Chapter 2
The Wildebeest Implementation
The girls were at the public washroom with Amy trying to engage in stall-to-stall chitchat with Penny. Unfortunately, Penny wasn't into it.
"She always this crabby when she urinates?" Amy opens her stall and went to wash her hands beside Bernadette.
"We're really not that close."
Penny opens her stall as well and joins them. "Screw it. I'll go later."
"And I'll be right by your side."
Bernadette saw an uncomfortable Penny and saw it as an opening to talk about a development she heard about last week.
"So, Amy... How's everything with you and that sexy toddler?"
Amy was taken aback while Penny snickered at Bernadette's "sexy toddler" remark. She was glad no one else was in the washroom with them.
"You told her?" Amy looked at Penny, who was still trying not to laugh.
"Hey, why shouldn't I know?", Bernadette pouted.
"I told Penny that in strictest confidence. It's like the gossip meme all over again. The more people in our group know about it, the faster it would get to Sheldon."
"Well, I'm good at keeping secrets. I won't tell Howie. Cross my heart. And Penny's the gossip over here."
"That was before. She's not in close contact with Leonard and the guys anymore because of Priya, so she has no chance of telling anyone."
Both of them noticed Penny's mood change at the mention of Leonard. Before Amy could apologize, someone entered the washroom.
"Seems like we overstayed our welcome...", Bernadette said.
Not wanting to discuss anything further now that someone could overhear them, Penny changed the subject.
"Let's get out of here and do something fun. Who's ready to shop for some cute shoes?"
Bernadette told them about her and Howard's double date with Leonard and Priya. It took a lot of convincing until Bernadette finally agreed to Amy's suggestion in helping Penny get dirt on their relationship.
After shoe shopping, Bernadette drove home while Penny drove with Amy on the way to Los Robles to discuss the plan for later.
"I think he's getting worse," Leonard said as he left his apartment.
Sheldon was busy creating a three-person chess game. While this wasn't his roommate's first time inventing such crazy games, Leonard wanted to know if Sheldon could pull it off and he genuinely was looking forward to playing it.
"Oh, my metatarsals are barking."
Leonard sees Amy arrive uncomfortably walking up the stairs. He asks her if she's okay.
"Yeah, yeah. I'm just breaking in some new shoes."
"Very pretty."
Amy was wearing bright yellow heels, something Leonard figured was a new experience for the brunette.
Seems like she and the girls are getting along...
Leonard mentally cursed at himself for briefly thinking about Penny. He was wondering how she was doing.
"Thank you. Did you know that women wear high heels to make the buttocks and breasts more prominent?"
What? He snapped out of his thinking after hearing Amy's reply.
"Hadn't really thought about it..."
Amy made a pose to prove her point. "Look."
"Uh, sure. Very… prominent.", Leonard said awkwardly. He didn't imagine their conversation would go this way.
"Please, Leonard, don't leer, you have a girlfriend."
"Sorry."
"So, are you off to dinner with Priya, Howard, and Bernadette?"
"Yeah. How did you know?"
"I heard it at the mall when I was shopping with my girlfriends, 'cause, you know, that's kind of my life now." Amy flipped her hair. "Have a good night. Try not to ogle my caboose as I walk away."
Amy awkwardly strutted to Penny's door. Leonard shook his head for staring and headed downstairs.
Maybe there's more to Amy than just being a female equivalent of Sheldon...
He noticed Amy's personality slowly changing.
Penny's influence is rubbing off on her...
Leonard shook his head again, telling himself he has a girlfriend - and he promised not to involve himself with anything related to Penny.
"Hello, Amy."
A moment after Leonard left, Amy heard the door from 4A open. She quickly froze.
Shoot! I should've walked faster. Penny, help!
She slowly turned around to see Sheldon. She couldn't meet his eyes - still confused and flustered around him.
"Hi, Sheldon."
"You've been ignoring me lately. May I ask why?"
"Oh, I've just been busy. That's all."
"Busy hanging out with Penny, I assume?" He looked at her heels.
She tried changing the subject. "Did you know women wear high heels to-"
Sheldon finished her sentence. "-make their buttocks and breasts more prominent, I'm aware."
Amy was taken aback. She didn't think he'd know about that. She noticed his face was flushed.
He cleared his throat. "I overheard you and Leonard talking in the hall. That's how I knew you were here."
Oh, right. He told me about the Vulcan hearing.
Sheldon spoke again. "He didn't? Did he?..."
"What?"
"Nothing." She noticed him shaking his head. "It's pointless to discuss it."
There was a brief silence between them. Amy saw Sheldon look away. Things were getting very uncomfortable so she decided to say something.
"I'm sorry for not answering your calls or texts."
"It's alright. I know what it's about."
Amy's eyes widened. "You do?" She was starting to panic.
"You were embarrassed for sucking at Halo Night. It's understandable and I forgive you."
"Wait, what?"
Amy recalled what happened last week. She teamed up with Sheldon and they lost every match against Howard and Raj.
But to her, she wasn't bothered by losing at all. During that night, all she could think about was how Sheldon's hands held hers when he was teaching her the controls. All she could think about was how close they were that their elbows would accidentally touch while they were playing.
Overwhelmed, she excused herself immediately and left the apartment. She barely spoke to him after that. Until now.
"You're my girl slash friend and I understand that not everyone can excel in everything. With me being an exception of course."
So, this is what Penny and the others feel when he's being all condescending towards them... Didn't think he'd ever do it with me.
"Please. It would actually be more embarrassing for you if I excelled on my first try. You're overlooking the fact that I lack experience. I could've easily defeated them if I played the game as long as you have. Even you if we're being honest."
Sheldon scoffed. "Oh, is that a challenge, Dr. Fowler? Why don't we play again? This time, just the two of us."
Dr. Fowler?
Amy could feel something in her stomach hearing him call her like that. It was weird. She didn't even think he noticed.
"You're expecting me to beat you at a game that I've only played once and a game that you're already good at. That's unfair if you ask me."
"Then why don't we level the playing field? Play a game we have no experience in and see who's the better player."
"That would be ideal if such a game existed."
"You're in luck, little lady. There's a new game I'd like to call three-person chess."
"Three-person chess? Is that even a real game?"
"It's a game I invented. I'm still working on it, but once I'm done we can have a match and I'll prove to you that Sheldon Cooper could never be defeated."
"But if it's a game for three people, how would it be a competition between us?"
"Drats, I didn't think of that..."
"Ooh, maybe we can consider the third player as an obstacle. If you lose, I automatically win or vice versa."
"Alright. I agree to your terms." Sheldon looked at her smugly. "I'll let you know once it's finished."
"I'm looking forward to it." She returned his gaze, They weren't aware, but they continued staring at each other until...
"Hey, Ames. What's taking you so- Oh, hello what do we have over here?" Penny questioned suggestively.
Amy definitely has to tell me what happened this time.
"Amy and I were just discussing an upcoming three-person chess match. Wait... Would you like to be our third player?"
"Oh, that's a great idea. She's the perfect obstacle- I mean player for it."
"Okay, I regret saying anything. Bernadette texted, she needs our help. Wrap up whatever the hell this is." Penny went back inside her apartment.
"Sorry. I'll talk to you later."
"You better answer this time."
"I will, Dr. Cooper," Amy bit her lip to keep herself from smiling.
She turned around and proceeded to head to Penny's apartment. Sheldon noticed her struggling to walk.
Curse these heels...
Suddenly, her right foot leaned to the side and her body started falling shortly after. "Woah-"
She felt a set of arms catch her. She could feel his warmth and his scent enveloping her senses once again. Just like that night when they were dancing.
He lifted her up and steady. "Careful. You would've gotten injured."
"I'm sorry... It's the heels." She turned her head to look at him but regretted doing it because she could feel her pulse quicken. She could see a hint of concern in his face.
"I can see that. What happened to your orthopedic shoes?"
"Penny suggested I try something new... She also told me to leave those shoes with the store since I won't be using them anymore."
"Don't you love those shoes?"
"I do. But it usually takes time for me to get used to things I've never experienced anyway, so I'll be fine."
"Will you? Why go through all that when it clearly causes you discomfort?"
Before Amy could answer, Penny pulled her away from Sheldon. "Sorry, sweetie. I really need her right now. You can continue flirting later."
Amy was thankful Penny saved her. She wasn't sure she could answer Sheldon and she didn't know why. Was she starting to have feelings for him? And were those feelings something that caused her discomfort?
After seeing Raj strip naked in front of everyone, Sheldon called Leonard to get them immediately and texted him the address.
When they arrived, Priya apologized and spoke with the manager of the coffee shop to explain the situation. Priya immediately scolded her brother. The side effects have worn off and all Raj could feel was shame.
"I'll take his car and drive him home."
"Okay. Thanks, Priya. Good night."
"Don't mention it. Our parents would go crazy if I let something bad happen to him. Good Night." Priya and Raj got in the car and left.
Leonard was expecting a kiss but things weren't okay with them yet after she saw him acting like a fool at dinner.
You blew it, Hofstadter... Who the hell says 'befuddled'?
He felt a tap on his shoulder. "Leonard, before we go home, can we make a quick stop?"
"Okay... Where?"
Operation Wildebeest turned out to be a disaster. They messaged an apology to Bernadette for pressuring her and she replied that it was okay.
"This was a bad idea. We shouldn't have pushed her too hard."
"You're right. She's softer than we realized. We'll come up with something else next time."
"No. Enough. Let's stop this. Priya makes Leonard happy and I wouldn't want to ruin that."
"But she had no right to tell Leonard to end his friendship with you."
"I know, but I get it. There's just too much history between me and him."
"Penny, when you started having feelings for Leonard, did it frighten you?"
"Oh, it did. It scared the crap out of me. If things didn't work out, our friendship would be ruined. Luckily, after we broke up, we continued staying friends until... You know..."
So all feelings do is complicate things...
Amy looked down at the bright yellow pair her feet were currently occupying.
Why go through all that when it clearly causes discomfort?
She thought about Sheldon's question earlier and she realized she wasn't ready to try something new. It was too much for her to handle.
Penny saw Amy look dejected. Before she could comfort her, they were interrupted by a certain someone's triple knock.
*Knock knock knock* "Penny.", *Knock knock knock* "Penny.", *Knock knock knock* "Penny."
"Yes, Sheldon?"
Sheldon ignored Penny and entered the apartment after confirming that Amy was still there.
"Here." Sheldon handed Amy a paper bag.
"What's this?"
Amy opened the bag and showed a look of surprise.
"I asked Bernadette to tell me about the shoe store you girls went to and I asked Leonard to take me there. Thankfully, the store was still open and I asked for your shoes back."
"You didn't need to go through all that trouble."
"I believe it was necessary. What would've happened if you fell again and I wasn't there to catch you? Those heels are a proven flight risk."
"I don't know what to say..."
"Why put good shoes to waste? You told me you loved it and you're clearly more comfortable in it."
"I am... Thank you, Sheldon."
"You're welcome." He smiled and then glared at Penny.
"Why are you looking at me like that?"
"You forced Amy to try something she's not used to! What if she got hurt?"
"Hey, I didn't force her to do anything, she decided to try those heels by herself. Don't you like them, Ames?"
"I do... But..." She glanced at Sheldon. "I'm sticking with the shoes."
"Your choice." Penny was aware that they weren't even talking about shoes at this point.
"It's settled. You can just throw those awful things away, Amy."
"Now, now. Why don't we let her save it for another time? She just might need it." Penny winked at Amy.
"When would she need it?" Sheldon furrowed his eyebrows.
"I don't know... Maybe she can use it for dates or something.
Penny looked at Sheldon, hoping for some sort of reaction. His silence told her everything she needed to know.
"Amy's not interested in dating. We've already resolved that particular windmill with her mother." He turned to Amy. "Right, Amy?" He looked at Amy for confirmation and she just shrugged.
"Okay, probably not dating… She could wear them when we go to that club again! Wouldn't that be fun?"
Sheldon and Amy stared at each other and looked away, looking back at the events of that fateful night - only one person remembered that kiss though...
That said person said he had to go to bed and left with Amy following soon after, leaving with her old shoes. Penny enjoyed her small victory. All she could do was laugh at how blind these geniuses really were.
In her eyes, Sheldon and Amy are like the super cute shoes she can't afford. Sure, she's letting go of them now, but she knows she can get them if she worked hard enough.
Operation Wildebeest might've failed but she's not gonna let Operation Shamy slip through her fingers too. She realized she just needed to be patient. She can already see something happening between them - it's only a matter of time.
I mean it wouldn't hurt to push them a little bit, right?
End of Chapter 2.
Author's Note: Those shoe metaphors might've been too much but I just couldn't help myself. As some of you may notice, the chapters are based on the episodes of the actual show. These are all just ideas of what could've happened before, in-between, or at the end of the scenes that are canon. I just wanted more Shamy moments before they got together. Hope y'all liked this chapter, I'll be sure to tone down the metaphors next time.
If you haven't read "The Impalpable Chemistry" yet, I sincerely hope you check it out. Also, to those who already read it, sorry for the long wait. Just know I won't leave y'all hanging.
The next chapter would probably be based on 4x22 and 4x23 depending on where my imagination takes me. Please continue leaving a review! A fav and follow would also be appreciated, so if you haven't, what are you waiting for? Until next time, Shamy fans!
