been remembered by history, right? Why was that last memory full of static? "Division"?
The Master just looked at her. The Doctor fixed her former friend with a hardened stare.
"What was that last bit?" She asked.
"The foundation of another Time Lord secret," he replied. "At least, that's what I assume."
"What do you mean 'you assume'?"
"I tried to look further," he explained. "But all references and information regarding this 'Division' were nowhere to be found. It's as if all the information was deleted. Or, maybe it was never there."
She looked into the void of the Matrix, lost in thought. A secret Time Lord Division? From what she saw, it sounded like their goal was to break the Non-Interference Policy? Wait. If that was true, and they had interfered with other worlds, how much history was altered to suit their needs? How many worlds had they influenced? Was it possible that…
The Master's chuckling broke her train of thought. She looked back and realized she had been vocalizing her thoughts.
" What?" She asked. "What's so funny?"
The Master gave her a cruel smile.
"Oh Doctor," He said. "Sometimes, you are just too easy."
Suddenly, The Doctor found herself wrapped in chains.
